Peking Restaurant
Old school, hole-in-the-wall, yes it's all true and I love it that way. It's not the type of place that tries to impress you with fancy decor or trendy food, but instead relies on their quality, nostalgic-style dishes. For this reason, Peking Restaurant is, hands down, my favorite Chinese food in Orange County. Excellent food that my family and I have enjoyed repeatedly at Peking Restaurant: honey walnut shrimp, sesame chicken (just as flavorful as orange chicken and sweet & sour chicken, but for some reason underrated. It's not really all that spicy, despite the name), chop suey, steamed dumplings, beef roll/Lu-Lee roll, fried rice, chicken with mushrooms, pan fried beef noodle, mu shu pork. This restaurant knows how to make these classics just right, and your group will feel at home in their humble, family-friendly dining area. There is a sign at the front desk that you can avoid extra fees if you pay in cash. Since I always go for takeout however, ordering online requires a credit card and I've not yet found an option that lets me order online and still pay in cash at the restaurant. This is apparently their preferred form of payment, so bring plenty of cash if you plan to order in person or dine in.
Old school chinese restaurant. Onion pancake was so dam good!!! Yall gtta try it! Also portions are big enough for 3 or 2 hungry ppl... they give a hot bowl of rice tgats big enough to share with 3 peoplššš„¹š„¹š
Crystal Dumplings
If youāre in the mood for some legit dumplings at a great price, Crystal Dumpling delivers. You order at the counter and wait for your food, which is super chill once you figure out how the setup works, itās a bit confusing when you first walk in. The food? Solid. Authentic flavors that hit the spot. Their milk tea and iced tea are great, too. That said, everything comes in plastic to-go containers, which feels a little excessive. I get it, itās convenient, but Iād love to see the owners consider more sustainable options. Now, about the chili oil. I ordered the wontons chili oil, and they were good, but the portion of chili oil was tiny. Like, enough for one or two dips, and itās gone. When I asked for more, I had to pay extra. I donāt mind paying, but cāmon, itās wontons in chili oil, make it generous! On the upside, the staff is friendly, so no complaints there.
If youāre in the mood for some quick and casual dimsum, this place satisfies the cravings. We ordered the pork & shrimp shu mai, shrimp rice rolls, bbq pork buns, and spicy wontons which were all decent. The HK lemon ice tea was good too!
The Dim Sum Co.
We were in town for a business conference without a personal vehicle. Wish we had known beforehand that this "restaurant" is TAKEOUT only! Pictures online looked like the potential to sit down and dine. The food that we ordered was decent, even though it was lukewarm by the time we returned with the food to our hotel. The Crescent Dumplings were not as crispy as I've experienced from other dim sum places, it was thick and gooey/glutinous. We ordered Pork & Shrimp Dumplings (large and meat filled), Shrimp Dumplings (large shrimp filling but dumpling skin does not fare well as takeout), Turnip Cake (creamy texture with adequate filling), Taro Puff (tasty though wish they were eaten hot and fresh), Crescent Dumplings (shell was not crispy and was too thick), Chow Fun (noodles had a good flavor and chewy texture), Lotus Sticky Rice (good sticky rice with some filling), Vietnamese Ice Coffee (was too chocolate-y in flavor not the sweetened espresso flavor we expected).
This is a place where you can get your quick fix for dim sum. Food is pretty decent here for a togo only place. I usually get the typical dim sum items like shrimp dumpling (har gow), shrimp rice paper, fried shrimp and chive, and pork and shrimp dumpling (xiu mai). Items I don't like as much: Fried BBQ Bun - had a sweet flavor, so it tasted odd as a savory food item. Chow fun was really bland. Same with fried rice, but technically you can add soy sauce to enhance the flavor.
Kyodong Jjamppong GG Lee Mangu
For years I've been watching Korean elders come here after church and almost exclusively order the red soup. Finally decided to try it myself and unfortunately it doesn't quite match with my tastes. The soup tasted very bland, although there was plenty of chili. The ingredients were fresh and it was a very voluminous dish. Fell short for me on taste though. I'll try something else down the road.
