Gum Kuo
Starting with the Beef Tripe Wonton Noodle Soup, it offered a comforting blend of tender beef tripe and delicate wontons in a fragrant broth. While beef tripe wasn't quite my preference, the soup base and wontons were undeniably delicious. It's a dish worth trying for the adventurous diner. Next up, the Roasted Duck with Noodle Soup took center stage. The succulent duck slices paired perfectly with the egg noodles, and the rich broth infused with roasted duck essence was truly soul-soothing. The crispy skin added a delightful crunch, making it a must-try for duck enthusiasts. We also tried their BBQ Combo Dish, which included BBQ pork and roast duck bursting with flavor, thanks to the perfectly balanced marinade. The Beef and Egg Over Rice was alright but not memorable. To cleanse our palates, we enjoyed refreshing Lemon Tea, its citrusy zing complementing the savory dishes beautifully. I also ordered their Beef Chow Fen for takeout, featuring wide rice noodles stir-fried with succulent beef, creating a harmonious blend of flavors and textures.
This is what a Cantonese dining experience is!!! Disclaimer: I have eaten at this place since I was a child, I fell in love with the chang fun and the porridge here. So I was so sad when I heard from my own parents that this place was not as good and affordable anymore. So, after 4 years away from the military, I returned to try it with a critical eye. It did not disappoint. The pork liver changfun (with out yellow chives) was soft and silky, while the pork liver was cooked and seasoned to perfection. It had a slight crunchy texture. The pork inards porridge was also really delicious with great flavors. The meat was perfectly cooked, pairing perfect with the Chinese doughnut. The wonton noodles were good, not amazing, but still objectively good. The menu is large, not as cheap as its neighbors, and it is easy to order food that may not be as good, but trust men when I say to order the specialties. The changfun and porridge. When I sat down and looked at all the elderly people's table, it was all of those. The specialties that are sold here are still one of the best I had in the world, including Guangzhou, Malaysia, Singapore, and other Asian speaking countries. I am still on a journey to find a good replacement. I will update this when I do.
Ying Kee Restaurant
Was excited to try their Curry Beef Brisket, but it was really not enjoyable. The onions and peppers were barely cooked so they still had that raw taste/crunch and the “brisket” was mostly fat/cartilage (as pictured) with about three small chunks of meat in the whole meal. The container also leaked all over since for whatever reason they didn’t think to use one that seals fully. For a $50+ check, I’m pretty upset that I was served curry with raw vegetables and the scraps you’d trim off a brisket rather than the brisket itself. First and last visit here.
Fast service and great food. Dried scallops egg white fried rice was awesome, it looked plain but it’s very flavorful. We were so hungry when we arrived without further ado we ordered the fried rice and it’s served in less than 10 mins.
Best Taste
Quite authentic Hong Kong-style BBQ, not the best in its class but they won the price war. Their breakfast deal is unbeatable in the entire bay area at
Good place to stop by if you are in the area. They have breakfast deal which mostly the one on breakfast menu is less than 10 dlr and it comes with free milk tea and the porridge come with free chinese donut. When we arrived , the restaurantbis pretty full but we get seated right away. They have breakfast menu from8 to 11 am. They also have bbq stuff which looks yummy like chicken, pork and duck. They also have lamb dishes. We ordered porridge, braised beef noodle soup, bbq pork rice roll and chinese donut rice roll. The noodle and porridge are about $8 which hard to find the price anywhere else. The portion is also generous. The noddle is also yummy. The rice roll is unique as it is thicker than regular rice roll at other places. There is min of $25 if you want to pay with card. Overall is is good meal
Jade Palace
Jade’s Palace is a decent spot among Oakland’s Chinese eateries. It’s a simple takeout place with a massive menu and generous portions. I had the chicken fried rice and salted fish; both were pretty good. The atmosphere is brighter than many other places around. The staff could be friendlier, but overall, it’s a reliable spot if you’re in the mood for Chinese food.
The food here is super umami flavorful! They know how to use that "Make S*** Good" seasoning! Everything I ordered was 🔥. This will be my go to spot for easy Chinese Food.
Jin Sing Restaurant
I've been coming to this place for about 30 years, Now... I've been coming here since junior high school in the early 1990's... The food is great, the owner is really sweet and the prices are very reasonable... If you want to find a nice spot quick good price take out doordash delivery it's a perfect place to call good price and great food... It never fails every time you come here you will be completely satisfied....
Their vegetable fried rice is literally full of vegetables! I gave up meat for Lent and happened upon this gem. They also make vegetarian kung pao chicken!
