It’s your typical Chinese restaurant. I was sad that they didn’t have Pad Thai, but the sweet and sour chicken was good! My husband loved their General Tso’s. The egg roll was good, it doesn’t taste like what I’m used to. I’m from a different state so I’m used to my usual place I go to. My daughter was upset and the one guy gave her a cup that lights up. Overall, we were happy and would return next time we’re in town.

I work at the publix in the same shopping center, and come here to eat on occasion. Whenever I come in and order, its always clean and the good comes out relatively quick while also being freshly cooked. I wish some of the items would have a bit more flavor to them, but otherwise it is well worth the money

Hot Mustard 0

Hot Mustard in Charleston is an absolute gem of a Chinese restaurant, though it's clear from some reviews that not everyone understands what makes it special. Let me set the record straight: this is a five-star experience for those who know and appreciate authentic "dirty Chinese" food in all its glory. First, let's address the so-called "rude" service. This perception likely comes from Americans unfamiliar with the no-frills, direct style typical of many traditional Chinese establishments. Here, the couple running the show—cooking and taking orders—are incredibly efficient and helpful, ensuring you get exactly what you pay for. It's not rude; it's refreshingly honest and straightforward. And what you pay for is an incredibly affordable, flavorful meal. The dishes are exactly what you'd hope for: comforting, unpretentious, and absolutely delicious. Whether you're craving noodles, stir-fried dishes, or classic Chinese appetizers, every bite is packed full of authentic flavor. This is not the place for fine dining or fusion creations. It’s a place to indulge in classic Chinese comfort food done right. The ambiance? Exactly as you'd expect—a casual, laid-back vibe where the focus is solely on the food. We dined in and had an unforgettable time. The service was as expected: efficient, direct, and perfectly fitting for the environment. Hot Mustard is not for those seeking high-end or experimental cuisine. It's for people who love great food at a ridiculously reasonable price and can appreciate the charm of a hardworking, no-nonsense kitchen. If you approach it with the right expectations, you'll find it’s an incredible example of what a local Chinese restaurant should be. In short, Hot Mustard delivers exactly what it advertises: delicious, affordable Chinese food served with a side of unpretentious honesty. I couldn’t recommend it more for anyone craving authentic, no-frills Chinese dining. Just don’t come expecting luxury—come expecting a great meal and a genuine experience.

I work downtown I placed an order at 4:40, received my order at 5:15. I wasn’t able to go on my break until 6:15, my food still has steam coming off of it!! So good I recommend to anyone wanting hot food delivered!

I ordered from the New Peking in November 2024. My first impression was the all too common older restaurant that really needs an update, or at least some work. You order from behind a plastic window that separates the kitchen and counter area from what is considered a dining room. There are a good amount of booths, it’s very dark, and as earlier stated, needs work. I ordered the General special. That came with fried rice, soup and an egg roll. I think it was about $13. I feel that was a pretty fair price considering. I also grabbed two cans of soda for another $3. Although I didn’t need the second can, my total for dinner was only about $16 total. The food itself was okay. It wasn’t bad, but I definitely have had much better. But it did the job. I couldn’t eat it all. It wasn’t bad to eat. And it was pretty cost effective. I was only visiting the area and will not become a regular customer. But if back in the area, I would consider New Peking again. It’s not the best I’ve had. But is far from the worst. Like I said, it did the job.

Omg, my food was awful. This was always the best Chinese food in downtown Charleston. However, what a disappointment.I had Beef and broccoli and General Tso Chicken...there were no sauces just the meat, which was tough and over cooked. The only thing we were able to digest was the soup. Due to the egg prices, I guess they couldn't prepare Egg Foo Yung. This place needs a deep cleaning, improved lighting and better food prep. Again, what a fall from grace, the food was awful plus 😞

I may be a little biased because I’m a huge Chinese fan, but being from New York, I know good Chinese food when I taste it. Peking Gourmet does not disappoint. The sweet and sour chicken/pork are favorites for me and my son. We also typically add a side of fried dumplings. Chinese food is always a great go to for a quick and satisfying lunch or dinner. The seating is typical of a restaurant that rarely has customers dining in, but takeout is where it’s at! We’ll certainly we back for more.

I ordered 3 meals to go. The prices were good. $40 . Large portions! Our food was great! I had a lobster tail in my seafood delight. Everything tasted wonderful. We all agreed that it was probably the best around here. The cashier was nice. BUT it took 30 minutes to get my food 😒. The atmosphere was awful. Turn on the radio or something. I will go back , but I will call my order in first!

Everything we have ordered here in multiple visits has been very good. There are many similar restaurants around Charleston but nothing compares to the flavor and consistency of this place. It’s family run and they are very nice. We have never had a bad experience here. The sesame beef is so flavorful and tender. The wonton soup is very close to what you would get in NY. You can easy in at a few tables or take out and they also deliver.

Decided last minute to order from here and it was well worth the decision. Everything was full of flavor and large portions reasonably priced. Got the honey wings, crab rangoon, ma po tofu, general tsos chicken, house special mei fun, and egg rolls. Will be ordering from them again!

HORRIBLE !!!! if I could rate this place ZERO STARS I would, my partner decided to try this place and realized it had three star reviews (I SEE WHY ) without my knowledge he went and picked up our food upon opening my "beef & broccoli " I discovered PINK uncooked meat ??? I immediately went to return it and was approached by a clearly incompetent Asian women who was argumentative yet barely spoke comprehensive English we went back and forth about five times before I gave up and just let her rob me of $30.00 not to mention the atmosphere I observed seeing a child's crib in the RESTAURANT, I have so many questions about this place and how they are able to be rated "A" as they don't practice sanitary skills & lack professionalism!

