Master Wok Intro
Master Wok is a Chinese fast food restaurant located in Wayne, NJ 07470, USA. The provided address is not specific enough to determine if it's within a mall or a standalone location, but one review mentions a visit to the mall. They can be contacted at (973) 785-1769 or via mobile at +1 973-785-1769, suggesting they likely offer takeout services.
As a Chinese fast food restaurant, Master Wok offers a menu of typical Chinese-American dishes. A notable feature, according to customer reviews, is their General Tso's chicken, which is described as being uniquely sweet and tender without vegetables, unlike the more common spicy versions with broccoli. BBQ chicken is also mentioned as being good.
Recent reviews indicate some significant changes and concerns. One customer reported finding a staple in their son's food, raising questions about food safety and preparation. Another major point of feedback is a change in the flavor of their sauce, around December 2024, which was described as becoming mildly spicy instead of sweet, leading to a "disgusting flavor combo" and stomach discomfort for one reviewer. This customer indicated they would maintain a 1-star review until the original sauce flavor is restored.
Price increases have also been a concern, with one customer noting a substantial rise in the price of General Tso's chicken from $7 a few years ago to $13 by December 2023. This price increase was attributed to "Bidenflation" by the reviewer, who urged the owner to lower prices. Additionally, there have been complaints about the quality of their new paper bags, which are described as weak, prone to tearing and leaking, especially with sauces. One reviewer detailed instances of bags leaking onto clothes and car interiors and expressed a strong preference for the return of plastic bags, citing their durability, water resistance, and potential for free advertising with a logo.
In summary, Master Wok in Wayne, NJ, was once a favorite for its sweet General Tso's chicken. However, recent changes, including a reported staple in the food, a change to a mildly spicy sauce, significant price increases, and the use of poor-quality paper bags, have led to negative feedback from some long-time customers. Local users should be aware of these recent experiences when considering ordering from this location. There is no information about the restaurant's environment or any current promotional offers.

This was one of my favorite places to go too, But after today this will be my last😡 I went to the mall and decided to stop by like I always did to order food 🥘 food is always very good, Although this my son found a staple in his food!! They don’t even use staples!! Where did it come from?
Update 12/2024 Not sure why but the sauce flavor was recently changed this month to be mildly spicy instead of nice and sweet. This leaves a disgusting flavor combo in your mouth, nasty after taste, and actually hurts my stomach. Hopefully the owner will read this comment and bring back the classic sauce flavor and get rid of this new disgusting spicy flavor. My review will stand at 1 star till they fix this since none of their other food offerings are unique to other Chinese restaurants. I will try the only other nearby Master Wok in the Palisades Mall soon to see if they also switched to the disgusting spicy flavor or kept the delicious original flavor. Update 12/2023 Unfortunately Bidenflation has hit this location... Just a few years ago it cost $7 for general tso chicken. Today it is now $13. This is insanity. If you look at my old photos here, you can see my 2019 receipt showing $11 for a full meal of general tsos and a drink! Now just the chicken alone is $13! If the owner of this location reads this, please lower your price down to $9. When you charge double it is a slap in the face to your customers and they will go to other restaurants instead for better prices... Also.. the new paper bags are total garbage. As shown in my pics, the bags leak so if any sauces spill while carrying, it will leak right through the bag, onto your clothes and car and floor. The paper used is also super weak. So even holding it while carrying or simply trying to put a food container inside causes the bag to easily rip and tear. If sauce does leak into your bag, it will be even weaker and will most likely cause all your food to fall through the bottom of the bag and smash all over the floor. Slight update 12/30 as shown in my new video, the paper bags actually got worse.. the bottom of the bag is so weak, they now try to hold it together with a tiny piece of tape! FYI tape is plastic! Just give us real plastic bags please! PLEASE bring back plastic bags! Plastic bags are cheaper, more environmentally friendly (no trees chopped, no harsh chemicals like bleach and glue, much lighter and thinner so you can ship tons more in the same truck vs paper, much stronger so you can use it more than once) and water proof, leak proof, handles so you can easily carry it, plus if you are smart you can have the Master Wok logo on the bag so other mall patrons will see what food you got (free advertising). Delicious chinese fast food! The best here is the general tsos chicken. It is unlike any other version of general tsos because it is super sweet and tender with no vegetables instead of the more common too hot and spicy with broccoli. The bbq chicken is good too. Prices are too high! $9 for the food and almost $3 for a fountain drink.. that comes to almost $12 with tax! (Update 2023 December.. price is now $13 with no drink.. Bidenflation to the max unfortunately). A fast food meal like this should be $5 or $6 tops.
Sadly below average Overview: I saw there were few google Reviews even though they have been here for years and i figured I’ll check it out and report in Good: people were very nice and they always push the samples (I never accept and maybe I should have) - never a wait Bad - Lo mein is below average bland as ever - chicken is dry and crunchy not good - the windows aren’t clean so with the steam you can’t really see the food I had to peak in between the crack to see what I wanted - menu board could be better laid out imop Neutral - prices aren’t awful
Food is okay. The servers are nice. I got to the register and after I paid for my food, I asked for a bag to which the cashier on duty mutters something to the effect of "Like you need a bag" before pretty much shoving my food tray into the bag and crumbling the end. What confused me is that numerous people asked for a bag before I did but for some reason she chose to get lippy when I asked for one.
The head mistress at the cash register, doesn’t use gloves and will put her whole thumb in your food when checking your order. I asked for the order to be remade and she caused a scene 🤣🤣 customers are not valued here one bit. The worst part is when she pretended to not know English as I asked about her over grown YELLOW thumb nail.
