Thai Spice Restaurant

336reviews

Decent Thai food overall. I ordered the chicken pad Thai, beef pad Khing, and mango sticky rice. The pad Thai was very good, but the pad Khing did not have the best flavor. The mango sticky rice was decent but a bit too sweet, and the mango wasn’t ripe enough, making it slightly chewy. However, I’ve had other dishes from this restaurant at catered events at Vassar, and those were all delicious. I don’t remember all the dishes, but the chicken satay and Thai spring rolls were very good. I think this restaurant has some great options, and I’ll definitely return to try more.

We ordered red curry with chicken and green curry with beef. Let me tell you... the curry was watery and lacked flavor. The devil himself could never make food this foul. The chicken looked bland. Veggies were soggy and tasted old. I tried to feed this to my pet pig, and she refused (just kidding but seriously). The diabolical thing is- this is the third time we gave Thai Spice a chance. The first time, the food was just as disgusting. The second time we went in person and the food was great. Perhaps, when you order food online, they water down the ingredients, but if you dine-in, they cook it well..idk. This third time, the food is absolutely disgusting. Red curry is supposed to be RED, not pink. I will not be returning a fourth time and certainly will not recommend this place to anyone.

TOMO Asian Fusion

Great atmosphere & great service. However salmon sushi didn’t taste like regular salmon, there was no salmon flavor at all. Not sure what happened there. We were charged 20% tip for a group of 6 of us, 20% is more than the normal of 15-18%. We mostly got hibachi rice with steak but the steak was cubed and tough to chew, I left a good amount of steak to bring home for my dog. The salmon was also dry as hell and small for their hibachi rice with salmon.

I am NOT the type to write reviews unless it’s for something extraordinary or out right terrible. But having JUST left the restaurant I had felt inclined to write this review. Food: I had gotten the Wasabi Shumai. I had expected something different, which is a fault on myself for having higher expectations, but what I didn’t expect is a shumai I wouldn’t be able to eat without tearing up. It’s not like I am not experienced with wasabi or horseradish, so the fact that I actually started coughing and tearing up while eating it wasn’t pleasant. Pairing that with a peanut based sauce wasn’t what I had planned for flavor pairing either. Which also that sauce was pretty watery. What I suspect is that they mix their wasabi into the steamed wrapper for the shumai, IF they even make that, and into the meat mixture itself. The steaming on the shumai was a bit over but honestly that’s forgivable as everyone makes that mistake. I had also gotten the Salmon Lovers Sushi Entree, which honestly wasn’t the worst. I come from a more rural part of Florida so I’m used to not the best quality sushi sets and all you can eat places. So for me to even be writing this review feels out of character, but the rice wasn’t seasoned well. The nori was chewier than I preferred. The quality of the fish was perfectly acceptable, but even good fish paired with less than subpar rice can not be saved. I had also found some pin bones, but honestly that’s not really a deal breaker for me. Service: Honestly, it was fine service. Would I give it five stars? No. There was nothing that blew me out of my mind, it was just an OK service. Waiter was nice for the few seconds I interacted with them. Atmosphere: I would love to know the size of that kitchen as there seemed to not be that many tables and a full sized bar. It felt both crowded and not at the same time. The decor is cute and Asian inspired, but it really just felt like a leaning towards Japanese decor rather than a cohesive fusion of cultures.

Dumpling King

29reviews

Upon entering King Dumpling I was greeted with grace. I felt welcomed immediately. The pan seared dumplings were good but the ramen was even better. A bit pricey but I would go back. Very clean and nice atmosphere. I would recommend this restaurant.

the restaurant looks very nice but the quality of the food does not match the price i got dumplings that tasted like meatballs and reminded me of frozen pot stickers i had gotten in the past and i was very disappointed. ramen was okay but not worth $20. the employees stared at me when i walked in and did not help me until their boss told them to, but the main problem is the quality of the food not matching the price. i know a lot more restaurants in the area that are more affordable for better quality.

Amazing pho and Bun Bo Hue!!! I’ve had so many bun bo hue across the country, and this place ranks up there. The broth is so flavorful and unexpected given the location. I would highly recommend, prices are reasonable enough ~$15 for Bun Bo Hue before tax and tip. The grilled pork rolls were also solid.

Amazing authentic pho. The summer rolls are delicious too. Interior is not fancy but food is heartwarming on a cold winter day

Tokyo Express

I love Tokyo Express! I ordered the Maki Combo Set: B and a side of fried rice. From the A+B+C, I chose the salmon roll and dragon roll. I have had other lunch specials and dishes which were also very delicious. Theres plenty for anyone! The boba teas are also very good, and the staff is friendly. The atmosphere of this cute, tiny restaurant is not overwhelming; it's very comfortable and sets a perfect vibe. I highly recommend it. UPDATE: I’ve recently had the Special Lobster Roll, Sushi Deluxe, and hot pot with udon noodles which were all very delicious

Amazing food. I stopped here while on lunch at work. I ordered the volcano rolls sushi and chicken teriyaki and miso soup. The wait was quick. The food was phenomenal. I’ve passed this place multiple times and I’m not quite sure why I never tried it before. I’m glad I finally tried it I will definitely be going back.

Sushi Village

I enjoyed this Godzilla Roll for its hearty warm flavor & deep-fried texture, though personally I thought the constituent seafood would be fried, & then wrapped into a roll. Either way, it's likeable fusion cuisine! I've also enjoyed their all-you-can-eat Japanese food special in the past, w/ former co-workers.

Went in for a lunch buffet of all you can eat. Loved every min! The sashimi was perfect.

