Lucky Chopsticks
We love the idea of a typical Chinese restaurant in Carytown so we were looking forward to trying it. We decided to order online for pick up. Things we learned: -The person who answers the phone is very helpful, the service is friendly, and orders are ready on time. -The food was hot and plentiful. -The poke bowls are no longer available. -The website doesn’t have any photos or descriptions of the dishes, but it could use both. -The menu images on google are old and outdated. -When you order extra spicy online, you may not get it. -White rice comes with the meal if you order a meal. -When you want plain white rice but don’t know it’s included and request it ordering plain fried rice (which is somehow different than fried rice?), you may instead get fried rice anyway. -Vegetable fried rice includes about a dozen pieces of carrots/peas and a strand or two of egg. -The delivery minimum is a hefty $30. Notes on our food for our future reference if we ever forget not to get them here: Hunan chicken included chicken, celery, broccoli tops, baby corn, mushrooms, and lots of sugar. Kung po chicken included chicken, green bell pepper, celery, large carrot chunks, broccoli “hearts” (stalk cubes), mushrooms, baby corn, lots of sugar, and peanuts. We will probably continue to try different items like wings and egg rolls because we want to support it being here.
Unfortunately the poke bowls don’t exist anymore. Generally food is good but a bit salty. Need more veggies dishes. Staff very nice and accommodating. Negatives: dishes were all plastic, no recycling seen, less salt please!
Peter Chang
The servers were okay, they were a bit rude when I dropped my lipstick (not sure why they laughed at me for that) but the food was pretty good. Some plates lacked flavor. It’s a hit or a miss, some days it’s good some days it’s bland. I wouldn’t come back here on a regular basis but only when I’m craving specific dishes I come here. Parking is difficult to find.
I've had dinner at Peter Chang's many times and tried quite a few of the menu items. The Bubble Pancake is always a good starter and the kids love it. Speaking of kids, some of the main dishes pack a spicy tongue numbing punch and children may not be ready for that. For appetizers I always get the Dry-Fried Eggplant and the Bamboo Fish. Those are both similarly seasoned with cilantro and some pretty potent hot pepper🌶️ flakes that will ruin your taste buds for the rest of the dinner if you are not careful. It's a love/ hate thing for me with the heat. Peter Chang's hot seasoning is a different kind of hot than a hot sauce. I literally couldn't taste anything after eating the Bamboo Fish (pictured) dish which I recently ordered as a meal size portion. Stick with the appetizer size portion on the Bamboo Fish. The Golden Mountain of Chicken or Mongolian Beef is very satisfying and "safe" for kids. My wife likes the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce (pictured). That's probably one of several vegetarian options. I've tasted it and it's good, but personally I wouldn't make it my main meal. All the soups I've tried are really good. The Crispy Pork Belly is delicious. Lots of menu items to explore, most with a spicy flare. Some of the original charm of Peter Chang's has worn off for me, but it's still a unique Asian style restaurant that stands out in the crowd. Service was good. The restaurant can get pretty crowded and tables are maybe a bit too close together for some who prefer more privacy.
Fat Dragon Chinese Kitchen and Bar
Been here Twice and both have been great, food is very flavorful, service is very good and they serve you very fast. They make their own chili paste oil which was perfect on the sesame shrimp. My mouth just watering by thinking of it. It was spicy but I like a good kick. It was a good portion so it we only was able to eat half and the rest was lunch. I will definitely come back for the happy hours
My partner and I stopped in while out and about to try out their happy hour. We had the pleasure of being seated with Kat. She provided amazing service and top knotch recommendations on the food. She was able to give additional information and feedback on each item we ordered which really built our confidence in the product. We had a few apps (definitely get the chili dumplings and Wonton soup). Will definitely join the rotation for best happy hours in Richmond - especially with Kat!!!!