A hidden gem of delicious Korean food! Located sneakily inside of the grocery store and in the corner of a seemingly empty food court, this place will treat you right, and more. Black Bean Noodle: Get! This is what you're here for and it's so delicious. Coat your noodles in this soft and savory sauce you'll be coming back for seconds in no time Spicy Seafood Noodle: Get? It's PACKED with seafood flavor and spiciness and gives you that real authentic Korean seafood soup taste. The only downside is that it packs a punch and if you are brave enough to take a sip that soup, you might need a glass of milk nearby just in case Fried Pork: Skip It's still tasty but I wish it was crispier and more savory Food: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Value: 7/10
Northern Cafe
It's an almost fully self-service spot, which is great, but may not be what some are looking for. They have a number of great dishes and I love the flavor of their dumpling sauce.
If you're looking for a flavor-packed adventure, look no further than Northern Cafe at UCI! I tried their spicy beef hot pot and sour vegetable noodle soup, and letās just say: my taste buds went on a rollercoaster ride of excitement. The spicy beef hot pot? Itās like a warm hug with a little bit of sass. Tender beef swimming in a bubbling cauldron of spiceā itāll make you break a sweat in the best way possible. Itās fiery enough to make you feel like youāve earned that second bowl of rice, but not so hot that you regret it immediately (looking at you, other spicy foods). And then there's the sour vegetable noodle soup. It's like the perfect mix of tang and zest that makes you feel like you've just won a flavor jackpot. The noodles were just the right amount of chewy, and the sourness of the broth had that "I canāt stop slurping" effect. Honestly, it felt like a rejuvenating spa day for my soul, except with more noodles and less cucumber water. All in all, Northern Cafe isnāt just a place to eat ā itās a spicy, sour, and soul-satisfying experience. Youāll leave with a smile on your face and a satisfied stomach... and maybe a slight craving for another round of that spicy beef hot pot.
Bristol Food Court
This cozy place brings you a bit taste of Asian, Mexican, Thai, and Korean food. Food is pretty good here nice and clean place for the family I highly recommend this place. They have a lot of dish options.
It has been over 10 years I had not visited this place and they still have my two favorite restaurants:). But the food court can use an upgrade.
Yummy Noodle
Exploring Yummy Noodle: A New Hand-Pulled Noodle restaurant in Fountain Valley Just a few streets away from my friendās house in Fountain Valley, a new Lanzhou hand-pulled noodle restaurant called Yummy Noodle has opened about three months ago. Being a noodle lover, I decided to gather some friends and check it out. At Yummy Noodle, you can choose from three types of noodles: hand-pulled (fresh), knife shaved, and wide noodles. I went with the wide one for my Dan-Dan noodle, and I have to say, the texture was just perfectāchewy and satisfying. Our group of four ordered a variety of dishes, and overall, we enjoyed our order, especially considering the reasonable prices. However, I wouldn't recommend the Shanghai juicy dumplings, as they were quite average. what we ordered: - **Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Noodles ($15.49)**: Two of my friends chose the fresh hand-pulled noodles. They both loved how the noodles paired with the flavorful broth and the six slices of beef. - **Dan Dan Noodle ($12.99)**: The flavor was great, the portion was generous, and it wasn't spicy at all, which was a plus for me. - **Spicy Wontons in Chili Oil (10 pieces, $9.99)**: These were small in size but tasty, and the chili oil wasnāt too spicy, which made it quite enjoyable. - **Steamed Chicken ($9.99)**: I liked it and ordered an extra to-go and pair with some sliced cucumber. - **Shanghai Soup Dumplings (8 pieces, $11.99)**: These were pretty average and didn't taste handmade, so I wouldn't recommend this one. The dining space is quite spacious, and the food came out quickly. The staff was friendly and could speak Chinese and English, which made ordering easy. Given that there aren't many places like this around the area, I've already made a return visit! šYummy Noodle 9965 Ellis Ave, Fountain Valley, CA 92708
03/25 Restaurant has been closed since end of 2024. At that time, you could still see in and the equipment and tables still present. Today, plastic sheets over the windows, no sign of existence. No idea if it's still temporarily closed or permanently. No sign indicating status. 10/24 Fast food restaurant-like interior with bare concrete floors. Freshly-made, hand-pulled noodles being made behind the glass divider wall. Food has a good taste versus many American-Chinese restaurants for the authentic flavor. That said, it's not a full-on Chinese restaurant, so temper expectations. For example, special combo chow mein was flavorful and tasty, but skimping a bit on the quantity of vegetables and meats. You can add extra bok choy, if you want. Or Chinese pancakes. Yummy, but there's local alternatives that have bigger servings. Dumplings and Chinese pancakes were perfectly fine and tasty. Chow mein a touch on the saltier side, so ask to adjust the amount of sauce if you prefer.
