Kiku Intro

Kiku is an Asian restaurant located at 385 Rte 9W in Alpine, New Jersey. They can be contacted at (201) 767-6322 or +1 201-767-6322 and offer hibachi and sushi among their cuisine options.

Customer reviews for Kiku present a range of experiences. One reviewer highlighted the hibachi chef as great and noted the availability of parking and good initial taste of the food. However, they still rated it low due to other factors.

Another customer reported issues with the waitstaff being inattentive, taking 10-15 minutes to appear and seeming confused.

A different reviewer strongly recommended passing on this establishment, citing an overwhelming smell upon entering and an environment resembling a wedding hall rather than a hibachi restaurant, which they felt was not properly ventilated for cooking odors. This resulted in their clothes smelling of cooking fumes.

One customer expressed surprise that a significant portion (2/3) of the sushi they tried to order was unavailable, speculating that it might have been due to Sunday popularity or a fish supply problem.

Conversely, another reviewer described their experience as "very special," praising the great atmosphere. They noted that despite the large size and crowd, it didn't feel overwhelmingly busy. This customer emphasized that dining at the hibachi is more than just a meal, but a show with a personal chef at each table, making it suitable for families with children. They also mentioned that the steak was excellent.

Based on these reviews, Kiku offers hibachi and sushi in Alpine, NJ. While some customers have enjoyed the hibachi show, food taste, and atmosphere, others have reported issues with service, strong cooking odors, and the availability of sushi. The environment is described by some as resembling a wedding hall. Local users should consider these varied experiences when deciding to visit Kiku.

The hibachi chef was great! Hence the 2 stars instead of a flat 1 star review. That plus there’s parking and the food tasted good going in. The waiters are nowhere to be found. Show up after 10-15 minutes and look confused. Would highly recommend passing. This is just my experience but there is an overabundance of smell once you walk in. The place looks more like a wedding hall than a hibachi establishment and sadly isn’t set up properly to remove the cooking odor. My clothes smell and are currently in a bag waiting for me to do laundry tomorrow. 2/3 of the sushi we tried to order was out. How?! I guess Sunday is either popular or there was a problem with the fish. I don’t know. It’s a first for me. Maybe 1 or 2 types of fish could run out but the bulk? Strange… Would have been nice to find but I’m putting this on my “don’t go” list.

Very special experience. The atmosphere is great. Although the place is very large, you do not feel the other guests despite the place being crowded This is not just a meal but rather a show, a personal chef per table. Also good to come with kids. Steak is excellent 😋

Loved the food and the place. We came here after our long run, just for water, but stayed for food as well! Surprised to find this big restaurant next to a highway!

The legendary Kiku Alpine STILL lives up to its name. Today's visit was a gentle reminder why I prefer the original Alpine over the secondary Paramus. To some, they might be the "same thing," but no, they're not. The atmosphere, the food, and the service are all way better in Alpine, as if the staff are being properly watched over by the responsible manager. Since the early 90s (my first visit), the food's been great, portions are generous, and the shows are always impressive. Kiku had been one of my favorite, and it's now one of my children's favorite places to eat out. Paramus left me with bitter taste several times over the years, including messing up the reservation TWICE and making me wait for over 45 minutes, saying that my table is being setup, until they admitted that they had messed up my reservation. Both times, I ended up going to Alpine and was served right. Weird, because I'm by biased, but things just worked out the way it did.

It’s a nice place. Delicious food. I like to have sushi, sashimi and my kids love hibachi. Friendly service. Yes it’s a little slow due to not enough personal.
