Hearty's Sichuan Cuisine Chinese Restaurant
The restaurant has been recently renamed to Flo's Taiwan Cuisine, and continues to offer quality and tasty Taiwanese and Chinese food.
The restaurant looks new and very clean. I have known the chef for many years. He is an expert on traditional Chinese Sichuan Cuisine. He had had his own small restaurant for many years in Rockville but had to sold it due to the rising cost. He prefers to be hired as a chef so that he is able to focus on cooking. If you like spicy Chinese food, it is a must-go restaurant for sure. There is variety of non-spicy food available as well. The Chinese Hamburger (not spicy), spicy beef (in soup), spicy fish (in soup), fish flavored eggplant, stir-fried cabbage, stir-fried lamb or beef, shredded pork and dried tofu, bite size fried chicken... are my favorites! I know my favorite list seems too long. But it is the truth. I went there yesterday with a party of 15 so that I had an opportunity to taste a lot of food. And I am so glad to see some of my favorite dishes on the table.
Panda Express
The staff always greets you when you enter and that is wonderful but the tables were filthy and the food quality has gone downhill. I had the chicken with string beans which was exactly as it has always been, delicious! But then I added the chicken teriyaki and the meat was full of gristle, very fatty, and had not even been sliced all the way through due to the consistency of the poor meat quality. I hope that they get back to where they were because it's nice to have this option! UPDATE 1/30/25: as usual the staff were extremely friendly . . I'm glad to update my post to note that the food quality has greatly improved! The chicken was very tender, the green beans were very fresh, everything was cooked to the standard I have come to expect from Panda Express!
I sent my teenage daughter to go pick up dinner tonight. When she got home we opened our containers, mine looked like the vegetables were from yesterday and everything tasted way off. Usually we both eat most our our meal, tonight not even 20%. A little bit later we both got sick. This place has gone downhill! We won't be visiting a Panda Express anytime soon
Shang Hai Restaurant
I have always loved this place. Great food and reasonable prices. I see some reviews about the lady at the front. If you pay in cash, you're good. Credit card fees for small businesses are astronomical which is why it's preferred to spend over a certain amount if you are using a credit card. Credit card companies are slamming small businesses, so some of your orders this restaurant would rather lose because you're actually costing them money with your small orders. #ijs
They rudely said not allowed eating in the restaurant but no sign on the door showed. The restroom was locked also. Food quality is really bad. The materials were not fresh. Very unfriendly attitude. Never come back.
China 1
If, I could give them zero stars I would. The order taker/cashier was rude and raised her voice. This was my first time patronizing this place and my last. A gentleman returned his food while I was there.
China Wok
Ordered for pickup, the food was ready quick and was piping hot when we got it. I got the vegetable lo mein noodles and they were DELICIOUS. My boyfriend got hot and sour soup and even the small size was a really good portion and tasted great. He also got the pork moo shu and it was also very good. The prices are super reasonable, especially for the portions. Definitely enough for leftovers. Overall such a good experience and will definitely be back!!
DO NOT ORDER THE PAD THAI. This dish came with absolutely NO SAUCE. When I brought it to their attention, they told me their pad thai did not come with sauce.......LIKE WHAT? I've eaten Pad Thai many times and it always comes with sauce...that's where all the flavor lies. If you like plain noodles, plain chicken, and absolutely no flavor then order this dish. They do not and should not offer anything Pad Thai on their menu. Stay clear!!
Dragon 1 Chinese Restaurant
TL;DR: This place is way underrated! Generous portions, well-seasoned food, and great quality. The inside isn’t the most appealing, but the clean kitchen and amazing food make up for it. Ordering online worked smoothly for me, and service was fast (though it may vary during busy times). Many bad reviews are outdated—things have likely improved. Definitely give it a shot! I don’t understand why this place has such a low rating—definitely don’t listen to the 1-star reviews. One complaint mentioned a sticker on the food, which is valid, but it really seems like the restaurant has taken the feedback to heart and improved. My experience was absolutely amazing, and the food was great! The portions here are generous, the food is well-seasoned, and everything is cooked perfectly. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken, and it was easily enough for two meals. I also got the Crab Rangoon, which were crispy and delicious. They don’t skimp on portions or quality, which is a rare find. Now, about the restaurant itself—admittedly, the inside isn’t the most appealing. There were only a couple of tables, a lot of boxes for takeout containers stacked around, and the pictures of the menu items weren’t the best quality or well-lit. But honestly, none of that really mattered to me. The kitchen looked clean, which is what’s most important. If they wanted to improve the atmosphere, fixing these small things would help, but at the end of the day, the food is what counts, and they do that well. After reading other reviews, it seems like ordering over the phone might not be the best way to go. I personally ordered online through their website, and everything went smoothly. I haven’t tried calling in, so I can’t speak to that experience, but if you're unsure, online ordering seems like the safest bet. Also, I went at a time when it wasn’t busy, so I got my food pretty quickly. I’m not sure how fast service is during peak hours, but for me, it was great. One thing to note is that a good portion of the negative reviews are from many years ago, so things may have changed. If you’re on the fence, I’d say give this place a shot—you might be surprised! All in all, this place is a hidden gem and should be rated much higher. I’ll definitely be coming back!
