About Tim Ho Wan East Village

Welcome to Tim Ho Wan East Village, a Chinese restaurant located at 85 4th Ave in the heart of New York City. As a distinguished Chinese restaurant, Tim Ho Wan has garnered significant popularity, and notably holds a Michelin star, particularly for its exceptional dim sum offerings.

Customer reviews consistently praise the incredible flavor and high quality of the food at Tim Ho Wan. Diners note a great variety of dishes that truly stand out, with a noticeable attention to detail in every bite. Standout items frequently mentioned include the rice rolls, which are highly recommended, and the pork ribs, described as juicy and soft. The turnip cake is also lauded for its crispy exterior.

The baked BBQ pork buns appear to be a very popular item, often seen on many tables. For dessert, the custard buns are made fresh and are considered a great choice, although some customers have noted that they may take a little longer to arrive.

The elevated dining experience at Tim Ho Wan comes with a higher price point compared to other dim sum establishments in the city. As one reviewer points out, the cost reflects the Michelin star recognition and the overall quality of the food. Despite the higher prices, many feel that it is worth trying for a special occasion or when craving exceptional dim sum.

If you are in New York City and seeking a top-tier Chinese restaurant specializing in flavorful, high-quality dim sum, Tim Ho Wan East Village is a compelling option. Be prepared for a potentially higher cost, which is often associated with its Michelin-starred status. The environment is likely reflective of a well-regarded establishment, though specific details are not provided in the reviews. Services likely include dine-in, and given its popularity, reservations might be advisable. No specific promotional information was mentioned in the provided reviews. You can contact them at (212) 228-2800 or +1 212-228-2800 for inquiries or reservations.

I can see why this dim sum spot is so popular. The food is incredibly flavorful, with a great variety of dishes that truly stand out. The quality is definitely noticeable, and you can taste the care and attention to detail in every bite. That said, the price is definitely on the higher side compared to other dim sum places in the city. But, given that it has a Michelin star, I guess you’re paying for that elevated experience. Still, it’s worth trying if you’re in the mood for something special! Just be prepared to pay a bit more.

You can't go wrong with the rice rolls. Pork ribs are also juicy and soft. Turnip cake is crispy on the outside. Also saw a lot of people get the buns The dessert custard buns were made fresh. They were great but they took a while to come out.

As a dim sum lover, I had high hopes, but unfortunately, the food was just average. Some of the dumplings lacked freshness, and the flavors didn’t stand out. The service was attentive, which I appreciated, and the atmosphere had more of a Hong Kong-style café (cha chaan teng) feel—simple but clean. Overall, it was an okay experience, but not a place I’d go out of my way to revisit.

I don't understand the hype. All the items I ordered were fine, same or even a bit worst than the dim sum places in Chinatown for double the price and wait time. Honestly nothing special or unique.

This is from a dinning experience years ago, so everything could already have been changed. Take this review as a reference, but please don't rely on it. 1) I've received a bun with an insect on it. I reported, and the server took the dish back to kitchen. Later the server came back and said "it was just black stuff from the flour". Luckily, I have taken this photo, which shows the details of legs and tentacles before the server took away the dish. An occasionally found insect was not a big deal to me. I feel unsatisfied because they tried to deny. 2) I have received undercooked (partially raw) steamed pork ribs. I did not bother to report, as I was tired of restaurant's attitude.
