Haidilao Hot Pot San Diego
Amazing First Visit – Warm, Memorable, and Exceptional! We visited HaiDiLao in San Diego for the first time, and it left us with an incredibly warm and impressive experience! The food was fresh and delicious, the service was attentive and thoughtful, and the environment was clean and cozy—everything made us feel right at home. What truly stood out was the exceptionally caring service, which we’ll never forget. We’ll definitely be back! A special thank you to Dena, our San Diego graduate server, for her professional and heartwarming service—she truly made our visit extra special. And big thanks to Paul at the entrance for his humor and welcoming vibe—you both added so much joy to our meal! Thank you, HaiDiLao San Diego, for such a wonderful dining experience!
We visited Haidilao Chinese Hotpot early in the day, and while it wasn't too busy yet, there were still 4-5 tables occupied. I’ve been to this location twice before—once in the evening, where I encountered a long wait and had to order drinks at the bar. So, I decided to come early this time to avoid the crowds. I loved everything my colleagues ordered, and it was the perfect day for hotpot given the rainy weather! The staff were friendly and helpful, which enhanced our experience. The restaurant itself is convenient, clean, and beautifully decorated. While it is a bit pricey, the quality of the ingredients justifies the cost. I think it's worth it to visit once in a while for a treat!
Din Tai Fung
We celebrated my wife’s birthday here. Except for the wait time, everything else was great. It was our first time visiting and each dish was an adventure. The servers were quite nice and accommodating. The menu is straightforward especially with the digital version that has all the info and pictures. Drinks were also tasty and playful👌. Highly recommend. A potential tip would just to add yourself to the online waitlist about 3 hours ahead of the time you want to visit and you should be good to go
This Taiwanese restaurant is very popular, so be prepared for a long wait! They don’t take reservations, but you can sign up for the waiting list either at the store or online. The usual wait time is a couple of hours, but since it’s located in a shopping mall, I recommend signing up and exploring the mall while you wait. One of the highlights is the dumpling-making show—you can watch the chefs prepare dumplings through a big clear window, which adds to the experience. I tried the soup dumplings (xiao long bao), and they were excellent—juicy and flavorful. The fried rice, however, could have used a bit more salt and pepper. As for the noodles, I had a minced beef one this time, but I’m curious to try the spicy version next time. Overall, it’s a great spot for authentic Taiwanese food, just make sure you plan ahead for the wait!
P.F. Chang's
Just kinda gross. Ordered the Korean fried chicken on the bone with dipping sauce. It came with unlabeled squeeze bottles of what tasted like sauces they just put on other things, none tasted good for chicken. Biting into the chicken itself was a nightmare. None of the three large pieces were identifiable parts of a chicken like you would get in a KFC bucket. It looked like someone took a cleaver to a chicken blindfolded. Over half of it was completely inedible fried gristle (the picture is what was LEFT. If I wasn’t at a big family dinner I would have refused to pay for it. The other food at the table was pretty mediocre. The carelessness of the pan-Asian decorations is laughable. In one picture I managed to capture a crappy, fake bonsai tree, a Thai Buddha head, a Chinese Taoist gong and two paintings designed by someone with no knowledge of the Japanese language using a translator app lazily (the “way of the Samurai isn’t 侍の道 it’s 武士道). Service was fine. The very existence of this restaurant is an affront to good taste, in both senses. I could only imagine going there if you were staying at the hotel next door. But even if you are, go somewhere else. If you want crappy Chinese food, save some money and door dash Panda Express.
My family and I are regular customers of PF Chang's, enjoying both dine-in and takeout experiences across various locations. However, our recent visit to the La Jolla Village, San Diego restaurant was unfortunately a significant letdown. We ordered our usual dishes: shrimp fried rice, honey chicken, and kids' orange chicken with fried rice. While my family's meals arrived without issue, the shrimp fried rice I received was concerning. The rice grains were excessively hard and dry, almost as if they were undercooked. When we brought this to the attention of our server, they promptly offered to remake the dish. However, the second serving was equally problematic, appearing excessively wet and soupy, almost as if it had been washed. Upon informing our server about this issue, we were told that both orders of rice were from the same batch. This seemed unlikely given that my family's rice was cooked correctly. The manager offered to remake the dish again, but at that point, our appetite had been completely diminished. We were disappointed with this experience, especially considering our consistent patronage of PF Chang's. We hope this feedback is taken seriously to improve the quality and consistency of your food preparation.
Fan-Fan
The best Chinese restaurant on campus, and it was an incredible experience! The food was delicious, with a great variety of authentic dishes. The customer service was outstanding; the staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome. The service was impressively fast, making it perfect for a quick, satisfying meal between classes. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for amazing food and a pleasant dining experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!
They've gone through various pricing methods since they've opened. The current one (third version?) is certainly better than the previous one with the pre made bowls because now you can just pick and choose what you want, and they price you based on the weight, Yogurt World style. I have no idea what $0.79 per ounce means, so I tried to be conservative with what I got, but it ended up being $11 anyways. It wasn't super filling. I like that they have rice bowls for $1, two for $1.5. I like rice, and dining halls don't give a decent amount of good rice, so this is passable. There was a free food event with food from Fan Fan, but I didn't see many of the meat options I saw there. Whatever, maybe my eyes are bad. The orange chicken is nice and sweet and I also like the saltiness of the white fish and the mapo tofu is good too. What's truly interesting, though, is their midnight menu. I have yet to try it, but from what I observed and what other people there told me, it's a build your own hot pot where they charge based on the weight of the dry ingredients before they add soup. You put the ingredients in a wiped down bowl and then you wait with a buzzer until they add soup to it. It's $9.99/lb and I don't think I would get a pound of noodles, so this sets an upper limit of $10, which sounds like a great deal. I'll try it someday Also, why does Fan Fan have a sketch 3d concept art rendering of their place as a photo for this place 💀
Panda Express
I love the Panda Express at the Poway Rd location! No matter how crowded they are (peak dining times), their staff always has it together and serves customer orders fluidly and at a quick and efficient pace. Their cooks so a great job preparing every menu item and keeping the trays of food full. Excellent teamwork!
