East Town HotPot
Super cool hot pot place!! Excellent services and everything is tasty!! Lamb spine hot pot is a Must-try!!!
This is actually the second time I tried hot pot in LA. Last time was Haidilao. This place is certainly more interesting and with unique food. I used to love hot pot back in China, I would say I'm satisfied with the hot pot they're making here.
Yu Ji Stone Mill Chinese Crepes
$10 Egg crepe with hot dogs, sugar crisp and spice. Mild spice (small fire) of chili oil was too mild for me. I'd go for medium next time to taste more. Bike food stall! A friend mentioned it's a popular snack in China now, with it coming from North of Beijing. Transaction: We paid cash $10. There's other ways to pay too but we don't use wechat and the options given. Size: Crepe is pretty large. It can be shared with another person as a snack, or a meal for someone like me. If you're a big eater, it's a very hefty good snack. Quality: Half was a bit dry, the other half was more moist. Flavors was a bit fuller than expected...maybe we were drooling too hard while watching it being made. I love egg crepes anything (if not made with dairy), especially the Taiwanese breakfast egg crepes. So I'm less picky. I wouldn't expect this to be the best thing you've or have eaten. But it's pretty darn unique street vendor food. I have haven't seen a food vendor provide this crepe anywhere else in 626/SGV West. They can probably up their quality of the eggs we're fluffed more so that it's more moist? I'll probably bring and add my own mayo, ketchup or such next time. Again, I've never eaten this type of crepe style. Mung bean is normally a dry type of food when eaten dry.
You get a lot of bang for your buck here. My and my GF shared one and that was plenty. The fillings include hot dogs, mung bean, wonton chips and sesame seeds. Seems like a very traditional street dish in China. The flavors might be bland for some but I know some Asian people prefer that. I personally thought it was not bad but I wouldn't mind adding hot sauce or hoisin. For $10, it's a nice little hidden gem that feels like home for some Chinese natives. Liang Crispy Roll
Found this place off TikTok! It’s a small hole in the wall with delicious food! I ordered the spicy chicken and my bf ordered the duck crispy roll. We loved them both. The spicy chicken has so much flavor to it and paired perfectly with the crispy roll + to all the non spicy eaters, it wasn’t too spicy. It had the perfect amount of kick to it :)
I got two crispy rolls today...TWO!!! they do not skimp on the protine, the portions are great. I had the lamb and the duck. My body got the kimchi pork and the garlic shrimp. Personally I ate mine but had two botes of the other two and they were all delightful. The veggies and or greens are fresh. And it's well balanced flavor profiles of each were worth the 45 minutes drive I made from the beach just to eat here.
Mian
I came here on a chilly Saturday night (no pun intended) to get a fine bowl of beef noodle soup and some dumplings and that's exactly what I got. The menu is via a QR code and you can customize your soup to your liking. I think next time I'll get less chili oil just so it's a little less oily for me. I think I got medium spice level and it wasn't too bad. The beef noodle soup was very tasty, noodles were cooked well and the beef itself very tender and delicious. The pork dumplings were plump, juicy and the skin wasn't too thicc. Service was reasonably fast and friendly. The restaurant was clean and I would come back again. I'd give this spot a closer 4.3 to 4.4 rather than Google making stick to whole numbers. Until the next food adventure.
Im going to start my review with: truly impeccable. My absolute favourite is the glutinous rise cakes, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Biting into it feels like an asmr video dream as if it is an unreal experience, the chewy part is like chewing soft candy but its softer, warmer, and 79x better. Love it so much. Service is also fantastical, I’ve been to two locations and the kindness is still the same. I will definitely be coming again.
Nanjing Salted Duck
Really authentic Nanjing food! Highly recommend roasted duck(烤鸭) and sweet lotus root with sticky rice (糖藕). You can choose to dine in or take out. They have a small number of tables available for dine-in.
The broth is overwhelmingly peppery, and you have to ask for salt and chicken essence, plus the duck liver doesn't taste fresh. I'm not sure if this is how an authentic duck blood vermicelli soup is supposed to be.
Tasty Garden
Excellent Hong Kong-style food here. Extensive menu with prompt and courteous service. As of Aug '23, they offer a yummy dessert for free! Prices are lower than similar restaurants in the area, and the portions are generous. The only drawback is the setting, which is at the back end of the shopping plaza. Not particularly picturesque, but all the other positives easily outweigh that. Great food, great price!
BEWARE! I found a screw in my fried rice and nearly chipped my tooth! Thank goodness I didnt swallow it. This is totally unacceptable.
Mongolian Home Made Pie 蒙古馅饼
This is an authentic traditional Mongolian restaurant and it's already my fourth time here. I have been very satisfied every time. The beef and lamb are tender and flavorful, and the taste is authentic. This five-grain steamed dumpling is filled with beef and has rich meat juices inside. It must be eaten while hot, and it is incredibly delicious. My boyfriend is from Inner Mongolia, and he also approves of the taste and quality here. They always offers free mutton soup and Mongolian specialty salty milk tea. I highly recommend anyone who loves beef and lamb to come and try it.