Lucky Chinese Food
Food is always good. Portions are always generous. It is a CASH ONLY place, so go prepared. Edit: They have now started accepting card payments but with a fee.
I absolutely love Lucky's! They are a must stop anytime I travel home. There is always a line which means the food is fresh and hot. The ladies are helpful and kind. The servings are generous. It is a must stop! Can't go wrong, Lucky's is great any time or day.
Fortune Cookies Restaurant
I arrived after the dinner crowd had dissipated. I was a solo diner but the service I received was very attentive as if my table had more people. Service with a smile. My water glass was always full and my tea pot was always replenished with more hot water. I was really hoping the food would have been more flavorful, though. I ordered 2 dishes: Pad thai and Shrimp with lobster sauce. I was disappointed that both were pretty bland. Originally, I was going to order a sushi roll instead of the shrimp but I guess the sushi chefs had already left because I was told that I couldn't order from that part of the menu. As a solo diner, I obviously didn't finish both dishes (although I could have as I have in the past). The server was very nice and packed dishes both for me. I had finished my brown rice so I was only expecting the main dishes to be packed in boxes. When I got home, they had packed another serving of brown rice for me. That was really nice of them! Service: 5/5 stars Food: 2/5 stars
GOOD FRESH Chinese food. You can get some Chinese food that has been sitting in an aluminum container for a few hours or you can go here and get some delicious fresh Chinese food. The lunch special is one of the last deals left on Earth where you feel like you got more than you paid for. Fresh soup, fresh salad with a delicious dressing, an egg roll, rice and your entree of choice. I left there paying a little bit over $50 for three people and that was including tip.
YGF Malatang
The food is good and the prices are reasonable. They have an underground garage, so it makes it much easier to park. They do clean up regularly, but the sauce section can get pretty messy as people are messy when they scoop up the liquids. The broth flavors and ingredients are great. I recommend the bone broth. The lamb is great.
soup is amazing! and they have different events going on all the time~ sometimes you get free drinks and sometimes you get free chances to play the claw machine :) recommended
Panda Express
Always love the orange chicken and broccoli with beefā¦.though the fried rice still a bit tough š
Placed a Uber order and the noodles I received are like 75% cabbage...not cool.
佰禾ē§å» Pakwos Kitchen
The food was wonderful here and we had a great service experience. They were very helpful since we do not speak cantonese, and helped us select something good to eat late at night here since we are not local. very cute little place!
Itās my first time trying this place. I have been looking for this type of food for a long time. They serve a very good, authentic, high quality cantonese food. The menu is very creative and unique. I ordered with Silviaās help and recommendations: - Buddha over the wall: fresh, high quality, the sauce is delicate for you to tatste the quality of all the ingredients. - Fried swab: rich flavor, the skin is super crunchy outside, flavorful and juicy inside. - Cuttlefish pot: cuttlefish is crunchy, sweet, full flavor, not too much oil, very fresh. - Fried eggplants with fermented fish: this is a very authentic dish, and not for everyone. If you can appreciate the unique taste and smell of fermented fish, you should try this. This is full flavor, goes well with rice, very creative. - Tomato beef soup: clean broth, delicate, very healthy, high quality, very well balance with my other dishes. Overall, this is such a unique dining experience. The service is great, the food come out in a well time manner. I would definitely come back to check out other dishes.
