Ginger Chinese Restaurant
The vegetarian options are really good; the boneless ribs are decent; but I didn’t care for the shrimp & broccoli. Best part: it’s the closest to the Holiday Inn so it’ll do. Prices are very reasonable and service is efficient. I would go back if I’m in the area again.
Ginger Chinese takeout, on Rt 9, just north of the Spackenkill road exits has been a staple at that location for maybe 15 years. It is consistently a great answer to not cooking and enjoying a steaming plate of your favorite dish, which we normally would not cook ourselves. I tend to be a little boring with my chicken and broccoli, but lately I’ve added extra broccoli and mixed vegetables, and it is delicious every time. Some of my extras might be their spare ribs, also tasty, and sometimes fried dumplings, extra crispy, again very tasty. Their won ton soup is also much better than most. A few years ago the business changed hands, and I have to say the new owners are constantly improving the place, it’s clearly evident if you’ve been a long time customer, and these changes are all for the better. They’ve added an exotic fish tank to the ambiance which is a welcome change to stare at instead of your phone while you wait for your food. Dinner last night was great ! I’ll be back.
No.1 Chinese Restaurant
I love this place. I have always been a fan of Chinese food and have eaten Chinese food from many different places (Toronto has the worst Chinese food i've ever eaten do not order Chinese food if you visit Toronto, Canada). This restaurant is my go to because the food is amazing and they have great consistency in taste, texture, and flavor with each dish so that when i order I know exactly what i'm getting. Love this place, 10/10 food and amazing service.
I wouldn't eat in or take out. The dining area is extremely small and uncomfortable. Very close to the door. Not clean. The food was subpar. They've gone downhill. Idk if it was an off day for them, but when it comes to serving food to your customers there shouldn't be any of those. We got 2 orders of Shrimp Fried Rice. The Shrimp wasn't cooked in either of them and just about raw nor seared brown on the sides as SFR is supposed to be. The onions and peas weren't fully cooked either and quite hard. Rice wasn't cooked right, either. We got stomachaches from a few bites. Terrible experience. Definitely wouldn't recommend their Shrimp Fried Rice or Spring rolls (not fresh).
King Chef
The beef in the broccoli was entirely too thick and tough and fatty I feel like I wasted my money
I was looking to try a new Chinese Food restaurant, and decided to give King Chef a chance. I am so glad I did!!! The food was the best Chinese food I've had in Poughkeepsie. Highly recommend! 👌👌👌
China Max
Though derided as "food court Americanized Chinese," I've always liked China Max's combination of spicy chicken & vegetables over fried rice. Many flavors rolled into one clamshell! Their soups are also welcome when desiring lighter fare.
really happy with the portion i got for just over $10 I had the bbq pork, noodles and green beans all pretty good, the green beans were excellent. Mall food court is not my usual thing, but from this kiosk the service was great, definitely a value for my money.
Palace Dumpling
I haven’t been to this new location, and it’s a nice space. The star is the food…wow. I was pleasantly surprised how tasty and authentic the dumplings are as well as the sesame noodles (which are served cooled down). I spent 10 months in the middle of China and what I enjoyed tonight was the real deal. Even my mom doesn’t cook like this! Worth a visit!
This place is slowly slipping. Maybe it's because they get a lot of students so they are too busy but it's losing its authenticity. The noodles and dumplings however are still good because of the homemade dough. I also like the interior set up more today than when they first opened. I wouldn't recommend it for big parties tho, at most 6 people. I always get the wood-ear/agair appetizer and this time the taste was very off, it was bland with no horseradish and had a hint of dish detergent. We are a table of 4 adults, if we all eat one piece and I say the taste is weird, try another one, that's 8 pieces gone. I asked to either get another dish or be compensated. The owner told us we ate too much of it to be compensated (the picture is a full dish). On top of that, she avoided us during checkout when we went to pay our $130 dollar lunch. I was actually shocked at the treatment and the pettiness over a $6.99 dish. Needless to say I will not be returning and warning on their agair veggie app. You'll catch me exclusively at the Wappingers location now.
Island House Caribbean restaurant
Island House came recommended, & their jerk chicken didn't disappoint! Best smoky flavor & dry rub I have had in a long time. Just a touch of jerk sauce is obligatory, & it balanced everything out. Great way to celebrate Juneteenth! And don't tell anyone, but I went & enjoyed my meal at the laundromat next door.
I was so disappointed. For the price I paid for my oxtails… I expected to get some that had meat on them. I was charged more then 20$ for a plate of rice with a couple oxtails which barely had any meat. Not to mention the rice and cabbage tasted funky. It ended up in the trash.
