Highly disappointed with my selections. The orange chicken I would think twice about feeding my dog (see photo) and had zero orange flavor. And the green onion (scallion) pancakes were about twice as thick as I'm accustomed to, and it was undercooked except at the edges. When I commented to the server about my dissatisfaction (he seemed surprised I didn't want to take away so many leftovers), no accommodation was made to compensate or acknowledge my feedback. And to top it all off, the fortune cookie was stale. Luckily, a friend recommended another nearby Chinese place the following night that I thoroughly enjoyed, allowing me to expunge the taste and experience of New Red Jade.

We grew up with a lot of chinese cuisines in southeast asia- teochew, hakka, hainam, foochow, hokkien, cantonese. And while vacationing in San Francisco, after sunday mass at the Mission Basilica, we stumbled upon the New Red Jade and decided to have some chinese for sunday lunch. Very nice boss and family. Very welcoming. Restaurant is clean. We ordered the Lemon Chicken and String Beans, white rice for 2. Generous portions!!! Delicious, delicious, delicious. Tastes wholesome, like home šŸ˜ lemon chicken is a dish we have back home, but back home it is cooked with various chicken parts like thighs etc, and we even have orange chicken versions.. BUT nevertheless the lemon chicken here is prepared with breast meat, and is crunchy and not dried out... which makes is very yummy. We saw many families and friends dining there, and we hope many more people will go to the New Red Jade and give them a try. If you dont know what to order, try what we've ordered.. ā˜ŗļø Will definitely come back when we visit SF again! Thank you laupan (boss) and family and team for preparing these dishes and for feeding us these delicious food. Keep it up! Jia yu! 🫶

Friendly staff, attentive and efficient. Food was generally on point, prices reasonable. I actually liked the other standard dishes over the XLB although it was well steamed (with well done thin, chewy skin) and lots of meat filling (although the filling was somewhat of the mystery meat consistency). Not much to speak of for decor and overall somewhat run down inside but food quality is more important to me so I would go back if hankering for Chinese food! Parking is the usual hit or miss street parking, can be difficult to find around that area.

i will start by saying i really like the location on monterey and thought it was convenient there was a closer location and i am very disappointed the food is horrible i ordered for pick up on uber eats and am wondering if it the food is the same for costumers that come in and order food they gave me the wrong rice horribly burnt chicken, onion pancakes were so dry and taste stale save yourself some money and get better food even from chains like panda express and id even go as far aa to say the food at chain boba places like quicklys and boba guys is better

Highly recommended by our Hotel staff for Dim Sum, and it did not disappoint. We arrived after lunch rush, and we're seated fairly quickly. Our orders were taken, and in no time, out of the kitchen arrived our meal, savory, hot, and flavorful. It was not too expensive, and we enjoyed the friendly waitstaff and knowledge of certain items on the menu for questions.

Begoni huddles up together with many other dim sum, bakeries, and Chinese restaurant at the heart of Chinatown. And quite frankly, it is difficult to stand out. To sum it up, Begoni runs a middle line, but manages to bring it the home style love into their food, and serves this in a reasonably sized establishment for group dining. The atmosphere is a typical Chinese restaurant. Nothing special. Paper table covers. A classy but dated bar. Plenty of red tones. It's quite spacious and our group of 10 had no problem finding a spot. The server was super friendly and felt like he was part of the owner's family. Very welcoming. Begoni is classified as a dim sum place so that's what we went for. What really makes their dim sum stand out is that every one of the pieces feel like it was hand crafted. Definitely not your commercial mass produced dim sum. And yes, because of this, some are not perfect. But these imperfections actually add to the authenticity and the love your uncle might put into preparing dim sum for his family. The taste is plentiful and bold. The siu mai was bursting with flavor. The pork bun was fun. And the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves really rung nostalgia from my grandmother. Begoni isn't perfect. But it was never meant to be. Begoni is family love turned into a restaurant.

We dined for brunch and had Dim sum. We ordered 6 items of which two were not available. The service was ok but the server was quiet and not very helpful, perhaps if could have been a language barrier. However, what we did order was delicious and fresh. The only thing we didn’t like was the state of the restrooms which were dirty and gave us a yuk feeling. A shame because the Resturant itself was fairly clean and tidy.

Upon arrival our party realized we made a reservation at the other Z&Y. However, the host was able to help us out and get us seated as quickly as possible before the kitchen took their last orders. The presentation of the food was attractive. Some of the standout dishes were the stir-fried crab, cumin lamb and the almond cream dessert. Loved how the crab & lamb were just sizzling on the hot plate when they came out! The soup dumplings were also a solid order with awesome texture and flavor, but the cumin lamb was my favorite. If you can handle lots of Szechuan peppers then you’ll love the crab as it’s quite numbing. The mung bean flour noodle in that dish was the intriguing part for me with their unique texture and color. There were subtle areas of service that could be improved. For example, leaving the bottle of water on table so that we didn’t have empty glasses. Secondly, there was a server that was rushing to drop the hot plate for the crab and spilled our sauce for soup dumplings. Other than that they were efficient and gave us great recommendations and stayed on top of waters for most of the dinner. Our favorite part of the experience was our server, Jake! He had told us he opened the location and was at the other Z&Y for 10 years. Jake was great with recommendations and had a fun sense of humor ;) He let us see and use his POS, as we were needing out since we’re all hospitality professionals. He introduced us to Chef Han, and we had an awesome time getting to know him and learn about his journey. It was a memorable experience, and well definitely be back for the Peking Duck!

