Roma Pizzeria
We had an unexpectedly wonderful time at Roma Pizzaria. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality stood out. Gary was incredibly thoughtful — as vegetarians, we often have limited options, but he prepared a special pizza just for us, and it was fantastic. The staff was also especially kind and welcoming toward our toddler, making her feel right at home, which meant a lot to us. It was a pleasure chatting with Chef Scott, whose passion for his work really came through, and the new receptionist, Joselin, greeted us with genuine warmth. Great food, even better people — highly recommend!
I had been going here for years, practically my entire life. However, there has been new ownership in the last year or so that has completely decimated the quality of the food. Friends and I got some pies and it was the sloppiest, most wet pizzas we’ve ever had, from anywhere. Comically bad and hilariously sloppy. Might as well call this place Sloppy’s Pizza
Liki Asian Bistro & Bar
This place was pretty chill and a had a nice environment. The only thing holding it back is that it’s so expensive. The 22 dollar sushi triple roll I got was a decent amount and tasted great but it had quite an amount of filler in the fish. I bought a sushi pizza appetizer which was 16 bucks and it was soooooo tiny. Tasted good but not worth the price. My friend also got some shrimp with veggies and rice for 22 bucks and it was 95% veggies and 4 pieces shrimp. If you get anything here get the sushi.
12/09/24 - A shumai and yellowtail sashimi app, Sunset Boulevard signature roll (spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado w/plum sauce), and the Happy Four Season - beef, chicken, scallops & shrimp w/mixed vegetables perfect, as always. # 10/08/24 - Special occasion. Two roll lunches with spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail and shrimp tempura. # 5/24 - Still remarkable service and food. # 8/31/23: We love lunch here. Two of us ordered the 2 roll option with spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail and eel/avocado and one the salmon box. All came with a choice of soup & salad. # 1/23: Tasty rock shrimp, gyoza, sushi, sashimi, hand roll and cooked shellfish main. # 8/22: Always scrumptious. # Liki lunches are always delicious & nutritious. Hot green tea, sake, wonton soup with salad and ginger dressing, a teriyaki salmon box and 3 sushi rolls. I like the slivers of ginger. Their wasabi has a good burn. # For kicks, we tried the Scorpion drink for two. Nice presentation. Moderate alcohol despite the list. The Rock Shrimp App was so good order it for dinner. # Fine meal Feb '22. Arigatou! Sake and wonton soup nice & hot; fried pork gyoza, scallion pancakes & yellowtail sashimi all perfect; Seafood combo main, Avon Roll, Liki King Roll and Unagi were fine. # Sat at the bar this visit. Ordered 3 apps & 2 special cocktails from their blackboard. Drinks were great. Shrimp tempura was very good. Steamed gyoza. Curious if Japanese cuisine made a different version of calamari than Italian, we tried it. Very crunchy with a deep fried panko crust. It's good, but we prefer the traditional version. # Late Nov. lunch brought two teriyaki lunch boxes with salmon and shrimp. Salads and wonton soup still very good. The tea was hot this time, but the sake can use more heat. White rice was dry, cool and flavorless, so my partner mixed it into his brown rice upgrade which was warm and moist. Service is polite & efficient. # Exceptional lunch late Oct. I mean to have sit down lunches more often in Asian restaurants, instead of only dinner or picking up take-out. Liki gave us a noteworthy meal that included our choice of soup & a crisp salad with dressing that reminded me of Benihana's. The Wonton soup has delicate wrappings on the pork and a warm broth. I had 3 signature rolls: shrimp tempura, spicy tuna & eel avocado. All delicious. My partner chose a Lunch Box Special that comes with 3 shumai, a California roll, salad & rice. The Salmon Teriyaki Box had a lovely portion of fish with some cooked broccoli & carrots, shumai and a CA roll. The only flaw: the hot tea needs to be served hot. # As someone who used to eat sushi for many years in CA, and since Murasaki/Sakimura closed in Simsbury, I'm happy to find another good sushi restaurant in the area. Our table of three had two diners who ate raw fish and one who did not, but since Liki like most sushi places offers both cooked and raw fish, and other cuisine, we ordered a variety of items. Our meal included one yellowtail sushi, two spicy tuna hand rolls, a spider roll, shrimp tempura roll, pan fried pork dumplings, Thai veg mini rolls, one miso and wonton soup, a salad and two entrées. Two of us shared the triple sashimi 15 pc platter of the Chef's daily selection with salmon, yellowtail & tuna. One had the seafood combo of lobster, scallop, crab, shrimp & vegetables with brown rice. We ordered 2 pcs of Unagi for a traditional finish, but our waitress brought only one saying the Chef only makes one at a time. We split the one served. Everything was well prepared, fresh and a pleasure to eat. Miso soup is different on the west coast, so I'm getting used to the gold broth here. Liki has a well stocked bar. We tried the "Cucumber Smash," and "Liki Lemonade" with strawberries, lemonade & simple syrup but substituted Brockmans gin for vodka. Both were pretty and flavorful but my partner couldn't taste any gin. Ordering a 2nd, they were out of strawberries. I said see if it's the strawberries masking the gin or a light pour. It was the latter. I'll stick with sake. A small hot carafe completed the meal.
