朱嬢嬢重庆火锅
Strange strange place
Chinese people don’t lie to Chinese people. I ordered the extra spicy pot base, which was delicious. The soup base will be slightly bitter if cooked for a long time. The quality of black belly mutton is online.
Chu Shang Spicy 厨尚麻辣
Food was really good: despite how insanely spicy it was (I literally started coughing), it was extremely savory, flavorful, and good for the price. The waitress was also really nice and I had a good time here: the robot deserves some praise too lol. 9/10
Recommend: make your own bowl (soup and stir fry) Good: Peking duck wrap, fried fish fillet. Be careful the spicy is pretty spicy. If you would normally order medium at other restaurants, I would suggest getting mild here. The scallops were not worth it in the stir fry but we were impressed that some specialty ingredients like the pig's blood, pea sprouts, and chanterelle mushrooms were available. They do cook everything together so some of the leafy greens might be a bit wilted. The fried fish was nicely crispy but tasted more like breading than fish
Shaxian Delicacies
We got overcharged and the waitress is very rude. They told us that the menu was old and therefore didn’t reflect the right price, which means they could charge whatever they want. We ordered four dishes, and they charged us $38 even though it should only cost $33 based on the menu.
A strange lunch experience that left an unsettled feeling (more figuratively than literally). We were a bit taken aback when we arrived and were seated at the same table as a mother and her kid who were still eating. An awkward 5 minutes followed, as we tried our best not to stare rudely while they hurriedly finished their meal! We ordered some small plates (wontons, fish balls, etc), and though there were some interesting flavors (sour broth with pieces of celery), the food felt sloppily prepared with MSG propping up a lot of the taste. The fried taro cakes were probably the best of our order — golden & crispy outside, soft and melty inside. Then our bill was added up by hand, totaling about 10% more than menu prices, but I didn't have the heart to ask the very stressed out restaurant staff to recalculate.
Su Su Gourmet
The most authentic food that I have ever had in the US, also very new customer friendly. It is an experience you should never miss out on.
Hidden gem! Very tasty and authentic food! We ordered lotus root with braised pig trotter and stir fried green pepper and tofu. The next door ordered bao zai fan and it smelled so good! Wish it’s warmer during winter though as the door opens directly to outside.
Winsor Dim Sum Café
I’ve found my go-to dim sum spot!! Windsor Dim Sum Cafe is absolutely awesome. Every dish we tried was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The food was fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. Plus, the service was quick, and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. Already planned my next trip here ♨️
Google reviews scared me but Reddit locals swear by Windsor so we stopped in on Sunday for lunch. We loved everything, the staff was helpful with the menu, the hot tea was very good. The dim sum arrived to the table fast and was very fresh! Since there were only 2 of us we did share a big round table with 3 others patrons with no issues. It’s a very small place but we didn’t have to wait. We recommend the soup dumplings, steamed pork buns, sticky rice in lotus leaf wrap, and the scallion pancakes. That’s everything we ordered, didn’t have a bad bite at all. All dim sum was 6.95 per plate. 2 plates per person (shared) was all we could do before we were full.
Peach Farm
Solid spot in Chinatown for Cantonese classics. Came here for dinner on a Tuesday evening. Chinatown is generally quiet on weekdays, so it was a bit surprising to see the restaurant almost full. Since none of us were experts on Cantonese food, we didn’t want to explore unfamiliar terrain, so we opted for their most popular menu - Ginger & Scallion Lobster, Roast Duck, and the Steamed oysters. As soon as we ordered, our server suddenly appeared with a huge bucket with a live lobster inside. We didn’t realize there was a size option when ordering the Ginger & Scallion Lobster and casually said “large”. Seconds later, our server appeared with a bucket and a live lobster, asking us to confirm. The lobster itself was nicely done—lightly coated in cornstarch for a delicate crisp, though the ginger-scallion flavor was more subtle than expected. Delicious, but borderline impossible to eat without fully committing your hands. The Steamed Oysters were the biggest oysters I’ve ever seen. Not sure if they were a special breed or straight-up GMO, but either way, the size alone was shocking. Taste-wise, pretty standard, but the meaty texture was satisfying. Crispy Fried Roast Duck was my favorite of the meal. A bit on the salty side, but it didn’t matter. Despite being drenched in soy sauce, the skin stayed perfectly crisp, and the meat inside was juicy, fatty, and tender. On the side, we also ordered the Stir Fried Chinese Watercress and Yang Chow Fried Rice. Both were solid, no-frills staples done the Classic Cantonese way. Probably not the most budget-friendly spot in Chinatown. Yet, with traditional Cantonese joints slowly fading from the trend, places like this are getting harder to come by. Would probably come back now and then just for another rundown of that duck.
