Mi Mexico Restaurant Jalisco Style # 2
A Hidden Gem for Comfort Food Lovers On a rainy, muggy day like today, nothing hits the soul quite like a steaming bowl of caldo de res...and Mi Mexico Restaurant delivered in every way. Tucked away just beyond the train tracks on a bustling street, this spot is a true hidden gem for those craving authentic, home-cooked Mexican flavors. The caldo de res arrived piping hot, filled with tender, fall-apart beef and perfectly soft vegetables that soaked up every bit of the rich, bold broth. The seasoning was on point & deep, hearty, and layered with flavor that felt like it had been simmering for hours. Paired with fluffy, soft homemade corn tortillas, it was a meal that instantly transported me to childhood memories of comfort and warmth. And let me tell you about the rice...it was 100% perfect. Light, fluffy, and flavorful, I couldn’t contain myself! I had to dump it all into my caldo, and it took the whole dish to the next level. This place is the real deal, and I already know I’ll be back ha ha probably tomorrow! If you’re in the mood for something that warms both the body and the soul, run to Mi Mexico before they run out!
Had a great experience at a local restaurant. Mi Mexico is not much to look at, but the interior is beautiful, new, and spacious. Our aerver was great, she took care of our request and was friendly. Our plates were large, reasonably priced and tasted great. We came after the lunch rush but before the bar was open, I think next time we will enjoy a few drinks with a dinner visit.
Sukeban Sushi & Champagne Bar
Had a nice experience on a date night at Sukeban, on late November 2024! Despite the small place being a little packed that day, we got attentive service. The restaurant has a nice, cozy atmosphere. The pork gyoza appetizer was good and crispy. I went for their Philadelphia Roll, and they were accommodating when I asked to remove the avocado. Using goat cheese instead of cream cheese on the roll is a great switch-up on a classic, and I really enjoyed it. I would've liked a little more fish inside the roll, but at the same time, I appreciate the size of the pieces as they are on point. My partner thought he didn't like sushi but was surprised after trying a piece of my roll and actually liking it! He ordered the chicken teriyaki, which was a generous portion. For dessert we shared the fried ice cream, an interesting warm and cold treat. All in all, everything was nice and we would probably go back. Their happy hour sounds like a good deal.
I've been homesick and really missing good fresh sashimi (I'm from Vancouver BC where we have some of the best seafood in the world). I found this place online and it's super cute and clean inside. I love the dark moody ambiance mixed with the colorful murals. I ordered three types of nigiri: fatty salmon, scallop, and yellowtail. They came out quickly and were decent, although I know that I have high expectations because of the seafood we get back home. The raw seafood here has a different texture than what I'm used to, it was really mushy and warm. I have never had sashimi like that! I also ordered the miso soup which was nice and hot, but it was a little too salty for my liking. Big sized portion though. The staff were super nice and attentive. I saw the chef scratch his nose with his fingers though, and not wash his hands, which made me a little grossed out!
Tokyo Cowboy
In my opinion the food was decent, the braised beef is like a curry dish but alittle strong in salt in my opinion, the pork belly was my favorite dish out of the lunch menu as it has a sweetness of hosion sauce but the rice fit it nicely, the Mac and cheese was alittle too mild and did not have alot of flavor. I would say it is alittle long on getting food even though we only had 2 other tables that was here at the restaurant. Over I could come back to try their dinner menu to get a better comparison.
We specifically chose this restaurant for our dinner before watching the Sailor Moon Live at the Majestic Theater on a Tuesday night. Japanese and Texas fusion and here for it!! It was quite busy for a Tuesday dinner at 6pm but service was great! We git sat down right away but we also reserved a table. Atmosphere at this place was vibrant, the restaurant has this unique walls of cactus wallpaper but details of a Japanese vibe reminding me of an older house or traditional houses in Japan. Very chic and modern. Our server was attentive and food came out pretty quickly too. We are a group of three, ordered their Kimchi salad, Krab rolls, Furikake fries, Kaarage chicken, Dashi Corn Waffle and Shrimp noodles and their desserts Matcha tres leches and Yuzu Meringue Tart. Everything was pretty good but our favorites were the kimchi salad, Kaarage chicken and the Matcha tres leches. The corn waffle I think for me surprised me coz I'm used to a fluffy waffle but that was me not realizing it's a corn waffle not flour. Lol! But I just didn't like the harder texture. My friend's daughter didn't like the texture of the Yuzu tart but her mom loves it! 😅 Portions were just right for the price I think and can't go wrong doing family style eating! Thank you! I recommend this place for a Japanese and Texan fusion!
