Kum Kau Intro

Kum Kau is a Chinese restaurant located at 463 Myrtle Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205, USA, primarily offering takeout services. They can be contacted at (718) 638-1850 or their mobile number +1 718-638-1850.

Based on customer reviews, Kum Kau has a history of being a popular spot for Chinese food, particularly for those associated with Pratt Institute. While the restaurant has reportedly changed owners and locations on Myrtle Avenue over time, a long-standing favorite, the roast pork bun, remains on the menu. These buns are described as large and "incredibly tasty," although one reviewer from 2024 noted that they seemed to contain less meat compared to the late 1990s. The price for 3 buns was $9.

The current location of Kum Kau is noted to be "much smaller" with no indoor or outdoor seating available for dining. However, there is a long bench inside for customers waiting for their orders. The restaurant displays a health department inspection sign with an "A" rating in the front window.

A significant point mentioned in a 2024 review is that Kum Kau still operates as a "cash only" establishment, although there is a small ATM located inside for customer convenience.

Recent feedback from November 9, 2024, suggests a potential decline in food flavor compared to "10 plus years ago," with one reviewer stating that the food bought on that date lacked much flavor.

In summary, Kum Kau is a Chinese takeout restaurant in Brooklyn with a history of serving popular items like the roast pork bun. The current location is small with no seating, operates on a cash-only basis (with an on-site ATM), and has received an "A" rating from the health department. Recent feedback indicates potential inconsistencies in food quality over time.

Kum Kau was our go-to for great Chinese food when at Pratt Institute. I know it's changed owners and location on Myrtle Avenue a few times, but was pleased to see my favorite appetizer, roast pork bun, is still on the menu. They're still big and incredibly tasty.. but there wasn't as much meat in them as back in the day (late '90s). Got 3 buns for $9. The current location is much smaller. It was busy so I guess the rest of the menu is still good, too. No seating inside or outside to eat, but has a long bench inside for people waiting for orders. Has a health department inspection sign with an A rating in the front window. Just disappointed that in 2024, I still had to pay with cash (they have a small ATM inside).

The best hands down Childhood favorite!!! And no they don't take cards and will never take cards or deliver. It's worth the trip to fort green. It's our New Year's tradition to get almost $100 worth of our favorites on the menu and that's how we end the year.

This place used to be soon good, recently I bought spareribs tips in garlic sauce .I asked to make it spicy . We'll my tips were nothing but bones and garlic sauce were not spicy, nor was there hardly any sauce which was far from garlicky. Disappointed. But I will give them another shot as we all have bad days. So I will review them again.

Miss the dinning room, but the quality is still top. Thanks for the great food. I was hoping to sit down once again, at the same spot where I met Iron Mike Tyson. So glad you guys are still there! Thank you!
