House of the Red Pearl
The best kept secret in the Tin Building! đ€« Speakeasy style, great for date nights! Crystal was our server & she was outstanding, as well as the rest of the team! All dishes came out fast, fresh & delicious! They are not afraid of spice, nor heat. If you need a little extra, ask for their chili powder, it's delicious! Dumplings were tender, generously filled & paired with a delicious chili oil. The fried calamari was very lightly flash fried, not greasy at all. The ginger scallion topping was amazing. The chilled sesame noodles were okay. It could've benefitted with the addition of some crushed, roasted peanuts, as it lacked depth of flavor & texture. The black bean spare ribs were charred & lean. No grizzle or fat & not overly sweet. The star of the feast was their black pepper Wagyu beef noodle dish! Add some chili powder to it & you'll be in spicy heaven! đ The Wagyu melted in your mouth & the noodles had the perfect chew. The grand finale was their fortune cookie đ„ sundae w/ fortune cookie ice cream, sesame crunch pieces, fudge on the bottom & marshmallow fluff pillows. Highly recommend, especially for special occasions!
We had the best experience at House of the Red Pearl! We came in for a late reservation and as we were close by looking for the entrance to the restaurant the Chef, Tony, saw us and courteously showed us to the host stand. Our table wasn't quite ready so we ordered a drink at the bar. While waiting the General Manager, Wes, greeted us warmly and told us he had a small table available now or that he could offer us a nice booth in a short while. While enjoying two delicious cocktails, Wes himself notified us our booth was ready and escorted us with a tray for our drinks to our table. Shortly after seating us he approached the table with a delicious cucumber salad. He informed us that Chef Tony would be preparing us a chef's tasting menu which we happily accepted. The two types of dumplings, spring rolls, and short ribs were brought to our table by Chef Tony himself. Each item was delicious and perfectly prepared. The service was incredible and the manager Edgar even said hello to us also and brought us champagne. The mango pudding and pineapple upside down cake were an amazing finish to an amazing meal. We were blown away by the hospitality from the entire staff top to bottom. What an incredible all around experience. 6 stars for Food, Service and Atmosphere!
New King Wok
The service was good, the staff is nice. The wait for the food wasnât long. I ordered their shrimp lo mein and itâs a great serving size and it was good.
Weâve ordered out from this place a bunch of times, tried a bunch of stuff. Everything has been really good, and theyâre always fast. Staff has been nice when weâve done a pickup. No complaints.
Joe's Steam Rice Roll
Absolutely delicious signature roll! Will come back to try the other types. Low key and very few seats inside. The food is the main attraction of course.
Not much table service. This location is mostly a pick up/ take out place. Food is good, but very limited in the ordering process. You order by phone, app, or the kiosk. Good food but takes it's time (maybe a good thing). Good location, but limited in seating.
Tri Dim Shanghai West [UWS] Restaurant and Bar éŒè±
Great Dim Sum and really good Lychee Martinis. Was walking by and had a craving for dim sum. This atmosphere is lovely and the staff were so friendly. Steamed dumplings were excellent. They were light and so tasty. Truly authentic upscale Chinese food. Happy Hour 3-6 with great pricing.
Would come here every time I will have dimsum cravings, specifically hakao (steamed crystal shrimp)! It was so plump. I should have ordered another round. I will just come back. Other food we ordered were the wonton soup, the salted egg yolk custard buns, the chicken and broccoli, and the red bean paste shortcake (dessert). The soup was a good start. The buns were really good too. Not too salty, and it had just the right balance of âsweet and salty!â The chicken and broccoli came with one cup of rice, which was enough for me and my husband. The sauce was not as sweet as I expected, which was good! It wasnât overwhelming. We ended with dessert, the red bean paste shortcake. It was served warm/hot, a yummy end to the meal!
New Kam Lai
My go to place in the neighborhood for healthy and reasonable food, great lunch specials and dinners too very very clean and THE BEST service for Crystal who should get a raise !!! GREAT value one of the best ....
I usually always go here on my lunch break and I get my food very fast they also remember my order that I usually always get and they're very friendly and respectful. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves Chinese food.
Aves
I just had an unforgettable dining experience at Aves New York and wanted to share it with you. This place is truly amazing! For starters, we had the Clam Steam Pot and Soup Dumplings, which were both packed with flavor. The drinks were not only delicious but also visually stunning. The star of the show was definitely the Peking Duck , it was absolutely mouthwatering and cooked to perfection. For our main course, we enjoyed the Steamed Fish and Shaking Beef, which were also incredibly tasty. And of course, we couldn't resist ending the meal with one of their delicious desserts. The food was a solid 10 out of 10, the service was warm and attentive, and the restaurant itself is simply beautiful. If you're looking for an exceptional Chinese dining experience in NYC, you have to check out Aves New York. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
Great food, definitely one of the best (if not the best) Chinese food option on the Upper West Side and a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The portions are on the smaller side, but pricing is reasonable considering the quality of the food. We got the three pepper chicken, the steamed fish, the crispy mushroom rice, and Chinese broccoli, which were all delicious. I know some people complained about slow service (perhaps during their soft opening?) but we didnât have any issues whatsoever, the staff was fantastic and very attentive. Will definitely be back.
