Hong Kong Express
Looking for a Restaurant we could sit inside to eat since we drove into town to visit family in the hospital. Did a random google search and after trying a couple other places that were only doing take out, we stumbled upon this restaurant. I have to say I’m glad we did. The people were nice and EVERYTHING was perfectly cooked and hot! I even looked back where they were cooking and it was very clean! The restaurant isn’t really fancy but it was also clean. Food tasted great too!
After many years of passing by this place, I decided to finally try it. I wish I had been coming here long ago!! The food is delicious and affordable. Portion sizes are perfect 👍. The menu is huge. However, it is mostly meat. There's only about 11 or so veggie options. More tofu dishes would be great. Either way, I'll definitely be coming back here! Pictures is the Broccoli and Bean Curd with Garlic Sauce. Comes with a side of white rice.
Four Seasons Hot Pot & Dumplings
My first experience at a hot pot place. The pork bone broth was delicious and the selection to cook in the pot was extensive. The steamed dumplings and edamame were also delicious sides. If you're in the area you should definitely check this place out. Do not let the dated sign and decor let you pass this place by. Very clean establishment.
you know when captain america goes in the protein capsule and comes out absolutely shredded? … may i introduce the meat capsule of your dreams: four seasons hot pot. the sheer quantity of meat my friends and I consumed (for the insanely reasonable price of 19.95 a person) would leave a victorian child in a state of complete organ failure. come to this place. eat your body weight in beef. become a hollywood meatsack ala chris evans. (The bathrooms are at very clean as well and the employees are nice)
Dough Zone Dumpling House San Mateo
Came here to celebrate achieving a milestone. The food is amazing and did not disappoint. My husband and I are vegetarians and we loved that there is a wide range of vegetarian options. Being new to Chinese food there are some really good options. We got the vegetarian spicy ma la noodles and the signature numbing spiciness of the Sichuan peppers was a great experience. 10/10 will recommend.
I used to love this place but not anymore. Somehow they change my fav dish “pan fried beef pie” 牛肉餡餅 into a weird shape and cut it like nobody know they want to save the money serve to customer cheat food. Taste not the same. And the whole pie is thiner than a paper. Feel like I’m eating a fried cardboard. I don’t understand why they change it like this. We pay what we get. But why you all of a sudden change it to a cheaper version of the food and that’s not what 牛肉餡餅looks like. I’m beyond disappointed at this moment and asking myself. Why? Why? why? Is it so hard to keep it like original? And I asked the waiter, this is not the pan fired beef pie. He’s super confidant and tell me yes! That’s the pan fried beef pie. We just change it to a different shape not round anymore. And look at me like I’m a stupid person who doesn’t know what’s pan fried beef pie. Ok, I know I’m not coming back. And That guy gave me attitude makes me feel I’m wrong. Of course we kinda argued about the “pie” and he did say that he can return that order. But hello???!!!! I don’t care bout money problem right now. I care bout the beef pan fired pie, the taste the shape the thick pie!!!! So sad why is a good restaurant has to change it and later on close the restaurant. I know I’m not coming back. All because of that. Oh, and we also have pan fried dumping 鍋貼. Guess what? They change it too!!! They don’t serve with soy sauce paste 醬油膏 anymore. They give you kimchi which I don’t understand. And the kimchi taste so bad. I ask them and they just denying “we never serve the soy sauce paste醬油膏 before. WOW Fool me once is ok. Fool me twice….. Sorry byeeeee~ Enough for arguing. I’m just paid and bounce not even finish the food.
China House
Certain Foods are 10 like the Pork fried rice and sesame seed chicken. The fried dumplings I purchased were 4. Freeze dried for too long. Fried chicken wings and fried rice or french fries 8.
We have ordered there 3 times and only ordered the third time because the first time was good but the last two times have been not good to put it nicely. Rubbery, flavorless. Under cooked and not worth the price at all. Just a heads up.
MalaTown Express 自选麻辣烫
I had a great experience at this restaurant. The indoor environment was clean and well-maintained, creating a comfortable place to enjoy a meal. Service was impressively fast, and there was a decent variety of food options to choose from. What really stood out was the pricing—this spot offers the lowest price per pound I’ve seen in the San Mateo area, making it a great value for anyone looking for a budget-friendly meal without compromising on quality.
Great selection of ingredients. Best price for Mala tang in town. Tasty food! The sauce bar is very basic. They charge extra for green onions, cilantro, and garlic, but it only 50 cents each and me order of each can easily be shared with the table. Right now your order comes with a free malatown tote bag. Wasn't the biggest fan of everyone being served in to go containers, but I always have leftovers so it makes things easier. If you want Mala tang to go, this is the place for you.
Panda Inn
We were truly amazed by how good the service was! The waiter and waitress were very friendly, and very attentive to us. They kept making sure that we had everything we needed. The food was excellent! We ordered lemon chicken and honey walnut shrimp. We were surprised they also offer sashimi! We love this restaurant and we are absolutely going to return soon!
