China House
Honestly, I set the bar pretty low for these kind of places, but China House definitely cleared it and we’ll be going again, most likely for takeout. We’ve lived in McMinnville since 2020 and finally tried this place on a recent Sunday afternoon. The decor, outside and inside, definitely needs some work. But that’s pretty typical for ‘family style’ Chinese restaurants in the USA (is it just me or do all these places look like they opened in 1985 and haven’t changed a thing since?). We were seated quickly and offered the usual hot tea. We started with crab puffs and barbecue pork, both above average and freshly made. Our entrées were orange chicken and a spicy beef vegetable dish. Again, both were above average, fresh and tasty. Service was quick and efficient and friendly. After listening to the nonstop racket coming from the bar area, we decided to go there for an after dinner drink. There was a very casual pool tournament happening, and it was fun to watch. The people, both Staff and customers, were very friendly. The beer was a little flat the prices were good, so I’m not complaining… Nice selection of gambling machines, if that’s your thing. Overall, I set the bar pretty low for these types of places, but this is one of the better ones in McMinnville, for sure. Will be going again.
DJ Jenn Jarred really knows how to move throw a good party and a karaoke night. Quite possibly the best karaoke in the area. Super fun and she is super knowledgeable. Loved it. Loved the new remodel and the additional added pool table. Three total now. Great drinks. Great food. Great bartender Tammy and other staff. They have all the oregon lottery games. Full bar. Karaoke that starts after 9pm. I recommend the pot stickers.
Golden Crown Restaurant
The best war wonton soup! Enough to share and have leftovers. When you order take out, they package the broth so the veggies and wontons for the best meal at home! One of the few restaurants in town that offer Chow Fun! And it is wonderful. I had heard they recently changed hands, the store had kind of gotten run down. Pandemic didn’t do downtown Salem any favors. The new owners have cleaned the restaurant up and it’s much better! The chefs are the same. After rediscovering them a few months ago, it has returned to one favorite downtown restaurants. Parking in back makes it easy to get my elderly mom into the restaurant.
This place was something to remember. The booths were extra sticky. The table top stuck to my forearms… all of the condiments, sitting on top of it, were also extra sticky. We ordered crap puffs and a combination D dinner. They brought us egg drop soup and it was very good. My dining partner did ask if he could have hot and sour soup and was told no because that was extra. This was the first time we have visited an Asian restaurant and not been able to have either soup with a combination meal. The crab puffs were big, but they did not have any of that fake crab in them. It was all cream cheese, and zero seasoning. The appetizer plate was fried shrimp and barbecue pork. The fried shrimp was fine but the barbecue pork was dry and tasteless. It was really bad. Next came the Mandarin chicken, which was a delight. It was actually really good, but it was not mandarin at all. It was more of the sweet-and-sour sauce that came with the crab puffs just poured on top. It was a big portion and our favorite thing that was brought to the table. The fried rice was also pretty good. It had big chunks of what looked to be frozen peas and carrots in it and it well seasoned. They brought us something called Cantonese steak and it was 100% not steak I could not physically chew through it, so I cannot tell you how it tasted because it was too tough to eat. There was a vegetable dish that was good. It had normal vegetables, but they were also too big to eat in one bite, and we weren’t given knives to cut these vegetables to eat them. It was also covered in more of that nasty barbecue pork. The service was great. Everybody was really nice. The bathroom was mostly clean, but if you do go and visit, please look up to the ceiling because by the look of their vent, it has not been cleaned in half a century. It was gross. I probably will not return to this restaurant, because there are so many other places that make better food in my opinion. If you’re looking for quantity over quality, however this place gives you a ton of food. There’s not a lot of parking, but there’s a sees candy store next-door if you come out looking for something sweet.
Marco Polo Global Restaurant
We had not been in several years, so my smoking hot girlfriend and I dropped in to give dinner a try. Everything we ordered was very good. We got everything we could at spicy hot levels. And it wasn’t too super spicy. The staff were nice and attentive. They have lots of menu options for vegetarians and vegans. Had a good time. Would come back again.
Great food, large portions, friendly staff. I had the spinach ravioli and it was SO good! My future son-in-law had a mountain of chicken fried rice. Would definitely recommend this place!
