The hot and sour soup was tasty. The food was fresh and the portions were good. We went during lunch time and were able to get lunch specials for the whole family, which were reasonably priced for the quantity of food you get. The server was friendly. My husband, myself, and 4 kids ranging from 11 years to 6 months all ate and were satisfied. I would recommend this place.

We're relatively new to Davis and have had many people recommended this restaurant. I'm rather particular about Chinese food (I have some Chinese in me and my grandfather was Chinese/Hawaiian and was an amazing cook). Wok of Flame won me and my boyfriend over for many reasons. We love the fact that they have traditional book style menus, the ambiance is great, the service is excellent and the food is so fresh and flavorful! We shared a plate of potsickers which were a nice size with crispy edges and the dipping sauce was divine. He had a bowl of Hot and Sour soup and I had a bowl of Egg Drop soup. They were both nice and hot and delicious. The only thing that was missing was white pepper, they don't offer it, and I believe that's the first Chinese restaurant I've been to that doesn't offer white pepper which is a staple for adding to soup. The Dynamite Beef was nice and crispy in a great sauce with crunchy veggies...a real delight. The vegetable chow mein was great as well. We both had iced teas (Oolong perhaps) and it was very refreshing. We will definitely be back, since Wok of Flame has now moved into #1 position of Chinese restaurants here in Davis... we'll bring our own white pepper...lol.

Customer service is terrible they ran out of orange chicken and just decided to not give me a side they didn’t even ask if I wanted to substitute it or anything and I ordered in person

We usually order here once every few weeks and it's been great, but this is the second time in the past few months that we've been given totally burnt and hard orange chicken. Had to dig through to get the few pieces that weren't totally overcooked. Every other item we ordered has been fine

On 12/19/23 I had the Walnut Shrimp lunch special. It was pretty tasty and there were several good size shrimp with walnuts. I have been coming here for over 20 years. Not much has changed as far as the decor and interior. I prefer Ding How over Downtown Davis Chinese restaurants because you can always easily find parking. Not so in Downtown. I also took home a few dishes plus egg rolls and pot stickers. I remembered to take pictures of all of the menu pages.

Sigh. I want to love this restaurant. This place does have an expansive vegetarian and vegan menu, and the dishes I've tried tend to be quite tasty. However, three times now I've gotten meat in my order despite ordering vegetarian items. One time was probably a misunderstanding (mistaking a veggie soup with the meaty version), but the other times were obviously due to a lack of cleanliness and/or attentiveness (scraps of meat in the item - they didn't mistakenly make a meaty version, they just didn't clean the wok). It's disappointing that the restaurant with the "best" vegetarian menu in town has such low standards. I can't recommend this place. Also, one of the waiters tends to reek of cigarettes. As in, that smell dominates all others when you're within 6 feet of him. Really puts a damper on your appetite when he brings your food. Or when he passes by your table. The service is not great in other ways, which I typically don't mind for a hole-in-the-wall place like this, but that odor is just too much.