Found out this is the brainchild restaurant for Panda Express. it did not disappoint. The food was fresh & plentiful and although busy the service was quick for lunch time. Ordered wonton soup which came with huge shrimp and veggies. Not your typical wonton soul
Taste of Shaxian
Came here with a group and we had no wait on Tuesday at 2 pm. Good: - This place has so much variety - I loved the pumpkin dessert, and the fried tomato and egg with rise, the duck soup was hearty too - Peanut noodles were a standout dish - Portion sizes were good and this place was great value for the price - Bright natural lighting and homey ambiance Bad: - Wish I could have tried more of the dishes before we got full! Overall this place was amazing! I'd come again
Love this place! I’ve been coming here regularly and it never disappoints. The flavors are spot on—just like what you’d get in a small shop in China. The pork dumplings and noodle soup are my go-to, and the chili oil is amazing. Super affordable, fast service, and always consistent. It’s one of those rare spots where you feel like you’re getting real homemade food. Highly recommend if you're in San Mateo and want something satisfying and authentic.
Hing Lung Cafe
I was traveling and was looking for a Chinese late night snack. That congee was mighty but a bit on the sweet side. The noodle dish is average or above average. That big fried dough not fresh so it’s all crunchy and hard. I’m sure this place can cook up some nice dishes since I was traveling and won’t be back until my next trip to South San Francisco.
Generous portion, tasty bbq pork and i like it that they are lean meat. The vegetable went well with the meat and rice. The dessert red bean soup is surprisingly good and not too sweet.
Chinatown Inn
Highly recommended! I was looking for a sit down Chinese restaurant similar to ones I had been to growing up, and tried Chinatown Inn for the first time. Atmosphere is comfortable and nicely decorated. We were sat quickly and greeted with waters and hot tea shortly after. Service was friendly, fast, and attentive. Even with the dining room filling up- the service was great. Food arrived at a nice pace allowing time between appetizers, entrees etc, waters were frequently refilled, old plates cleared promptly. I saw other reviews about the egg-rolls and decided to try them- very good and a must have, larger size and much fresher than what you’ve probably had at any other restaurant- available in various styles - including vegetarian. I would also recommend the pork fried rice / pork and mushrooms. Nice amount of great quality roast pork in both dishes. Our server helped us pack out leftovers and cashed out our payments promptly. I’d highly recommend giving this location a try!
Chinatown Inn last standing Chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh Chinatown. When you walk in it has an Asian feel I remember when I was young with the leather booths, the color red throughout the restaurant and fish tanks. Staff was very nice and outfit in old Asian attire. We first try the Chinatown Pu Pu Platter and dumpling to try out the different appetizers. Our entree were Beef with Broccoli, the Happy Gathering, the House Special Duck and the Salt and Pepper fish. The food was decent but I found it was made more for non Chinese than actual Chinese. Totally understandable since we were the only Chinese outside of the staff in the restaurant and they probably don’t get that many actual Chinese in the restaurant. But it was still a good experience.
Dumpling and Cajun Seafood
Service was excellent. But I got Cajun seafood combo (C2 on menu), but the crab was no clean, and even has some kind of parasites. The food is totally deep in the sauce, everything should be clean. I also got Cajun fries, and we just had a little bit of ketchup. Why they don’t let the ketchup on the table? We didn't even have enough for half the potatoes.
This Cajun and Chinese food mixed is unique and special. The food is excellent and well prepared. The dumplings are the best and very well prepared, better than other places and you have the soup inside each dumpling, which is well done. And the green string Beans was at the right tenderness. The problem is the parking… and the location is not the best
Peace China
Wow! Peace China is a true hidden gem! The portions here are absolutely incredible - when they say generous servings, they mean it. My sweet and sour chicken could have easily fed two people, and I paid less than I would at other Chinese restaurants in the area. The value for money is outstanding. Not only do you get these massive portions at reasonable prices, but the food quality doesn't suffer at all. Everything was fresh, piping hot, and bursting with flavor. The fried rice alone could be a meal itself! I especially loved how they didn't skimp on the meat in the dishes - you get plenty of protein, not just filler. The leftovers made for an amazing lunch the next day. If you're looking for delicious Chinese food that won't break the bank and will keep you fed for days, Peace China is the place to go. A real bargain that doesn't compromise on taste or quality!
It was good, but I probably wouldn't go back. The general tso wasn't crunchy and kinda tough. The fried rice has good flavor but was pretty greasy. It was also a touch expensive for the price. The egg rolls were very good and crispy.
Yen Ching Restaurant
I have come to this place for years and the owner is amazing at making drinks and serving great food i highly recommend. It is slightly slow service but worth the wait. Drinks are strong. Food once you finally order sometimes takes a while. But iv e only had one time where one person's food came out slightly cold when in group setting but it wasn't that cold my friend/coworker at a luncheon was just picky and from vallejo california. So makes sense he would complain most reviews complaining are from Cali so go back where you came from I'm born and raised and this is best generals chicken. You'll ever have eat on boise !!!!
The food here was good - I got the sweet and sour and was not disappointed. Same as the crab rangoons… they were so good. Potstickers were just as good! The service was good, but they did appear to be understaffed which is unfortunate for them. Portions are huge! Overall, good place, but there is another place i’d say is better