Hong Kong House and Lounge
My husband and I were looking for a new Chinese restaurant. We were not disappointed. The food was wonderful. We let our waitress know it was our first time here and she made several wonderful suggestions. Starting with the egg flower and hot and sour soups, very flavorful. The Dimsum was wonderful and full of flavor. We ordered BBq Pork egg foo young and the flavors popped. We also ordered the Mandarin chicken which was both spicy and sweet but not too spicy, just perfect. My husband also ordered a combination plate with Sweet and sour pork, shrimp, and chicken lomein and fried rice. Our over all experience was great and we will be back. They are a hidden gem here in Salem.
This restaurant is a standout. The booths are very comfortable. It has a nice decor it looks very Chinese. The little small egg rolls are nice and crispy and hot on the inside. When the food comes out it's very hot and it stays hot for a long time and it's delicious. They have the best prices for Chinese food of any place in Salem and food wise they are right up there with the best
Chopstick Brothers
First off, I realize this could be sacrilege or heresy to some, but I've never been a big fan of Chinese food. I find myself looking at the menu and wondering wtf 99% of the food is. If I don't know what it is, Do I really want to take that risk? Thereafter I once again find myself contemplating life as I'm stuck on a toilet for hours wondering how I went so wrong in life to end up at that exact moment. Oh right...Chinese food. Everyone I know generally has the same issue. Can't imagine a household of 10 people sharing one Toilet after eating Chinese food....That's a horrifying thought. Chopstick Brothers however, Totally different story. Other Chinese restuarants, Please take note. General Tsos chicken: OMG!!!! Fn mind BLOWN! So damn crispy, So juicy, literally explodes with flavor as you bite into it. It comes out piping hot with a side of perfectly cooked rice. And yes I have to notate the rice. Many believe "Oh it's rice, how can you screw that up." Don't mind those people, They are simpletons, with no idea of the complexity that goes into creating the PERFECT RICE!!!! I can tell that this fine establishment understands the meaning and depth of the secret techniques behind Perfect rice. Pho: Mmmmmmmm super delicious!!!! You take one sip, Next thing you know the whole bowls empty and your reaching across the table strangling your best friend asking WHO DRANK ALL MY SOUP!!!!!! Later after losing your best friend....You realize, It was you who drank all the delicious soup. but you were lost in bliss, enjoying the perfectly balanced spices and aroma, So how could you possibly have known? It's basically your best friends fault. He should have just bought you another bowl of Pho. That's what best friends are for, right? Service: We were seated immediately and the server was very polite and helpful. After ordering im pretty sure we got our food in world record time. It was literally less than 5 minutes. Most places if I got it at that speed, I'd be a little concerned, But my fears were alleviated after trying it. It was simply just them being hyper super supreme chefs with unheard of and unparalleled speeds, serving God tier dishes at a local restuarant near you!!!! Atmosphere: Clean, Very well put together place, with a great ambiance. I highly recommened this place.
Went to chopstick brothers after hearing good things and quickly realized I'd heard from folks who've never had good Chinese food. My stomach was moaning and groaning after eating this stuff. Ordered the Mongolian style shrimp, it was 75% vegetables and 25% shrimp. Shrimp had no sear and tasted like nothing. Ordered fried rice, it was slightly yellow tinted white rice with zero flavor. Ordered spicy beef, it was cold deli meat that I wouldn't have been willing to pay 4 dollars for let alone 10. Any breaded chicken (sweet and sour, general tso, etc) that was ordered was very small tough pieces with what seemed like more breading than meat. We got 80 dollars worth of food for our company to have a nice meal for working hard on the holidays, and instead threw most of it away. I could geniunely find better Asian food in a Trader Joe's frozen section for a quarter of the price.
Gold Dragon Restaurant
We have eaten here every few months for the last few years and I am always impressed. The food is super yummy! The staff is very nice and we are always glad to see our favorite server Ireland. And she genuinely seems happy to us too! Thanks for a great experience!
Haven't been here for 5 years. Thought I would give it another chance since they did some remodeling. But unfortunately they didn't change the quality of their food. It's the same old slop. If you like over cooked frozen vegetables and shrimp covered in beef processed gravy, then this is the place for you. The rice was lumpy too. That's a sign the rice is leftover and reheated. To make my experience worse, I used the bathroom too. There was no paper towels and soap. I couldn't wait to get out of there! Never again!
