Blue Koi
Great Cantonese style Chinese food with lots of veg options on the menu. I definitely recommend the Ants on a Tree noodle dish, and the Chinese Curry as main dishes. The Vegan Delights soup is also pretty good. The appetizers are really good too - Eggplant Pockets are great to share, the Tofu and Awesome Sauce is delicious, the Lettuce Wraps and Tempura are also great. The dumplings are also good, if not the most unique thing on the menu. They also have bubble teas, a couple flavors can be made without dairy. I very much miss their original 39th Street location, I think it was the better more central location with far more character and I'm sad that they chose to close it instead of the expansion location. The service is still good and reasonably friendly, although they have gotten a little more bureaucratic and a little less friendly about how they handle guests. They have always been slightly on the expensive side, but the quality has also always been very good. A favorite restaurant in the area.
We visited at lunch time during the week. The server was very kind and helpful with recommendations. We ordered the dragonwell pot of tea, basil chicken in lettuce wrap, chicken pan fried dumpings & Chinese style pot roast. The food was delicious with very large portions!
China Taste
I’ve tried giving this place plenty of chances over the years. Their prices are absolutely amazing which is the reason I have come back to try again. But the lo mein was extremely greasy, there were huge chunks of onion in the fried rice, and the crab ragoon… well the taste is okay, but the picture says it all. Not warm or fresh at all. Idk. I don’t think it’s what everyone in Gardner makes it out to be. The price is very reasonable but I guess you pay for what you get. Maybe a different time of day is better? Got this at 12pm for what I figured was the lunch rush.
Beef and Broccoli was great! My issue is with the vegetable fried rice I ordered. It was some of the worst rice I’ve ever had, whatever they were cooking in seemed to not be cleaned as it tasted like nasty pan food I have not tasted rice like that ever.
China Restaurant
Yes! Our first time eating under the new owners. The portion sizes were so large. Everything we tried was delicious. We had leftovers for lunch and enjoyed it piping hot when it came through our front door. Super pleased with the food and the service we received on the phone and when we picked up our large order (gotta feed this army of growing teens!!). Will eat here again.
The food was amazing, probably best I've had in and around the area from KC to Coffeyville Ks. However I was there Monday 2/10/25 @ 12:30 pm I ordered the lunch specials @ 7.95 ea the lady absolutely refused to give me the lunch price and insisted she gave me the dinner portion 🤦♀️ I didn't even have a reg menu I had the lunch specials menu I even pointed to the 3 meals I wanted. She questioned me about wanting 3 meals
Chen's Buffet
I had to rate 1 star in order to post my experience. Otherwise, ZERO would be more adequate. At one time, going to Chen's felt like stopping by your cousin's cookout. Friendly atmosphere. Everybody around the food table with plates, nodding at one another, GOOD food. The previous few years i had been most pleased with the owners, staff, food, and SERVICE. But, then, that all seemed to change- with change of ownership. 3/8/2025- I telephone Chens in order to let them know that, although I hated to make the call, the Shrimp Fried Rice I'd ordered for carryout had a burnt taste. I was told that this is the way it was supposed to taste. I reiterated that no, I've had their SFR before, and this is burnt with singed carrots, eggs, and shrimp. I was then hung up on. And, I assure you, the entire time I was speaking politely, as I honestly did not want to phone with a complaint. However, I really couldn't afford this splurge right now, that is absolutely inedible! I tried to phone back, but it went to voicemail. Totally unprofessional! This is the lowest amount I've ever spent there. Instead of replacing a meal that they know isn't right, they've lost a customer, and I'm sharing my experience. I am so disappointed. Granted, a few years back, the food used to be really good - but, I feel the main reason most people loved Chen's so much during that time is due to the way we were all treated, almost as family. I refuse to go back. Not with the most recent change.
Good food. But upset that when I broke $100 there I was charged $30 for a meal for me and my four year old. Was told it was $21. If there were cameras I'd go back in and complain about it. Anyway. I won't be breaking hundreds any time soon anywhere else other than my bank.
Grand Wok
Me & my Daughter went to Twisted Sugar we didn't realize there was an Asian Restaurant next door we decided to stop in. The lady at the register was good at taking our order she explained what ingredients are in the combination rice. Once we ordered our food we went to Twisted Sugar while our food was being prepared, went back to pick up our food. The reason I gave 2 stars for service I asked for duck sauce I was given 3 packs & had to ask for more duck sauce. The reason for one star for atmosphere is me & my Daughter was stared at like we were in the wrong establishment of course we were the only African Americans in the building. Now to the food, you get plenty food for your money, the combination rice is delicious plenty of shrimp, beef, & chicken.
