Yu Noodles
I remember a time when all my friends and family raving about the original Yu Noodles in Fairfax. We all tried that and loved the place because that was the only spot we had a few years back that offered that kind of flavor in the area. Now, there have been a bunch of similar places popping up, how does this Yu Noodles in Herndon fare? Pretty average if I have to be honest from the food, the staff, to the décor. I came with a big group and we shared bites. I wasn't wowed by any of the options. Maybe I've become too sensitized or the place is average. Was it bad? No, not at all. It's not memorable to me taste-wise. We ordered soup dumplings, spicy wontons, dried beef noodles, intestine noodles, sour soup-based beef noodles, and fish noodles. None of them stood out to me. The spicy wonton was probably the best one out of them. Even then, I could kind of tell the texture of the wonton was slightly off like it had been in the water too long or like it was pre-boiled and re-boiled before serving. Don't get me wrong though, this place isn't bad at all. If you're feeling authentic Chinese noodles and you don't feel like driving far, it's a decent option.
Having come here several times now, I think this place is definitely good, although some of the dishes are hit or miss. I love that the scallion pancake is fried extremely crispy and the special dry noodle is absolutely delicious. The soup dumplings are fairly good, but I haven’t been super impressed with a soup noodle yet, and I have tried four of the soup noodles. They are decent, but nothing that stands out to me like the dry noodles have. Staff is friendly and the environment is very cute.
You Like Skewers
We went back here for the second time and dry pot. It’s basically choose your own ingredients and then pay by weight. They have a huge selection of things to add and everything looked super fresh. I got mine the spiciest level and it was pretty spicy but not unbearable at all for me, a spice queen. My SO got medium spicy which I would say is like “American spicy.” Definitely check this place out to try dry pot also called 麻辣香锅 if you wanna google what it is.
I had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The place was spotless and maintained impeccable hygiene, which immediately gave me a great impression. The food was incredibly authentic, bursting with flavor, and truly lived up to its reputation. On top of that, the staff provided excellent service—they were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant and can’t wait to visit again!
Szechuan Star
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve had lunch at Szechuan Star a few times and have also ordered takeout many times, and I have nothing but great things to say about this place. The food and service have always been top-notch, never disappointing. It’s a small restaurant, but it’s clean and cozy, with a welcoming atmosphere. The staff is friendly and always goes above and beyond, paying attention to every detail to ensure customers are happy. The food is consistently delicious, and the prices are unbeatable, especially with their lunch specials. For anyone local, this spot is a must-try if you’re craving flavorful Chinese food with excellent service!
Great local spot that we happened to stop by at. We were the only ones inside and were treated amazingly. We were started with roasted salted peanuts and tea and then we both did the dinner special which was an absolute steal at around $15. We had the wonton soup and egg drop soup followed by the orange chicken and chicken lo mein, which both came with either a choice of an egg roll or veggie spring roll. They were very kind and also brought us both a small donut and orange slice at the end too. Overall a great big delicious meal for a great price!
Hunan Kitchen
A few days ago, my husband and I went grocery shopping, and by lunchtime, we decided to grab a quick bite at a small restaurant hunankitchen nearby. We kept it simple and ordered two dishes—one chicken vegetable and one beef vegetable —served with fried rice and a spring roll. The service was impressively quick, and the food was fresh and delicious. The portions were very generous—one plate was more than enough for one person, leaving us completely satisfied. What stood out was how reasonably priced everything was, making it a great value for money. It was the perfect spot for a quick, hearty, and affordable lunch. Definitely a hidden gem worth revisiting!
Lots of choices on the menu, including combination specials available every day. I got a large portion of Roast Pork Lo Mein for only $9.99 with a refreshing Red Tea Boba. Very nice and friendly staff.
Wok 'N Roll Chinese Cafe
Best in town. Been coming here for many years. Everything is made from scratch and fresh. My favorite Imperial Shrimp is a must! Everyone is very nice and the service is excellent.
Great option for a quick meal with excellent food for under $20! I recommend interpreting the lunch/dinner portions as a small/medium size plate; the dinner size was perfect for me!
Chopsticks
The quantity & quality declined than previous years. It was one of our family favorites but not any more. The service is always the best though
Ordered two dinner meals for take out. Once I got home I found only two soy sauce packets, two duck sauce packets, and one hot mustard packet. The fried rice consisted of soy sauce and zero fried egg even though I paid the up charge for fried rice. Ordered two spring rolls but didn’t receive any additional sauce. For paying $38 I’m disappointed and won’t be eating here again.
Eastern Restaurant
Not the poshest restaurant, but the food is quite good. I didnt feel like they actually want you to sit here and eat, even thought they have seating, and they don't allow you to use the restroom either, apparently it's always out of order. The portions are huge, and they have a large selection of dishes. The lunch and dinner combos are well worth it. The last time I had the Eggrolls, it wasn't cooked inside, and the Chicken & Rice Soup was just bland. My first experience was much better than the second, but I will be going back.
Best decision I made today was reconnecting to Chinese food again thanks to Eastern!! Not only are the deals and service amazing but the quality and taste of the food is phenomenal not to mention the quantity of the food is just mind blowing. I went for lunch and the first thing I noticed was how clean it was, I mean spick and span. As I walked up to pick up my food I was greeted with such kindness. I definitely will be coming here more now that I’m able to eat Chinese again!! Mind you this is Lunch size portion Hunan tofu with fried rice.
