Sichuan Restaurant
Awesome food and the host up front did a great job checking in on us throughout dinner. I’m putting the atmosphere at 5 stars as well because how can you not enjoy the wall mounted fireplace TV and soft ambient jazz music. Will definitely be coming back for takeout in the future!
The food was fresh, very flavorful, and authentic! Being that I grew up on homemade Asian food, I am now a picky eater when it comes to it! This meal gets my approval! I ordered the Vietnamese pork and egg roll vermicelli salad & an order of egg rolls. So so so good! Also the service was friendly and fast. I would recommend!!
Jin's Chow Mein
I used to get take out here years ago when I lived in the area. Decided to stop in as I remembered it was good. Was greeted warmly. I had some questions about ingredients and the young man was more than willing to look up ingredient labels for me to verify. Quite accommodating. We ordered pork fried rice, Curry beef and barbecue pork appetizer. The curry beef was excellent, quite delicious. I'm already planning a return trip for more in the future. The barbecue pork appetizer was not quite like I remember it. I remember caramelized pieces of barbecue pork. This was barbecue pork in a sauce. It was good, just not as good as I remember it. The pork fried rice contained pieces of pork that were closer. Prices are excellent. No price gouging here. My total was under $20. However, be prepared to bring cash as they don't have a card machine or Google/Apple pay. I will definitely be back again.
This is the worst $9 I ever spendt in my life. Food was so horrible and chewy I couldn't even eat it. Cheese Wontons were like rocks because of how hard they were. Sesame chicken didnt have any flavor and was chewy. Rice was typical. Im so disappointed!!
China Star
Greeted warmly at the door. We had ordered on line and I was a little early. The cuisine was prepared to order and was still properly warm once I got it back tobthe hotel. Portion sizes were too huge. There was enough for at least two or three people for each order. Sweet and sour sauce was delicious. Chicken with cashews and shrimp dish was fantastic. Little hole in the wall place certainly met and actually exceeded our expectations.
The food is good here but the location is a little small if you tried to bring a family it would fill up fast. The food is worth it though, if you don't need a lot of flavor. The flavor it muted but delicious all the same. There are drawings hung on the wall by children that make it feel more homey.
Keng's Chow Mein
This is for a delivery order. Food was good! The appetizer tray isn’t bad, I’d pick just the chicken wings out of the mix though to get again. The wonton soup has veggies and pork added which is a nice touch, the broth is flavorful and the dumplings are great. The chicken chow mein is a solid classic comfort dish and the Singapore chow mein with shrimp was good. I mixed the veggies and shrimp and sauce with the noodles to have a lo mein type meal of it and added soy sauce for flavoring. It all hit the spot for a classic Americanized Chinese meal without skimping on quality/flavor
I've been going here 30 plus years. Not many restaurants survive 30 years. A few things you should know about this place: It's called "Keng's Chow Mein", which means you should get the Chow Mein. I don't generally like Chow Mein, maybe you don't like Chow Mein either, but you should still get the Chow Mein. The fried rice is bland, but that's okay, it tastes great mixed with the Chow Mein. Egg rolls are good, chicken wings are good, but again get the Chow Mein and then experiment with the rest of the menu. It says that you can dine in, and I have seen people do that, but it's frowned upon. This is a take out place. If you insist on eating there don't expect service. Even if you pick up the food, don't expect service. More than once I've stood there for ten minutes plus waiting for someone to come to the desk. They don't care, they will get to you when they get to you. Think the soup guy from Seinfeld. Buy the big containers, you're gonna want leftovers.
Yu Fong
After reading recent reviews I was a bit hesitant to try this place - but what most had in common were that they were disappointed it's not the same food as with previous owners. I was staying at a nearby hotel for business, so gave them a try and I'm glad I did. The food overall was good, not perfect but much better than other fast food or quick Chinese restraunts. The worke was helpful in making my selections. The sesame chicken seemed a bit overcooked and over oiled but the sauce was good. The beef and broccoli also had a good amount of both broccoli and beef, which other places usually leave it lacking in one or the other. I really did like the bamboo shoots in it. And the beef Lo Mein was my least favorite with the beef being a bit dried out but I still enjoyed it - and would 100% order again without a protein instead. The white rice that comes with the entrees was basic but good and what is expected. I under estimated the amount of food I was going to get, so have eaten it for 4 meals and still have leftovers - it is also heating up well.
We catered here for our company lunch party on Friday ordering a dozen trays of food. The staff gave great feedback on the food and the service was timely.
