Pei Wei Asian Kitchen
My first time at Pei Wei, my wife had been before. First, walking in, it is very clean and inviting for a casual dining restaurant. The cashier was extremely patient and friendly and made some suggestions. The food came out relatively quickly and was hot, fresh, and tasted delicious. Overall, the experience was great service and great food. 4 stars, you might ask? Price! This is quick casual, and it cost us over $50 for just 2 of us for what is in the food picture attached. For me, I can go to other places and get the same quality for less, but if in the area, I'd recommend Pei Wei.
This was the first time that I ever had the worst experience at Pei Wei. Usually they do so well, but this was disappointing and lackluster, especially after buying $107 worth of food, but realizing that it was only worth half that amount. I placed an order for delivery on the Pei Wei website after a 12 hour day at work. First off, the food was maybe lukewarm at best. Then I noticed several items missing and incorrect. I ordered 2 packs of 6 count STEAMED dumplings (for a total of 12) for my family and I, but got 1 pack of 4 count of FRIED dumplings. My soup was missing (I am sick and wanted something warm for my throat). The lettuce from the lettuce wraps was brown, slimy, and disgusting, but obviously not from the sauce. It was like they were purposely trying to screw up the order, I was going to stop there and call the rest of the order a loss, but then when I called to speak with the manger about just these items, the worker answered the phone, told me he would get a manager, and hung up on me. I called back a few times and he picked up and hung up each time. I tried to leave a voicemail, but it was completely full. I totally get it. It’s late, and you want to go home, but instead of hanging up on me, communicate that the manager isn’t there and to call back tomorrow (unless of course this was the manager…. I hope not). This was completely unprofessional, how this guy handled the situation. How he answered the phone was unprofessional too “Culebra Pei Wei” is ridiculous. That’s not how to answer a phone. This person’s people skills are ridiculous and he shouldn’t be working there. As I said, I was going to stop there, but now after being treated this way, I will make sure to mention that the portions were scant at best. Normally the portions are plentiful, but there was barely enough for our family of 4. Usually, we have enough for left overs, but we didn’t. Anyhow, I usually go to Pei Wei every 1-2 months, but I think we’re going to stop after this experience, because if we continue to get this, it’s a complete waste of money. Ridiculous! I will try to call an actual manager tomorrow. Hopefully they will make up for this, but I’m starting to doubt it after this. Will update after. Update: after speaking with the store manager, I was told that he would refund me and to come in for a meal “on him”. We came in, it was excellent, but we were never refunded the money. Sad that there wasn’t follow through, but glad to see it made better.
Lin's International Buffet
had lunch at Lin’s International Buffet today and was impressed with the variety of options, especially for seafood lovers like me. Here’s an overview of some highlights from my meal: 1. Seafood Selection: The buffet featured crawfish, shrimp, and crab, all of which were flavorful and freshly prepared. The boiled shrimp had a nice texture, while the crawfish was well-seasoned. The inclusion of corn on the cob alongside seafood made it feel like a mini seafood boil experience. 2. Fried Options: The fried shrimp and breaded seafood bites were crispy and satisfying. They paired well with the dipping sauces available at the buffet. 3. Sushi and Cold Bar: The sushi options were diverse, including rolls with salmon, tuna, and vegetarian ingredients. While the sushi presentation was appealing, the freshness could have been better. 4. Soups: The seafood soup was light yet flavorful, with a prominent shrimp taste and hearty vegetables. It made for a great starter. 5. Vegetables and Salads: The buffet offered a good range of salads and vegetables. I particularly enjoyed the fresh lettuce, cucumber, and marinated carrots. However, labeling for ingredients was inconsistent, making it hard to determine what some dishes contained. 6. Main Courses: The fried fish was cooked well, with a crisp coating and flaky interior. The addition of lemon slices and steamed broccoli as sides was a nice touch. While the selection is impressive, I feel improvements could be made in two areas: First, clearer labeling of ingredients is essential for people with dietary preferences or allergies. Second, the freshness of some dishes (like the sushi and a few warm items) could be enhanced, especially during peak hours. Overall, it was a great experience for an all-you-can-eat buffet, and I’d rate it 4/5. I would recommend this place for anyone who enjoys variety and seafood.
