East Lake Chinese Restaurant and Dim Sum (東湖海鮮酒家)
One of the best Chinese restaurants in this area of San Jose. On the pricey side for Chinese food though, which as you know is generally cheap. We went on a week day so they didn’t have the lunch dim sum carts rolling. I think they do on weekends. But you can order dim sum through the waiter. The wet chow fun is yummy. Soft noodles, a decent amount of beef, and tasty gravy. Jin mein is crispy chow mein, and if you’ve never had it, I recommend to try of you like texture in your food. I mentioned dim sum so at least try the ha how (shrimp dumpling) and shu mai (pork dumpling). They’re big and plump. Jook (aka congee) is very good and you MUST get the Chinese donut (aka fried bread) to pair with it! I do NOT recommend the soup dumplings (aka XLB). They are terrible.
I was on the way to a different place and found dimsum! The rice rolls stood out the most and the onion pancake! Loved the shrimp and eggplant, tripe and the chicken feet!
New Sam Kee Restaurant
One of the few restaurant that is safe to eat regularly. Other places has too much spice n chemical gives me all sort of problems gum bleed, nose bleed, backache, thirsty n sore throat.. Staff cares about how customer feels, provide shade when it's sunny, close door when you are cold... The waitress gives very good recommendations. I like their fried foods: rice, ribs, crabs, calamari.. Update: aug 2024 surf clam glass noddle serves on 2 shells quality drop from 5 down to 2, chewy, dry taste metallic clam, no longer fresh just frozen. Lobster is still good but yesterday nooddle werent as good as before. Owner is annoying telling me to move to smaller table to reserve table for people who never come. Before I even heard arguments in the kitchen so apparently someone is not so pleasant.
Ordered the Lobster garlic noodles, roasted chicken and noodles soup, eggrolls. Very delicious!!! Chicken was roasted just the way I like it! And my hubby enjoyed the Lobster noodles. And my soup had no MSG, I knew this because after eating it, I did not have a headache lol Great food and good customer service. 👌
Hunan Taste Restaurant
Best Chinese food ever. We’ve been going here for 30+ years and the quality has remained exceptional. The meat pie and onion cake are so yummy. We’ve tried almost everything and you can’t go wrong with anything you order. Francis, the owner, is kind and welcoming and the service is great. And prices are very reasonable. Also, they have many vegan options, which my daughter and son in law loved! All diets welcome. Must go.
We've never dined in, but we've done takeout multiple times. This place does truly traditional Human food, which is to say that if it has a spicy pepper 🌶️ by it, be prepared for the heat! For a base starch, we love their chow mein and fried rice. Their veggie spring rolls are a great appetizer. For this time, we tried the Basil eggplant (loved it), Mongolian chicken, and Hunan bean curd. Both chicken and tofu were quite spicy, but the flavors and textures were all great. They were so friendly when I picked up the food and we will probably eat in next time to try that out.
Sun-Ly Chinese Restaurant
I love sweet and sour pork gotta try it get the lunch special ends at 2:45pm but I highly recommend it this food is one of the best I've had
This place has delicious food, and they got it ready relatively fast. They didn't give us any chopsticks though, so that was a bummer. The prices are average for Chinese food (expensive), but the leftovers fed 4 of us a second time, so it was worth it. All in all, a great place to grab some quick and tasty Chinese food.
Zongzi House
By the time I got here, a little after 2pm, they were sold out of the Zongzi I wanted. The owner had 2 vegetarian ones left and he offered them to me. It had tofu, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and a chestnut inside of rice that was steamed. It tasted really good and made me full and I only ate one.
Great Chinese home food with delicious meat and vegetarian options! The vegetarian (tofu, mushroom, and peanuts) and red date zongzi are amazing. Zongzi is served fresh, and homemade frozen dumplings are also available. They seem to run out of zongzi types sometimes so maybe call beforehand if you want something in particular.
King Eggroll
Finally my cheat day spot. The EGGROLLS are soooo fresh, hot and perfect crunching bite. The have variety of egg rolls from veggie, chicken and pork. There combination rice and beef broccoli was so yummy. This place is x50 better than panda express. Must come and visit this place!!! HIVHLY RECOMMEND TO LOCAL AND TOURIST.
Lots of mix reviews. Here's my take, food is of great quality no doubt. Flavorful. I had the lo mein, the fried ribs and lemon grass chicken. Very good. Service, was friendly. Atmosphere is okay. We went for take out.
Mr. Chau's Restaurants
This is hands down the best chinese fast food place in San Jose. I have gone to this restaurant for YEARRRRSSS and has never disappointed and the staff is always nice especially this one sweet Mexican lady she's the best. I always get honey chicken and daichin chicken. Once you try this food you'll never go back to Panda Express. On my momma !
