Peking House
Food was pretty decent. I like how the area isn’t too big and isn’t messy. I just expected brown rice, not pink. still tasted pretty decent.
very surprised on how fresh good and hot this was. I have not been having any luck with chinese food lately. Those great spots have declined heavily. But this spot right here. I had to refrain from getting another plate it was sooooo good. 6/21/2024 Im back with another review. I'm a day late because it's almost 1am and I am heating up my left over shrimp fried rice. I got delivery last night and it was all FRESH. I am pregnant so you know those random cravings. They followed every direction to a T. Everything was soooo good. I will be ordering again this week :-)
JP Kitchen
Delivery was quicker than expected. Food was overall good. The beef teriyaki sticks were very thin but very tasty. Shrimp Egg foo young was good and the pork fried rice was a little bland but decent. Overall good and I would go back. My plate came with a fried shrimp that was much more batter than shrimp. I would definitely not get the fried shrimp again
JP Kitchen is my family's go-to take out spot. They have kept us extremely well fed for 10+ years. Always a very welcome comfort food after long days. Thanks JP Kitchen!!
Yunnan Kitchen
The portion sizes were huge and the food was delicious! I really enjoyed their rice cakes as well as their fried mushrooms. The fish was also tender and flavorful and the beef stir fry was solid. If you want a more authentic Chinese food experience I would highly recommend this spot. Of course, they have Americanized Chinese food too so there’s something for everybody. Service was fast and the atmosphere was great. Perfect for a late night dinner in the winter!
🍜 **Yunnan Kitchen Review - Boston** 🍜 📍 Nestled in the South End of Boston at 1721 Washington St #B, Yunnan Kitchen stands out!🌟 🥔 **Yunnan Potato Pancake**: A crispy shredded potato masterpiece akin to a French fry pancake. A bit spicy thanks to my brother's heavy hand, but a solid 8/10. 🌶️🥞 🥩 **Stir-Fried Beef with Long Horn Peppers**: This dish offers perfectly seasoned thin cuts of beef paired with seriously spicy peppers. It’s a mouth-watering 9/10. 🔥🐄 🌿 **Mint Beef**: Thinly sliced beef with crispy fried mint leaves—light but flavorful, earning another 9/10. 🍃🥩 🍚 **Stir-Fried Rice Cakes**: A best-seller for a reason! Tossed with pickled mustard greens, pork, egg, and tomato—this dish is a must-try if you're new to rice cakes. 9/10. 🌟 🍗 **Authentic Yongping Braised Chicken**: Generously seasoned with garlic, tsao-ko, scallions, and whole chili—this dish keeps you coming back for more. 9/10. 🐔🌶️ 🐟 **Lemongrass Tilapia**: Stuffed with chili herb paste, jalapeños, garlic, lemongrass, and citrus, cooked perfectly to score a flawless 10/10. 🌿🐟 🥔🍖 **Xuanwei Ham and Potato Rice**: Cooked in a stone pot, this dish offers delightful crispy bits of rice. Absolutely delicious! 🍚🔥 👥 **Ambiance and Experience**: It's a small space, but it packs a huge punch with some of the best Chinese cuisine I've had. And even while we were there someone in another booth said it was the best Chinese food they have ever had. The ambiance is simple, rated 5/10, which lets the food shine even more. 💵 **Affordability**: With reasonable pricing for exceptional food, it scores a 7/10 on affordability. 🍷 **Tip**: Share several plates with friends or family, order a bottle of wine, and prepare for an unforgettable dining experience. 📈 **Overall**: - Food: 9/10 - Ambiance: 5/10 - Affordability: 7/10 If you're looking for authentic Chinese cuisine outside of Boston's Chinatown, run, don't walk, to Yunnan Kitchen. Some of THE best Chinese food we've ever had. We had to go two times in order to try most of the things that caught our attention. Every dish was very flavorful and delicious in its own way. Our favorite small dish was the pork and chive dumplings. These were actually the best, most perfectly executed dumplings I've ever had in my life. The exterior had a pleasing crunch at the bottom, and the interior was packed with perfectly seasoned pork and chives —all of which was elevated to the max with the most pleasing savory dipping sauce. We had to get it on both of our visits. Another personal favorite was the char siu chow fun. That dish packs a fist full of flavor right to the taste buds that leaves you wanting more. The pork was so tender and carried some of the best flavor it could have, reminiscent of chinese sausage but with actual pork. Lastly, the creme caramel dessert was a clear standout —think banana creme Brule mixed with lecheflan. It came with a piece of sesame toffee that paired extremely well with all the flavors. Creative and divine. The staff was consistently kind and welcoming, and the space had a great ambiance. This tasty little spot more than satisfies any cravings for excellent Chinese cuisine. We'll definitely be back to try even more things!