Really don't know how to review this place. The food was fine and service was very friendly. Music was a little to loud. We tried a couple of items and none were bad but also nothing great. These bowls should cost closer to $8.50-12. For that price I would possibly go back. Between our two families we ordered 7 different things. Our favorite was the side of noodles. Had great flavor and not to oily.
Peng's Chinatown Chinese
Went to lunch on a Wednesday and was seated right away. The restaurant was almost at full capacity, but we were attended to rather quickly. All the iced tea is unsweetened so you'll have to put your own sugar, this is not a problem for me personally since I prefer unsweetened tea. I ordered sesame chicken and won ton soup. The soup was relaxing and wasn't too salty it tasted home made, all the food tasted home made. The rice wasn't oily or over cooked it tasted healthy. The sesame chicken wasn't too sweet and had a good flavor to it. The egg roll was amazing to me, had the perfect crunch and filled with vegetables, not too oily either. Overall the lunch experience was great and it has my co-workers wanting to go back as soon as possible. I'm looking forward to trying the beef and broccoli and will post more pics when I'm able.
I’m so happy to see Peng’s back open and running strong, with the same wonderful family behind it from their previous location off Bandera. The food truly brings back so many childhood memories, with those familiar flavors that are just as delicious as I remember! The menu has a fantastic selection of lunch and dinner specials, all at great prices. If you haven't tried the spring rolls here yet, you're missing out! They're unlike anything else I've ever had! Crispy, flavorful, and unique in a way that no other place seems to replicate. Highly recommend checking it out!
Thai Wok Restaurant
First time trying this place! I have nothing but positive remarks. Service was friendly and food was hot and delicious! it’s hard to find good authentic thai food and I will definitely be a returning customer :)
Amazing local Thai spot, with even better service. Super helpful and kind, and the meal came quick. Thai fried rice is some of the better in town.
Rice & Spicy Thai Kitchen
WOW! This place is a GEM. If you like Thai, you must go here. My mom loved the Crab fried rice. I got a noodle dish with a lot of basil. It was excellent. Ask for it if you like basil. Ever dish was full of flavor and just really excellent. Our whole party of 6 people loved every dish. Everyone said they were going back. They do not offer a military discount which is not expected and ok but I report for those that like to know.
The only thing missing was some good dessert options because this local Thai spot has flavor on lockdown. Best crab fried rice in town with just the right amount of heat. All of the other items in my meal were also delicious and will definitely make another trip so that my wife can enjoy
VIETNAMESE EXPRESS
The pho broth is soooo good on it's own, flavorful and refreshing! Pho is topped white onions and green onions. There are condiments at the table, chili oil had to be requested. Plate with cilantro, bean sprouts, lime, and jalapeno comes with pho. I got steak and brisket pho, both were thin sliced, tender, and the amount of noodles and meat was reasonable to me. The waitress said the lychee and peach tea is one of her favorites and I definitely see why! The tea is almost too sweet for me personally but I loved the flavor. Friendly service, clean restaurant, and food arrived quickly; Will definitely be visiting again!
The food was amazing!!! The spring rolls looked different but the tased exactly like what i was looking for. And the utensil station at the table was very convenient. The drinks were sooo good not too sweet just right and everything was fresh! The waitress was fast and friendly, the atmosphere was very relaxing and calm. The dining room was very clean. Waitress was very attentive we had multiple refills during our meal, she even asked about to go containers before we could. I will definitely dine here again soon.
Himalayan Kitchen
I ordered the butter chicken that had so much flavor and the sauce was thick not to creamy with the right amount of spice on the medium, I also got the cheese naan and rosemary naan to dip with the sauce and basmati rice to give it the perfect combo in every bite, I also got the gajar ka halwa which is a sweet shredded carrot dessert with raisins that reminded me of sweet potato casserole, and I got the gulab Jamun that is kinda like a sweet donut ball made out of sweet milk and flour and syrup sauce. The meal was delish.