Gino’s Pizza & Restaurant
Vegan options are pretty limited but, having any at all is an incredible treat so we were thrilled to find this charming little stop during our trip. Between The delicious options and the friendly service, the kids were disappointed that we weren't returning the second day but, I like to venture to new places. The waitress couldn't have been kinder and the food was exceptionally quick to come out. Portions were generous and prices were reasonable. Definitely worth the stop!
This pizza was terrible! Is it even possible to get good pizza in Poughkeepsie? I'll start with the good. My wife and I had never eaten from Gino's before. I checked out the reviews and figured we'd give them a shot. I called and a very pleasant young lady answered the phone. I want to ask if they delivered and if I could pay over the phone. I thanked her and told that I would call be with my order shortly. I called back roughly 10 minutes later. We ordered a large pizza with half grilled chicken and all onion. We also ordered wings well done. The total came to 45 dollars (45.00 for pizza and some wings?) And 8.00 for the tip. I'm now getting ready for what I am hoping is great pizza. As soon as I opened the box, I knew that things were going down hill from there. Get bigger boxes! The pizza was slightly folded over because the box was too small. Two thirds of the crust was brown, the other third was white. Don't ask. The onions were enormous chunks. (A little pizza with my onions please.) The GRILLED chicken was white. The chicken was thrown into a pan with absolutely no seasoning. Now, here comes the good part. What do you think happened when we went to grab a couple of slices? You got it! Most of the topping ended up in the middle of the box. This pizza couldn't have been more bland. Never again! The wings were decent. I'll give them a six. The young lady remained pleasant when I called back and the delivery guy was pleasant as well. This is by far the longest review that I have ever submitted.
Hellshire Cuisine
Took the family out for a late lunch and ice cream. Food was great and great quality. Ice cream phenomenal. You can find a place anymore that makes their own ice cream. This place does and is every bit high quality. Highly recommend if your in the mood for something different and want a nice Caribbean meal.
Thank you to the 2 lovely ladies that help us today, The oxtail was amazing with the white rice and plantains, the curry goat taco and jerk-chicken taco were amazing, I definitely recommend coming here. We are definitely coming back to try all the other foods. Very delicious.
Twisted Soul
SUCH good and flavorful food! Everything from the sauces to the fresh veggies to the perfect egg placed on top was so. good. Definitely recommend this place!
Delicious food! I’ve ordered the Vassar Noodle Bowl, the Pineapple Soul Smoothie, the BBQ Pulled Pork Banh Mi, and the BBQ Pulled Pork and Korean Grilled Tofu Steamed Buns. Everything was absolutely delicious, and my friends have tried other dishes and drinks they also loved. A big thank you to Twisted Soul for hosting at Tasty Tuesday at Vassar. I highly recommend them and can’t wait to try more dishes in the future!
Tiwantiwa African kitchen
Today I tried some egusi & fufu topped w/ goat meat. Not too familiar w/ western African food, it was a flavor experience unlike any I've ever had, bursting w/ savoriness. It paired beautifully w/ Zobo herbal drink. Two meals for the price of one! I'm glad this restaurant is located downtown instead of a suburban shopping plaza. Slight minus points for not having indoor seating, but I'll be back anyway!
I was a bit skeptical because of my other experiences with African restaurants. To my greatest surprise, the food was so delicious. The jollof rice, egusi and fufu was so yummy. Visit this place and you will be satisfied with a money well spent
Dhaniya Mirch | The Real Taste of India
I finally stopped this evening after returning books at the library. They’re located right across the street on the corner. You really can’t miss them with their neon lights. They not only have good I takeout food, they also have groceries, of which I appreciated being able to buy buttermilk. Tonight I had their homemade mango lassi which can easily match those in a fancy restaurant, and their butter chicken with rice. The flavor was lovely and portion was generous enough for me. Next time I'll have the rice be separate from the main dish. I wasn’t sure if they sold a platter, as I would have enjoyed some naan. No matter…I plan to return to enjoy their other offerings.
I just stopped by today. I’m on a mission to learn how to cook Indian food (pasty white girl here). The owner helped me pick out the right spices and I also picked up some awesome vegetable samosas!! They also have a great selection of homemade Indian food to go including an Indian Protein Bowl!! The place is spotless! Right across from the library in Poughkeepsie!!
Mill House Brewing Company
To give this establishment 5 stars would be a drastic understatement. While visiting the area from upstate, my girlfriend and I unexpectedly stopped in for lunch. We were greeted with a smile and sat immediately. Our server was attentive and on point during the entire visit. The food was amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to have a good meal and enjoy a great atmosphere. It appears they also have a private area upstairs for events, which only adds to the value. I’m sure the night life here is very enjoyable! Would definitely visit again if I am in the area.
Such a great resteraunt! The servers are great, and so is the food. I recommend their burgers. The atmosphere is very unique with multiple floors and cool decor. Highly recommended!
