Friendship BBQ Allston
Friendship BBQ is a Chinese skewer restaurant located right outside of Packard's Corner. Staff are friendly and explain the process well. They're very knowledgeable on recommendations and can help whenever needed. The food is good. We got a wide variety of skewers, as well as a few appetizers. The skewers were flavorful, not too gamey but of a good and consistent quality. The price is a bit high for the portions they give, but not too outrageous.
I've been passing by this place in Boston and NYC but never went in. I was in the area so decided to give it a try. When you enter, the vibe was cool and chill. The atmosphere is amazing and place is clean. I was always met with a smile from the waiter throughout the whole dining experience. We ordered a bunch of different skewers, grilled oysters and scallops, scallion pancake, yellow crocker, and the skewer rice. I'm not really a fan of spicy food and let me tell you, my mouth was on fire. But.... it was an interesting sensation. I didn't hate it. Odd. Maybe I even enjoyed it. Definitely an interesting moment where I get to meet a whole new side of me. So, yes, I am enjoyed it fully and love it!
Mala Restaurant
5.0. This restaurant is amazing! The food is awesome. I would recommend the frog. It is fresh and delicious, which is hard to find anywhere else. In addition, the service is good, the atmosphere is lively, and the location is convenient.
Best Mala restaurant in Allston. Food is delicious, bursting with flavour, and portions are generous. Highly recommend getting the Mala Tofu, the dry Mala pot (and select your fillings), and the spicy peanut noodles. Very authentic food (and service). Come hungry!!!
dly hot pot
A Flavorful and Fun Experience! This hot pot restaurant is absolutely fantastic! From the moment we walked in, the vibrant and lively atmosphere set the perfect mood for a fun dining experience. The ingredients are so fresh, and the variety is incredible—there’s truly something for everyone. The broth options were packed with flavor, and customizing my own combination of ingredients made the meal even more enjoyable. The staff was friendly and helpful, always checking in and making sure we had everything we needed. It’s clear they care about creating a memorable experience for their guests. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a delicious, interactive meal with friends or family, this is it! I left feeling happy, full, and excited to come back again soon.
Great spot for hot pot! I went with a big group of friends, and we had an awesome time. They offer several options on their "all-you-can-eat" menu, and we chose two different broths to share. The service was excellent—right at the start, they provided us with bibs to protect our clothes, which was a thoughtful touch. We enjoyed a wide variety of meats and seafood, all fresh and delicious. For dessert, we tried two options: the sugar rice cake, which we loved, and the jelly ice cream, which was good but a bit unusual. It might just be an acquired taste! Overall, I highly recommend this place for a fun and satisfying hot pot experience.
KungFu MalaTang
My first time coming here and it was such a good choice! They were so so nice and welcoming and the food was equally so so good! I think it will definitely be a favorite spot for my friends and I from now on!!
Solid budget hotpot with an old-school charm. One of my friends gets delivery from here religiously (at least twice a month), so I’ve tried a few custom bowls before finally stopping by for my own hotpot lunch. Unlike the newer Chinese hotpot spots that lean into the techy QR-code experience, this place does it the old-school way. Right by the entrance, there’s a toppings station where you grab everything yourself, and pay by weight. Honestly, I much prefer this setup. You get to eyeball the quality, pick and portion exactly how you want, and try more variety without overcommitting. The owner did warn me not to go over 1.5kg, but between all the fresh veggie toppings and solid protein selection—quail eggs, bacon, sausage, frozen pork and lamb—I couldn’t help myself and slightly overshot. No regrets. However, this place is definitely on the no-frills end of the spectrum. No fancy seafood like scallops or lobster, no DIY sauce bar, and only one broth option: a classic mala beef broth (you can choose the spice level, at least). The setup is more cafeteria-style—pick your toppings, pay at the counter, and the owner handles the rest. No mandatory service charges, just comfort food done right. Allston’s hotpot scene has gotten trendier and flashier in recent years, but I totally get why this spot remains one of my friend’s faithful go-tos. It’s definitely going on my own list for cozy and satisfying hotpot.
B2J Tasty Pot Allston 不二家酸菜鱼 Allston
The fish was super tender, and the pickled mustard greens had the perfect balance of sour and spicy. Great portion size and friendly service too. Will definitely come back!