I placed an order over the phone (after calling over 20 times in order for them to answer), when they finally answered I placed my order and asked for the total which she would not give me because they said she said they were too busy. Then she told me it would be about an hour maybe longer because they were so busy and I was willing to wait because we love this place. So, I ran some errands then about 45 minutes later go to the location only to find out they closed for the day. I’m assuming because they had too many orders and not enough employees, so basically I wasted 45 minutes waiting on food that I was never going to get. I always eat at Dragon One it’s our only Chinese restaurant we go to, but now I’m highly considering switching due to this situation. It was highly unprofessional and I believe I deserved at least a courtesy call to let me know that they were closing or they should’ve at least fulfilled the orders that customers had placed. And as for your reply, I’m an adult I don’t have time for nonsense like that. Not to mention you have your date wrong. Not a fake customer and not a fake review. All truth. And a loyal customer at that. If you’re trying to save face I get it but do not accuse me of actions I had no part of and try and damage my character as a human being. An apology or call from someone with an explanation will do in order to make us loyal customers again.
Panda Express
I am a huge fan of Asian cuisine. So I am game to try anything. That being said, I liked the food. The service was awesome, the store was clean. Not a huge fan of how limited the menu truly is, but that's me. Menu should state the uncharged for the honey shrimp. And why not have spoons? Forks for your rice is just a pain in the butt. Half falls right back off the fork. The food again, was good. Service fantastic, just maybe not my cup of rice. Worth the try.
Super friendly and helpful staff, but they basically stop making food a couple hours before they shut down. “We’re out of white rice for the night” and more than half of entree serving dishes are empty an hour before closing, so I left without buying anything. Doesn’t help to have a friendly staff when there’s nothing to buy. Read the other reviews: this is a common issue at this store.
Kim's Hunan
Great local Chinese food. I like the deep fried spicy squid and so does my son. i also like the fried wontons-the best I have ever had. The chicken wings are really good, too. Also, I like their sushi a lot, certainly the tempura or cucumber roll.
I only gave 2 stars because the driver was really nice and the order was correct, it just does not taste good. The food has a very bland taste. As if the ingredients were just added but not cooked together to give any flavor if that makes sense. Anyway, I only ordered from here because I was able to order online and pay with cash. I will not be ordering from her again. Also, they have some hot pink sauce that they are passing off as mumbo sauce, it is disgusting and shouldnt be sold to an animal!!!
Mickys Chinese Restaurant
Just walking into the establishment gave me a off vibe. I only give it a 1 star because it’s the lowest rating but it deserves a 0. I ordered wings & fried rice with a small chicken broccoli. The wings were coated with super hard batter and the rice didn’t even look appetizing. Chicken broccoli had a good taste but was soooo watery. I wouldn’t come back here again. Feels like a waste of $45 I spent.
Ok they really don’t have an atmosphere but it’s a take out joint. We love this place. I don’t need to be greeted with hugs and rainbows and unicorns. The food is good and they keep it affordable. Imagine all the drunks and rude people they encounter. Don’t be one. This is a small shrimp lo mein and 2 egg rolls for $13. Also, a 3.7 for a Chinese restaurant is actually a 5. IYKYK.
Szechuan Palace
Mom and Pop Chinese Food Restaurant with some Thai offerings. Ordered Egg Drop Soup and Scallion Pancakes to start. Both were delicious. Mains were General Tao's Chicken and General Tao's Shrimp. Unfortunately, we were brought one wrong entrée, but when alerted, correction was made quickly. The General Tao's Shrimp was amazing, definitely will return for this.
This is one of my favorite Chinese spots. There is seating inside and when I’ve been there for lunch specials food always comes out perfectly hot! There’s not a lot of people who dine in. Again, mostly a carry out place. It’s always busy and when we order take out it’s usually 35-45 min wait, which is fine because we have planned to call earlier. Ive been dining at this restaurant since at least 2008. Really enjoy the general tso bean curd, egg drop soup, orange chicken, chicken and broccoli, and egg rolls!
Peter Chang Gaithersburg
My husband has been visiting Peter Chang Gaithersburg for years with his coworkers and has always raved about their dishes. We finally had the chance to dine here together, and it absolutely lived up to the hype! We ordered Peter Chang's signature Peking duck (whole), which was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside—truly a showstopper. The Hot Chili Oil Beef Tendon (cold dish) was packed with bold flavors and had an incredible texture. The Mama's Handmade Noodles with Chili Oil were delightfully chewy, with just the right kick of spice. The Spicy Dry Fried Eggplant was crispy and addictive, even for someone who isn't usually an eggplant fan. And, of course, the famous Scallion Bubble Pancake—crispy, airy, and so fun to eat—was the perfect complement to our meal. Every dish was expertly prepared, bursting with authentic flavors, and served with great attention to detail. The staff was attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. If you're a fan of authentic Szechuan cuisine or just love bold, flavorful dishes, Peter Chang Gaithersburg is an absolute must-visit. We'll definitely be back!
Stop by for late lunch, and they actually offer tapas portion dishes. So the portion size is smaller compared to traditional dishes, but it gives patrons lots of choices to try different dishes. We had total of 9 dishes, mostly good, but the stem pork rib dish was not up to par, it had way too much starch, it felt like eat a wet breaded pork rib. For 3 steam dumpling for 9 bucks was slightly steep. But over all was great lunch. The highlight was the pork belly stew, and lions head meat ball, even though it was only one meat ball, it was pretty good. The beef chow fan was good too. And the shrimp with walnut was decent too. Total out of the door with tips was $103 for 4 people. We’ll be back again.
Chinese Express
Although the wait was excessive, I was not disappointed about my food. I haven't eaten Chinese fried rice and wings since I was a teenager, but the fried general tso's wings and fried rice were delicious. They may need to hire more help to execute delivery orders and take-out orders efficiently in the future to minimize wait time. I've never been to a Chinese carryout that offered alternative sauces to fry wings with, but the concept is genius.
Solid place that's open later than majority in the area with one helluva twist - it doubles as a latin bar, so you get literally best of both worlds! And food is bangin!