The Aquaduck Beer Garden
A great chill place to hang out and drink on the outside patio with my daughter and friends
If you’re looking for a hidden gem that’s a bit secluded, Aquaduck is your spot. They offer live music, great happy hour drinks, and indulgent food options. Makes for a great night out with friends. The pizza and wings are definitely a must. Parking is limited, so you might want to make arrangements beforehand.
Sawasdee Thai Cuisine
Sawasdee has been in our favorite restaurant rotation for a long time at least 15 years. They have always had a great menu with great lunch options that are generous portions and come with a salad with a great unique dressing that I love. I usually stick to a curry dish but have liked everything I’ve tried. On our most recent trip I tried a special off the white board and was surprised with a three types of curry plate with tempura shrimp. It was very good and way too much food so I was able to have seconds later for dinner! The family that owns the restaurant has always been kind and accommodating and friendly. If you like Thai food give this place a try and support this small business!
If you’re looking for authentic Thai food, Sawasdee Thai Cruise is the place to go! The Papaya Salad is absolutely amazing — just like what you’d get in Thailand. Every dish we tried was full of flavor and tasted truly authentic. The owner and staff were so warm, welcoming, and friendly — they made us feel right at home. The restaurant is also very clean and has a great atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone craving real Thai food and great service!
AAFES Food Court
Safe place to grab a bite. Choices are QDOBA MEXICAN FOOD, SLIM CHICKENS, CHARLEYS PHILLY STEAKS, SUBWAY SARKU JAPAN, BOBA + ACAI BUBBLE TEAM & SMOOTHI CAFE, and Starbucks.. Plenty of seating, great atmosphere, and shopping at the AAFES STORES and vendors.
Probably one of the worst Base food courts in the nation, which is a shame since Fort Sam is overall so iconic. Let’s start with Ming. The Chinese food is embarrassing, flavorless and most likely reheated from a frozen bag. The fried rice is dull and the egg rolls don’t have any real seasoning. Panda Express would be a Michelin Star restaurant if it were compared to this. Sarku Japan is just as bad with fried dumplings that are chewy in such a bad way. The chicken teriyaki bento is over sauces and way too salty. It’s connected to Ming so it’s easy to assume they are buying their products from the same Sam’s Club frozen section. Then there’s Charlie’s Philly Steaks which I would avoid if you’re from the east coast. They even have mushrooms in their cheesesteaks and other protein options. This might be a good thing if it tasted amazing, sadly it does not. Qdoba is an interesting choice but let’s be honest here it is not Mexican food and it’s annoying that it claims to be. I can’t really say anything bad about the food itself it’s just not Mexican. More like what an American from the western states would try to claim as Mexican. There are signs throughout the food court encouraging non military to eat there in case they thought they couldn’t but the reality is the food is subpar and not worth the disappointment. Here’s a radical idea, put decent quality food in the court and you will see an improvement in patronage. It’s terrible our service members are forced to have these horrible options thrust upon them. Do better AAFES.
Ilsong Garden
Wow bad. Not Korean food. I eat and cook Korean food frequently, so I'm fine with all kinds of versions of Korean food. I have a high tolerance for mediocre Korean food because I love it so much. This place is NOT Korean food, not even close to authentic. We were the only ones in the restaurant at lunch time, which should've been a tip off. I ordered the tteok-bokki 떡볶이 spicy rice cakes and 김치파전 kimchee pancake. The flavor of the rice cakes tasted like it was made with maple syrup, instead of red pepper paste and soy sauce. See photo. Weird taste, worse texture. Rice cakes must have been in a long term freezer and cooked from frozen. Low quality. Not fresh. Photo below. The savory veggie pancake literally had those string hash browns in it. It was about an inch thick and saturated in oil. Very unusual flavors, for sure not made with Korean ingredients. The side dishes 반찬 were not fresh, and not many options. I left all the food there, didn't even take a to go box, which is not like me. >.
Husband and I had the AYCE KBBQ dinner on a Saturday night, they’re open until 1:30am! AYCE includes appetizers, we ordered the fried dumplings, seafood pancake and spicy rice cakes. All the appetizers were served hot and tasted fresh! Best tteokbokki I’ve ever had! First time my husband has ever had tteokbokki and he liked it a lot! The fried dumplings were crispy and super flavorful! The seafood pancake had plenty of seafood inside and on top with a nice crispy bottom! They also have a self serve banchan station included with the meal. For our meats, we ordered the beef ribeye, beef bulgogi, la kalbi and spicy pork bulgogi. All the meats were well seasoned with generous portions! Our server was attentive and made sure we enjoyed our meal. We enjoyed our dinner and left full and happy. We will definitely be back soon!
