My wife and I went to this Chinese restaurant Friday night. The place had a nice vibe, perfect for a quiet night out. We started with Crab Rangoon, which was crispy and creamy, and came with sweet and sour sauce šŸ˜‹ For our main courses, I had Hunan Chicken with steamed rice. It was spicy and flavorful, but you gotta add peanuts to really make it pop! šŸŒ¶ļø My wife had the Shrimp Fried Rice, which was seasoned well and had big, juicy shrimp. šŸ¤ The Hot-and-Sour Soup was a good mix of spicy and sour šŸ² Overall, China Cottage was a good spot for food and atmosphere. Oh, and you gotta check out the fish tank while you're there! 🐠

I really wish you could break ratings down farther into quarters. I would most likely rate this establishment a 4.5. So there are several China Cottage restaurants in the Dayton metro area: Centerville, Kettering, Trotwood, and rumor has it they may be opening on in Huber Heights. This review features the Trotwood location. As I get older, and my palette becomes more discriminating the China Cottage locations are still at the top of my list, and preferred "go to" when I'm in the mood for Asian cuisine. This visit was for supper on a Saturday evening. My husband always orders the same item, no matter which Asian restaurant: Moo Goo Gai Pan. I order the fried eggplant and we shared a Pao Pao Platter. I will focus on the items I indulged in. I first had the fried eggplant at the Kettering location and totally enjoyed it. So since I like the dish at one of their locations, I decided I should try it at another to see if the dish was consistent at differing locations. I was not disappointed. The fried eggplant was mixed with water chestnuts, thinly sliced garlic, green onions, thinly sliced carrots in a brown sauce. I am not a person who can handle spicy foods and the first time I tried the dish it was at the "2 pepper" heat level which was too much for me. This time I requested it non-spicy. Removing the heat from the dish did not take away any of the flavor. As with the majority of meals you also have your choice of rice to complement it. Portion sizes were more than ample. I took half of home to enjoy at a later time. Of course, part of that could be due to partaking in the Pao Pao platter. The appetizer could easily be shared with 3, maybe 4 people. The Pao Pao is fun due to how it is presented. Includes a mini heat source for further grilling the meat scures. The crab ragoon is one of my favorites as they add finely chopped onion and imitation crab meat making for a flavorful filling. The seaweed chicken rolls were wonton wrapped chicken with a small band of seaweed around the middle of the roll on the outside. This was good dipped in sweet-n'-sour sauce. The shrimp rolls were okay, but not my favorite. Maybe that was by they time I tried one they had started to cool off. I might have to try them again for a second take. The meat kabobs were tender, and I loved that I could reheat them on the mini grill to my taste. My husband feels China Cottage has the best Moo Goo Gai Pan of any Asian restaurant he was eaten at. They do not have a soda fountain, but offer Coke products in 20 oz. bottles. They also have hot and iced tea and a range of alcoholic beverages. Service was great. They were attentive without being over intrusive. The decor is dark and starting to look a little worn. Bringing my rating score down from a 5. The tropical fish tank is clean and looks well cared for adding a nice calming touch to the atmosphere. I still feel the China Cottages in the area are consistent in their service and cuisine. I will definitely continue to revisit these locations when craving an Asian meet.

I got hooked, I love the food over there, it is so tasty, delicious, and affordable, sometime I find myself driving 15 miles to buy food over there, while I have other places much closer to me. It is a family biz and they are friendly.

The best Chinese food in Dayton. Healthy portions. The orders are accurate. I hate that the dinning room hasn't been open since Covid. The parking lot need repair.

