About Shanghai Time
Shanghai Time is a Chinese Restaurant situated at 273 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018, in the Midtown West area. This establishment offers a variety of Shanghai dishes and appears to be popular for both dine-in and takeout, especially during lunch hours.
You can contact Shanghai Time at (646) 351-6699 or their mobile number +1 646-351-6699 for reservations or takeout orders.
Based on customer reviews, Shanghai Time is particularly known for its soup dumplings, which have been described as flavorful with a good wrapper texture, surprising given the restaurant's location in a touristy area. The pan-fried pork soup dumplings are also highly recommended.
Other notable dishes mentioned include the Shanghai stir-fried rice cake and the pork chop. However, experiences with other menu items seem to vary, with one customer finding the shredded beef with hot peppers udon to be oily and the garlic cucumber salad to be bitter and lacking flavor. Additionally, there is a mention of a $1 charge for chili oil.
The service at Shanghai Time has been described as great, with staff being kind and accommodating. The restaurant space is noted to be somewhat small, and it can get crowded with both dine-in and takeout customers, potentially leading to wait times for pickup orders.
For local users seeking authentic Shanghai cuisine, especially their highly praised soup dumplings, Shanghai Time is worth considering. Be prepared for a potentially crowded environment and consider the mixed reviews on some of their other dishes.

Ordered for pick up for lunch with coworkers. My order was ready when I got there but two of my coworkers had to wait a bit. There were a lot of people waiting to pick up their orders and also people dining in. The space is a bit small and seemed like there were a lot of takeout orders. I got the shredded beef with hot peppers udon and garlic cucumber salad. They charged me a $1 for chili oil. The noodles were oily but flavored well. The garlic cucumber salad wasn’t good at all. It tasted bitter and was not flavorful at all. Coworkers seemed to enjoy their foods esp the pan fried pork soup dumplings.
Great service, all the staff were very kind and accommodating. If you decide to come here the soup dumplings are a must try!! I wish we got the pan fried ones as well The best item was definitely the soup dumplings, then the Shanghai stir fried rice cake, and lastly the pork chop. I probably wouldn’t come back but for being in such a touristy location, the soup dumplings really took me by surprise. These are some of the most flavorful soup dumplings I’ve had with a nice wrapper texture, something you don’t always see in other spots.
Very good restaurant. Our family went here since my mother likes dim-sum. Here was really great with good foods. And especially, when we found our pork dim-sum was not cooked well, they responded professionally and changed into a new one. Eventually, we enjoyed our meal at here very well.
I visited on a chilly December day and decided to warm up with some hot soup dumplings. I also tried the house special fried rice, which came with shrimp and chicken, though the chicken was a bit too chewy for my taste. It wasn’t anything extraordinary, but it was still decent. I also ordered both crab and pork, as well as regular pork soup dumplings. The broth was a bit on the sweet side for me, so I added some of the spicy chili sauce they had on the table, which was absolutely delicious. Check out my video for more details. The total for these three items came to $31.52.
The food quality is below average. I tried shredded beef noodle, which is like any other to go kinda dish. The noodle was thick and undercooked. My dumplings were delivered to another table, so I had to wait like 15 minutes extra to get mine. Dumplings are very average to me I guess they need to work more on hospitality skills. I think it’s overrated