I absolutely love this place! The service was great and the food was fresh. I like everything about panda except they raised the price of the plate a bit. Maybe they could have one plate the "special of the week" with a special price. They could advertise it on the window and change signs or just put the special of the week sign next to the item so people will go in to find it.
City Dragon Chinese Food
good food, good service and clean place. good lunch special prices BUT the fried rice portion is too small, even for a child 😉…
Seriously a gem! I've stopped in and ordered eggrolls preciously but today I ordered lunch. The lunch special is quite a meal. Try the Shrimp Chowmein it comes with fried rice, 2 fried wontons and an eggroll. Wow was it tasty, so savory and fresh. Amazing! They are so friendly, highly recommend!
369 Ramen. Poke .Chinese Cusine
Wow, great 369 poke food, great experience! Came here for quick grub one afternoon for lunch and ordered 2 medium bowls. The service was friendly, fast and efficient! You get to choose your base, then toppings etc, but the choices are much better than many of the other poke places. And this place is generous with the fish portions and the fish quality was very good! The ingredients are fresh and tasted delicious! First scoop of avocado is included which is awesome!! Really good portion sizes also. Love it! Highly recommend!
Come here at least twice a week for a medium bowl of Poke. Ingredients are always fresh and delicious, and staff are very friendly. If you’re looking for a great spot for some healthy Japanese food this is it! [强]
Quick Wok
Best Orange Chicken at Quik Wok – Pure Nostalgia! Quik Wok is hands down the best spot for orange chicken, and it’s been my go-to for years. Men and his family truly have their food down to a science, and every dish is cooked to perfection. I’ve been eating here since elementary school, and the orange chicken has never disappointed—it’s always crispy, tangy, and packed with flavor. Every bite takes me back and fills me with nostalgia. The consistency, quality, and flavor are unmatched, and it's clear they pour their heart into every meal. Thank you, Men and family, for making such amazing food year after year. Here’s to many more meals and happy memories. Happy New Year! 🤘🏻
Just tried this place for the first time. Food is really good! Small Mom and Pop shop. Definitely recommend. Service was great, they were very friendly and quick. Bomb food. Try it!
Thai Table Time
Overall it was a very good experience. Food was delicious and flavorful. However, a bit spicy for us. May be when ordering, give 1-2 points lower than your usual spice level. We tried Penang curry, papaya salad and summer rolls. Staff was attentive and addressed our concerns/questions in a considerate way.
Great service, vivid flavors, and wide variety. Cozy and casual atmosphere that resonates with friendliness. Love the Panang Curry. For the heat lovers, their spiciness level 10 packs a solid punch of spice and flavor. Excellent. Wonderful spring rolls, both fresh and fried. Need more visits to start a full menu crawl. Don't miss out.
Pho Oceanside
My girlfriend and I were in the Oceanside area looking for a welcoming Pho restaurant. We chose Pho Oceanside due to its 4.5-star rating, which typically suggests high customer satisfaction. Having tried other Pho spots for both enjoyment and critique, I was genuinely disappointed with our meals here. I ordered the Rare Steak and Tendon Pho, while my girlfriend requested Pho with only tendons and an extra serving of tendons. They initially brought her the wrong dish, including Rare Steak, even though she had specifically asked for tendons only. My dish also contained minimal amounts of rare steak and tendons, despite our request for extra tendons. She also mentioned that one of the spoons had an odd bleach-like taste. Additionally, the waiter never checked on us, and the atmosphere felt unwelcoming and strange. Overall, it seems that many restaurants we visit lately are struggling to provide positive experiences for customers. Honest reviews only. Overall, for the price we paid, quality and quantity of food, professionalism of the staff, and atmosphere, I will rate this establishment 1.5 Star rating.
I’ve tried many different Pho restaurants and all I’m going to say is this pho is “On Point!” All spots typically treat you the same, but if the pho is good then who cares. Recommendations: P4 and combo fried rice, has that nice charred flavor.
Dija Mara
The grilled eggplant was my favorite, it was crazy savory and had a generous blanket of crisped shallots. The curry dip that came with the roti was so good, it had a nice kick to it- we wished the dish came with slightly more of that.
Holy moly this food is amazing. Every single plate we tried was delicious and we all raved about every plate. The ceviche, to the eggplant, to the coconut fried chicken. The place is on the pricier side (compared to other regular restaurants in the area-- but this is no regular restaurant!) as the plates are tapas style and meant to be family style and shared but they are all quite small which left us wanting MORE! but for the quality and taste and top tier everything, I get it and will be back!
Fat Joe’s O’side
Nice arcade selection, got the dry mix wings and bbq with tots. Everything was cooked perfectly, most places the wings are over cooked and are top dry to eat before you have your last wings. Family friendly environment with large dining area friendly staff.
The food was great i had the cali burrito and carne Asada was good, kids had fun with the games. They were about a $1 each which was reasonable. They had an atm, make change and coin for bills.
