Hong Shing Restaurant 0

Hong Shing Restaurant

I recently ordered takeout from Hong Shing and tried a variety of dishes including chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice, snow pea leaf, General Tao chicken, sweet and sour pork, chicken balls, and deep-fried squid. While I found most of the dishes to be okay, I did have some issues with the General Tao chicken, which had a lot of chewy batter pieces, possibly because it didn’t carry well for takeout. The chicken balls also had slightly overdone and dry batter, and the deep-fried squid had a chewy texture as well. Despite these drawbacks, I enjoyed the rest of the meal and would definitely come back to try the restaurant in person.

I would give zero if I could. I ordered for this spicy squid and the squid was so chewy that my jaw is still hurting from chewing it. I asked for the order to be replaced and they replaced the order with fried shrimp but still they charged me for the squid that I didn’t eat. Expensive restaurant but bad food.

Overall food and service is decent, will definitely come back. The flavours were spot on, the experience was enjoyable, we came here for dinner and ordered one of their set menu with a few add ons. The steamed scallops taste wise was great, but compared to the scallop in the noodle dish, the steamed one seemed a bit small especially when it was sliced in half. The Typoon Style Lobster didn’t have the tiny fried fish which I find changes the dish a bit, but we’re definitely looking forward to come back and try the dim sum. Our server was very attentive, the manager didn’t seem to be as friendly. I do get some of the comments left on here about their service, a little inconsistent.

One of the better dim sum spots in Downtown Toronto, though the selection of dim sum items is relatively limited and they were surprisingly sold out of congee when I dined here. The actual space and ambiance leaves much to be desired but the food feels clean, tasty, and well seasoned. Definitely come here with a group and plan to share, as the portions here are quite large!

This food court stall is quite different from other food court Chinese options. They don't have the usual Westernised dishes but a more 'authentic' (the term is contested, but it will suffice for a food review!) menu & there was even at least one dish I'd never seen before. The flavours here are simpler, like in Chinese home cooking (versus what you'd get at a restaurant). Had fried rice mixed with fried noodles, Sichuan boiled fish, pork with mountain vegetables, chicken with mushrooms, fried cabbage & other vegetables & dry pork ribs; the dishes were so interesting that I added some on. The carbs were decent & the dishes were pretty tasty. The fact that they don't have labels for the items suggests that the menu changes regularly, so it should pay to drop by regularly as you'll probably see something new. I went on a Friday & was told that from Tuesday to Thursday they have even more dishes.

First time ate here last week. ordered noodles with chicken and veggies. Taste is good but the noodles are way too greasy. too much oil. Chicken I got was mostly bones. I guess for $13 you can't ask much...

A nice place, waiters are very attentive, food is fantastic and the choice is diverse. I took the bean jelly, the jelly itself doesn’t have any taste but the sauce is nice. Soup was fantastic, all the noodles and the broth. Even the water they give is not from tap, tastes nice. Prices are very fair for the downtown, i was pleasantly surprised. Washroom needs a better cleaning, i don’t think they washed floors there since the opening of the place. Hope that changes. Overall, enjoyed the experience and will come again.

We came to Mogouyan for lunch on a cold day. We arrived just as they were opening, which was good because they have limited tables, and it quickly got quite busy with the lunch rush. The service was quick and the food was very good. I preferred the noodle with minced beef paste over beef noodle soup with pickle. I just found the soup a bit too salty for my taste. That might have been from the pickled veg. Overall, we had a good experience, and I would try Mogouyan again for a quick lunch.

This was my first time at Miss Fu, and I’m so glad I discovered such an amazing gem of a restaurant so close to my office. My colleague who recommended the place (very highly) took me during our work lunch break. Maomao was our server, and he was very friendly and quick. The 2 of us ordered a few dishes to share including the Chongqing Crispy Chicken Breast, Braised Quail Eggs, and Chongqing Hot & Sour Sweet Potato Noodle. The chicken breast was my favorite by far. It was literally mouthwateringly flavourful and spicy. The braised quail eggs were a very close second. I was curious to try them, because I had never tried quail eggs before, and they did not disappoint. Lastly we got the noodles, which were very good, but definitely tough to share. Then for desert we got the Fried Brown Sugar Rice Cake, which was a very unique experience. The consistency, and flavor, was totally unexpected, but in a great way. As someone with a sweet tooth, it was a fun experience to try something new. I’d definitely get it again.

AMAZING. It’s hard to find an authentic Chinese restaurant in the city, but this one is the real deal. Every dish we had was delicious, their Chongqing style pork is honestly even better than the ones in China. Restaurant is also similar to the ones you’d find in China; ordering from a QR code, portable phone chargers, and the smell of numbing spice. Definitely in my top choices for Chinese food in the city, I’ll be back to try more.

Ordered food from Asian Fusion for the first time through a delivery app. Food arrived hot. It was good. Portion size was okay. The could have filled the container more. But price was decent for what you got. Overall, no real complaints.

I ordered the sweet n sour pork with steamed rice and it was delicious. Even the rice was perfectly cooked, the amount of sauce was enough for the dish. I will be trying other dishes next time I go. The service was quick and the owners were kind.