Ollieâs To Go: Upper West Side
The lunch here offers great value for money. The food is tasty, the service is excellent. Lunch also comes with soup, which is very flavorful. Highly recommended!
I have nothing good to say. I ordered some food hoping to have a quick meal before resting my head, only to open my bag and find a roach, still squirming around the bottom of my delivery bag. I didnât try the food, but if roaches are crawling into the plastic togo bags, I donât want to know whatâs crawling into the food. Absolutely disappointed and disgusted.
Dragon 89
My Mei Feng Singapore noodles I got delivered. I never review places, but this is a joke. This was boiled spaghetti with zero flavor and zero meat/veggies. Maybe their other food is good but don't order this.
I feel like quality Chinese food is just a memory in NYC. The food arrived warm and tasteless with no flavor at all. I ordered fried chicken wings, beef lo mein , shrimp fried rice, and scallion pancakes. The only thing that might taste good if I reheat it are the scallion pancakes that arrived oily and soggy. Very disappointing I should have ordered something else. Iâm honestly surprised they have higher ratings.
Dun Huang
I think the dishes related to Dunhuang cuisine are actually pretty good. The other dishes, though, might not be as authentic. But the lamb is genuinely delicious â anyone who likes lamb would definitely enjoy it
Soup was bland. Beef was bland. Taste was lacking any flavor at all. Photo was deceiving. Upon disliking my soup I ordered the shrimp of which I ate and saw that they do not clean the shrimp. Every single shrimp had poop/intestines and was a disgusting to experience. Please do better.
Happy Hot Hunan
Easily my go to Hunan cuisine restaurant in UWS. Very affordable lunch specials menu. Recommend the kungpao chicken, shredded beef, pork belly, and green beans.
This place was much better than I expected from the reviews. We ordered a lot of food and split it five ways. The mala was my favorite.
The Handpulled Noodle | West Harlem
My boyfriend and I came here for the first time ever and were really pleased! The noodles are incredible, bursting with flavor! The scallion pancakes were delicious as were the Buddaâs veggies dumplings. We loved the white peach tea. The service was fast and everyone was friendly. We canât wait to come back!
I used to come here many times when it opened a while back and the noodles were amazing! Recently, I found out I can't eat gluten and stopped going. However, I found out that they offer gluten free option and one being sweet potato noodles and honestly you can't tell the dish is gluten free. The flavor is still rich, it pops, and the amount of food will leave you food for the day. I recommend trying their Specialty Noodles, my favorite being the Dapan Niu. Definitely one the hidden gems in the neighborhood!
New King's Wok
Love their chicken with broccoli. Always on point. The price is great, too.
If youâre looking for an average wonât-amaze-or-entirely-disappoint-you, American-style Chinese food, one with massive portions and excellent prices, New Kingâs Wok would suffice. As for the flavor and quality of the food, I think a true 3 stars is justified, not 4.5 as Google Maps suggests. Itâs OK. Nothing more, nothing less. My girlfriend and I ordered multiple items: beef with broccoli, chicken curry with onions, and an order of crab rangoon. The beef with broccoli was a combo platter and came with fried rice and an egg roll. Long story short, if this was the only dish I tried, I wouldnât go back to the restaurant. The side of fried rice quickly became entirely one-noted, as there are no veggies or acid or anything to break-up the heaviness of the flavors. And the artificial smoke flavor of the little diced pieces of pork was not my favorite. The same characteristics can be found across the rest of the dish, itself, as it all just started to taste âheavyâ and oily after only a few bites. There were also a handful of chewy pieces of beef and the dish needed more of the sauce drizzled on-top. The egg roll was spectacular, however, as it was one of the most layered and hearty and delicate Iâve ever had. But I would not order this meal again, at least not without some modifications. I really didnât like it much at all. The curry chicken with onions was very tasty in its own right and it was my favorite part of the meal. It has a light but rich flavor and I found myself continuing to sneak bites from my partnerâs plate. Our only critique is that it, too, became very one-note after only a few bites and would have benefited massively from a mix of vegetables in the dish, rather than offering just onions. Last but not least, the crab rangoon was delicious and the portion was huge, too, especially for $5. It scratched that taste-profile itch very, very well. More not need be said, thankfully. For the price, convenience, and freshness of the food, this place an easy âlocal spotâ contender. Plus every order over $25 gets two free cans of soda, which was a nice touch. But the restaurant is not without its flaws; you know exactly what youâre going to get, for better or worse. There are simply multiple opportunities for New Kingâs Wok to take the typical New York fare and make it entirely classic in its own new, unique way.