Friendly's
Very fair priced restaurant. You can get a large sundae to share for like 10 dollars. The milkshakes are great. The waitress I had was very polite, timely, and balancing like 8+ other tables. She was amazing. The price of fast food has gone up so much you might as well come in and order a better meal for about the same price maybe $5 extra if you wanna get yourself a great milkshake. The only downside is it can be loud because its a family restaurant meaning kids. However it's not horrid, maybe it's because I'm also a parent. But I've never had a bad experience of a kid being super loud or crying. I've come here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I've done the curbside pickup, I've come here after movies. Friendly's is a fantastic place for ice cream, food and at a very fair price.
I had an amazing experience at the Friendly’s in Avon! From the moment I walked in, the service was exceptional. Makenna and Ashlyn went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. They were friendly, attentive, and incredibly accommodating of my food allergies, ensuring that I could enjoy my meal with peace of mind. It’s not every day you come across such thoughtful and professional service. Thank you for making my visit so enjoyable—I’ll definitely be backup!
China Dragon
So yesterday I ordered from this place twice. The first time I had change to tip the delivery person. Which I do every time I order from here. The second order the person I ordered for didn't give me enough to tip. Do you know the delivery person went to the restaurant to report he did not get a tip. The one and only time I didn't, I'm getting a lecture. I found all this out when the person taking orders had the nerve to tell me about a tip. How is it my fault that they decided to not pay him and he work off tips. First of all a tip is not mandatory. Maybe he should go get a job that actually pays him. Never again!!! It's only Chinese good it will not be missed from my diet. If you order from here you you have to meet their order minimum, pay the delivery fee, and BETTER HAVE A TIP.
Never fails to disappoint. She always gives me the smallest portion of fries or rice. This was the last time. Check your food before you leave. They do not give the right portions
Shakou Restaurants
Food was excellent, nothing anyone ate was mediocre, it was all beyond our expectations and staff were fantastic our waters and drinks seemed to fill automatically while we enjoyed talking and eating. Even the chairs were comfortable didn’t make you back or bottom sore after sitting for 2 hours which flew by. Thanks for great service and a great meal.
The rolls are amazing! Urban heat and dragon fire are my favorites, the 7 spicy ahi app is fantastic as well. My only complaint is I haven’t found a martini here that I love! They are all far too sweet
Bistro 72
Great Tuesday deal- 3 shrimp (other options were pork & chicken) tacos & a handcrafted margarita for $20. We also tried other handcrafted drinks that were fabulous! Lavender Blossom and Espresso martinis $14. The evening was a blast with such a great bartender! They have Happy hour 4-7.
I’ve been visiting Bistro for many years and have always had a pleasant experience and great food. However this past weekend I invited my family to dine and for the first time oddly the experience wasn’t so great. As a customer who has explored the several menus mostly pescatarian options I know the flavor of the food and what to expect; however the mussels that were served were very pungent. Being a long time customer and familiar face I figured I’d let them know although 2 people in my party ate them against my suggestion. We had no problem paying for them as the waitress advised they took them off the bill. Towards the end my niece while packing her food noticed a penny was in her food! Again we brought it to their attention paid and left. Wouldn’t you know management gossiped to the staff without having a conversation with me as a long time customer & lied. So take it from me being a local if you speak up you will not be appreciated as apparently they aren’t able to have off days!! Which no company or restaurant will be perfect always.
Peking House
Tried their new coconut shrimp today and it is amazing! The best coconut shrimp I've had in a very long time! Highly recommend! As well as their new money bags! Delicious!
Ordered wontons and they had no filling. I don't understand how anyone could not notice that. They did it on purpose and you can't convince me otherwise.
Rice Bowl
Kung Pow chicken was great. Combo meal was loaded with fresh veggies and tender chicken. Fried rice was seasoned to perfection. If there was a broccoli worm in there they made it taste good. No complaints here, 10/10. Ps: egg rolls are bussing 👍 I’d post a pic but I devoured it
Great food and an updated menu if you don’t have a physical one
Foo Chow Restaurant
I was having a vacation around the area as I want to explore more upstate NY, you see, I'm from an island. When I came to this place, it felt like entering a vintage home with some modern culinary. The employees try to be as friendly as they can. The chef makes great food. Definitely would be a regular if I lived there. Just remember CASH is needed.