Tops China Restaurant
Great standard Chinese food for great prices. Good portions, especially with the dinner combo. Make sure to order on their website (mealage) for the best prices. The woman who handed me my order was very nice and let me know about their website! We ordered the small chicken and broccoli, crab rangoons, and the sesame chicken dinner combo.
I’ve been ordering shrimp egg foo young all my life. From other Chinese restaurants and tops China… I’ve always received 3 shrimp egg patties with my meal no matter if it was lunch or dinner the only thing that changes is the price. I ordered from this location one of my containers had 1 pattie the other has two. I feel played I spent too much money not to receive what I was due and if it changed customers should be informed of changes so they can decide if they still want that meal. I will not be going here anymore. I know places who do 3 patties for the same price!!!
Cathay Gourmet Chinese Restaurant
Light on protein and pretty lacking in flavor. Only positives are that service is friendly and prices are good. Fried dumplings are deep fried as opposed to pan fried - to the point they are hard and very chewy. Singapore Street noodles - a dish identified as spicy on the menu had very little curry flavor at all and was definitely not spicy. There is a much better option in the shopping center across Huguenot.
BUYER BEWARE!!!! These are not the same owners from say 2000 to 2022... Those folks did right by their customers, these current folks, not so much!! The first time I experienced these folks was in early October 2024. It was evening time, maybe one other car in the parking lot. I placed my order & waited & waited .. about 20 minutes later, the woman apologizes & hands me my food. I was tired, had just gotten off of work & was anxious to get home to return to work the next day, so I was not happy with the long wait! But several weeks later, I went back. This was on a Sunday. I ordered pepper steak, dinner size. The wait was not too long. Once I got to where I was going, I began to eat. I noticed small pieces of meat, but took another couple of bites, & that's when I noticed that there was hardly any meat!! It was enough meat for 4 or 5 mouthfuls!! There was so much rice & onions left that I just looked at it & wondered what can I do with all of it. I ended up having to stop at the store to buy meat to add to the rice! Unreal!! I just called them today & told them & she made excuses, did not try to offer a half off deal or anything the next time. I told her that I would do a review & will not return!! I read some other reviews & if I saw the one about roaches, I would not have gone there in the first place!! The taste of the food is nothing to rave about anyway! This place sucks now!!!
Ting's Chinese Restaurant
This was my first time visiting this restaurant. I Searched google for restaurants near me after leaving a doctor’s appointment and this one has good reviews. I’m very selective of my Chinese restaurants and decided the reviews were good enough to trust trying a new place. The appetizer for two was good. Everything was seasoned well and tasted good. The Singapore Mei Fun tasted just as good as the one I get from my favorite spot. The Pepper Steak did not have a good ratio of steak and onions and peppers. As you can see from the picture, It was mostly peppers and onions. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t as good as the one I get from my favorite spot. The Triple Delight was also good, but was missing something that left it not as good as what I usually get. Overall, I would eat here again and try their other dishes. I ordered online and the food was ready when I arrived. Staff greeted me and the total experience was positive.
This is easily the best to-go Chinese food I've ever tasted. I would take them over PF Chang's any day. The General Tso's, both chicken and tofu, are consistently top notch: crispy outside, tender inside, and tangy sauce with the perfect bit of spice. As a bonus, the staff are incredibly friendly and the location is kept impressively clear of clutter. My new favorite take out spot.
Beijing On Grove
My wife and I recently hosted a small wedding ceremony at Beijing on Grove (first time for the restaurant), and I have to say, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From start to finish, the restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The customer service was top-notch. The staff was incredibly accommodating and made us feel right at home. The booking process for the private room was seamless. There were no minimum down payments or party size requirements, which made the whole process stress-free. We were even allowed to arrive two hours before our reservation to set up for the ceremony, which was a huge help. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious. Every dish was flavorful, and the portion sizes were generous. It was clear that the restaurant takes pride in the quality and presentation of their meals. The prices were also very reasonable for the quality of food and the experience they provided. Speaking of pricing, for a party of 8 adults and 2 kids (one being 9 and the other 1), the total bill came to around $300, which included the 20% gratuity. Considering the amount of food and the excellent service we received, it was a great value for the experience. Whether you’re planning a special event or just looking for a great place to eat, I highly recommend Beijing on Grove. The 5-star service, amazing food, and welcoming atmosphere made our day unforgettable. A truly wonderful dining experience that I’d happily revisit for any occasion!