Chinn's Restaurant
Went in just now. It's not often we go outside our normal spot. I couldn't help but laugh. And it gave me a really good laugh. We were offered tea. Didn't even pour ourselves a glass because soap was just bubbling out the spout. My bf skeptical goes in for a finger taste. Maybe it's just foamy tea?? No it's soap. They served us soap. 🤣
This place is solid. We went for lunch. The interior is very dated but it’s clean and the food is fast, hot and pretty good. We ordered two lunch specials and both were delicious. I ordered the sweet-and-sour chicken and was happily surprised to see there was actually more chicken than breading . The portion sizes are huge so if you are a light eater, you might want to split a plate. The cream cheese, wontons were the best I’ve had in Salem and don’t forget to order the egg rolls. They’re super crispy and tasty . The prices are very affordable. I will definitely eat here again. Our total with tip was $36. The service was fast.
Fey Asian
Great food, great prices, large portions and the owners are the kindest people I’ve met since moving to the area two years ago.
Good food, good service! Only thing I dont like is they don't have tea! I love tea with my meal.
Red Apple | Restaurant & Lounge
Yan, the waitress has personality plus. Her service is smooth & fast as Yan also helps prepare the delicious fresh foods. Pricing is fair & food portions are generous. I will continue going there, 🙋♂️, Bill
The food was amazing for the price point. Very cheap, $11-$15 for combo plate. The best that we have had in a long time. It was not very busy and the portion sizes were extremely generous. I'd pass on the soup but really enjoyed the General Tsos and Sweet and Sour chicken. Also they have boba tea and Thai iced tea!
Dragon Chinese Kitchen
This was the best Wonton Soup I have ever had! For real. Everything was cooked perfectly, all the meat was tender, and the flavor was perfect. We happened to be passing through town and came here accidentally, and it was so delicious! My husband also loved his dish. Will be back for sure if we get the chance.
Best Chinese/ American Restaurant!!! Owners are very friendly and accommodating. We placed our take out order over the phone. We had their menu to guide us and helped with placing the order. Food was ready as promised and was delicious and hot, spicy dishes were seasoned well. Prices were very reasonable and serving was large. We ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and General Tsao Chicken with a side of Broccoli. The food was excellent and cooked perfectly!! Excellent service!! Owners are Chinese and English is their second language, they speak very good English …. I wish I could speak Chinese as well as they speak English.
Benny Huie's Restaurant
I grew up in Sheridan and came here often especially in high school on lunches 11+ years ago. Into adult life I’ve tried to make stops here whenever I’ve came through town. Food has always been good, the employees always sweet and will always hold a significant place in the memories of my childhood growing up in Sheridan. At lunch time they would feed so many kids at a very cheap price for the egg fried rice! Looking back I definitely appreciate how much they put up with all of us rowdy teens coming in. Now even years of trying a wide variety of American Chinese food places after moving out on my own, this place has always stood out to the rest. The pork fried rice especially has just never been beat and I look forward to those one in every year stops that I’m in the area to taste it again! To summarize, they treat the local kids well, they’re kind, and consistent with their food. It’s worth checking out.
Amazing food and customer service! We drive all the way from Astoria to eat there! We recently had a Birthday lunch for my 84 year old Grandma and they did not disappoint! They had tables set up and were ready to take orders. The food was plentiful and SO GOOD! The waitress and staff are so friendly. Highly recommend!!!!!!
Chen Family Dish
First time trying this place, we receded instantly and there was plenty of room inside, the atmosphere was pleasant, and there was a bunch of staff, they were overall friendly but there was one lady who was walking around you just seen grumpy, food itself came out in decent time and tasted as fresh as it could be for a American Chinese place, they had Pepsi products which was nice. I was able to get mountain dew. Refills came out timely and the price was fair
Very well run family restaurant with enthusiastic staff from local community. Food was fresh and tasty..Excellent mango beef with just the right blend of tang. Medly of fresh steam veggies on the side provided good balance. Beef chow fun (wide rice noodles ) had tender beef, marinated but light enough to have a good beef tasty..Fried rice was among the tastiest for a Chinese American eatery. Tasty and NOT greasy. Good experience. Staff and owners keep the place tidy and clean. Dining room, well lit with nice wood accent .
