China Cafe
The General Tso's sauce left a film in my mouth that felt like what can only be described as a light chemical burning sensation.
Yuckš¤®and a waste of money. I ordered general toast chicken with pork fried rice. Thereās no taste and leave an odd after taste in your mouth. Very disappointed and will not be returning as a customer
Blue Orchid Pan Asian Cuisine and BAR
First of all, LOVED the pride support! Came in for lunch with my partner. Atmosphere, staff, and food were amazing! Will be coming back. They had a cup full of pride flags by the door and I was happy I was allowed to take one home when I left. Iāll be hanging it up in my office! Parking wasnāt easy, but thatās New Haven for ya.
Awesome Thai in downtown New Haven!! Super authentic and reasonably priced. Truly a gem of a spot. The food was delicious and perfect night out with friends. They also have trivia on Thursday nights which was super fun and itās a queer friendly space 𤩠they really make an effort to make it known that this is a safe space. They even have free condoms!

Meh, definitely overpriced for what you get. The portions are super small, and they limit you to just 3 toppingsācilantro counts as a topping, seriously? The corn was literally just boiled with zero flavor. We tried one bowl with noodles and another with brown rice, and both were incredibly bland. Thereās no depth or seasoning, just very underwhelming overall. Honestly, I donāt get the hype at all.
Absolutely yucky! In all my years Iāve never eaten something like these. I ordered the noodles after long wait as the server was very slow. When I first took a bite I thought that the noodles were horrible! They were overcooked, soggy, and overall absolutely disgusting. I know this review may hurt the student entrepreneursā feelings, but I also really hope they could improve.
Sushi Palace
Everything about the food here was great. I went alone as I do most places that I do reviews for because I have time to sit and think about my food, the service, the environment, as oppose to when Iām with friends or family, which can be sometimes distracting. The sushi here is great. Itās a good lunch spot for yourself or with a friend. Itās definitely not the spot to take a large group. My favorite sushi roll was the sweet potato roll.
Recently dined at this fantastic restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. They offer an all-you-can-eat menu for $30, and during weekdays, you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat lunch for just $21.99. The sushi was delicious, with each piece freshly prepared and flavorful. Other items on the menu were equally good, showcasing a variety of tasty options. The staff were courteous and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience for everyone. Highly recommended for both sushi lovers and those looking to enjoy a variety of dishes at a great value.
Jasa Asian Cuisine
Had our first meal at Jasa the night before Thanksgiving. What a fantastic surprise to find such delicious, beautifully prepared Chinese food right on Dixwell in Hamden. Our big group ordered all over the menu, with dishes ranging from straight-down-the-middle Cantonese-American and Sichuan classics (Peking Duck, Dan Dan noodles) to more unusual dishes like Dong Po Braised pork and Mouth-numbing Chicken. Everything was delicious - super-fresh vegetables, crisp skin on the duck, real heat in the spicy dishes. Seriously excited to go back.
Third time visiting Jasa tonight. This place is amazing. Food is fresh, everything is delicious. Would recommend Jasa if you are looking for a place to come get great food, talk and hear yourself talk with your guests perfect. Have tried apps, entree, and sushi also. I so recommend all.
Jimmies Place
Iāve been driving by Jimmieās Place my whole life, and after 25 years of curiosity, decided to stop in! It gives dive bar vibes, but WOW is the food incredible! I was seriously not expecting the variety of wing flavors on the menu, and the creativity at that! We absolutely loved their sour cream and onion, dill pickle, and honey Cajun flavors, and our pretzels with homemade queso and Mac and cheese were fantastic! The food came out quickly, and our server was friendly and attentive. Iām so glad I finally stopped in and I plan on coming back the next time Iām craving good wings and comfort food!
Jimmieās is one of our favorite places to grab a beer and some of the best food. It only made sense to get their food truck to cater a graduation party. Every single guest raved about how great the food was! The wings were amazing! The service was top tier! We will definitely recommend and hire them again in the future.
Food Star Asian Market
While visiting family, I decided to make Tom Yum. After a valiant attempt searching both high-&-low for one of the main ingredients ākaffir lime leavesā. The only local store in the area that carried it was Food Star Market. After walking around inside, I noticed several main Asian ingredients you wouldnāt be able to find at your local Stop & Shop. Over-all place was clean and people were very helpful. They also had a small restaurant inside; which I didnāt try. My advice, if you are searching for particular Asian ingredients, this store might be your best shot in the area. Worth calling or stopping-by to exam what you can use to produce some delicious Asian meals.