This is our favorite local place for Asian food. The food is great, good portion sizes, reasonable prices and super friendly staff!

While mine was just ok, everyone else loved their food, hence the 5-star review. I ordered steamed rice and steamed vegetables, hence bland. But without oil, how I like it. The Mongolian beef with rice seemed to be a standout. Eggdrop soup just ok too. & 5 stars for being open on Christmas too.

This food is amazingggg! The staff were friendly and they made my food fast! Not to mention it was a great serving size for a great price! Highly recommend getting a lunch special. You can’t beat that price for the food included and the amount you get. Also they have white sauce 🤌🤌 I love that they have pancit too! It was absolutely delicious. I will be coming back in the future!

Ordered at the back counter seafood with rice and an egg roll. Food was delivered to my table nice and hot. Food was delicious and all the staff were helpful and friendly. This place gave me the impression that it was a mom and pop restaurant. As I ate my food I noticed the majority of the customers were either picking up or ordering to go. Inside it looks somewhat dated and in the dining area I could see extra out of place boxes and clutter on the table. Over good food and good value.

There were people loitering outside. Screaming at me when I came in. I did not feel safe actually. I wish I had gotten delivery. Restaurant was dirty, and the people outside definitely discouraged and patrons from coming in. So sad. One kid rolled a food lion shopping cart into a car .

Haven't gone shopping in a long time and wanted something yummy and cheap, at first this place didn't look the best with its reviews but I have to say that 80% of those review's have to be wrong because 1st the customer service was very nice I called and ordered my food simple and easy 2 the food was DELICIOUS my only complaint is that it could use some more salt but they give you soy sauce packets so it's works out, the chicken is nice and tender and the outside coating is just enough to be tasty but not to much, the fried rice is great to, BUT I LOVE there egg rolls, I got 2 of the pork egg rolls and it was DELICIOUS! 3rd there prices are so good, I was only convinced because of the 9.95 lunch special which is the BEST deal I have ever seen, the amount of food you get is amazing for the price. Overall any review on the food being bad either reviewed the wrong place or just got unlucky because my experience with this restaurant was amazing.

This place has increasingly gotten worse. I use this as my go to for food that is simple, easy, and somewhat affordable. They have messed up on my delivery orders before and I really didn’t complain but one other time where they literally changed me for a large soup and brought me a small. This time my total order was screwed up. Before I even got the order the simple instructions for the delivery driver were not followed and then he called me several times while I was with clients. When I called him back he yelled at me and asked why I didn’t answer the phone. I remained calm due to language and culture barriers are the so no big deal. My food being wrong after all that madness is not. I finally sit down open it up and the white rice I requested was pork fried rice and no chili oil as requested. No biggie I’ll let them know, called and calmly told the perfectly English speaking guy on the phone, he relayed the order as I submitted it and then apologized and asked me to hold. I’m working through what I could of my lunch, 8 minutes later, we can bring you some white rice and chili oil. Well my lunch will be over by then sir. What do you want me to do then give you a meal…You messed up and the rice compliments the curry chicken that I’m eating solo. Well do you want some free white rice on your next visit…I will settle for a small hot and sour soup. He yells NO!!! That’s not fair! We only made the rice mistake. Ok sir I will no longer eat at your establishment. Wait why are you making this a big deal…sir I no longer will eat at your establishment thank you. Wait…never mind I’m not going to beg… never asked just wanted fair service…the end. They have been rude for a long time, mediocre at best with food quality, and very ignorant to a lot more of Americans that come in there not just people of color because I have seen it. I gave too many passes but now that I see they have stayed in business and have not fixed that attitude I’m done. And the food sucks…3 times I’ve gotten below quality food and a sea of muck (as shown in the picture) at the bottom of my plate. Steer clear of this mess.

I love ordering this combo! I have become obsessed with the lemon pepper wings after having them for the first time in November 2024. (I see why people love lemon pepper wings lol). The food was still hot to the touch when it arrived.

I was encouraged by my co-workers to try this place since I often order from Ichiban, so I ordered the sesame chicken and had it delivered to my job. The presentation was wonderful. It smelled amazing. However, I cannot be for certain if that was even chicken at all that I ate. I have had this dish before at other places and never before recalled having the chicken "CRUNCH" nor did it taste like chicken...more like softened bones, that crunched with each bite. I had to stop eating it all together. Disgusting. I hope to GOD it wasn't cat, or raccoon, or possum that I was given, so I had to toss it in the trash. I will not order from here again.

This is the best place I’ve ever eaten at. Their honey chicken is to die for. I wish I knew the recipe

Just look at the picture and you’ll see all you need to know. Honey chicken was on point. Found this in the veggies.

Told the owner working that my chicken wings were fried too hard two weeks ago and to make sure my wings weren’t overcooked for this order, and she gave me attitude. She refused to serve me and said if I have a problem with their cooking eat somewhere else. She then stormed off and started yelling to her husband in their language about me. So he ran over and he told me to get out and leave because the chicken will be cooked as it recently was and not a minute sooner. How rude! I guess customers shouldn’t complain about food they spend their money on. Seriously

Always good. Exactly what you would want and expect