New Asian Ju Yuan
I got sesame chicken. He got GenTsao combo. Both were sub par. He got a big ball of connected chicken pieces which you can't help but wonder if it got to temperature for food safety. My chicken tasted freezer burnt. He said his just tasted stale. I think they are the same chicken though. It was definitely chewy, as if it was overdone or just past is prime before it was even cooked. Rice was good. He also was lacking in any sauce on the bottom of the container. Fried rice was alright. His wontons were both crispy and soggy/greasy, but the dog liked them. I couldn't eat my food. I spit out both the broccoli and the chicken and ate just the white rice. We will not be returning.
The food is edible for me. Not good as this is not my taste. The chicken wing is taste so different than my usual chicken sauce I order from other place. Guess it is just depends on how people liking the tastes. The fried clear noodle also not tastes good to my preference. But like I said, everyone has their own preference taste so tried for yourself. But for me, not going to come for second time. The service is good. No dine in spot.
Tri's Wok
This was the second time I have ordered take out from this place and the second completely disgusting experience. The first time I wanted a quick snack and got some Vietnamese egg rolls. They were barely warm and so dry, it blew my mind how that combo could happen. I chalked it up to a bad night to give the benefit of the doubt. Went there again today for a snack and both items were inedible. The cranberry cream cheese wontons were fried within an inch of their life to the point where the filling was gelatinous. The fried potstickers were luke-warm and the dough was tough and gummy. I do not understand how this place has above a 4 star rating.
Ordered sweet &sour pork, usually get pineapple & green pepper with it. Not from this place. Wonton and egg rolls were way over cooked until hard. I won't be ordering from here anymore. Place is nothing like it used to be.
Teahouse
We got dim sum here, there weren’t as many options as some restaurants; however, they also had so many entree options and other Chinese food. They have a lunch buffet Monday-Friday. Dim sum took around 15 minutes to come out and each dish was like 5-7$. Shown below: Egg Tart, Sticky Rice, Shrimp Dumplings, Egg Rolls, Scallion Pancakes
Good quality food , with vegetarian options. We had 1st birthday party of grandson. Great service with smiles and tasty food.
Big Bowl Ridgedale
Wait staff is so friendly & accommodating. She even allowed me to change my tuna poke bowl to salmon. Food is excellent!
Very good food. Chicken Satay is very flavorful. Stir-fry bar has some great options. Our server, Crystal, was totally on top of every need and request. Would eat here again. Gets pretty noisy when busy.
Plymouth Garden
Ever since the new owners have taken over, I’ve seen several changes that have taken place many of them, not good. They’ve changed the ingredients. The noodles are thicker in the lo mein. I’ve been eating here for 20+ years. I’d liked the new online ordering but now if you order at a certain time it sits and it’s cold by the time you pick it up it’s in in the front and it’s not even hot when you pick it up . It used to be Super hot when we picked it up and that’s what I liked about it. It’s just not the same.
Tried this place for the first time going off their 4 star reviews. Got my food sesame chicken, there is way more breading than chicken in each peice. I'd prefer to get actual chucks of chicken inside the breading, not a thin strip. They were extra crispy making it hard to eat, and just not enjoyable. The sauce was good. Fried rice tasted luke oil and was very dry. Spring rolls were the worst I've had, not flavorful, more soggy and oily than crispy. If this use to be a great place, it sadly is no longer. I guess I'll just go to panda express next time.
China House
Sunday visit with our son and our KU/Lawrence go-to for “Chinese/Oriental” food was CLOSED. Looking at all the available options, this place had about as many reviews as the others. It’s usually a roll of the dice when trying to make an informed decision based on reviews. To be clear, we never review POSH dining spots - not our lane. So when it’s asking for atmosphere, this place looks as any other restaurant you are expecting serving this type of food - traditionally a take-out/delivery cuisine. But now what we all want to know - what about the food?? Good portions for the $ spent. Freshly cooked made it across from West Lawrence to son’s school apartment and it was as awesome as it looked, HOT & FRESH. Looking back, almost all the NEGATIVE reviews for this spot were 5 years old or older so don’t let them deter you from giving this place a visit. And your to go order comes inside a nicely designed marketing carry sack!! Happy eating!
I've ordered from here before and it's always been great but my delivery order tonight was definitely off. Sesame chicken was a weird color and tasted more like honey mustard. Crab rangoons were just plain cream cheese. This is very odd from my normal experience from this place. Not sure if they are having a supply issue or changed recipes. It was edible just not exactly normal. Staff is always nice though.
Fortune Palace
Great food! And value as well. It's nice to see a buffet. Seems like alot of them have shut since covid. 3 of us all enjoyed it very much.
I was pleasantly surprised! The buffet was amazing. So much was available on 5 tables for me to choose from. It was hard to know where to start; with salad items or dive into an entree. I chose to take a dive. My taste buds were also pleased! Something that surprised me was that it wasn't crowded on a Sunday. This place should be a 1st pick for Sunday lunch. Fortune Palace is a secret TOO well kept. You have got to try Fortune Palace. It should not be a well-kept secret!