Want to have a mind blowing, flavor explosion experience? You are in the right place! EVERYTHING we ordered was 10/10. If I had to rank my favorites it would be like this: 1°:pork chive dumpling/ mussels (hard to pick the best between these two); 2°Bao buns; 3° glazed carrots and last but not least spring roll. Our server, Antonio, complemented what was already a terrific experience by giving us tips on the menu and bringing great energy. Will definitely be back!
Lucky Boston Chinese
First time in this place and last time unfortunately. Restaurant looks like a large Jail cell when you walk in. The lady that came in before was bringing her food 🥘 back because they gave her pork 🐖 fried rice instead of shrimp fried rice and the cashier 💰 seemed to have an attitude 😒 about rudely kind of snatching the bag back. Took a while ⏰ for me to actually order maybe 10 plus minutes. I ordered shrimp fried rice 🍚 , wings 🍗 , and veggies 🥗 . Took about 15 minutes. The chicken was good. The rice was tasteless no flavor at all the shrimp 🍤 were the smallest I’ve ever seen. Definitely not a hidden gem.
I just placed a pickup order for specific verbatim order of0- "#19 combination plate beef/broccoli with chicken wing & boneless rib" from their listed menu on: LuckyBostonChinese.com for $11.50, website says menu last updated 2017. I was very specific because I know how to order Chinese food I we The phone so there's no problem: say number and item name specific. What a rip off The woman who took the order over the phone asked me if I wanted pork fried rice or white rice, then charged me $11.75 for pork fried rice which a quarter isn't the concern. When I returned home with the order it's just a container of pork fried rice with boneless rib strips and bag of three wings. I called them back as I'm two miles away and my friend who drove me went home. She said she's not associated with the menu on website listed above and doesn't know where it came from. Total scam, she stated I never said anything about beef or broccoli and she is not associated with that menu on the website that has same name as business on there google maps listing. She said return it and she'll charge me $16.75 for correct order, I asked for a delivery driver to do the switch and she just says 'no sorry no delivery driver'. Hangs up the phone Don't eat or order from here if you haven't before, total nonsense bs saying they have nothing to do with their own menu, won't refund or correct. Photos attached
Mandarin House
The General Tso's chicken is absolutely wonderful there's plenty of meat within the chicken itself and all their other options are really great too especially the number six: the Fried Chicken in plantains, you should totally come here sometime it's cash only but it's totally worth it!
I used to come here all the time as a kid haha! I recently passed by the other day and everything taste the same :) I love that. My favorite are the chicken wings, fried banana land pork fried rice💜 No they don’t usually have parking but the food is fire 🔥
B2J Tasty Pot Allston 不二家酸菜鱼 Allston
The fish was super tender, and the pickled mustard greens had the perfect balance of sour and spicy. Great portion size and friendly service too. Will definitely come back!
Ordered the three person combo + drinks and desserts. Portion size is good and the feiteng flavor is legit. Especially like the appetizers (fried pork strips and pepper chicken). Location is clean and spacious. Enjoyed the dining experience.
KungFu MalaTang
My first time coming here and it was such a good choice! They were so so nice and welcoming and the food was equally so so good! I think it will definitely be a favorite spot for my friends and I from now on!!
