Came here to get some sushi for lunch the pricing was outstanding and the quality was top notch atmosphere was very cozy staff was accommodating and everything was fresh and delicious. Happy to have found this little spot look forward to coming back again in the future

Unfortunately this restaurant has not impressed me and I would call it mediocre. As much as I don’t want to say it, I wouldn’t recommend it if you are wanting authentic Chinese food. I moved nearby and was hoping it was going to become a staple. I’ve been twice and both times were a let down. They serve 2 cuisines as the name implies instead of focusing on one and I think suffers from this. The Sushi is a little better than their Chinese food. The sushi is okay, but not great. I had the Alaskan Maki and the rice starting to fall off and it was not tightly wrapped. The crab rangoons were okay, but came with a sauce that was not good. It was not a sweet and sour which you typically get, but was a white sauce that was overly sweet with not much flavor. The Beef with Eggplant in Garlic Sauce had a basic sauce that tasted like it could have been from a bottle. The Szechuan Style Bean Curd in Spicy Sauce wasn’t very good. The waitress told me it was similar to mapo tofu (which I love) which it didn’t taste anything like. It had a really strange flavor that is hard to describe. The shrimp in the dried sauteed shrimp was good but not very spicy and the crispy rice it came on was interesting and had a texture similar to packing peanuts. It could have used a sauce or something else added to it because it was very dry. Overall, the food seems tailored to an American audience and wasn’t very flavorful. If you are wanting authentic Chinese food nearby I would recommend Shaanxi Gourmet or Sichuan Gourmet. If you want Sushi, it’s okay, but it wasn't the highest quality.

I tried this place based off the ratings and I was sadly let down. I do not know if today was an off day for the cooks but the food was not good at all. I spent over $30 and it was greasy and flavorless. I didn't think that was possible but today it was. Even the chicken wings had no flavor. I just do not understand. The duck sauce was sour. (Not sure if it was sitting out too long but it was awful😞) I love dark sticky rice so I was excited when saw it originally but is was gross and greasy. I would rather pay more for better quality.

Great service good food good people serving up classic Chinese food. If ur craving some affordable Chinese food. Quick and easy come here great family business Joy luck.

Ownership change is always a mixed bag. I could do with the change in service, ambiance and just about everything else. What I can't accept ever is the change of food flavors and quality that was the initial reason I became a frequent regular. I found out about the transition and kept up my visits and support hoping the dishes I frequented would remain the same. It didn't. It really changed quite a bit. No, I don't blame them for applying their spin on the dishes. But don't expect me to forgive a lot of culinary mistakes that your predecessor perfected. I actually updated this review because I can't keep a 5 star review on a place that I once frequented often that I now decided I'd never return to after the repeated mishaps again, and again, and again. I wish your family the best and hope for the best. But objectively, you can't just buy a place that had culinary excellence and succeed without being of the same caliber - or at least show that you're trying to be there. Cheers. —————-(Previous Review)———- As the hunt for the familiar continues, my list in Boston continues to slowly grow with fine additions that port me back to specific aspects of childhood. Some very directly, some of a windy nature, but all in all, they all lead back home one way or the other. Here at Home Taste, I found that to be of the latter. It isn't exactly the same as my childhood but the flavors lead in all the right directions. There is a slightly different preparation (as expected of regional differences) but it sure packs the flavors that you'd hope for when the name literally means "flavors of home" (obviously for those of some form of Chinese descent). From the first time to many visits after the move here, it has become a truly comforting spot whenever I am hungry. The menu is extensive (as expected) so I'm only starting to grasp the varied flavors they have to offer. Yet, so far, it has already become quite safe to say that their food is legit and their prices are really cheap for what they offer (especially in this area and considering the current inflation that continues to drive everything up so much). They seem best known for their hand pulled noodles that either are the standard wide/flat or thin/round that come with varied finishing preparations. What really stunned me was the noodles seared in hot chili oil. The amount of flavor, the chewiness of the noodles, the fragrance of raw minced garlic and acidic notes ported me back several decades back into an earlier childhood. It was so good that I had to come back again the next day for it. I really don't think I need to elaborate more. As for the service, they are actually remarkably friendly. Something you'd never expect from a Chinese place on average. They operate like a genuine mom-pop shop: gentle in the way they approach and speak, patient when explaining things (noticed this especially with the varied diners here), and never at any point rushing you to finish and get out. It's like you're REALLY welcome here and they just want to feed you and keep you warm. I have become a solid fan of this little casual diner and know that I'll always come back at least a few times a month to experience home flavors from a different angle.

