Okay this place is so underrated and so GOOD. The lo mein is some of the best I’ve had, the broccoli in garlic sauce is delectable and I have high standards. Not to mention the people who work there couldn’t have been nicer. It was raining outside and one of the waiters offered us his umbrella 😭 you don’t hear about that sort of kindness in New York anymore. Will be back, highly recommend. Also the tap water was mad tasty

This place is AMAZING! We tried so many Chinese spots and NONE of them came close to the quality and taste of New Moon. The ribs in black bean sauce is my favorite! Hot and sour soup is the BEST! Egg rolls are legit, if I was to nit pick, maybe more pork in them. We’ve never had a bad meal here.

Cash Only - Found this great spot for lunch while walking around Chinatown. Fast service and good food. Recommend the pork soup dumplings and orange beef. The place is cash only, and they have an ATM at the front if you need to get cash out. Overall, a solid find! Pictured: soup dumplings, fried rice, garlic eggplant, sesame chicken.

Had a great experience at Joe's Shanghai in New York. Pro tip: don't forget to grab a ticket number before joining the line - it gets packed fast. I waited about 30 minutes to get a seat, but it was absolutely worth it. Even though it was very crowded, the staff still provided excellent, efficient service. I ordered the steak and broccoli instead of the usual soup dumplings, and it really hit the spot. The steak was tender and flavorful, and the broccoli was fresh and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was lively. Great price also. Definitely recommend and would come back again!

Very good food! Thoroughly enjoyed our Chinese New year dinner here! Definitely recommend. The fried fish was really good as well as the Peking Pork chop! Hidden Gem!

Great food and presentation skills. Celebrating a relatives birthday, so we had the place to ourselves in the basement equipped with Karaoke.

I remember this being one of my family's takeout place back in the days when we used to have to drive to Chinatown for grocery shopping. It's been a few decades and it's still here! The establishment still look dumpy. The menu is a lot bigger, but to be honest, we have never order anything other than pork chops here, maybe chicken leg once. We had an underwhelming and unfulfilling noodle soup lunch at Noodle Village and were in need of more calories. On our way to our car we passed by Mai Wah. We had to try that signature pork chop rice box again, if not for nostalgic reason! The $7.50 Pork Chop Over Rice was ready in no time. It's as standard as it gets for lunchbox as I remembered, growing up in Taiwan - pork chop over rice and stir-fried cabbage, with pickled mustard green of course. It was satisfying. Pork chop is definitely better than the Taiwan Pork Chop House on Doyers St. Texture of rice could be better though. This is a reliable place for a grab and go quick meal.

Fast and cheap, but they never lack in flavor. I go here frequently for the fried pork chop over rice. The portions are great and I always leave satisfied. A real gem in Manhattan

I have grown up in NYC my entire life and swear this was such a welcome, delicious, pleasant surprise! Egg drop soup was so rich and flavorful! Chicken and string beans were so fresh and tasty and light and perfectly seasoned! Egg custard buns on the dim sum menu were incredible, very runny on the inside if you like that preference. Waitress explained how to eat soup dumplings, and checked on us often. Love when restaurants give a pitcher of water. LOVED! Will be back! Place was empty so wasn’t expecting it to be as DELISH as it was, made it 10x better 😋 Will be back!

We were just walking by this restaurant and we decided to try it out. The pork Dim Sum was so yummy. We also had some Chinese beer and tejer were good as well. The spring rolls were good too. Our server was supper friendly and kind. He even explained how to eat the dim sum.

The service is not bad. They serve dim sum during morning and lunch hours. But their evening dinner is good to try too. I always like to order takeout from here. Their beef chow mein is the best to order from here too that I highly recommend.

Update: terrible diarrhea after going here. They need a better cleaner policy. Great food and try to seat in the middle room . We ordered a few dishes and they are well made better than congee village. I think they used to be busier before. Food is delicious and mostly local come for dinner. Dimsum can be a mix of tourist and local fans. Service can be a mix. Some waiter are rude and some can be nice. It helps to speak some Chinese. Usually not a fan of picture on menu but this can help here. Overall it’s loud and need time to ease in.

Good flavor for the Fried Beef Noodles, but the beef was tough and tasted artificial. Roast duck was average. Reasonable prices, but not worth waiting in a long line.

This place is doing serious things with roasted meats. The star of the show? That perfectly crispy-skinned, juicy roasted chicken—seasoned to perfection with just the right balance of herbs, garlic, and heat. You can tell it’s made with love and technique, not shortcuts. The rice is fragrant and fluffy, the sauces are bold and punchy (don’t skip the chili oil or house garlic sauce), and even the veggies are done right—fresh, simple, and flavorful. It’s comfort food elevated, without losing the soul. Portions are generous, the prices are more than fair, and the staff is warm and welcoming every time. Whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch or taking dinner to-go, they keep it fast without sacrificing quality. Five stars, hands down. Hay Hay Roasted is the kind of place you keep coming back to—and crave when you’re not there.

I had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful lunch date with my niece Sammoya at China River, and it was an experience to remember! From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with warm smiles and a vibrant atmosphere that set the perfect tone for our outing. The menu offered an impressive array of authentic Chinese dishes, and we struggled to choose because everything sounded so delicious! We finally settled on the Singapore Noodles and the Shrimp Fried Rice, both of which were bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The portion sizes were generous, leaving us completely satisfied but eager for more! Sammoya particularly loved the mango juice, fruity and fresh, paired with the right amount of sugar along with other tangy citrus flavors, making it a super treat for the mouth—she couldn’t stop raving about them! The attentive staff made sure we felt welcomed and catered to our every need, adding to the overall enjoyment of our meal. What truly stood out to us was the cozy ambiance of the restaurant, making it an ideal spot for quality time with loved ones. We left feeling happy, full, and excited to come back and explore more of the menu. Thank you, China River, for providing such a wonderful dining experience! We can't wait to return. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and a welcoming vibe! Many thanks again my niece for insisting that we should have Chinese Cuisine while visiting New York.