My son had a taste for Chinese food so we opted for Mr.Chaus. The food at first glance looks very appetizing. I got the 2 entree 1 side combo. We ordered orange chicken, 5 flavor chicken & chow mein. I also ordered egg rolls(2 per order). Total was about $19. Which is not bad considering the price of everything nowadays. But unfortunately the flavor was NOT there! EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING was bland. Absolutely no flavor of any kind. The orange chicken didn't taste like orange chicken and the 5 flavor chicken didn't even have 1 flavor at that. I had to drench the chow mein in soy sauce to try to make it better but it just wasn't there. The food taste fresh but the flavor was just not there. The egg rolls taste fresh as well but lacked flavor as well.
Dynasty Chinese Cuisine
A very unique experience where different servers come with a cart and start offering you dumplings / noodles etc. unlike how we always place order with server by looking at menu lol. Very fast and efficient service though. Must try: Har gow and fried shrimp ball ( eat with their hot chilli sauce ) My advice would be to take 1 dish at a time, because they turn cold very quickly.
Dynasty Chinese Restaurant offers a decent dining experience with its dim sum and duck dishes during afternoon lunch. The ambiance was pleasant, with comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere suitable for casual dining. The dim sum selection was varied, although some dishes lacked the expected freshness and seemed reheated. The flavors were satisfactory overall, but not exceptional. The duck dish was well-prepared, with crispy skin and tender meat, but it did not stand out compared to other similar dishes I've tried elsewhere. The portion size was adequate for sharing, making it a good choice for groups. However, I found the pricing slightly on the higher side considering the portion sizes and quality of some dishes. Service was friendly but could be more attentive during peak hours. It took a bit longer than expected to receive our food, which impacted the overall experience. While Dynasty Chinese Restaurant offers a solid selection of Chinese cuisine staples, there is room for improvement in terms of consistency and service efficiency to elevate the dining experience.
Mandarin Gourmet Restaurant 滿吉樓
One of the best Chinese spots in the Bay! Always a go to when in the mood for Chinese & on the southside. I’ve never had anything here I didn’t like! Service is always so nice! Love coming here!! The portions are huge & served family style.
Lunch specials are becoming harder and harder to find so when you find a place that not only has a lunch special but has it available 7 days a week (excluding holidays), it is worth a highlight! Mandarin Gourmet delivers with a 4 course lunch special that has a variety of entrée options. Entrées are served family style so the table can easily share dishes. The food comes quickly and the seating is comfortable (choice of booths or tables). The first course are some fried dough with a sweet red dipping sauce. Chinese chicken salad with a peanut dressing is usually served at the same time, followed by a hot and sour soup. Finally the entrée is served with a choice of steamed or fried rice. A fortune cookie rounds off the meal. On this visit, we had the Garlic Eggplant, Tangerine Beef and Honey Walnut Prawns. All were great!
Dough Zone Dumpling House South San Jose
Nice surprise that this is full service sit down restaurant. The food is fresh and tasty. I had the lunch special C and my wife had B. Each came with two items and a drink. Wait staff is attentive and eager to serve. The milk tea is just the right amount of sweetness and refreshing. The soup dumplings are new for me. They have a bit of soup inside. Loved them.
Yummy food, we went there for dinner around 7:30 .Got the table in 5 mins. Food was amazing and service was quick. We ordered hot and sour glass noodles, 2 dan dan noodles, chicken dumplings with chili oil, and kale salad.
Mandarin House
Because it is Chinese New Year, we want to eat Chinese food to celebrate the New Year. Found this 4.5 starts on Google view, so came to try it out since it's very close to us. This should be American-style Chinese food, which is sweet, even the soup is slightly sweet. Maybe because it’s run by family, there were a lot of to-go orders. Even though there were only two tables, we still had to wait for 30-40 minutes before our food was served. Three dish + one bowl of rice $57
This place is absolutely fantastic with delicious authentic chinese food and best service! I felt home and eat with a peace of mind just like my mom cook for me years ago! We ordered a beef chow fun and hunan lamb with spicy sauce. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Chinese comfort food. Even if you’re new to Chinese food, you will be surprised with the quality and variety of options available! Give this place a try!
Uncle Quan's Kitchen
Nice selection of duck and BBQ pork to share with parents. There is also porridge and dim sum for a comfort food fix. No dining inside, all to-go.
9/2/2023, not crowded. Roast duck moist and flavorful. Does not have baked char sui bao.