Ordered the three person combo + drinks and desserts. Portion size is good and the feiteng flavor is legit. Especially like the appetizers (fried pork strips and pepper chicken). Location is clean and spacious. Enjoyed the dining experience.
Hei La Moon
We liked the seafood with crunchy noodles, it was great and a huge portion as pictured. The scallion dumplings for dim sum weren’t worth it. The pork buns were! Delicious. And then I got the sesame balls which I thought were delicious as well. Also good spot where we weren’t rushed at all and given tea to chat with
I've tried several Dim Sum places, and I think Hei La Moon is the best. Their shrimp dim sum is amazing—any kind! The braised pork dim sum is also fantastic. However, many of the dishes have a strong Chinese spice aroma, which might not be to everyone's taste if you're not used to these scents. On weekends, you can choose your dim sum from carts, which I find very easy and intuitive. One thing to note is that most of the employees don’t speak English. I was able to use a few simple Chinese words, which helped occasionally, so don't expect much in terms of friendly service. You can simply order dishes as you see them, without needing an explanation. It gets very crowded on weekends, so try to avoid peak times between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. If you go around these times, you might have to wait 30 minutes to an hour.
Our Zone 第五空间 家常川菜
Food is good but parking is very difficult. The restaurant isn't crowded on a Friday night. I think it is because of the parking situation. We spent a good half an hour looking for parking and ended up parking somewhere a 8 minutes walk away. I advise people take public transportation or walk. Food was unique in their flavor of compared to other run of the mill Sichuan restaurants. Portions are huge and they make food tailored to your party's liking.
Good service. Excellent value. My death row meal is the double cooked bacon and garlic bak choy… seriously. Bone-in spicy chicken dish with potatoes but I understand that’s the style. Making this place a staple!
Wok n Talk - Brighton
Wok n Tok is a great place for good, late-night, Asian fare. I’ve been before and find the prices to be fair for the portion size, too. The service for my order was friendly and I was grateful to not have to do fast food after arriving in town from an evening flight. I definitely recommend for take-out!
I had dinner here yesterday. Their food is top notch. My favorite dish is the Singapore Rice Noodles. I had never had it before and it was recommended to me by the owner. If you like curry, noodles, and Chinese food. Go here! I promise it is not only delicious, but the one plate you order will feed you and two other people. It is the most food I have ever seen in a single plate. It is filled with delicious chicken, shrimp, and pork. You must try it. You will not be disappointed.
Hippopo Kitchen
Hands down, the best and most authentic hidden gem Chinese Restaurant in Boston. Good portions, fair prices, helpful staff, very tasty, and lots of options. There is a surprise side dish with every visit! A true example of cuisine over ambiance. They are quite a modest-looking place, but the food speaks loudly with excellent presentation and taste. Their food is as good or better than restaurants charging twice as much.
All hot dishes definitely met our expectations (as a picky eater). The eggplant was surprising flavorful and tender. It was packed during dinner hour, and the server took a little bit longer to take the order and bring up the food. Overall good experience!
Great Chef Chinese Food at Day Square
Such a hidden gem. They have a few tables but it is mostly takeout. Had a late flight home and picked Great Chef because they are open late. The Egg Rolls were old school with celery and pork. Absolutely delicious! These Boneless Spareribs were some of the most tender that I have ever had. Wings were crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside. Beef Teriyaki had great flavors and was tender. They do an amazing job with their Lobster Sauce! Great flavors without being salty. Highly recommend the food!
Besttttt fries I've ever had the spicy ones wow 10/10
Little Asia
I had the general gous chicken combo plate. It was delicious. I had their food 3 times and every time it was delicious. Great restaurant. Best Chinese food in Boston.
Everything tasted fresh and was nice and hot. It hit the spot for what I was craving. I liked the hot pot of tea.
New China
The food was fresh I got shrimp fried rice and it’s cooked to perfection the shrimp were clean as well. And the jumbo fried shrimp was real good too fried so well. Please come here
Finding this place was a little difficult but you'll know when you've found it. They have an ATM since it's cash only. I wasn't sure the staff understood my order but I got what I wanted so it all worked out. The rice tasted like it had been sitting in a bucket for a long time and had gotten dusty. But the sesame chicken was good and the ribs were phenomenal. I'm still dreaming of going back for more ribs.
