Tea Garden Chinese Restaurant
Hidden gem in South San Jose. American Chinese food? Great choice. Traditional Chinese? Great choice too!
I went out of my way to try to come here for the first time today and I could see several people inside the restaurant preparing food. As I approached, I could see a handwritten sign that said 'Closed' and what looked like Wednesday 1/28 (I looked at my phone to confirm that it was indeed Tuesday 1/27). I opened the door, and a lady SCREAMED at me "CLOSED! CLOSED!" while shooing me away. Ok. Cool. I won't be coming here today, or ever. Thanks.
China Chen
Tried out this place for the first time out of curiosity. Got the Hu Tieu Bo Vien and it was pretty good. Service was very quick and the waiters were pretty nice, although they look very busy. Overall pretty good, might come again next time
It’s nice and they served very well (quick) Just had so many drinks.
Ocean Delight
Best food ever. I have been having dinner at least once a month for 10 years and never disappointed...
The food was okay, hot and fresh. The prices were very good. Unfortunately, a step below Golden Palace (Cupertino) and Gourmet House (Fremont) in food quality.
Asiana Restaurant Chinese-Vietnamese Cuisine
Came in on a Sunday night and it was pretty empty. The food was decent; the walnut prawns and the fried rice were good, while the stir fried veggies were on the garlicky side (wasn't mentioned on the menu and the kids didn't like it). The chicken was dry (overcooked?) so that was the only dish that was no good. Price wise for the 4 dishes it was almost $90 pretip. The verdict is I think there are better options in the area.
I recently visited Asiana Restaurant, and honestly, it was a bit of a letdown. Maybe it was just the night I went, since there was a birthday party happening, but it was ridiculously loud with karaoke blasting the entire time—made it almost impossible to have a conversation. On top of that, the cleanliness was definitely lacking. The plates, bowls, glasses, and even the rice containers were sticky, and it was clear they weren’t washed properly. The tables weren't wiped down either, which made the whole experience feel pretty off-putting. As for the food, it was pretty disappointing. Everything was way too salty, and the timing was just all wrong. We had to wait around 30 minutes for the next wave of dishes to come out, and by the time they arrived, we were already full. The chairs were uncomfortable, and to top it all off, the bathroom was in awful condition. Overall, it didn’t live up to expectations, and I wouldn’t rush back.
Golden House Restaurant
My favorite Chinese restaurant, period. My wife and I discovered it about two years ago, and even though we live ~60 miles away, we drive at least once a month to enjoy the delicious and affordable food we get here. Whether we go there directly or drive close by, we really enjoy their food. We love it! And their staff is amazing! Always a smile on their faces, always kind, and always attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy really good food at any time of day.
DATE: 9/22/24. I got FOOD POISONING here. We let the place know and at least expected a refund back after getting guests (7) people sick. This was the only food we ate that evening/night and began to feel sick after. Owners response was from their lawyer and stated that we would need to prove our food poisoning. How are we supposed to prove it? If they are willing to pay our medical bill we would definitely go. They are more than welcome to come in my home and view how much VOMIT and DIARRHEA we have ALL had. This is unacceptable. Horrible service.
Taste China & Hawaiian BBQ
Ever since the new owner took over six months ago, this place has become much cleaner and more spacious. The portions are very generous, and the food tastes amazing! They've kept the classic Hawaiian BBQ while adding American Chinese dishes and truly authentic Chinese cuisine. I've been here three times this week, and I'm absolutely in love. Nice and friendly service! Highly recommend everyone to try it out!
I recently visited China Taste & Hawaiian BBQ, which has new owners since May 2024. I didn't know about the change when I called in my order. The House Chow Mein was awesome! I didn't add it to my order until I arrived to pick up my Hawaiian food, but I'm glad I did. The noodles were spot on, with a great mix of veggies ,meat & shrimp. Perfectly seasoned and definitely something I'd get again. The chicken was grilled nicely but lacked flavor and it was chopped up instead 1 entire thigh and the short ribs, while tender, didn't have that savory-sweet taste I like. I wouldn't order these again. The staff was friendly, but the person who helped me didn't understand English well, which made ordering a bit tricky. Overall, I'd stick to the Chinese food here. The house chow mein was delicious, but I wouldn't recommend the BBQ chicken, short ribs, or any other Hawaiian dishes. Plus, I didn't see any Hawaiian dishes on the menu, which was confusing when I was there to pickup my order.
China Delight
China Delight is a good place if you are looking for classic Chinese food. The portions are generous and generally the food is tasty. I wasn't a huge fan of the mustard greens because they weren't cut so they were in large, tough pieces that were difficult to chew. Overall, China Delight is a good place to go with a clean and cozy atmosphere. The food here is consistent so you always know what to expect!