Very good Peking duck. Best in the area. The soup dumplings weren’t too bad but just average overall. The fried fish was excellent. Perfectly crispy. The rice bowls are massive to be sure to share. It gets extremely busy for very limited staff so service can take long. It was also extremely hot inside.

This is one of my dad’s favorite restaurants and he wanted to have his birthday dinner here. I called and made same day reservations, requested 7:30 but was offered 8:15. We got to the restaurant around 8, there is street parking to be found in the area after 7pm. It was my first time here…the restaurant is cute but tiny…7 tables in total and one additional table in a private room..expect a lengthy wait…it was a bit disappointing that even with the reservations we actually didn’t get our table until 9, which means we were sitting around waiting for an hour, not ideal especially with little ones! The staff did their best to accommodate, and put our order in while we were waiting so that our food arrived shortly after we sat down, which was amazing given that we were starving by then. We got the table in the back in the private room and it’s a great place for a celebration. The food was worth the wait!! The duck was amazing, definitely the highlight here…crispy skin, tender meat…really good flavor! My son loved the soup dumplings…The scallion pancake was less oily than what I am used to but nothing special. Would recommend the mashed garlic cucumber as an accompaniment: so yum, we should have ordered two!! The beef ribs with crispy crust were good but heavy…really tasty with the pineapple on the side. Dessert was delicious too and really fun for the kids we had the chocolate ice cream shaped as different animals. My 9 year old proclaimed this was the best meal she’s ever had and she loves to eat out so that says a lot! Not the best meal I’ve ever had but I would definitely be back for their duck…wouldn’t bother making reservations next time and would just walk in expecting a long wait. Overall great dinner experience, worth the wait!

The best pork soup dumplings in Manhattan, I would have to say. Well done chef! Beijing duck was nice, but the sauce was a bit of too thick and salty. Shrimp crispy rolls didn’t taste too good. Nice restaurant, clean bathrooms. Staffs were very nice and kind.

Quaint spot in Midtown the Murray Hill section of Manhattan. Overall, very well kept clean location and appealing to the eye, which is why I stopped in amongst all the choices in the area. The location was empty for the last hour of lunch and while I was seated only two pairs of patrons joined at that time so not in the least bit crowded. Despite expecting 1:1 service based on those numbers they were not that attentive. There was no rush in their greeting as the host and server barely moved in acknowledging my presence. It was a nice day and opted to dine outside. My table was not cleared until the end of the meal as opposed to checking in and removing as I go. I ordered from the pre-fixed lunch menu and had shrimp dumplings and black pepper scallops. Presentation was pleasant but both seemed to be cooked a little longer than necessary. The scallops were slightly rubbery and not easy to cut through. I used the plastic chopsticks they supplied which should have been ample, I should have opted for the fork that was provided. There’s better in the area and they likely do well with take-out and delivery due to the Hospitals, residences and local business in the area.

Love love loved their food!! Super cute place that serves very authentic Shanghainese food, space can be slightly limited. The portions can be on the smaller side, so be ready to order more dishes if you're really hungry. Service was friendly and fast, would recommend going with group of friends! Food-wise: the four of us ordered Steamed Whole Bass, Baby Eel with Scallion and Ginger Sauce, Dong Po Pork, and steamed soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao). - I really enjoyed the steamed sea bass, it was very fresh and tender, and definitely worth the price. - The baby eel with scallion and ginger sauce was also great - very authentic Chinese dish that's not easy to make and not always offered in any random Chinese restaurant. - I also really liked the string beans with minced meat - this is grilled string beans that's spicy, so very unlike your typical bland string beans. - One final recommendation is the Shanghai stir fried noodles - extra carbs for the gents around the table! Would definitely revisit with more friends whenever I'm in the area!

I recently visited for the second time, and unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to expectations. The food, while edible, didn’t quite capture the authentic flavors I was hoping for. There was a noticeable lack of depth and traditional seasoning that usually defines the dish. The ingredients seemed fresh, but the overall taste just didn’t hit the mark. There was a particularly peculiar fish dish that tasted like maple syrup. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that's not a typical Shanghainese flavor. I thought the green beans would be a safe bet, but these beans were over cooked. The salty egg rice cakes were probably the best thing I had here. I'd go back just for those. The biggest issue, however, was the price. The meal was quite expensive for what was served. I completely understand that the cost is probably inflated due to the prime location, but it still felt like I wasn’t getting the value I’d hoped for. Overall, while the atmosphere was lovely, and I can see the appeal of the spot, the food left much to be desired for the price point. If you're in the area and looking for a quick bite, it’s okay, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for an authentic experience.

It’s better than many other Dim Sum around, but definitely the worst Tim Ho Wan I’ve tried so far. The taste is different as the original, I’ve had many times in HK, and tried in Australia, and Hawaii, much much better than this in NYC. The chicken feet tasted a bit weird and way too soft, braised beef was chewy, tunip cakes were burnt, the most disappointing dish was the bbq pork buns which supposed was their signature, but tasted just average!

First time visiting this location of Tim Ho Wan. It wasn’t pretty quiet on Friday at noon. Service is fast and efficient. Mark your order using the pencil and menu sheet. Food was solid but not amazing. The spicy cucumber is a good value and sizable portion. The pork buns are the specialty but a bit sweet for my taste. I would prefer if they didn’t cut my shrimp rice roll - it’s not really needed. Out of the dim sum, the chive shrimp dumplings were my favorite.