This was our first time here for my wife and I. We’d never experienced any type of Indian food before. Our server Nutan was so friendly and attentive. Drinks were refilled without having to ask. She always had a smile on her face and she was so friendly. Food was amazing as well. Sweet and sour pork was out of this world. Rosemary Naan was so good as well.
Yum Thai Restaurant
Yumm Thai!!! Decent Thai restaurant and good food. We happen to be in the area and looked up their menu in interest. However, our server rushed on us to place an order. The restaurant closes at 9 pm and we were on the table at 8 pm. So we asked other servers, and she very much comforted us and took good care that we are not rushed. Thanks to her. However, because of this experience, we only ordered Chicken Satay and Drunken Noodles and decided to leave shortly. Otherwise we were planning to order their Green Curry, Pineapple Rice and dessert 😞 Food was good. Chicken Satay was nicely flavored, tender, and soft. Noodles were well cooked tossed in sauces, tomatoes, bell pepper adding that burnt wok flavor. We liked the food but did not enjoy it. We felt undone and incomplete. Though will say the place is nice and welcoming. Food taste is good. Good portion. If you are in the area, do try it.
The food was pretty good. My other dishes and beverages were flavorful. I’m disappointed with the mango sticky rice. I get it consistently. Sometimes it’s too milky or it’s too dry, and mango is not ripe. Flavor was good this time, but I paid $8 for what looks like about $3-4 of food. This is not the first time either.
Phở Việt SA
The food was great and very authentic. Easily my favorite pho place in San Antonio! The dishes were flavorful, fresh, and delicious. One stand out was the fried rice cake appetizer(Bot Chiên). The rice cakes were perfectly crispy and not too oily and the egg it was cooked in was tasty. The Hu Tiêu and pho portions were very generous. The spring rolls were also very good. While service was a bit slow, the staff were friendly and kind. The interior clean and well decorated. This would be a nice place to take your family or a low key date.
Pretty good place for traditional Vietnamese and other Asian dishes. Their pho broth is excellent. Service was quick and courteous. Prices are reasonable. Will definitely come back to try other items on their extensive menu. The place was clean and appears high-end but a little bland. I guess so you can focus on the food.
Pho VN Bistro
Food was extremely delicious!!! Tables and restrooms were kept extremely neat and clean, the waitress who helped me was extremely helpful and sweet. The owner was extremely sweet and understanding as well. I lost one of my keys and they helped me find it! Loved this place, will be returning.
I placed an order where I asked for a substitution. I asked for the price before placing the order. When I went to pick it up, they tried to charge me $7 more than quoted. I asked for a manager and he tried to explain it away. I told him his employeesneed to make sure they are givingaccurate information. He wouldn't honor the price quoted. This is the second time this has happened. I told him to keep the food and left. I will never go there again. It felt like a bait and switch.
Sukhothai Thai Restaurant Express
Excellent service and food! This food definitely has a nice kick. I appreciate the option of making multiple dishes gluten free - the waitress was very knowledgeable about this! We ordered orange chicken and chicken fried rice. We will be back!
We dined in and were pleasantly surprised at the beautiful decor and attention to detail that is usually reserved for finer dining. The food here is delicious and perfect whether you dine in or not, and they were handling a lot of to-go orders at a quick pace while simultaneously waiting on tables, which was impressive. I had the Pineapple Fried Rice, spring rolls, and yellow curry, and everything was made to perfection.
Panda Express
Went to get my kids some food and I ordered the broccoli beef which had broccoli and 2 slices of beef. Then I ordered the orange chicken and they gave me maybe 3 pieces of chicken. On top of that I ordered a plate with the orange chicken, sweet fire and lo mein, I got no meat?????!! Just the noodles that covers my whole plate. Not worth the money if I’m getting barely any food. Workers need to be considerate of how they plate the food and pay attention. When I spoke to a manager she said on the cub meal it’s 80% broccoli 20% beef. 2 pieces of beef is not worth the price if I’m basically paying the veggies. Also she said cub meals don’t have full portions which is obvious it’s for kids but 3 pieces??? Come on.
I eat there about once a month if that. Always been good service. Today, I got the sesame chicken and found 2 flies cooked with my food. 1 fly was ok, the second just killed my appetite.