Palace Dumpling

I haven’t been to this new location, and it’s a nice space. The star is the food…wow. I was pleasantly surprised how tasty and authentic the dumplings are as well as the sesame noodles (which are served cooled down). I spent 10 months in the middle of China and what I enjoyed tonight was the real deal. Even my mom doesn’t cook like this! Worth a visit!

This place is slowly slipping. Maybe it's because they get a lot of students so they are too busy but it's losing its authenticity. The noodles and dumplings however are still good because of the homemade dough. I also like the interior set up more today than when they first opened. I wouldn't recommend it for big parties tho, at most 6 people. I always get the wood-ear/agair appetizer and this time the taste was very off, it was bland with no horseradish and had a hint of dish detergent. We are a table of 4 adults, if we all eat one piece and I say the taste is weird, try another one, that's 8 pieces gone. I asked to either get another dish or be compensated. The owner told us we ate too much of it to be compensated (the picture is a full dish). On top of that, she avoided us during checkout when we went to pay our $130 dollar lunch. I was actually shocked at the treatment and the pettiness over a $6.99 dish. Needless to say I will not be returning and warning on their agair veggie app. You'll catch me exclusively at the Wappingers location now.

Ginza sushi & Cajun seafood

97reviews

The gals and I had a late night out, we were so excited to see Ginza was open late because we love sushi. We got the all you can eat option for $34.95 per person which is a steal!! Our waitress was amazing, so attentive and polite. The presentation of all the food was exceptional. The seafood was so fresh it melted in your mouth. I was surprised to see they had a Maya Roll, of course I had to get it. We ordered quite a lot of food and finished it all, it was that good. I’m going to tell everyone about this place and I am definitely coming back soon! Thank you for a great time!

This is the best sushi place in town hands down. Everything is super fresh and done to perfection. My favorites are the Chicken Satsu bento box (family size feeds 3 people) and all of their rolls! See the photos attached. 5 stars in every way :)

Akbar’s Takeout

25reviews

About a year ago I was practically living in Poughkeepsie. I am talking 24/7 for several weeks. I ate breakfasts, lunches and dinners at Akbar’s almost daily. Everything I ordered was always delicious and prepared by some of the friendliest and most genuine people you will ever have the pleasure to meet. If you are in the area you must give them a chance and if you are not in the area, find a reason to be there. You won’t regret it!!

Ordered 2 hot dogs w/ spicy mustard and a banana pudding. The hot dogs are fresh and cooked nicely, made to order.

Empire Jamaica Fusion Restuarant

The kindest woman Michelle! She opened her restaurant to us on New Year’s Day while they were closed and cooked us the best meal. My boyfriend and I are vegan and love trying vegan food in our area, so she was very accommodating! The food was delicious and her hospitality was very special and welcoming to us. Additionally, the restaurant was very clean and comfortable which is incredible. We will come back again because we know it’ll be worth it 🩷🍽️😋

Incredibly great food nestled away here in Poughkeepsie. I’ve had Jamaican food all over here and none of these spots can compete with Empire Fusion. If you are craving authentic great Jamaican food, you won’t regret coming here. The restaurant is spotless, the owner is very nice, and her food is out of this world. I got the Oxtails, peas and rice, sweet plantain, and steamed veggies. My Wife had the Jerk Chicken. Everything tasted amazing!! I will definitely be back as I’m dying to try her Mac and Cheese again (it was sold out). 5 Star

MOMO GARDEN

So pretty! This place is so elegant and aesthetically pleasing. There’s a beautiful bar and private rooms in the back for parties. We had amazing customer service—they started us off with tea. We had the chicken biryani, chicken dumplings, noodles, and mango lassi. The food was so yummy!

I had the Nepali Platter, and it was a delightful journey back to the flavors of Nepal, right here in Poughkeepsie. The spiced, flavorful meats beautifully captured the essence of Nepalese cuisine, while the roasted puffed rice added the perfect touch to the vibrant dishes. Take a little bit of everything in one bite, and let the magic unfold. A truly unforgettable treat for the taste buds!

Tasty Crab House

511reviews

We had a really great dinner here! Our server Thomas was phenomenal!! One of the main reasons I’d come back would be for him!! He took very good care of us. The seafood is fresh and delicious. If cracking open crab legs seems like a hassle this place isn’t for you. I recommend getting the tasty special on your seafood boils, it’s a game changer. I will definitely be back!

🦀 Food Super delicious and rich seafood. I highly reccomend the combo dishes as you get so much food in the order. 3 seafoods, an egg, 2 potatos, and a corn (depending on which combo you get). You also get to choose what sauce you want and spice level. We chose combo #3 with a lobster tail, sausage, and shrimp (has shell on). Highly reccomend the oyster basket mainly because the meat was so silky. I usually get bad experiences with oysters since they are usually not fresh and stinky. However, here... amazing!! The dessert was ok, we ordered a tuxedo bombe, and the peanut butter explosion. The tuxedo bombe was light and airy and chocolate flavored. Though the peabut butter explosion was really rich, and a bit too sweet for us. But never be afraid to try a new food! You're provided with a bib, gloves, a wet wipe, and a big bucket for your shell waste. 👋 Service Great service, waitress was very attentive. They also speak Chinese there! :) Very friendly staff and even explained the menu to us first-timers. One of our desserts was on the house due to the fact that it was in celebration of my bday. They out a big sparkler on the dessert and played music, haha 😆 ✨️ Atmosphere A very funny environment. Led lights in the lobby and even in the bathroom. There was graffiti everywhere, which I found amusing. It's a casual place to celebrate an occasion or just have a full stomach and your soul fufilled!
