Golden Dynasty
Had a lovely meal in this very comfortable restaurant. The restaurant is large but not noisy. The staff is very professional. The crispy noodles were so good they could easily become addictive. The servings are generous and delicious. Their lunch specials are very economical. Highly recommended.
Classic, reminds me of my younger years on Long Island. Nicely tasty and straightforward. Very accommodative of special dietary needs - no soy sauce for me, no sesame oil for another in our party. I had the cabbage and pork soup - for two and ate it all with gusto! I also had Singapore noodles, which I like very much and here it was presented with good curry taste but not hot (which I enjoy but most others in my party do not). They use trolleys to serve and clear, so there is always a bustle and rumble which is distracting.
Ancient Ginger
Food was good, but had unfortunately experience with delivery driver. He was very rude saying a $2.80 tip wasn’t enough for a $16.00 order that was a 5 minute drive down the block. Told me to order pickup next time because apparently that is not enough money. Edit: The man over the phone was very nice and apologized for the situation :)
Rude front desk worker. He was on the phone for 10 minutes not acknowledging me at all when I was simply picking up food. He than hung up and when I told him the name he simply said "and what" as if I was ruining his evening by asking for my order . . . If you don't like where you work change it. Otherwise you will turn away business for life. No way this place deserves over a 3 star rating. Edit : I don't work for door dash
Green Tea
We ordered like 6 different dishes and they all tasted the same. The food is super oily and I bet it tastes similar because the same flavored oil is used to make everything. On the plus side I guess the portions are reasonably good. If you don’t like oily food, definitely don’t recommend.
Figured I would try this place as it's close to my job, the food was OK, not great. The rice was good, the wonton soup was not what I expected, the wontons too soft, the broth was tasty. The Gen Tsos chicken was also tasty but bigger chunks, not crispy like I'm used to. The bill was also expensive, $35 for these 3 items, not much food. If the food was better I'd be more inclined to try more of the menu but I won't be ordering again.
The Halal Hut Stony Brook
I've been here a few times as they do make pretty good food. They have the standard Halal fare such as Gyro, Chicken, Fried Fish, etc over rice or salad which are very tasty dishes. My suggestion is to choose the Spicy Chicken for your protein as it is delicious and has a good kick of spice to it. My only complaint is that the white sauce (a Halal STAPLE) is too thin and watery. I usually have to order it on the side or it just makes the salad soggy and it all sinks to the bottom of the tray. If you like a bit of kick, order the #5 sauce. Yes, it's called number 5 and it is a sweet and spicy chipotle sauce. I am typically uninterested in anything chipotle but this sauce is quite delicious. The fried chicken is also pretty good, I do wish they made a spicy version of it as the standard coating is a bit on the bland side. Overall, I do enjoy the food though I would love to see the white sauce stepped up to compete with other local Halal haunts or, dare I say, compete with the NYC cart white sauce.
People working here are super nice and place is very clean. It is near the university which makes it a nice food option if you study or work there. Now let's get to the food...Pictured below is lamb over rice with white sauce..if you can find the white sauce! Rice were delicious...portion size is smaller than most “other” halal spots … the lamb was like cardboard...so maybe having proper white sauce would have made it taste better. but it didn't since white sauce was more like 1% milk with no flavor. They charge 4% transaction fee for using credit cards..which is annoying.