North Village Chinese Restaurant - 1 Stars After living in Dayton my entire life, I finally decided to give North Village Chinese Restaurant a try, especially after noticing a few customers coming in for takeout. Unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. I had high hopes based on the foot traffic, but the food did not live up to my expectations. To start with, the hot and sour soup was a letdown. It had a globby texture and lacked any real flavor, which was surprising. I had never tried it before, so maybe this is how it is typically served, but I found it to be unappetizing and not even hot. On a brighter note, the wonton soup was quite good—definitely the highlight of my partners meal. The crab rangoon was average; it was okay but nothing that stood out. The fried rice was decent, but it really needed more seasoning or flavor to elevate it. I found the noodles to be sticky and bland, which was disappointing. The Mala G. Beans Chicken was particularly unappetizing and lacked any definitive taste, while the Moo Goo Gai Pan also fell flat in terms of flavor. Overall, I was hoping for a better experience at North Village. While I did enjoy the wonton soup, the rest of the meal simply did not impress. I may return to give it another shot, but my first visit left much to be desired.

When you ask for General Tso’s Chicken and you get a container with an extreme amount of a running sauce resulting in something more like SOUP… the outcome is sorely disappointed. What an unpleasant experience. Not to mention costly. 14.95 for lunch!!! You could have kept the wonton soup. After the ā€œunrequested, unsolicited soupā€ I did not want to add additional insult to energy. This overall experience was ā€œAWFUL!!!ā€ The only part of the encounter that could be loved upon favorably was the general disposition of the host/server. Such a waste of time and money.

Got carryout. The best moo shu pork in the area. Many don’t even offer it or they use Mexican tortillas instead of the proper wraps. Excellent price and quantity. 6 wraps. Could use an extra container of plum sauce. Shrimp rolls were also good. Crab Rangoon a little tough instead of crunchy.

Excellent service. Nice dining environment. Cute little restaurant. Nice decor. Food is delivered to the table quick. You get a little fried noodle starter while you are ordering. I got the garlic chicken with fried rice. Wonton soup. Added an egg roll. Very good. Fair prices. Try this place out. Recently got take out. Still good food. Pork fried rice is good. Nice veggies. Soup is deep in flavor.

Used to go here all the time and it depends on who is cooking or how busty they are. Probably not going back as the quality really decreased and they raised prices. for example the breaded chicken is mostly bread and fat, very little chicken. Its really a shame, we used to love this place, but not anymore!

Why 4.6 stars why you can’t just look at the stars apparently I figured 4.6. You can’t go wrong. Well, I did go wrong. Horrible horrible horrible terrible food. I’ve been ripped off again. I never I can never go to any other Chinese restaurant, but the one I already go to, which is Peking garden. Why 4.6 stars though I’m so like what more like it should be like 3.9. Maybe it’s just terrible Food. I wish I could just get a refund. I really do. You know things are expensive out there. I like to treat myself every great while so it really is disappointing when this happens I want a refund, but I know it won’t happen. I’d like for them to take the food back really because I don’t like wasting it and I know I’m just gonna throw it all away All of it!

Noodles were great! Someone commented previously that the eggrolls were the best they ever had, but they just tasted like frozen ones to me… but that’s what I get for ordering an American Chinese appetizer. The beef flank noodle soup was delicious. Flavorful broth, tender beef, crunchy toppings… it was everything I wanted on another cold day in Ohio. Order something you don’t recognize and trust the process.. and you’ll be happy here.

From the time we discover this place, we keep on coming back. Place is neat and clean, and most of all their noodles are the beat in Dayton even compare to those expensive restaurants. Soup is flavorful and their noodles can’t compare to others! It don’t sag and taste is great! All flavors are exceptional We tried Mala noodle beef steak and regular beef, fish, sausages and fish balls everything were worth the price! They are not expensive for the huge servings

Had the chicken in black bean sauce and the General Tso’s chicken. The Chicken in Black Bean sauce was FANTASTIC! The General Tso was ok but we like the black bean sauce much better. The Won Ton soup is very good and has a rich flavorful broth and very good wontons. The pasta is delicate and the filling is tasty. Will definitely be back for the Chicken and Black bean sauce and the won ton soup!