My friends and I got the opportunity to dine in at the restaurant today. It was a quiet setting but itās very cozy. The general tsoās chicken with pork fried rice was absolutely delicious. That was the best pork fried rice iāve ever had, you could tell it was flavored and cooked with love. Such a bonus that it is connected to the market and you get to choose between a variety of asian snacks! This place definitely feels family owned and I will definitely be coming more frequently and telling more people about this place! 5 Star
House of Chao Rest. TAKEOUT ONLY
By far one of the best Chinese food restaurants. Let me repeat that, one of the best Chinese food restaurants. Everything is made to order and is fresh. None of these mystery meat meals; the chicken is chunks of fresh white meat. The food is full of flavor, and the portion is just more than enough, leaving you satisfied!! I shouldn't even be writing this because my wait times are already long enough, coming in around 50 minutes or so.
Food was excellent and very healthy. I had the chicken and broccoli combination platter. It was some of the best I ever had. Chicken was nice and tender and very crispy. Broccoli and carrots were very delicious. Definitely will be going back. House of Chao is my new favorite Chinese restaurant. Would recommend to anyone who is passing through the Westville New Haven area and looking for good quality Chinese food šš
Toro Sushi
This is hands down the best sushi I have ever had. NOTHING compares to the quality, flavors and artistry that goes into these rolls!!! You need to try their sushi specifically from the specials wall. Their "regular menu" rolls are also incredible! Their rolls are unique and there literally isn't a bad one on there! They put alot of effort creating unique rolls and they are absolutely fantastic. Been going for years and will always be a loyal customer!! The owner Tony and his family have always remembered us and make every visit so wonderful. We even will ask for "surprise me" rolls when we just can't decide what to get, and he knocks it out of the park every time! We love you guys!!!! Take out is super easy, they are very fast! Usually your order will be done within 20 mins of your call. You can also get a large variety of sake and japanese beers to bring home. Dine in is very nice! The atmosphere is calm and your server is very attentive! We always get seated then walk up to the specials wall in the main room, choose what to get and order a few minutes later. Hot sake for the table. It's very nice. Their Kani salad is wonderful for an appetizer. Our favorite rolls are the cool roll, new years eve roll, wasabi rolls, amazing roll, samurai roll and Sako rolls.
i have been going here for years and i can guarantee it is THE best sushi place ever! the people here are so kind and friendly and the food is perfect as always. i love going here with my family. toro never fails to impress. š
Thai Palace
I have not had the chance to dine in, but I do know the chicken skewers are fantastic and the Thai Iced Tea here is next to no other! My daughter and I get Thai iced teas often. This place has a deceiving parking lot but cozy feeling/decor inside. Can't wait to try more.
This was a random spot that the hubby and I wanted to go a few years, and today we were finally able to try it. It was laid back atmosphere, very comfy with tradition asian artwork around the restaurant. We ordered the steam dumplings (chicken and shrimp), extra spicy chicken pad thai, and chicken pad see ew. Everything was delicious, cooked to perfection. This restaurant was worth the wait.
Pho & Spice
I had an amazing dining experience! The food was absolutely delectable, bursting with authentic flavors. The service was friendly and attentive, and the place was impeccably clean. I loved the generous portions, all at a reasonable price. The atmosphere was inviting, making it a perfect spot to unwind. I can't wait to return for another fantastic meal!
Never had pho and it was DELICIOUS. So packed with flavor. All kinds of sauces and toppings available to add on. Coconut shrimp was delicious. Curry appetizer was delicious. Service was excellent. Definitely would recommend and Definitely would go back.
Singo Sushi
For years Iāve heard rave reviews about Singo, so my mother-in-law, husband, and I stopped in for dinner tonight. While itās exceptionally cold outside at the moment, I donāt think there was any heat on at all - it was freezing in the restaurant! Sat down and my chair cushion popped off of the seat and had to swap it out. Server was nice and food arrived quickly, we were in and out in an hour. However, we found everything to be extremely average. Theyāre known for their baked rolls, and Iām still left wondering exactly what that means. I had the chicken teriyaki roll, which was mostly filled with cucumber, and the sushi pieces were so huge that it was difficult to eat. I also ordered the steak teriyaki, and Iāve never received it like this before. The teriyaki sauce was non-existent, and it had very thin slices of beef that were mostly fat. Definitely was not worth the $23. My husband said his hot night 2 roll was overly drowned in sauce and had too much rice, and his salmon was sliced so thin that you could actually see the wasabi underneath - at all of the places weāve been to, weāve never seen that before. My mother in law was fine with the tuna tartare. Weāre really left wondering what all of the hype is about.
Been coming here for years. Some of the best sushi in CT! Always fresh and delicious. It's byob and there's a small package store next door.