Hard to narrow-down options in an area filled with so many options but I would definitely make this a stop if you happen to be in the area. My first time having clams prepared with black bean sauce but the pairing worked well. Vegetable fried rice really stood out with ample vegetables to round out the dish versus relying on the starch, which most places do.
Liyin Rice Roll Master
So good. Been craving authentic rice rolls but didn’t want to haul to Chinatown. Only downside is there’s a ton of MSG, but otherwise it’s AMAZING
I thought it was pretty tasty. The combo is great value.
Taishan Cuisine
The only good thing about this place is that it’s open late. But honestly, if you’re craving late-night food, you’d be better off getting a bowl of pho or ramen elsewhere. - Food Quality (2/5): The claypot rice was missing the signature crispy bottom layer. The beef bone soup was just plain broth with ginger and lotus root, absolutely not worth $24.95. The “Five Flavor Goose” turned out to be sweet-and-sour goose, which was way too sweet. They should’ve just done a proper Hong Kong-style roast goose. The clams? Way too salty, completely overwhelming. - Service & Pricing (0/5): The worst part? They automatically add tips to your bill without notice, even though tipping is voluntary in California. Not only that, but they included takeout items in the total bill to calculate the tip, which is completely unfair and deceptive! Tipping is meant for service, not takeout. On top of that, they still print suggested tip amounts to squeeze even more money out of customers. - Ambiance (1/5): The place is old and dirty, adding to the disappointment. For the price, the food was disappointing, the service was rude, and the sneaky tipping practice was unethical. Save yourself the frustration, go somewhere else!
The yellow eel rice is great. The pork feet rice is poorly cooked. Other food we ordered (five-spice goose and a veggie) are just OK. The hygiene condition is worth improving. The red circle in the photo shows a cockroach.
Happy Chinese Restaurant
The food is pretty great here, very authentic and delicious! The servers are not very conversant in English, so communication may be a challenge. Their duck, fish, pepper ribs, and chicken dishes really stand out.
Really good place to experience some real Chinese food not like we are used to. Take cash with u and don’t fell intimidated by only asían people there my kids felt that way but afterwards they felt comfortable and the staff are friendly. Love the place
New Asia Restaurant
They turned the restaurant into a supermarket! It's awesome! The veggies look very fresh and they have just about everything. The best thing here is the giant aisles!!! You can shop without crowding with all the grannies on Stockton St. Oh and they have some dope snack selections 👌👌👌
This was the best dim sum I had while visiting San Francisco. The service was good and the location was close to a couple of parking garages.
Duk Hing Chinese Deli & Meat
Updated 9/2024 Again, amazing lamb meat. Their goat meat is not always available - but even better if possible at all…. —— The lamb is amazing! They sell Raw lamb here which is good to cook anything - stew, red braise, you name it. They also cook their own lamb, which is the best in town, in my opinion - not too firm not too soft, just right! And the flavor, omg! To duck here is not Peking duck, it’s Cantonese style bbq duck, huge difference. It’s pretty good, a bit too fatty to my liking but it has authentic taste and good texture. It’s understood that if you buy a duck, get the whole duck; if you get half of the duck, there’s not telling whether you get the good part of bad part. The review here reflects this: for those who get the good duck parts, they think it’s normal and don’t leave a review; those who get the bad parts leave nasty review. This is not fair. The duck is good. Get the whole duck.
After seeing some old reviews I felt a bit reluctant to try & i already had my ‘goto’ Roast Duck place … but for a roast duck tasting. Party we needed more ducks . after viewing some great looking ducks in the window, took one home & found it to b the tastiest ducks of the 4 we got
Yummy Yummy
A comforting bowl of char siu wonton rice noodles that hits all the right spots. The broth is light yet flavorful, with that perfect homemade taste. The wontons are plump and juicy, the char siu tender and sweet, and the flat noodles silky and smooth. Fresh green onions and cilantro on top add the perfect finish. Simple, honest food that warms the soul—love it.
Locals love the friendly service and the clean environment. The chicken clay pot rice noodle is really delicious and does not hurt your pocket. Good dim sum overall with Chinese dessert you don't find anywhere else. Updated: 12/31/24. Their dim sum and rice/noodle dishes are as their name - yummy! The braised green pepper and their yummy special rice noodle bowl are a must-try.