Bill Miller BBQ
This place is fantastic. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was visiting my aunts kitchen. Sweetest employees, quality BBQ and tasty pies. This place just makes me feel like I’m home. 🏡🍗🤎
Excellent Fried Chicken 🍗😋 Thank you by my friend who recommended here to enjoy the fried chicken of this San Antonio Location.
Golden Corral Buffet & Grill
FOOD; The food is decent for a buffet. I can't give it 5 stars because some items like the shrimp may be a tad undercooked at times because the batter isn't always crisp. Cauliflower is mushy at times due to overcooking. LATEST REVIEW. March 12, 2025. FOOD: 1. We went before 4:30 pm because it's cheaper than the dinner by about 5 bucks per adult. 2. The food was somewhat improved A. They had the butterfly shrimp back, instead of the little fingernail size shrimp. . The hamburger meat for tacos is very greasy. You can often see the grease. Most other foods are pretty good. The value for seniors is 2 stars. On breakfast, seniors save 3.82% or 50 cents. On dinner. you save $1. That's a little better. SERVICE: Generally, the good bar is kept full. The waitress refills drinks and takes empty plates. Most waitresses are nice and keep drinks filled. There are a couple of elderly waitresses that are curt and watch you like a hawk. They really eye you as you are about to leave. It's like they think you're going to sneak out with food. ATMOSPHERE: The atmosphere is generally good. At really busy times. The noise level ica be.high. Some families are loud, and their kids make a mess. LATEST REVIEW: March 12, 2025. We went before 4:30 pm because it is cheaper than dinner hours 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm. FOOD: 88.78The food was better on this visit. A. They had the butterfly shrimp back, rather than the little fingernails size shrimp. B. My wife said her fried fish was better this time. C. My Chicken Noodke Soup was the canned variety, but it was fairly warm. It could have been a little warmer. D. The salad is akwaysca good staple. It's always has fresh greens, fresh veggies, fresh dressings, fresh salads (macaroni, potato), fresh in season fruits (except the pears are canned), fresh cottage cheese, and fresh dressings. E.. The rolls were fresh/soft. F. The Mac/cheese was creamy. G. The fried okra was not fried crispy enough and was lukewarm. H. The cream gravy for both tge chicken fried steak/mashed potatoes was warm, but still not thick enough. I. The brocoli and the cauliflower were warm and fresh. The cheese sauce for each was like canned nacho cheese. J. My wife's pecan pie was tasty, according to her. K. My coconut cream.pie was fresh and yummy. L. My wife also loves their banana pudding. M. Our sweet tea was refreshing and not overly sweet. We always pay the extra 50 cents for the to-go cup so we can take some with us. ATMOSPHERE: A. The pkace was clean. B. The employees were keeping up with cleaning tables. C. The food counters were sanitary as well. D. Utensils were clean. E. The plates were clean, bytvwe had to search for dry plates. SERVICE: A. Our waitress was attentive. She kept our teas full and cleared our dirty dishes in a timely manner. This visit was much improved. It will never be a 5 star restaurant. It will akways be hard to rate itba 4 or 5. It's kind of like McDonalds,, it'll do, but there are much better burger joints. As gor buffets, Golden Corral will suffice, but no rave reviews.
Exceeded expectations. Service was fantastic. Jaime was very swift and courteous, elevating our experience to the next level. Food was solid, you aren’t coming here for world class quality. They hit on every point they needed to and left me satisfied and eager to return.
Pepe Barbacoa
Barbacoa was delicious! Staff was welcoming and friendly. They were fast. Definitely recommend.
Great service & delicious barbacoa.
Tang Street
They serve traditional Chinese dishes and American-Chinese dishes to cater to those who are not familiar to the culture. We usually order the eggplant with shredded pork, mapo-tofu, the spiced lamb, and the basil fish. It's wonderful. My daughter loves her sweet'n'sour chicken and combination fried rice.
Won ton soup broth is excellent. Pepper beef was very good, especially the sauce. Lemon chicken was nice and crispy. Liked the pork fried rice allot. Egg roll was fresh cooked and tasty. Over all very good Chinese food.
Yaya's Thai Restaurant
Had the pepper steak lunch. The portions were good but I thought the food lacked flavor. I wanted my plate spicy and it was mild at best. I'm glad I tried this restaurant but I will not be back. My coworker had the opposite experience .. her plate was too salty but our waitress was so nice about it and made things right.
What a cute tucked away little eatery. Found this spot after our first choice was take out only. So glad we did. It was quiet, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the decor was pleasant. The best part was the food. It was all fresh and delicious. You can tell this was made to order. We chose a variety of dishes probably enough to feed 7 people even though there were only 4 in our party. Large portions and so tasty!