China Express
Veggies are not as fresh as panda express but this place got more variety maybe will come again maybe
American buffet style Chinese food. Tasty once soy sauce and hot sauce is added. I eat here for lunch daily. Food is always fresh. Very comfortable atmosphere while eating here.
New Ocean Food Market
Overall, the food at New Ocen Chinese fast food is good, and there are a variety of choices. They also do reservation parties, and the price is affordable. The location is located on the bustling International Avenue. Today I ordered stirfry beef with broccoli, it was ok but too salty, and there were a few flies flying around in the cafeteria. Hope to improve with suggestions.
Me and my family have been coming here for years! Pretty consistent and delicious
Happy Garden
A very delicious place to get some food. Usually busy so call ahead. The only thing I would change is ask for Salt & Pepper Fish a bit more fried. Looking forward to trying more dishes from this place. Great price for portions! Ate here before for Dine in and the experience is also very nice. The orange chicken is good here too! Thank you to restaurant employees!🥡
It's the best Chinese around these days without driving far. Excellent service but lacking in some flavor... You cover that up by requesting extra sweet and sour and you can enjoy the menu. I'm a chef so I'm a food snob, but I'm used to New York Style Chinese food and I was addicted to that. West coast Chinese is whelming at best.
Egg Roll Kitchen
I visited SF from Houston and heard about this place and decided to make the trip to Oakland. Let me tell you, this is some of the best Chinese Food I’ve had in a long time. The shrimp fried rice was excellent! If you are in the area, it is worth the try. Please know it is cash only and they did not offer any wifi plugs to the customers. Also, you may want to ask for extra shrimp as they only put 4 maybe 5, at max, large pieces of shrimp in the shrimp fried rice. Overall, the food is great and I highly recommend.
Apparently the quality has gone down since the ownership has changed. It used to be the older Asian gentleman that prepared the food. These new folks are not the same. Don't eat/but the bok choy from here, it's riddled with black small bugs! They must don't believe in Washing the greens 🤷🏽♀️. We took one order back, they said they would make it over. Once we got home, we noticed multiple black bugs in the new order. So this has to make us wonder, what else are they not being hygienic with? We won't be going back here. It is unethical to sell customer's dirty food. We also ordered egg rolls that were sour-- I let my dog have those. It's time for them to pack it up and leave the hood-- we don't eat dirty food. I drove from Hayward to get this mess! 🤮🤢
Tasty Szechuan
If you look beyond the locality and the surrounding businesses, you will discover delicious soul food here. One night, I visited this place and noticed an elderly couple—an older woman at the cashier and her husband in the kitchen—preparing some amazing dishes. I ordered a combination plate with half chow mein, half fried rice, chicken, eggs, and extra shrimp, which was perfectly fine. While the shrimp was a bit dry, I preferred the fried rice over the greasy chow mein, so I'll overlook that this time. I'm giving it 3.5 stars, not just for the food, but also for the effort that the couple puts into this restaurant. It truly deserves more love and attention.🍟🫕🍜🍤🍚🍛
The Chinese food is amazing if you want to try Authentic Chinese cuisine this is the place it’s a hole in the wall spot in East Oakland California in the hood but it’s worth it don’t let the neighborhood stop you from e getting great foods AMust try
Lucky Dragon Cafe
Oakland is a unique place where you can find soul food and local cuisine nestled in the heart of the city. Unlike San Francisco or the South Bay, many people are unaware of the diverse food scene here in Oakland. One evening, I was looking for some fried rice 🍚🍛and, since I was staying nearby, I stumbled upon a charming little spot where I decided to order a combination plate.🍜 The elderly lady at the cashier was incredibly sweet and friendly, and I suspected the chef was her husband. I requested fried rice along with half chow mein, and she provided me with excellent options for that evening. When I went to pay, I noticed that I could add extra shrimp for just a dollar more; I asked her for the shrimp, and she generously gave it to me for free. She was truly delightful! I enjoyed a fantastic dinner that night for about $11, and the portions were enormous. It's these hidden gems that deserve more love and attention, as not many people take the time to review places like this. I rated it a solid four stars overall, with five stars for the atmosphere and service, all thanks to that wonderful couple. While the food was acceptable—nothing extraordinary—I appreciated the experience enough to give the place a strong rating.
Delicious food. My favorites are orange beef, sweet and sour pork and salt and pepper pork chops. Quick delivery time have them repeat your order back to prevent confusion. Enjoy your food.
Lucky Express
They give you hella food but the flavor is mediocre. It was ok for a bite to eat on my lunch break. It isn’t something I will regularly crave. Prices are reasonable too.
I went to get some food from this place, and the manager had the audacity to taste my food. She didn’t know it was mine. I sat there, and I watched her.