Got take out. Ordered happy family, fried rice and crab Rangoons. Happy family was supposed to have beef, chicken, shrimp, crab and scallops. It was full of beef and chicken, with 3 scallops. And the whole dish was bland A.F. It tasted like it was made with dish water. The Peas in the fried rice were like rocks, and there was NO CRAB whatsoever in the crab Rangoons. Piss poor food-- no flavor at all.

Very disappointed. The chicken in my chicken and vegetables was obviously boiled. No flavor whatsoever. 1 pack of soy sauce for a large order. Fried wonton overcooked.

This out of the way restaurant has the freshest, lightest (not greasy) food! Their staff is very nice and we highly recommend the chicken egg foo young and lemon chicken with white rice.

I grew up in this area and recently moved back nearby, so getting to walk just 6 minutes to Mama Wok for dinner was a nostalgic treat—I hadn’t been back in over 10 years. The restaurant has been renovated and now feels much more open and modern. They’ve really focused their menu around Chinese cuisine, offering a great variety of dishes we typically love, like roasted duck, steamed dumplings, Fei Teng fish fillet, three cups chicken, and hot chili sauce beef. We started with the black fungus mushroom garlic cucumber appetizer, which was cool, refreshing, and full of flavor. Then we shared the Szechuan-style dry hot pot, loaded with shrimp, fish balls, sliced meat, and lotus root. It was bold, spicy, and packed with texture. We also tried the eggplant dish, which was absolutely delicious—tender and richly sauced. The food felt authentic and satisfying, and they also have familiar classics like spring rolls and Kung Pao chicken for those who may not want something super spicy or traditional. Service was friendly and attentive, and there’s plenty of free parking out front. One thing I did wish for: a drink menu. I would’ve loved a cold beer or a glass of Chardonnay while waiting for my friend. Mains start around $18.95, so it’s on the pricier side for Chinese food—we spent about $35 per person without drinks. That said, the food and convenience make it worthwhile. I’d definitely come back to explore more of the menu, especially while I’m still walking distance. We’re moving closer to Potomac in the next couple months, so I’ll be taking full advantage of being able to pop in for a Thursday night dinner with friends while I still can.

My family and I have been dining at this restaurant for at least 25 Years. With the ever-changing selection in the area of Chinese restaurants, it’s nice to know that there is one that has stood the test of time. They are very accommodating to order requests, and the food is good. Front staff is friendly and helpful. I only give it four stars as far as atmosphere because it looks nice but we really never eat inside the restaurant, it’s just too difficult with kids. Definitely would recommend for a quick stop or a good family dinner.

This is the best Chinese seafood restaurant you will find in Midwest. Food and dish selection is outstanding! They specialize in seafood and have an excellent selection of chicken, beef, pork and vegetarian plates too. I've traveled the world to find good food and I have to say is place is a gem. Recommend calling for reservations on weekends and they also have a small party room. Takeout is also an option. They have fresh seafood...as in it's still live so it doesn't get any better than that. Yes they do run out of product at times because it's that good. Tables and chairs are really comfortable and the bathroom is clean. Parking is also convenient. Food is served on real plates. They do offer beer and wine here too. Lighting is bright so you can really see your food. Prices are affordable and the portions are large.

Fu Mon Lau sesame chicken, hunan shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, and sesame chicken. I have eaten Chinese food from the west coast to the east coast and even Alaska. When someone says hunan shrimp there is a particular flavor that I am looking for. This restaurant had a beautiful presentation. The staff was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was authentic. The food was really good. The sweet and sour chicken had the best texture...fluffy, and was not oily. It needed more sauce so we asked for a side. The rest of the food was good, but it didn't taste like the name suggested. The hunan shrimp had no spice and the flavor wasn't the same. The orange chicken did not have any spice either. It's usually served with red pepper flakes. The sesame chicken tasted like a piece of chicken with a sweet sauce and they threw sesame seeds on it. It didn't have that distinct taste or orange or sesame chicken. I didn't taste any orange in the orange chicken. It was all really good, but I thought it was going to taste like something else.

