Chengdu Center City 成都
This place was good, seated fast on a Saturday night which was nice. Big vegetarian section on menu. Everything was good and really satisfying to eat, better than your local take out Chinese but not fancy, just perfect mix for food before going out for drinks in the area. Great vibe and cute seating up the stairs and cute window booths over looking the street.
Very authentic Chinese food. They just hired a new chef and he takes the restaurant to the next level lol. We ordered crispy pork with sweet and sour sauce, sauerkraut, and general Tao’s chicken. I have to say it is the best Chinese restaurant I have had for years in Philly!
General Tsao's House
I want to split this review into 2 areas. The first concerns the atmosphere, drinks, and food. The restaurant was nicely decorated and inviting, with relaxing vibes and an upscale atmosphere. Drinks, while pricey, were good and they did have a mocktail available. And finally the food overall was great - the shrimp dry pot was particularly excellent, with our general tsaos chicken also being a standout. We would have appreciated crisper tofu and more rice, but those were minor issues. The second half of the review needs to address service and overall speed. On this Saturday evening at 7pm, I think there was only one waiter on staff. He did a great job, but food took a long time to arrive, ordering was difficult, and the time to get our check and pay was frankly ridiculous. A table nearby had similar issues. If the service had been on the level of food, this review would have been 5/5. Unfortunately - it was not.
Authenticity is not so important due to the natural adaptation to new environment. Are they still Good Chinese food? YES. We enjoyed all of our dishes. The place is clean with tasteful decor. The chef is from Chengdu成都,China. Due to pandemic, this restaurant is only opened 2 weeks ago, so it's still very new. Ling, our server is super friendly and helpful. Is this place worth going? YES! Go give it a try. For sure we will be back when we visit Philadelphia next time. Hope the restaurant can keep up the standard and get even better. Good Luck!
Master Wok
You can taste that they don't clean their chicken AT ALL. Mine like unwashed meat and there was a bunch of fat and connective tissue. Sauce was bomb though , service was fast too. $8 for just meat and rice is too much, The Halal truck is a better deal.
The food is amazing! And for a good price.
Ming Kong Chinese Restaurant
A great experience with a smooth delivery service of Chinese cuisine from Ming Kong. With tasty food in excellent portions and reasonably priced, Ming Kong gets highly regards, and a 4-star Yelp Elite recommendation. Though like nearly every Asian restaurant in Philadelphia, they have not caught onto that one in ten people have an allergy/intolerance to gluten, and no items are labeled gluten-free, nor does anyone working at the restaurant understand what gluten is, nor the words “gluten-free” when inquiring about what items on the menu are gluten free, I did ask if certain dishes were cooked with any flour. As a result, I ordered the Chicken Chow Mei Fun, along with Pork Fried Rice. Mei Fun are rice noodles. The Chicken Chow Mei Fun was very good, lightly oiled and flavored. The dish included White Meat Chicken, Scallions, Carrots, Onions, Yellow peppers, Cabbage, and Bean Sprouts. I’d recommend this gluten-free entree, available in pint and quart size portions. The Pork Fried Rice, though good, barely contains anything except brown rice, pork, egg, scallions and onions. It may contain soy sauce, which isn’t gluten-free.
Food was awful. I probably shouldn’t have eaten it because the color didn’t even look right. I ordered sesame chicken, rice, vegetable lomein, wonton soup and egg rolls for my family. The only thing we ate were the egg rolls and several bites of the chicken. My daughter and I are currently sick. Stomach in knots and more than likely will go to ER.
Jinwei
Yes!! Reminds me of my childhood. So many different options, including dishes I’ve never tried before! Awesomely authentic. 4 dishes plus a soup for $8 (real broth, not the fake yellow wonton soup you get everywhere else)! I’m so happy I found this through Google Maps. Definitely coming back again soon!