The hot pot was good! The tomato soup has a hint of tangy to it but not spicy and was delicious. I enjoyed the skewers concepts it made it easier and faster to eat they’re very convenient. This has probably been my fifth time here. They have a really good variety of vegetables and seafood as well as assorted meats

My friend has lived in Chengdu and so we were really excited to try this restaurant. This place’s ambiance was bright, and it was clean. We didn’t know whether to seat ourselves as no one greeted us at first until we walked to a table. At this point, a server confirmed that we can take a seat at the table we walked up to. We ordered the double soup bases which included the spicy. We picked the summer lemon soup base for the second one. We love spicy food and my friend told me that this place was very authentic and spot on in terms of the Chengdu flavour profile. We really liked how everything was skewered which made it a lot easier for us to pick out the meats from the soup. The summer lemon soup base was a great complement to the spicy soup. It really helps cut the spiciness and it was a light broth with lots of flavour and a refreshing citrus taste. The summer lemon was also great for the seafood and the vegetables and we kept the spicy for all the meats. They have a wide selection of meats, seafood, vegetables and noodles. You also get to make your own sauce mix for dipping. Overall, the food was 5/5. The service itself could’ve been better as it felt like the staff weren’t particularly attentive. The rice wasn’t refilled as well as the condensed milk. One of us had to scrape the condensed milk container and the staff saw this but didn’t proceed to refill.

Small shop in a tiny plaza run by just one person serving up warm herbal soup noodle. This place seems more of a take out spot but I sat down to eat. The owner made me feel welcomed and made sure to check up on me. He even warned me when I have ordered too much. You can tell he cares for people and not just here to make money. I’ll definitely come back if I’m ever in the area.

Tender well braised meat in warm noodles. Very difficult to find in Toronto. They do an amazing job balancing the favours in it. Not too salty and very fragrant. No werid off meat smell or taste that is usually found.

We got Steamed Chicken on Rice, and their Congee + Gourmet Dish Combo. The Steamed Chicken on Rice came in great portion, Chicken was tender, paired with Steamed Rice (our only complaint). Pork Liver Congee and Chow Mein with Soya Sauce was AMAZING for the price, the Congee was thick yet smooth, it had an INSANE amount of Pork Liver, paired with Chow Mein that was cooked beautifully and packed Wok Hey, loved it!

Good price, decent portion. We went on the weekend morning. They have the combo special which is good. Decent portion and staffs are friendly and polite. There are parking lot beside it but I am not sure if it’s paid parking or free of charge as the signage is not very clear.

Small takeout shop in somewhat older building. But inside front area kept clean, and smells yummy when you walk in. Very friendly front counter service. The spicy oil liangpi was quite tasty, with some bitter veggie that goes well with the style of noodles, although a bit salty for my personal preference I would definitely try to eat again. The lamb mo was also quite tasty. Happy with the 2 liangpi & 2 roumo I got.

This was a fantastic experience, one of the best noodle dishes I’ve had in a long time. The Liangpi was sooo fresh, soft, bouncy, chewy, and just the right amount of spice. Absolutely blown away how good it was. Also ordered the Lamb Mo and it was unreal, sooo simple, sooo good! This place is a hidden gem for sure!

Congee Wong's food is good and very consistent. I've never been disappointed coming here. The portions are large and the dishes are made really quickly. Service is speedy and staff are nice. The congee, chow mein, king oyster mushrooms, pork chops were delicious. The food isn't too salty and the sauces are flavourful. The prices are pretty good too with each dish being around $20, but they're definitely made for sharing.

This spot has been a neighborhood staple for a couple of decades and is one of the original locations that helped lay the foundation for what eventually became the Congee Queen empire. The menu is nearly identical to what you’d find at CQ, and the consistency in quality across all their locations is a testament to why they’ve been so successful. On this visit, we ordered Singapore Noodles (extra spicy), 6 Grain Fried Rice, Spicy Salt Squid, and Stir-Fried Green Beans with Olives and Ground Pork—classic Cantonese favorites that never fail to deliver. One thing that always stands out is the unmistakable “wok hei”—the smoky aroma and flavor that’s a hallmark of great Cantonese stir-frying. Each dish arrived piping hot, perfectly seasoned, and prepared with care. After 30 years of dining at their various locations, I can confidently say we’ve never had a bad meal here. The portions are generous, and the prices remain very reasonable, making it an excellent choice for both casual meals and family gatherings. Pro tip—bring cash for an extra 10% off your bill! This place continues to prove why it’s a cornerstone of the local dining scene and a go-to spot for authentic Cantonese comfort food.

This fast food has a wide menu and pleasing service. The Vegetarian delight rice noodle soup now at $10.50 is a big serving with plenty of veggies, mushrooms, tofu and more. Tasty and come with a HK Milk tea. Competitive pricing. The chairs in the food court, however always make noisy squeaky sound when moved. This makes the dinning experience uncomfortable.

We’ve been going here for a few years now :) Food is always received promptly, and flavour is consistently good. Our go-to’s are the salt and pepper deep fried fish, spicy tofu with salt and egg-shrimp on top of rice. The ladies that work there are so nice to us!