The spicy hot oil hand pulled noodles are my favorite. They are absolutely amazing and I’ve tried them at many different restaurants and these are my favorite. The noodles are chewy and fresh and it’s spicy but not too spicy and so flavorful. Their cumin lamb sandwiches, dumplings, and noodles with soy sauce and pickled cucumber (N18 on the menu) were also amazing

My favorite dim sum. I would travel all the way from NYC to here. That’s how much I love this place. Food is great and service is fast and good. Affordable price with high quality ingredients.

Food was really good and with big portions! Service was slow, not enough servers. The whole building looks like it has not seen renovations in 3 decades.

Worth visiting if you are looking for Taiwanese dim sum. There’s not that many options in the menu, but overall everything was great. Can’t wait to be back to try their other dishes!

The beef rolls and sliced pig ears are really delicious—I recommend giving them a try! However, the service is a bit slow, and the prices are on the higher side.

I love this place, the food is very good I especially love the sweet and sour chicken and the teriyaki chicken. The parking is tight though, so be prepared to maybe walk a bit. The owners of the restaurant are incredibly nice and great to talk to. I always have a smile on my face here. I highly recommend if you want some great asain food! We will be back again that's for sure.

If you're looking for a solid, reliable Chinese takeout/delivery spot, you have to give Number 1 taste a try! You will not be disappointed and you'll wish you had found it sooner! Number 1 Taste is a local American-style Chinese food takeout/delivery spot. I stumbled across the place one evening looking for delivery on UberEats. Given the mediocre reviews for spots in Waltham, I was thrilled to see I was able to get Number 1 Taste delivered all the way from Watertown. I wish I had found them sooner! The portions here are extremely generous. The food is always delivered piping hot, fresh, and packaged perfectly. Our orders are always spot-on, five stars. Consistency is also on-point from order to order. The quality of the food is also a major step above most spots in the area and downtown Boston. The proteins are always tender and fresh, no chewy mystery meat or old-tasting beef! The vegetables also appear to be fresh, not frozen like most spots use. You'll find the flavors of the food is comforting, familiar, and satisfying without feeling thirsty afterwards. That is the major difference I noticed after the first order. It isn't loaded full of salt or overloaded with MSG. The best bang for the buck here is the combination plates. For around $12.95 you get an entree, an appetizer of your choice, and pork fried rice or white rice. When they say an appetizer of your choice, they mean three-four crab rangoons! It is an unbeatable value! The pork fried rice is just right, not too oily or greasy. Massive chunks of tender BBQ pork. It is probably the best fried rice I've had anywhere in Boston. Hands down. I have tried several of the combination plates and I am never disappointed. Notable favorites are the Chicken Egg Foo Young and Beef and Vegetable. If you are like me, you always get an appetizer to go with the meal. The shining star is the Peking Ravioli. I always order them pan-fried. The Peking Ravioli appear to be hand-made. They are a solid size, plump and filled with pork and vegetable. The dipping sauce served on the side is the perfect accompaniment! They are very generous in terms of portion size. I usually eat four with my meal and warm up the other four for lunch the next day! If you're looking for a lighter start to your meal, I strongly suggest the House Special Soup. The portion size is generous, plenty for two people to split! If you love noodles like me, you'll love the Lo Mein! I've ordered the Chicken Lo Mein and it was filled with carrots, onions, and snow peas. The Chicken is melt-in-your mouth tender. The noodles are made in the wok just right, not too soft/mushy/overcooked. Not too oily or greasy, like many places! Our favorite entrees to split are the Happy Family, Beef and Vegetable, Shrimp with Vegetables, Shrimp Egg Foo Young, and the Orange Chicken. The Happy Family is our favorite. Loaded with beef, chicken, and shrimp. And I am talking full size shrimp, not tiny salad shrimp other spots use. The Beef and Chicken are so tender they melt in your mouth. The dish was absolutely overflowing with tons of fresh vegetables. The sauce/gravy was just right, flavorful without being overly salty. Consistency of the sauce is spot on, not too runny or thick. The quality of ingredients is most obvious ordering this house speciality. This is our go-to spot in Boston and the surrounding area. The quality of ingredients truly shines in every dish we have ordered and enjoyed. The portions are extremely generous and we love ordering sometimes twice a week due to the value. The portions and prices are just right! Our orders are always delivered piping hot and packaged right. Example: They package the hot gravy/sauce for the egg foo young separately so it doesn't leak everywhere. Common sense many places don't pay attention too. Keep up the amazing ingredients, food, prices, and service! You have a lifelong customer with me! My only suggestions for improvement would be to offer almond cookies as a dessert option. I'd also LOVE to see a combination or "house" Egg Foo Young!