The Best Sour Cabbage Fish in Maryland | B2J Sour Cabbage Fish Highly Recommended Local Food Hello, everyone! I want to introduce you to the best sour cabbage fish restaurant in the universe—B2J Sour Cabbage Fish! This is their fifth location, with the other four in New York, New Jersey, Texas, and Canada. Ever since I discovered this place, I find myself going back every few days, whether I’m in a good mood or a bad one—I just crave this fish! Their sour cabbage fish is made with snakehead fish fillets, which are super tender and boneless! I noticed on the menu that you can upgrade to bass for an extra charge, but honestly, the snakehead fillets are already amazing. They offer set meals: • Two-person set: 1 lb of fish + 2 side dishes + 2 small appetizers + 2 bowls of rice • Three-person set: 1.5 lbs of fish + 3 side dishes + 3 small appetizers + 3 bowls of rice • Four-person set: 2 lbs of fish + 4 side dishes + 4 small appetizers + 4 bowls of rice The sour cabbage fish is so delicious that we usually order an extra portion of fish for $14—otherwise, it feels like we have to fight over every bite! You can choose from different flavors: • Classic Sour Cabbage Fish (Regular or Spicy) • Tomato Fish • Mala (Spicy & Numbing) Fish My absolute favorite is still the classic sour cabbage fish! We also tried the tomato fish, which has a sweet and flavorful broth—really good! Now, let’s talk about the appetizers: • Fern Root Noodles: My top pick! This was my childhood favorite. My brother and I used to call it ā€œsewer waterā€ because it’s black. I haven’t had it in ages, but they serve it here as a cold dish, seasoned to be fragrant, spicy, and slightly sweet and sour—so good! • Fried Milk: A must-try! It’s kind of like fried rice cakes, but inside, it’s sweet, milky, and chewy. • Cold Preserved Egg (Century Egg): A classic Sichuan-style dish—really tasty! • Chilled Chicken Gizzards: Another childhood favorite! The portion is generous, and the flavor is on point. • Crispy Pork Bites: Crunchy and perfect when dipped in chili powder! Next time, I want to try the Golden Mini Buns, Osmanthus Lotus Root, and Brown Sugar Sticky Rice Cake—all nostalgic flavors from my childhood! But I always end up ordering my beloved fern root noodles, so I haven’t had the chance to try more appetizers yet. Drinks: Sometimes they have freshly squeezed corn juice—one sip, and it’s like being back in China! It’s super fresh and costs $15 per jug. Their sour plum soup and watermelon juice are also excellent. Bonus: If you post about your meal on social media, you get a free milk mochi! It’s similar to the fried milk but without the crispy coating—equally delicious. This place is so worth it—even though it’s an hour’s drive from where I live, I happily make the trip just for this fish. After devouring a whole pot, who wouldn’t feel a little dizzy with happiness? Plus, I even saw a double rainbow after my meal that day—maybe it’s a sign of good luck!

This place has the most authentic Shanghai food in DMV. Well if you argue it should be from your mom's kitchen then you win. I am just comparing this with Shanghai Taste and Bob66. (Shanghai lounge and Nanxiang has nothing to do with Shanghai food from my humble opinion.) Back to the business. If you are fine with any dishes being sweet then I suggest give everything a try. Something you may find weird, but it is just how things are done in Shanghai. If you want something salty you can get Fuzhu 腐竹 or Moyu魔芋ļ¼Œ both are nice cold dishes. But I still suggest Kaofu 烤麸, Lajiang 辣酱 and Ribså°ęŽ’ even you don't have sweet teeth. Meatball 狮子夓 are nice to try as well, and Shenjianē”Ÿē…Ž is a must try - I served Shenjian to my parents who still live in Shanghai when they came and they gave a positive feedback.

Great place for Shanghai food.