New China Taste
This evening I placed an online order for cucumber salad, fried dumplings and noodles. Once I started eating the dumplings I felt hair in my mouth! Looked down and saw not one, but TWO strands of hair in my food. After running to the restroom I immediately called New China Taste. I told her what happened and she asked me “what would you like me to do?” I was surprised at the dismissive response I received. Rather than addressing my concern with an apology or offering a replacement, it felt as though I was bothering her and the issue was brushed aside. Finding hair in a dish is unpleasant enough, but the lack of empathy and being dismissed made it worse. The lack of basic hygiene standards is unacceptable. The individual working tonight at New China Taste showed a lack of care for their customers’ experience. I would think twice before returning or recommending it to others. I’m eagerly waiting a response from management.
I've lived off of Richmond Hwy my whole 46yrs and have only had good Chinese food from 2 establishments in the area until now! My friend tagged me in her pic and I had to try it on my own. Well she didn't tell a lie! The shrimp fried rice was the BEST EVER!! I couldn't stop thinking about it and went back 3days later..same order but add shrimp egg foo young! Amazing!!! You have to try them!!!
Sampan Cafe
Sampan Cafe is such a gem! I came here many times and food always delicious! They also have the best dim sum in town! Very fresh and tasty! I love this place 10/10
A traditional Cantonese restaurant with pleasant and comfortable decor. The restaurant features several private party rooms of various sizes, which is a great touch. It's perfect for friends' gatherings or business dinnings, offering privacy and even karaoke for added fun. The food here is a feast for the senses, with an impressive presentation, aroma, and taste. There are quite a few dishes featuring high-end ingredients, which elevate the dining experience. If you're looking for a restaurant to enjoy a cozy meal with friends or colleagues, with top-notch ingredients and a prestigious atmosphere, this place is an excellent choice. --- Hope this meets your needs!
Szechuan Delight
Located at the end of an alley, this little Chinese restaurant was a wonderful surprise. There are only two tables, so I was lucky to get one. I ordered Sesame Chicken with an extra charge for white meat ($14.95). It was perfectly prepared, crispy but not at all greasy. Lunch specials are $9.25 from Monday to Friday.
Surfing the web after 9PM looking for something open near Landmark in Alexandria. Came upon this carryout joint in Landmark Plaza, and it's open 'til 10PM. Egg Foo Yung on the menu sealed the deal for me. Hopped in the car and was there in minutes. The space was tidy and clean (no grunge here) and included a couple of tables for those who would dine in. Staff was friendly and accommodating (I was able to request my egg foo young with barbecued pork and shrimp omitting the chicken). My egg foo young had the right flavor and was bagged with the pancakes, sauce, and rice each packed in its own sealed container. I ate in the car. Everything was good 'and hot.The food hit the spot. My only criticism of the foo young was that it was so monochromatic -- pale brown. If they could have mustered just a few bits of chopped scallion greens for garnish, it would have made a big difference. Look at the photo of the egg foo young on their web site and you'll see what I mean. Pathetic. The other disappointment was dry rice, not hard yet, but at evening's end it was definitely getting a little dry. Not inedible, and I did eat it anyway. I will almost certainly go back one of these days, at least for egg foo young when the mood strikes, though I'm not much of a carryout guy. Cutting them a break and hoping for the best next time, I'm going to give this little carryout with the long menu (and even a few Thai offerings) 5 stars overall. Though it's just a carryout, it could easily compete with a full service restaurant, judging by my experience with their generous serving of egg foo young.
Peter Chang McLean
I love Peter Chang and what he’s done for authentic Chinese food, so I’ve been on a mission to try one of his restaurants wherever I go. This time it was the Peter Change in McLean, which is the Tysons Corner area. I went with friends who also appreciate the authentic flavors of Szechuan food and was promptly seated for lunch on a weekday. A side note – by the time we left, the place was packed! So, make reservations! Our server, Christine W was AMAZING! She did an EXCELLENT job explaining the menu and was very enthusiastic about the various items we needed a further description of. I told her about some items I normally get at other Peter Chang locations and she gave me a rundown of what I might like. She also explained that each location does have slightly different items, based on their local chefs. But she also said that there are certain items that are staples at all his restaurants, such as Bamboo Fish. We started with hot tea and she advised they have a few to choose from, to which we chose Jasmine, which was excellent! Next up was their cucumbers. This is another item that many Szechuan places have, but each style varies. Here they used a heavy amount of sesame oil which really made it taste great! We also choose their Dan Dan Noodles, which were more of a peanut-paste style sauce, rather than a minces pork sauce. They were good, but not exactly what I expected. We also got their bubble scallion pancake which was so very tasty! For entrées they have a dish called Spicy Beef Rice Crispy which isn’t at all what you might think based on the name, it’s a “bowl” made of rice and hardened to be a single, crispy rice bowl. The idea is the beef has such a spice to it, that you pluck off pieces of the crisp rice to eat with it and balance the heat from the stir fried beef. The beef was so very tender and flavored so very nicely! We also got an order of Bamboo Fish, because this is one of the popular things Peter Chang does perfectly at all locations! They use flounder here, like the others and it was perfect! Other items we tried were the Signature House Braised Pork Belly as well as the Dry Spicy Combo Hot Pot with all three proteins; shrimp, beef, and chicken – Another excellent items with lots of flavor!! Everything was excellent and as I mentioned, the service was incredible! Definitely would return and highly recommend stopping in for a unique, authentic experience!
Very comfortable for lunch. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The shrimp cake was good and the flounder with mustard greens was delicious. The lettuce wraps (not pictured) were fine, but not as special as the other two. Because it depends on what you order, I could only give four stars. However, it's worth going and trying this wonderful flounder!
Hunan Express
Today I worked near this area and I came here to try the food and it is definitely delicious, I recommend it, especially the very friendly staff.😃
Great food, great service, great price. Called in a large lunch order, and I didn’t give them much time to prepare it. I arrived and waited maybe 5 minutes before two large bags came out of the back with my order ready to go. I delivered it to my luncheon on time and the people, loved the food. Can’t go wrong with Hunan Express in McLean.
