Wonderful to hear that this restaurant has been around since 1885 (however it was under a couple of different names)! The location is a bit hidden as it’s located on basement level. The other customers who were dining here appear to be locals who come here regularly. I hope this restaurant stays as long as they can! Great honest Cantonese food! We really loved the Pork Ribs in Spicy Salt (crispy & flavourful)! They also have lunch specials here. Their set menu are such great value if you’re a seafood lover.

Kam Lok is a classic SF Chinatown basement style restaurant. I've eaten here in the past and didn't post a review. Tonight, I had the runny egg shrimp chow fun $12. This was delicious with ample wok flavor. This dish can be challenging to make because chow fun and egg are kind of plain. That gravy has to be good. Their menu is limited if you are ordering fried rice, noodles and etc. It is more family style dishes orientated with only one page for rice and noodles. Not on the menu is crispy Hong Kong style noodles, which I love. If you ask, they will make it for you. So, don't rely too much on the written menu. Service was excellent.

It’s a typical Chinese restaurant. Food was good. The Peking duck was excellent. The sweet and sour pork was just okay. The yang chow fried rice was good. The egg drop soup lacks spices. We were seated immediately and the food was brought out without much waiting.

It appears to be a local favorite. When you walk in, it takes you a world away to somewhere in Asia. Decent food, good service, and very golden decor. A little disappointing that they charge tea per person when most places offer it while you look through menu. Give this place a try if you're in China town🥳. (Hope they will stop charging tea for its patrons soon🤞🏼)

Came on Sunday at 3pm with a group of 11. They were kind enough to give us the back room, which is typically reserved in advance for huge parties (and was booked for 5pm), and it has automatic mahjong tables and a huge karaoke setup. We got the eel claypot rice, hot boiling oil fish, and a few other dishes. Always a classic, no matter which location you go to. Chinatown staple!

Its frozen food you can taste it an see because the dumplings are in aluminum foil the peking duck tasts bad and like its out of the freezer the chicken dident have much flavor i would avoid this place and the taste of the soya sauce was strange

Delicious Dim Sum in Town. The price was affordable & the portion was quite big. The service was fast and the waitresses were friendly. We ordered several dimsums such as shrimp dumpling, tofu, and shrimp w/ chive ball. Every menu taste good. U could ask for the chili oil, and there was sriracha taste. Plenty tables for u to seat and the resto was clean.

Wandering thru Chinatown town I was dream in by the delightful smells and feeling hungry. The dim sum options were easy to navigate in multiple languages (including English) and everything I ate I enjoyed! The Peking duck in particular was a stand out!

Came here as a group of 11 on Sunday 1pm! We got 2 claypot rice's and 2 greens. So delicious, and they added hot broth to the crispy rice at the bottom of the claypot for extra flavor and deliciousness 😁

Don’t understand why the rating is so low?! The food is so good and the service is top notch!! Ordered wonton soup, beef and green beans and BBQ clams. I also went back to order General tzo’s chicken for my friend. Loved them all. If you’re looking for authentic Chinese food, this is the place to go.

We ordered a variety of items of the menu they were all really good but the best part is how it’s a gem of a place hidden in plain sight. We sat on the balcony and the atmosphere was just a dream. You can see a lil bit of history on the walls with all the black and white historical time captured moments as you walk up to be seated. Let them find you on the street as you walk on by and be v led to a lovely experience.

Welcome to the birth place of Chinese food as we know it in the United States! This is an authentic experience, with quality ingredients, generous portions, and friendly service. Our Dim Sum for 2 was under $100 (with automatic tip + rice wine + complimentary green tea ice cream). This is a local favorite for a reason 🥰 Tourists - if this seems steep, welcome to California. We care about our amazing service workers and we want them properly compensated for the love they put into the fresh cuisine they share with us 💗 the price reflects. Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate 🐍

I visited as a tourist and even though they were close to closing our server welcomed us in. He was very kind and suggested items from the menu. Our food came out hot and had lots of flavor. They did not rush us and let us enjoy our dinner. I had a positive experience here and was probably one of the most welcoming restaurants we visited during our trip to San Fransico.

I typically refrain from leaving negative reviews, but after my recent experience, I feel compelled to share my concerns in hopes that others can avoid the same treatment I endured. Unfortunately, my experience with the service at this establishment was deeply disappointing. The servers were not only unprofessional but also dismissive and condescending. When an order was forgotten, instead of taking responsibility, the staff accused me of lying and attempting to get "free food." I found this accusation both shocking and uncalled for, and it significantly impacted my perception of the restaurant. As someone who values the local community, I would not want tourists or visitors to have their experience in Chinatown marred by such negative interactions. There are many wonderful dining options in the area that offer both excellent food and respectful customer service. I would strongly encourage others to explore those alternatives. Given my experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to anyone. It’s unfortunate that a place with so much potential has such a poor approach to customer service. I hope this feedback helps others make an informed decision.

The place is in a Grand Opening and on the second floor of the building. If you have any difficulty with stairs or require help the restaurant is worth the climb to eat. The atmosphere is quite with lots of pictures from the last century on the walls, very enjoyable to look at and appreciate the history of China Town. I'm definitely recommending eating here. There was three of us eating. We had the San Francisco special which was $25.00 per person. The quality and the quantity is well worth the price. There is a parking garage across the street from the restaurant for easy walking.

Enjoyed all of our appetizers. Restaurant on second floor of building and the stairs are steep. Lunch was good.

We came here on whim and it was a good choice. I’ve seen this place a few times getting a tea next door but never tried it. I forgot to take more pictures bc I was busy shoveling food in my face but we got the bean sauce noodles, the dumplings in beef broth and the pork & chives baozi and chives baozi that’s pan fried. Everything was SO good, flavorful and HUGE portions. My husband and I could have split one order of the buns and 1 entree. The prices were crazy good and the portion sizes are astronomically huge. Everything was fresh and each dish had a different taste profile. I will def be back. So so good 🥰🥰 Also, everything is self serve—water, condiments, cutlery and to go containers

My absolute favorite restaurant in all of Houston!!! The most delicious roast beef soup you will EVER have you in your life. Service is fast and price is very affordable. Massive portion sizes! The dumplings are divine as well. Highly recommend coming here!!!