Good service, nice patio, Costco/Trader Joe’s tasting sesame chicken. Loved the wonton soup though! My husband enjoyed the ribeye steak special. The wontons would probably be better if they arrived hot.
Yum Yum Good Chinese Restaurant
Great Chinese food. We started off with great Wanton soup (they provide great crunchy noodles). My wife had Garlic Chicken with broccoli (not on menu) and I had the Happy Family both very good. The place is very nice and the staff accommodating.
I have never seen a Chinese place that drown gravy over egg foo young. The gravy is always on the side with the option of how much you want.i have ordered egg foo young many years and never seen the option of putting gravy on egg foo young or on the side because it’s always came separate and you pour what want. This place drowned the dish. Look horrible when we open the container.. I would not recommend this place. I order 1 egg foo young and somehow the app picked up two and the restaurant was not willing to give a refund. The rice was disgusting like old rice. I thought we would try to eat the wonton soup, Kong paw shrimp, egg roll and the extra egg foo young the day. The next day but we trashed it all. I would love to post a photo that I took of the garbage but the option is not available. Terrible food. However we were turn off from the 1st egg foo young and trashed it all on Sunday.
P.F. Chang's
The food was good. The atmosphere was great. Spring rolls were not so good. Upon discussing disappointment, Restaurant did not charge us for food items. Rest of the food hit the note and was good. The chocolate cake was amazing.
Went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This was our first time here and we loved all the food and the drinks! Wish we could eat here again soon.
Empire China
Had the spare rib lunch special. Rice was very good, the egg roll good. Ribs are average. Also order the chicken pad Thai. Little to spicy for me but I can say it on par with others that I have had ( very good). Will go back again and eat there next time.
28JUNE2024 First time in here and it is a small spot in a strip mall. The restaurant inside is small and clean. The customer service was super nice and polite. The beef lo mein 🥩 was full of noodles (small than the usual noodles used in lo men, I like these)and vegetables 🥦 🧅 🍄 🥕 and a few pieces of beef. The two egg rolls were extremely greasy and had some odd red meat like bits inside. The crispy layer was a little burnt, yet still eatable.
China Fortune
Glad we were able to try this place. The sushi was good and the free chips with sweet and sour dip were a nice touch. We sat at the bar which is nice. The place appeared to be a little empty for 5:30. A ton of carry outs! We would go back and try more rolls. Only one thing we didn’t care for was the steamed dumplings. A few beers and rolls ran us about $60 which is on par.
This restaurant has gone way downhill over the years. Tonight’s food was inedible. We ate here a few months ago and had a similar experience but wanted to give them one more chance since it used to be one of our favorites. Pad Thai was a lump of flavorless mush. Wontons so overcooked there wasn’t any crab left inside. Crispy beef was soggy and SALTY. Egg rolls greasy and undercooked. Even the wonton soup noodles tasted old. They got my $60 tonight but never again.
Jin Yuan
It was just "ok". My chicken was pretty dry. I've also never been to any Chinese food restaurant that didn't include sweet and sour sauce with fried wontons. I didn't realize that until I got home. I was not very happy with that. Prices were average and so was the food and service.
As someone who works here I like the food. But I can say that the atmosphere is very bland and the service we do can be better. Note: there are some reviews that are literally not for this place. Someone decided to give us a three star and say we serve black pepper chicken and I hate it because at least once per a day someone calls and ask for black pepper chicken. Some idiot said that this place is a sad nail salon which it isn’t because that is our neighbor.