Stop in today for my 1st ever visit. Amazing welcoming atmosphere, with a friendly professional service. Lady at counter was on her A game, made sure we was well taken care of! Probably now one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. Got stemmed and fried dumplings, OMG so yummy. Also had the egg-roles my favorite tasted amazing, had the general Taos chicken with rice loved how the chicken wasn’t smothered with vegetables like other nearby restaurants… A++ highly recommended!
Wong's Kitchen
The food was amazing and I ended up eating everything on my plate. Everyone else ended up taking food to go. I opted out of the soup with the lunch special but they let me have an extra crab Rangoon since I did not want soup. I got the shrimp with broccoli and fried rice. It was worth every penny. My coworkers said the soup was good. Kind of reminded them of chicken noodle soup.
Absolutely loved the jalapeno chicken at Wong’s Kitchen! The dish had the perfect balance of spice from the jalapenos and savory flavors from the tender chicken. Each bite was bursting with deliciousness, and the presentation was impeccable. Highly recommend trying it if you're a fan of spicy dishes with a twist!"
Hong Kong Star Restaurant
The Beef Chow Fun was really good and the only item I would reorder. The Black Pepper Chicken Feet were bland and served warm. The XO Eggplant was disappointing because it was mostly breading and slightly bitter. We ordered Salt and Pepper Fish, but they mistakenly brought the Fish Fillet Special with White Sauce instead. It was just okay. On a positive note, the food came out quickly, and the staff was patient as we took our time browsing the menu. Unfortunately, with so few Cantonese restaurants in KC, I’ll likely have to return to try other dishes.
Stopped on way back to Kansas on Christmas cause Chinese restaurants are always open on Christmas. Amazing. First time in a long time had real Orange Chicken the way it’s supposed to be. Orange peals and all. Absolutely fantastic food.
Lucky Star Chinese Restaurant
I ordered Honey Chicken and fried wontons. My friend ordered chicken and vegetables. When my friend opened the chicken and vegetables she said it smelled bad. She took a bit thinking her smell was off and it tasted bad. She could not eat it. My honey chicken was not crispy but the fried wonton were. Way over done . I called and was told I can bring the food back for a refund. When I got to the restaurant with my full bag of food. The owner had an attitude and told me never to order from there again. I was even trying to tell her that we ordered once before and it was good then. But with her making the excuse that the honey chicken wasn't crispy because I took it home and didn't eat in the restaurant and that there is no sauce on the honey chicken. That doesn't make sense if that was the case the won tons wouldn't be crispy. She had a horrible attitude and horrible customer service. I will never be back. There are way too many chineese restaurants to go to.
Favorite Chinese spot in Olathe for years. Cashew chicken is always a good bet but the honey chicken is also great, sweet and crispy!
Asian Pearl Restaurant
We order from Doordash from this location once a month. The food is always great, tasty, and well prepared. The prices are great for the portion of the food. The lunch portions come with an appetizer and a soup. The egg drop soup is one of the best in town. The lomain was a bit greasy last time I ordered for the first time. Hoping it was only a one time thing and they didn’t change the chef.
Really liked this place. Super clean, lots of options including gluten free and liked the energy of the space. Employee that helped us was lovely! This just may be my new go to for Asian food, even though we have a place 2 miles from home. Highly recommend!
Rice N Noodles
I had the wonton soup and Singapore noodles, Soup was good, and the noodles were very very salty, all of a sudden my tongue started to burn and my stomach was turning, I had explosiveness out of both ends in the restroom 30 min after not finishing my meal. extreme headache, I work in a doctor office and they said I had food poisoning. It was so horrible, the stabbing muscle pains all over my body and chills with a temp. I will never return. Food must've sat out or been old with bacterial growth. Its a NO for me
I love the Honey Shrimp and Crab Rangoon. The lady behind the counter is always so kind and helpful. I don't live in the KC area, but when I do go, I try to make in for my favorites. Somehow, she seems to remember me. Great customer service!
China Star
Was excited to try this place because of the positive reviews I’d seen. I order sesame chicken with pork fried rice and an egg roll. This is my go-to order that I tend to get at most Chinese places. The fried rice had a really odd flavor was not even edible for me. The chicken was fine but not as good as some of the other local restaurants. Ended up tossing half the meal.
THE BEST CHINESE FOOD IN KC. By far the best American-Chinese food place I have been to in Kansas City area. It's truly mom-and-pop. I've been here 100+ times over 12 years and it's consistent, affordable, delicious, friendly mama up front, papa is good cook in back. Quality, well-prepared ingredients. Best dish for me is simply the pork fried rice. Their eggrolls are amazing also!
New China Town
I ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice, food was So Bland that I had to add extra soy sauce & salt & their shrimps are Tiny Sized. Their customer service sucks but crack, will never return to this place! Give it 2 thumbs down 👎🏾👎🏾
The best Asian food. Always fresh , hot, and delicious. We love this place.
