Young's Chinese Restaurant
Well, the size of one portion was great, feeds two, but the dish "young governors chicken" was too frkn sweet. Really not what you expect of chinese food. It was like eating pancakes with syrup. What happened to real chinese food? Did you adapt to american sweet taste? Please, make real chinese food. This is not good.
The owner is very nice/sweet! The food was kind of over seasoned & under seasoned but it was pretty good. It doesn’t really look like a restaurant inside which was interesting but I didn’t really mind and the price was really good. The food also came out in like 5 minutes!
Shanghai Terrace
Fried rice and Fried noodle is the best, peking duck and lobster is on par, dim sum and soup is a bit disappointing, doesn't taste like freshly made in the day. Free mooncake and birthday cake is great, better than most desert I ever had in other restaurants, flavorful but not too sweet and too heavy. I would like to come back again for the fried rice/noodle, desert , maybe veggies next time.
An article in the New York Times said Shanghai Terrace was one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Sadly, I disagree. I had golden shrimp, lobster, and chicken dumplings, steamed pork dumplings (soup dumplings), Szechuan string beans, and the the Seabass with traditional szechuan sauce. It was not bad but not great. The fish seemed to covered in a thick hoisin sauce. It felt like Chinese food for North Americans. The terrace was lovely, especially for late summer. And it was pricey.
Eat First
Small Chinese restaurant, I ordered shrimp fried rice was ok needed like bit spicy i asked for some shiracha they want to charge me for it. Dining in restaurants you provide all needs for you food taste better one star for that and I tip them 20%
Love this place! Curry chicken is my go to. We get a large and it’s enough to share. Great vegetarian egg rolls and dumplings. They’ll accommodate special requests, just ask. They have a great selection of vegetarian entrees too. Very tiny for dining in but they do have some seats.
Hing Wang
Hands down the best spot for fried rice. I’ve been coming here for over 20+ years along with my family. It is our absolute favorite. Kim already knows our order the moment she hears the first item. They’re family owned and operated. I normally get the chicken and shrimp fried rice x3 spicy, has the best kick to it. Parking isn’t really an issue, they’re right next to the red line too. Cash only, which can sometimes suck but they have an ATM inside. Definitely recommend!
The BEST Asian food on the planet. I use to live in Chicago. I live in Texas now. In March I flew to Chicago just to get my favorite meal from here SPCIY shrimp with lobster sauce and SPICY combination fried rice!!!!! I will fly there again in 3 months for my birthday in March again. I plan on flying back at least twice a year. I wanna fly back 4 times a year!!! Well worth the plane ticket!!! This time I’ve got a plan on how to pack the food in my luggage.😳 SERIOUSLY!!!!😂 Hing Wang my happy place ❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️
MOMO FACTORY (Lake View)
First time trying Nepalese food and it was amazing! Got the Combo Bowl with the noodles. When I called to place the order, they said that they had run out of pork curry (maybe this shows how good they are!), but would switch it to lamb curry free of charge! It was a nice gesture that I appreciated very much. The lamb was very tasteful, and the bowl itself was very filling! The momos were absolutely amazing. Packed with flavor and definitely a mouthful. Definitely a great deal and would come back again! Came out to a little under $14 after tax
The highlight for everyone was the amazing mango lassi that was thick and not too sweet. I got the chili veggie momos, which were flavorful and came with onion, bell peppers, and tomatoes in a delightful spicy sauce. The filling was flavorful and the momos were steamed very nicely. Customer service was kind and attentive. I will say that when they say spicy they mean spicy, and I love spice. People who don’t do well with spice will likely find the spicy very hot. If you like spice then you’ll be in for a treat!
Jin Asian Cafe
Great Chinese food at a reasonable price. The Governor’s chicken was tender and flavorful. The combo fried rice was flavorful.
Found out about Jin Asian Cafe from a local Facebook Group. It’s one of if not the ONLY place in Chicago that has ABC- Almond Boneless Chicken (War Su Gai) which is a Southeastern Michigan / Northern Ohio staple. I ordered it immediate and was blown away by how deliciously authentic they prepared it - just like what I grew up with in Michigan. Crispy breading, tender chicken, and mouthwatering gravy. Jessica the owner was so welcoming and recommended other specialities which I’ll try on the next visit. Definitely check it out!
Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings
I stopped by Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings around 1:40 PM, and wow, it was packed! Maybe it was because of the holidays, but we ended up waiting about 30 minutes for a table. Honestly, it didn’t feel too bad since the staff kept things moving quickly. Once we got seated, I was impressed by how fast everything happened. Our food came out in under 10 minutes, which was a lifesaver after the wait. As for the dumplings—so good! The flavors were on point, though I will say some were a little on the doughy side. Still, that didn’t stop me from enjoying every bite. One thing to note: they don’t validate parking, so just be aware of that if you’re driving. Overall, I’d definitely come back. Even with the crowd, the food and quick service made it totally worth it. If you’re craving dumplings and don’t mind a bit of a wait, this spot is a must-try!
Hands down the best soup dumplings I have ever had and completely live up to the recommendations. The atmosphere is very calming and appropriate, the wait staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, and the menu very diverse in its offerings. All of this coupled with what I would consider a decent price made it an excellent spot to duck into upon opening to have an order of dumplings. It does get busy so I recommend getting there at opening to guarantee a seat.
Hunan Cuisine 湘乡香
All the food in general has pretty authentic taste except for the toned down spiciness. I would recommend getting the meshed chilli peppers with century eggs, where the meshing happens in front of you, and the stinky tofu, which might not be on the menu. Both are special and taste good. The braised pork in pot was a bit chewy, and the stir fried chicken gizzards with pickled beans feels like the bean has not been picked enough. Also, I wouldn't get the stir fry veggies dishes as they're just way overpriced. The server also refuses to let the seven of us use the round table, although none was occupied while we were there, and it made it hard to share the dishes like you'd normally do in Chinese restaurants.
Very tasty and authentic Chinese food. They can go very spicy so be careful when asking for extra spicy (stay mild or no spicy if you can't handle Szhechuan food at other restaurants). Service is not very attentive and servers barely interact with customers. I highly recommend their dry pot dishes (beef, boneless chicken); Braised pork in pot; Pork belly with preserved veggies; Smoked pork with dry bamboo. I also recommend ordering deliveries instead of dining there.
Imperial Restaurant
Great food, great service, grade place. The restaurant was full. We registered our name to be called when a table became available. We only waited about 5 minutes & we were in. The people were getting up from the table when we arrived. The table needed to be clean but the waiters & waitresses worked very fast. And in no time we were sitting & ordering already.
A traditional banquet hall-style dim sum restaurant with efficient service and comforting dim sum options. I particularly enjoyed the beef tripe, steamed rice rolls, dumplings, and rice noodles.
Chef Xiong - Taste of Szechuan
Ummmm everything was delicious. I’m so glad we came. It was so flavorful and the dishes came out in perfect timing!! Ordered the - green beans - mapo tofu - pork fried rice - Chongqing popcorn chicken (not pictured) - Mongolian beef
Wasn't very impressed with the Mongolian beef and fried rice. The rice was too oily and beef could have used more spice or flavor. Maybe I got the average batch, but overall food was nothing special.
Slurp Slurp Noodles
Not what I expected, however still pleasant. The hand pulled noodles are a 10/10. However the broth for the noodles lacked almost all flavor it was so light. The stir fry noodles were much better by far. The new dumplings as an appetizer were fantastic and had a burst of flavor.
Got the hand pulled noodles and pork belly stir fry. Absolutely amazing and would recommend. Their starters are fantastic. Some of the best Rangoons I’ve had in a long time and the dumplings are worth trying. Hope you stop by and enjoy!!!!
Moon Palace Express
I ordered the general jones' wings (not spicy), beef chow fun, shredded pork/chives/tofu, and pan fried pork buns. Everything tasted great as expected but the shredded pork was the all-star that I couldn't stop eating. I forgot to take pictures until I already started eating.
They don't give you enough meat in your fried rice I ordered 2 different things 1#was an combination fried rice #2an beef and chicken only fried rice both hardly had any meat I didn't understand that it's only was 2 shrimps and like not even an hand filled of meat smdh am pissed 💯🚫