Solid budget hotpot with an old-school charm. One of my friends gets delivery from here religiously (at least twice a month), so I’ve tried a few custom bowls before finally stopping by for my own hotpot lunch. Unlike the newer Chinese hotpot spots that lean into the techy QR-code experience, this place does it the old-school way. Right by the entrance, there’s a toppings station where you grab everything yourself, and pay by weight. Honestly, I much prefer this setup. You get to eyeball the quality, pick and portion exactly how you want, and try more variety without overcommitting. The owner did warn me not to go over 1.5kg, but between all the fresh veggie toppings and solid protein selection—quail eggs, bacon, sausage, frozen pork and lamb—I couldn’t help myself and slightly overshot. No regrets. However, this place is definitely on the no-frills end of the spectrum. No fancy seafood like scallops or lobster, no DIY sauce bar, and only one broth option: a classic mala beef broth (you can choose the spice level, at least). The setup is more cafeteria-style—pick your toppings, pay at the counter, and the owner handles the rest. No mandatory service charges, just comfort food done right. Allston’s hotpot scene has gotten trendier and flashier in recent years, but I totally get why this spot remains one of my friend’s faithful go-tos. It’s definitely going on my own list for cozy and satisfying hotpot.
Spring Shanghai Pan-Fried Buns
On a windy day, it's harder to open the door and get all your food chilled as people walk in and out...they do have outdoor seating for better weather days. Shanghai fried buns are the specialty here, and from a Shanghai visitor, they're pretty authentic, thin-skinned, a lot of juice, and crispy bottoms. The scallion oil noodles are good on their own, and the pork chop left something to be desired and don't add much to the main dish as it didn't match the flavor well (the minced spicy pork came out cold - was better when they warmed it up on the wok). Self-bus the tables.
My new favorite spot for a casual Chinese takeout. Heard so many good things about this place, and I finally got to try their takeout. Although there are so many good fast-casual wonton and noodle spots popping up, this one had the best deal for the price. More importantly, nearly everything I’ve tried from the menu was excellent. Favorites: Pan Fried buns, Chili Oil Wonton, Braised Pork Chop Noodles Solid: Scallion Oil Noodles, Shanghai Cold Wonton, Spicy Minced Pork Noodles Their signature Shanghai Pan-fried buns were definitely my favorites—crispy bottoms, juicy fillings, and packed with flavor. Even without much experience with pan-fried buns, I could tell these were something special. The Chili Wontons, too, were really good with the right balance of acidity and savoriness. Then, the Braised Pork Chop Noodles. Despite the pork chop getting a bit soggy in the soup, it was oddly satisfying—tender, flavorful, and retaining its rich marinade. The Spicy Minced Pork Noodles, while milder in seasoning, were still comforting and enjoyable.

BEST CHINESE RESTAURANT IN BOSTON. The food portions are decent, the prices are decent, and the food is INCREDIBLE. Tasting incredibly flavorful, fresh, and delicious. We ordered so much food and every dish hit the spot. My favourites are the spicy beef, the fish in sour spicy soup (酸辣汤, this one a tiny bit too salty though), and the spicy cumin lamb (司岚羊肉). I highly recommend these dishes and this restaurant. You really can’t go wrong. If you like spice, the spice here ain’t bad at all (honestly wish it was spicier).
This is hands down one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants I’ve ever experienced. Every dish we ordered was exceptional, with perfect seasoning and bold flavors. The cauliflower cooked with pork was a standout, the spicy fish fillet had the perfect balance of heat, and the clam and winter melon soup might just be the best Chinese soup I’ve ever had. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!
Boston Soup Dumplings 烹小鲜
It was a sunny Friday afternoon in February. We ordered a Sichuan spicy beef noodle soup and an order of soup dumplings. Both had excellent traditional Chinese flavor and flavorful sauces. Service included jasmine tea and a tall pitcher of ice water with real chopsticks and soup ladles. Service was polite and friendly. They even had White Rabbit candies for after dinner treats. Thumbs up all around.
My wife and I love their xiao long bao. We came here every week for a while and ordered it every time! It is the closest to Din Tai Fung in my mind. The noodle soup tasted average for a while last year, but it has improved recently. I have to say that the mapo tofu + stewed pork ribs they recommended me to try yesterday were so delicious! A big bowl of rice was finished in a short time, and I even wanted to eat more. I am glad that their chefs keep introducing new dishes, which are surprising.
FLAMING GRILL & BUFFET (Roslindale Location)
SUNDAY is busy but it doesn’t matter. There’s enough food. Staff is friendly and observant. Lots of choices! They even have sushi 🍣! Parking is a little limited!
Pretty nice place, clean as well, and service/food was good