It wasn't too bad but not too good either. It seems like lots of Chinese restaurants cut back on using a lot of products they use to use that made the food taste really good. like sesame oil,and other spices.now they boil a their meats and just blend it with just one sauce and call it the day. 🫤The price not bad but not something I would eat regularly.😳 by the way I dint like the soup🫣
ShiMiaoDao Yunnan Rice Noodle 十秒到云南过桥米线
This place was a place that I visited as a child. Coming back though, it did not disappoint in food, service, and atmosphere. The dishes were amazing and felt really interactive while being surprisingly super hot, the staff was kind and understanding, and the murals and paintings in the menus and restaurants itself added a really nice touch to the place. Come here if you want an amazing time with cheap but delicious food. 10/10
Was dragged here by friends insisting that I must try what 'authentic' Chinese food tastes like. And it did not disappoint! A very homely and quaint shop around the corner in Chinatown. I got the Veg tofu rice noodles with tomato soup and it was absolutely delicious. The dish arrived boiling hot, and you're supposed to add your noodles and the side dishes to it and let them cook for bit before eating. I did burn my tongue throughout the experience but that did not stop me from scarfing my food down. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting chinatown.
Spicy Palace
Very tasty, fresh food, will come again.
First time here and is already my fav hotpot place in town. Great food and great service. Can't have enough of this!
Shanghai Gourmet
Shanghai Gourmet is a must-visit spot in the bustling chaos of Reading Terminal Market. With a counter that offers prime seating for people-watching, you can sit here for 30 minutes (or more) and enjoy the beautiful mess of activity around you. Their Szechuan fish is absolutely perfect—flavorful and spicy, just what I’m looking for every single time. It’s one of my go-tos, a dish I can count on to deliver that comforting, fiery kick I constantly crave. Check them out!
I got pepper steak & onion. It cost me $12.75. It was done cooking in about 5 minutes or less. Service was ok. I ordered very quickly & didn’t have to wait in any line or anything. The food was actually soooo good! I would definitely buy it again. The reason for 4 stars is because it was only a small amount of food for the price I paid. I can definitely go to a hood Chinese store & get more bang for my buck!
Heung Fa Chun Sweet House
Have been wanting to try fan tuan forever and realized this place sells it!! $3.50 per roll and very tasty. I will be coming back here regularly to try their other items as well
This is what I have been looking for all these years. Perfection! The bun is soft and the stuffings are delicious (hard boil egg, pork, sausage) "Steam bun"
Lanzhou hand-pulled noodles
this is my most favorite place to eat in Chinatown, and one of my favorite restaurants in Philly. the food is so fresh, flavorful, and authentic. you can really tell a lot of work and love is put into the food. for under $10 you can get a big ol bowl of hand made noodles served in a complex and comforting broth. most times, i am unable to finish my bowl of ramen, but i walk out feeling so full, warmed, and ready for a nap. my husband and i love this spot and we have so many great memories here. we’ve brought friends and family. i often come here by myself to read, write, watch tv, or really just sit there and enjoy the atmosphere and i always feel welcomed. you can tell other patrons feel the same, often coming to sit, eat, and watch tv for awhile because it feels so homey. please come and support this small business! thank you for the amazing service:)
We really love the chongqing fried chicken and the perfect taste soup here. The boneless chicken is so tender and crispy, you just can’t stop trying it.
Sunny Restaurant
BEST CHINESE FOOD I EVER💯 🥢 Seriously their fried rice is on point🎯🥡🤤 But everything my wife and I have had from there has been great. Plus fast service. I never write reviews but they deserve it.
Local Chinese store with okay food, I only really order small stuff , the wings are good but u definitely have to tell them to cook em till u can’t cook em no more hunny 😂, love my wings extra hard and extra salt and pepper
Lucky Chinese Restaurant
A takeout only Chinese American restaurant. They also sell candy and have an atm. You don’t go for the ambiance. But the hours are late night and convenient. The chicken wings were really good. Affordable cash only.
I asked for pepper steak and they barely put any steak when I called and complained about it they told me I have to pay for extra steak and when I told them that’s not right they hung up now they have me blocked and I can’t even call so don’t expect much from these people they don’t care about us they just want money