To dine in, the dishes and eating utensils were disposable and food was put in plastic take out containers. Even though I had asked if there were dishes, we planned to eat there. It seems the restaurant doesn't care about the unnecessary plastic garbage they're creating. Which will keep me from going back. As for the food, I asked if there were veggies in my meal and was told there was broccoli. There were two very small pieces. The eggroll was leathery , fried rice barely anything but rice, not even peas.
El Catrin Mexican Restaurant And Grocery
The food is wonderful. I had soft tacos, got one of each meat available. The absolute best was the roast pork. The little lady at the register was very kind and helpful. I'm not one who knows Spanish. It was great to have someone to explain the menu. Their flan was the perfect finish to the meal. They are located in a little strip mall near the WIC Office.
Looks a little messy. It’s a torta de chorizo like ground Italian sausage but Mexican. So authentic 5/5. This place has better food than el guacamole
Kampai Japanese Restaurant
If I could give zero stars, I would. This place is an absolute dump. The decor hasn’t been updated since the day it opened, and everything feels old, worn, and dirty. On top of that, the service and management are an absolute joke. We were handed a hibachi menu, so we ordered hibachi, only to have it served completely cold. When I brought it up, the owner told me that the waitstaff was supposed to warn us not to order hibachi if we weren’t sitting at a hibachi table. Seriously? Why give someone a hibachi menu if they can’t actually order it? To make matters worse, the hibachi noodles were made from angel hair pasta and were completely flavorless. Even my three-year-old grandson, who loves hibachi noodles, took two bites and declared he didn’t want any more. That says everything. The owner also claimed it’s “impossible” for the kitchen to cook hibachi dishes one at a time and keep them warm. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they charged me 50% of the total cost of the food as a way of supposedly making me happy. How is paying for cold, flavorless food in a rundown restaurant supposed to make anyone happy? Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs—it’s a waste of time and money.
Went here last night for Girls Night/my BFF's birthday. Good food, entertaining hibachi chef with adorable personality. I got the sushi while my friends got hibachi, but one friend gave me her mushrooms she didn't want and they were delicious. I also asked for a piece of white tuna sashimi, but was given the tuna sashimi. I didn't complain though, the waitress may have not heard me either due to surrounding conversation, or because sometimes I am too quiet. I ate it, and it was fresh and tasty. Volcano Bowl I shared with my BFF could have been a bit stronger, but maybe I just had a high tolerance, lol. We got particularly rowdy and animated after a few drinks, arguing about whether or not 'Die Hard' is a Xmas movie or not (it IS, by the way), and the bartender came over because she said we seemed fun and she wanted to join, which I thought was cute. (Maybe her way of making sure we weren't going to get too obnoxious, but it was funny and came off as sweet. She was a hoot.) Our waitress was also sweet. Towards the end of our meal they gave us complimentary glasses of plum wine, I assume because of my BFF's birthday, which I gushed about and asked them what brand they used because it was so much crisper and palatable than other plum wines I've had. The bartender was kind enough to show me the bottle. The atmosphere is super low key. I like the structure in the entrance way. Definitely would return here. 😊
Charlie Fox's Pizzeria & Eatery
One of the best veggie pizzas I've eaten! I had never ordered here before but picked up my friends' order on the way to visit them. They placed the order knowing what I like but I didn't know what to expect. I like extra sauce and typically expect a floppy crust but nope! I was pleasantly surprised with crispy crust that held up to it as well as the generous amount of vegetable toppings. Kudos! I will be ordering for my family soon.
Every restaurant can have an off night and unfortunately it happened during our visit. The pizza was VERY good as always. It was the service that failed us. We had a total of 5 families. The server took 2 orders and disappeared. We finally tracked someone down who got the server to come back to take the rest of the orders. The first 2 were done eating before the other 3 had their pizzas out. One of the orders got mixed up with a customer's delivery order. For whatever reason that delayed the 2 other orders yet to come out. I went to speak with a manager and waited at the counter for nearly 5 minutes for a single employee in plain view to acknowledge me. When the manager finally came to the counter (after I flagged him down) I expressed our frustration. Initially I was offered only excuses. It wasn't until I said we'd pay whatever the bill is but would be very disappointed if it were full price. To his credit, he offered a 30% discount and an apology, which I gratefully accepted. These issues shouldn't happen but it would be more understandable if they were busy. There were only 2 other tables with only 1 pizza order from each... There were 2 delivery drivers standing around... so they weren't busy at all. 8Inoticed there are some reviews that also call the service into question. Maybe ours wasn't an of night.... Is it the norm for this location?