I was curious to try this place after driving past it so many times and home eats in Cupertino let me down the last time I ate there. We had the eggplant and combo noodle special and a bowl of rice. The food was pretty tasty and fresh but I felt like it was expensive for Chinese food. 25$ for noodles and about $17 for eggplant, 3$ for rice. Service and ambience was nicer than your typical Chinese restaurant but was it worth another visit? We’ll see
New Jade China
Ever go to a place and you ordered a dish that looks/sounds good and you order it and it was so delicious that when you go back again it will be the only thing you order. My wife brought me home Honey Walnut Shrimp. I received it cold but the size of the shrimp made me go wow! It was delicious and I couldn't finish it. The following week I went back and told the counter guy my last week experience, I own a restaurant and I know they love positive feedback. Guess what I did? I ordered it again and ate it in the parking lot in my car. It was very hot and much better than I expected. I'm now afraid to try anything else. I looked for shrimp & lobster sauce but did not have. That WAS my go to dish!
I really like this place! Lots of value for your money! Very nicely portioned plates, fresh and delicious food, consistently exceeds expectations! I highly recommend the Beef Chow Fun!
New Hwong Kok
My first time to enter this to go/pick up dim sum place. The atmosphere is not warm or welcoming so you can easily see that decor/ atmosphere is not deemed important. Since it is pickup only, I assume this is why no importance is given to looks as customers will not be eating in. I bought: shrimp fry ball( 2 for $4.50), 3 fried sesame balls($4.25), fried shrimp tofu(3 for $4.50), and a sticky rice lotus leaf($4.50). I immediately ate the 2 shrimp fry balls. It was lukewarm but delicious. I couldn't help myself and ate a fried shrimp tofu: delicious. I will eat the sesame balls, sticky rice and 2 shrimp tofu this evening. You might be daunted by the unattractive look and decor of this business but their strength lies in the taste of their food. I'm not a gourmand in dim sum. I'm more of a plebeian taste and this dim sum tastes good. The presentation and lighting in the display counters could be improved so the customer can clearly see what is available and how it looks. You should come at least once so you can taste for yourself whether the dim sum suits your palate.
First time visiting this place. Simple set up and everything works efficiently for the takeaways. Love the efficiency and convenience
New Sam Kee Restaurant
One of the few restaurant that is safe to eat regularly. Other places has too much spice n chemical gives me all sort of problems gum bleed, nose bleed, backache, thirsty n sore throat.. Staff cares about how customer feels, provide shade when it's sunny, close door when you are cold... The waitress gives very good recommendations. I like their fried foods: rice, ribs, crabs, calamari.. Update: aug 2024 surf clam glass noddle serves on 2 shells quality drop from 5 down to 2, chewy, dry taste metallic clam, no longer fresh just frozen. Lobster is still good but yesterday nooddle werent as good as before. Owner is annoying telling me to move to smaller table to reserve table for people who never come. Before I even heard arguments in the kitchen so apparently someone is not so pleasant.
Ordered the Lobster garlic noodles, roasted chicken and noodles soup, eggrolls. Very delicious!!! Chicken was roasted just the way I like it! And my hubby enjoyed the Lobster noodles. And my soup had no MSG, I knew this because after eating it, I did not have a headache lol Great food and good customer service. 👌
East Lake Chinese Restaurant and Dim Sum (東湖海鮮酒家)
One of the best Chinese restaurants in this area of San Jose. On the pricey side for Chinese food though, which as you know is generally cheap. We went on a week day so they didn’t have the lunch dim sum carts rolling. I think they do on weekends. But you can order dim sum through the waiter. The wet chow fun is yummy. Soft noodles, a decent amount of beef, and tasty gravy. Jin mein is crispy chow mein, and if you’ve never had it, I recommend to try of you like texture in your food. I mentioned dim sum so at least try the ha how (shrimp dumpling) and shu mai (pork dumpling). They’re big and plump. Jook (aka congee) is very good and you MUST get the Chinese donut (aka fried bread) to pair with it! I do NOT recommend the soup dumplings (aka XLB). They are terrible.
I was on the way to a different place and found dimsum! The rice rolls stood out the most and the onion pancake! Loved the shrimp and eggplant, tripe and the chicken feet!
Home Eat汉家宴 - Milpitas
I believe this is the new location for Home Eat in the Great Mall’s food court! Just like their other locations, you can order your box lunch or dinner, which you can also order from the menu for your order to be cooked on the spot for you! The service is quick and easy, you can pay with cash or credit card. Just follow the instructions on the kiosk. We ordered three dish but forgot to order some white rice. So when I try to make my second order just for rice, the lady just said she would give me two orders for free! What a nice surprise and service! All three dishes are on the salty side of my liking, I will ask for less salt when I order the next time!
This store is like a Chinese authentic super version of panda. They have meal boxes but you can also order the Chinese way: shared plates. The price for shared plates are 30% lower than any Chinese restaurant out there, and the amount is astonishing. We spent $75 and get the food enough for 4 people to eat two meals. Highly recommend!
