Lao Sze Chuan (Downtown)
I came with high expectations, having heard that this is a well-established spot. I was really looking forward to it, but the food tasted quite average. The seafood tofu casserole was packed with ingredients but was not that impressed with the taste. The old hen soup was okay, and the stir-fried pea shoots were standard, though a bit salty. While the food was ordinary, I really enjoyed the ambiance and decoration at this restaurant. Also, their waitresses were very warm and friendly.
To get to the restaurant from Michigan Ave, you enter a small lobby and take an elevator up. The Lao Szechuan at this location is different from the one in Chinatown. The dried chili chicken here isn’t as crispy or spicy, though the flavor is still good. It could use more peppercorns and heat. In today’s inflated world, the lunch special was a great deal at $13, which included a soda, the chicken, rice, and a spring roll. I’ll definitely return when I have cravings. The service was quick—about 10 minutes, which wasn’t bad at all. I ate half and reheated the rest in the air fryer the next day, and it tasted just as good!
Lao Sze Chuan (Grant Park)
The food is awful here. I have ordered xia long bao, and those were more like pierogi, very thick skin and almost no juice. And their “famous” double cooked pork was way too salty, oily, and quite dry. Instead of the oolong tea they brought ginseng oolong. I don’t mind that, but still.. The 2nd star I give only for the sesame balls. I strongly believe that both, dumplings and sesame balls are store bought, not handmade. Paid $60! Crazy expensive for such a meal. Q
We came to this location for lunch as we heard they had some solid lunch specials. You can get an entrée, a side of rice, a veggie roll, and a drink all for around $12. I ordered the fried rice with the dry chili chicken. The fried rice was quite good, and the chicken was decent with a nice crisp, but was a bit too salty for my taste. The portion size was good for the price. The service was friendly, and the food came out quickly. Clean, well-kept restaurant. Worth a shot if you like Asian food and are looking for a lunch deal!
Three Happiness Restaurant
Visited on 11/25/2024. We ordered egg drop soup, pot stickers, chicken fried rice, and a chicken with vegetables. It was all pretty good. Very tasty. Took home leftovers and ate them for lunch today.
Honestly two seated for a quick lunch it was really great service , very casual atmosphere and very gracious portions but everything we ordered was delicious and cooked well , I had the vegetable fried rice and vegetable egg rolls super quick attentive service and kind folks working there .

Original Triple Crown Restaurant
Came here with my family for dinner. Food and pricing are both reasonable. Taste was pretty good, some dishes were a little bit salty. But would recommend.
I was looking for a place to eat after 10:00 p.m. on a Sunday and I happen to find this place. They're open till 1:00 a.m. It was very surprised at how many people were in this restaurant so late in the evening. After eating the food I understood why; it was super fast and delicious. I really appreciated how good the food was especially considering how late it was.
Panda Express
Panda Express offers quick and tasty Chinese-American cuisine, perfect for satisfying cravings on the go. However, most menu options are high in calories, sodium, and fat, making it less suitable for those seeking healthier dining choices. Overall, it's a convenient option for a flavorful meal, but moderation is key for health-conscious eaters.
Good food and good service so far. We waited long time in line because a huge to go order but other than that no complaints.
Panda Express
The food is fine , it is what you expect from fast food Asian cuisine , it is convenient , the orange chicken was fine , the sesame chicken was also fine , I did like the cream cheese Rangoon , but who wouldn’t lol. Anyway it’s just a good on the go option , nothing to wake up from your sleep dreaming about.
Being situated in a prime spot within the downtown, this place has one advantage. Still I don't know why it hadn't got very low stars. Yet I liked it. If you do like Chinese food and you are looking for lunch/dinner after work, I guess this is a good place. The other day I tried orange chicken, it was too sweet for me. This time I tried Kung Pao Chicken and Black Pepper Chicken with fried rice, they were also sweet, but a bit lesser. It was tasty no doubt. I can't complain about the crowd because I didn't face any, I was the only one ordering. They were almost closing, but they didn't seem annoyed that I was ordering at the last moment. They carried the food outside for me. That's a good point to note. I was happy, so 4 stars in the end is a good trade.
Kam Fung Restaurant
Really nice crew plus tasty food! Warm and welcoming host is definitely a bonus:) highly recommended! Cantonese food.
My husband I love this restaurant. We go frequently. It’s our favorite restaurant in Chinatown, it’s kind of a hidden gem. We always get Singapore Noodles, and switch between walnut shrimp and various chicken dishes. This time we got general tsos and it was great. We also always get Choy Sum in garlic. For the price it’s worth it.
Panda Express
They have really improved on service and food in the past few years. I order from here often.
The best Panda in the city! Food is always fresh and readily available. Jackie the manager really keeps that place running in top shape! Always clean! Great customer service whether it’s two or twenty people in line. They need to give her a raise because there are some seriously sorry PEs around and she holds it down!
Mei's
I would not recommend this restaurant due to the overpriced and disappointing quality of the food. While the Assorted Pickled Vegetables were exceptional, the Princess Beef was not up to par. Although the sauce was flavorful, the beef had excessive fat and did not meet expectations. The Strawberry Soft Cream cake for dessert was dry and lacked flavor. However, I must commend the excellent service provided by the staff. Despite their efforts, my high expectations were not met, and I left feeling dissatisfied after spending a considerable amount of money. I will not be returning to eat here again.
They’re open later than most options around here, have fantastic service and delicious food. Not loud, exceptionally clean, and worth visiting repeatedly to try everything on the menu.
Number 1 Chop Suey
Food is delicious better than expected prices are good for the amount you get and I got a fast delivery for the amount of food I ordered and the delivery boy was patient, smoothee tastes good and refreshing, beef fried rice is savory and tasty, orange chicken is nice and sweet and sour with very little spice with it, crab Rangoon are nicely filled and are crispy has to be the best spot I've ordered from
Ok so this place deserves a better rep for sure. Nobody asked me to leave a review... I just moved here in October(2024) and this is my first time trying it because I never saw it hiding in this squished strip mall. But this is really good food. Egg Roll, Crab Rangoon and Orange Beef. Big Portions. Ready in under 20 minutes. All very good even tho next time I'd go w/ beef w/o breading. Authentic Chinese folks at the kitchen... Fast... No Bs... Good energy... Give this place a shot if you haven't already.
Star East
This is my first time to this restaurant. The restaurant is inconspicuous, with only a few dining tables, but the taste is very good! I ordered 3 dishes and we really liked them all. Will come again and try more dishes! It's my first choice in this area now!
I’m Ghanaian & I know good food! That old chef has gifted hands. The combination fried rice was yummy! Congrats! You've got yourself a new loyal customer.