I’ve been here around 5 times and was introduced by my parents who loved and frequent this place since they discovered it. Portion sizes are huge and everything is seasoned a lot. They even have a bar where the lamb soup and warm milk tea serve yourself station. I usually either love or dislike their food. Their beef and cheese meat pie is not for me. Idk if it’s just the way the dish is suppose to taste but it takes sour like it had gone bad. When trying to inquire about this. The manager came and told us that is the way it’s suppose to be. It’s just how they make the cheese which was influencing the beef’s taste as well. It’s a spacious restaurant that is filled with benches often filled with huge parties. Very brightly lit and has so many paintings honoring the restaurants heritage. Will update more later but it’s a great place to eat. Just be wary of what you order.
Happy Family Restaurant - Rowland Heights
Thursday 3/13/25 Lunch at Happy Family Restaurant. Enjoying many vegetarian dishes. I can’t believe the vegetarian foods were so delicious and savory. The fake chicken and beef tasted so good; I don’t mind being fooled that it wasn’t real meats as long as it’s good tasting and the prices of the dishes doesn’t cost more than the real meats. There was a shortage of service staffs however the ones working works hard and quickly to serve customers. The restaurant has nice decors, clean, and spacious to accommodate groups. So good! Love their lunch special menu. Ordered 2 lunch specials (orange chicken & braised tofu) and e-fu noodles. So tasty and yummy. I can't wait to come back! I ended up with enough leftovers for meals for the next day. My comfort vegetarian food. Their special flower +gogi berry tea does cost $3.95. They do close between 2:30PM and 4:30PM.
Spicy Moment
Typical Chinese restaurant, similar to what may be found in Shanghai's old town gourmet districts. Mostly (but not exclusively!) spicy meals are served but the spicy level can be adjusted to taste. Generous quantities makes it very affordable. Plus, there are "order 4 get 1 free" types of offers which is perfect for family or friends dinners.
This Place is great. I would highly recommend if you are interested in exploring diverse Chinese cuisine. It has both popular Americanized dishes like Kung Pao chicken and general Tso but also a large selection of more traditional dishes. All which are perfectly prepared. I have been here several times myself but most recently a took a Chinese friend and she loved it. The peppercorn chicken is like an addiction. I can't wait for it to be served every time I order it. At first, I didn't know what the flavor description on the menu meant. Because, it said it has a numbing flavor. I thought it was a typo but you will be pleasantly surprised to find that it does have a nice mild numbing sensation after eating the Sichuan pepper oil that coats the zucchini and chicken. I truly think I'm addicted because I literally begin salivating when I see it knowing that I'll be getting that nice numbing effect. This time, we also ordered the pork spam hot pot and it was delicious. And it's a huge bowl filled with a wide assortment of goodies and on the bottom was perfectly cooked glass noodles. It was altogether a real masterpiece. These smaller places get so little attention but they blow away mainstream big name restaurants. I would like to keep it a secret but I really hope that it gets the recognition it deserves.
New Golden City
Great place for green onion pancakes, beef noodle soup, and dumplings; located in the Ranch 99 Plaza. There can be a wait, so check the waitlist and prepare accordingly.
Here for their famous Black Bean Noodle and house special chicken (marinated chicken with cucumber). Very nice combo for two people while the jajangmyeon is one of the best in town if you are craving for black bean noodles and the portion of the chick is very generous for the price. Not a fancy restaurant but the one you will keep coming back.
Dun Huang
This place is incredible—I’ve been telling everyone about it! I was working in the area, and my coworkers suggested we check it out on a Tuesday around 5:30 PM. It’s tucked away in a strip mall, and while it wasn’t too busy when we arrived, the ambience was cozy and inviting. We ordered a couple of noodle dishes and a few appetizers, and everything was brought out fresh as it was ready. The flavors were outstanding—bold, well-balanced, and unlike your typical Chinese takeout. What really sets this place apart is that they make their noodles fresh in-house—you can actually watch them being pulled through a window in the dining room. They also incorporate spices you don’t usually find in Chinese cuisine, like cumin, which gave the dishes a really unique and delicious twist. A couple other things to note are that you order food through your phone which makes things super easy and they also do not serve any alcohol. However they have a wide variety of teas and soft drinks. This spot is definitely one of my new favorites, and I’ll be coming back anytime I’m in the area. Highly recommend!
Used to love coming here all the time. $12 for a massive amount of noodles (especially the extra wide ones) was such an amazing price. They even had a "Buy 10 orders, get a free noodle" promo that I was able to get several times. Place has such a great atmosphere and there's a large window into the kitchen where you can watch the chef's make their handpulled noodles. Only issue was that their skewers were about $2.50 a piece, pricey as heck for how thin they were. Sadly, they recently raised their prices and cancelled the promo right before I moved away. I'll truly miss this place!
All That 'N Dim Sum - 蒸品
We recently visited this dim sum place for the first time and decided to try a few dishes. It was interesting to see so many people coming in for takeout. Food is very tasty! we were actually quite pleased with how delicious it was.
Great dim sum at a great price Came here hungry as hell on a Saturday morning and ordered like a starving person and I was pleasantly surprised I didn't have to pay that much to get everyone full. Love the sticky rice here and the soup dumplings in particular. Will be back again soon