Chicken lo mein is mid, but the scallion pancakes are fresh and crispy, and Rick serves a stiff SB, but I love this place for more than its good and reasonably priced fare. There’s a certain curb appeal that comes from having no windows that more modern establishments are still struggling to grasp. Rick is the most gracious host/server/bartender, and I welcome any additional business in his direction even if it’s just to hear his genuine, “You’re welcome,” each and every time you politely thank him for something. It’s fun to go for some drinks with a few friends when it’s dead, and fun to go to celebrate your birthday when it’s popping. Give it a whirl!

From the moment you step inside, you're reminded of the old school American Chinese restaurant, where it's very casual, place for locals to gather and hang out, eat and drink Mai tais. There aren't many of these spots around, so very happy there is one locally and it hits the spot. The owner is very friendly and everyone there seems to know her and she knew their names. This is a no frill place, hole in the wall, no windows. We got an appetizer combo, chicken wings, beef Chow mein (not to be confused with lo mein or stir fried noodles) and sweet and Sour pork (this is not the typical current Chinese restaurant sweet and Sour pork in bright red sauce. This is chicken fingers battered pork with sauce drizzled over). Everything tasted good and brought back childhood memories.

Spicy aromatic duck blood! It is super chewy like rubber. Look at the video for the texture. Never experienced this with true duck blood

Their food is delicious, but, Be aware of their fraud charge! they added unauthorized extra on my total ($58.22 to $61) and hope I don’t notice. they do shady business. Avoid this restaurant, at least save your receipt and check your credit card posting if you have to eat here.

I’m visiting and this was my first time tasting bland food in Boston. I got the tropical chicken. It’s on the stir fried section of the menu, but it tastes as if it’s been sitting in a pot all day. I should have known when the person who took my order said the food would take 10 minutes, but it only took 2. The pineapples were almost flavorless and the chicken and cashews were way too soft to have been stir fried. Would not come here again.

Best Chinese and Thai restaurant around Watertown.

The food is great and tastes very fresh. Not your typical Chinese food. Our server was very polite and kind. Would definitely return. We got the general tso’s and sesame chicken. Food came quickly and with great presentation.

Best pei king ravioli I’ve had in 20 years, perhaps the best spare ribs in the game, and excellent service. We took a bunch home too

In 30 some years of eating at Chinese restaurants, this is the first that makes it easy for non Chinese speaking people to order authentic Chinese food. I strongly recommend the dry cauliflower with garlic. I know, who goes to Chinese restaurants to eat cauliflower? But it is one of the best dishes.

Restaurant has a clean inviting atmosphere. Dining area is set separately from the bar and has cool lighting without windows to create a relaxed atmosphere. My waitress was very friendly, and she did a great job. The menu has New England style Chinese food, it is heavy with authentic original dishes and they also have some Japanese. Started with a hot and sour soup. It had nice complex flavors, the right thickness and the heat you would expect from an authentic restaurant. It was delicious. American Chinese pork fried rice and shrimp with lobster sauce were definitely on point. Rice was full of pork giving it a great flavor. A little egg and it would be perfect, absolutely no complaints though. Shrimp with lobster sauce was also nicely done. The shrimp were fresh and cooked right so they were tender. They do a nice job on the lobster sauce creating flavors without a ton of sodium. My two favorite dishes were off the authentic side. Crispy rice with mixed mushrooms. Amazing dish! Picture what looks like a bunch of rice crispy squares, covered in different mushrooms and a few other veggies in a bowl. My waitress poured a boiling broth over it when served. The rice in little chunks with crispy pieces was divine. For dessert I had the crispy milk curd. These little fingers of deliciousness were crispy on the outside with a warm, lightly sweet, custard style filling. So good! Definitely worth checking it out!

I walked by a few times before I decided to try this place. I am from Hong Kong. 雲南米線 was everywhere but I had never tried. So, I decided to try it in the US. I ordered their standard rice noodle with brisket. The flavor was good. It arrived very quickly. I also ordered preserved eggs and was flavorful. The drink was also good, not super sweet. Definitely will go back next time I am in the area.

I ordered the chicken curry, and while it was edible, the dish was more disappointing than enjoyable. The flavors were underwhelming, and it didn’t meet my expectations. Additionally, the staff wasn’t particularly helpful, which made the experience less pleasant. The atmosphere was decent, but overall, I wouldn’t be eager to return based on this visit.