We were lucky enough to get a last minute reservation. Coming from Hong Kong, it’s safe to say this is truly an authentic culinary experience. It’s recommended to pre-book the peking duck, and its 100% worth it! We’re looking forward to coming back.

We came here at dinner time around 8pm and got seated right away. We got the Sesame Noodles, the Sesame chicken, steamed pork dumplings and Wonton soup. I had totally forgot that you can ask the servers to pick for you, I would have done that if I remembered. I recommend the Sesame Chicken, it was 12/10 and the Wonton Soup, it is very different from all wonton soups I’ve ever had, the soup was silky smooth, and it was served with toasted rice in the soup I think? It was amazing. The Sesame noodles didn’t stand out for me, it reminds me of Spaghetti noodles fusion type, it was okay, same with the steamed pork dumplings. I did noticed most of their customers were non-Asians, maybe this place is more geared towards that demographic, the food is a little salty in my opinion. Service was very quick, fast and efficient. Staffs are super friendly and nice. I would come back again to try the Sizzling rice and the sesame chicken again—which according to my boyfriend, the best he’s ever had, and he is from SoCal. I tend to have my bias towards more authentic traditional type of food, but this was definitely a hit. I would want to go try out his daughter’s restaurant, House of Fang for the modernized Chinese style as well

Super bomb Chinese food! Loved the Honey Apple Chicken dish (the apples are insane), the Scallion Pancake and the Sesame Tofu. So good we went two days in a row. Great atmosphere and the fire comes out so fast.

You will get drastic diarrhea after eating here! The waitress here is condescending and it took them half an hour from receiving the order to putting the hotpot on your desk. Trust me. It's better off eating hotpot at home.

Quality is decent and the ambiance is nice, but the prices are outrageous for hot pot. They are very stingy with their portions as well. You can do much better in SF for hot pot (especially around Sunset/Richmond). Came here once and have never returned since

Super bummed. Have enjoyed Elaine’s kitchen in the past. Tonight they sent the worst chicken. Super dry and hard. Almost as if it had already been cooked but then cooked again to heat it up. Both general TSO’s and orange chicken had to be thrown out. This is the second time in a row. Thought last time was just a bad night. Apparently not.

As a family owned restaurant giving this place a 5 star for the great hospitality, delicious food and speed of service. Spring rolls, even though deep fried, however very fresh, crispy and done on fresh oil. Would highly recommend spicy basil chicken, which was surprisingly mouth drooling. At the end we’ve got complimentary desert. The owner was nice to step out and introduce herself. Thank you, Elaine, it’s pleasure to meet you and know you. Will see you next time.

Z&Y is a must for anyone who lives in San Fransisco or is visiting! My favorite part of the meal was the orange chicken and the steamed pork dumplings. The food came quick and the restaurant was so clean. One thing is the Dan Dan noodles are a bit spicy. If you can handle spice, get them. The flavor is good but the spice is high. My family is visiting and it has been our favorite restaurant. (Above is a genuine review by my 11 year old son - the rest of us also loved the mu shu pork and vegetable delight, and agree that the service was fantastic. Definitely recommend to anyone!)

We were in the area and saw the restaurant was fairly popular. Turns out it's a local favorite. The Michelin guide has recommended the places a few times over the years. We ordered dumplings, egg fried rice and twice cooked pork. The rice and dumpling were excellent. The twice cooked pork was mostly good, just a few pieces that were dry or tasted less seasoned than the rest. Overall the experience was great. We came on Saturday night and only had to wait about 20 minutes.

Was recommended to point out that they mentioned it was one of the few chinese spots that had served food with a Hong Kong style flair. They had such great service that they catered to our every need. The lady who waited on us was attentive and kind. Her helpers were prompt and served us well. Our orders were... The chicken fried rice plate. From the lunch special menu. The roast duck over white rice. Roast pork with bean curds over white rice. Chicken cashew with vegeys over white rice. And Asian noodles with mushrooms. It was nice. I would recommend it.

Fun atmosphere...the food is wonderful. We had Orange Chicken and the Tomato Beef Chow Mein. Both dishes were very tasty!!! The Potstickers were really good too!!!

Really authentic Shanghai flavor with affordable price. We ordered the fried horsehair crab with topokki and it is the best I ever had in the US. Highly recommend!!

Good Shanghai fare, especially the gong pao chicken and the string beans. The food is pretty salty, which I like. Some of the dishes were not as flavorful as I hoped. Friendly service.

So many old school restaurants in Chinatown and this was one of the best - Family lunch - 3 of us have been here and two had not. We had so much fun and the food was super good. Love the sisters who took care of us especially Annie the younger sister LOL. Celebrating our sister C bd. Thank you best part of our day.

This is a a 50-year old SF Chinatown restaurant serving wonderful Cantonese food. It is know.l also as the Pork Chop house. Its most famous dish is the Roast Pork Rice plate. They have perfected it! Don’t be fooled by its unassuming decor (one can easily miss the place). The people there are friendly and often throw in 1-2 fried dumplings for you! Recommend! Update: 11/10/24 Their 3-dish meal with rice and soup is delicious and very reasonable. A lot of times, the owner provides free dessert or a potsticker. They are super friendly too! I highly recommend anyone to give this restaurant (also called Port Chop House) a try
