spicy city
A friend of mine and I always go here. It is our go-to spot for hot and sour soup as well as dumplings. The portions are very generous, and an entree can feed two people easily. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly! You definitely should give Spicy City a try! Only issue is the parking can be a challenge at busier times, but that isn't the fault of the restaurant.
Authentic shichuan with good portion size at reasonable prices. The decor is simple. The dishes come out quick and delicous. Price is very reasonable. We go often and like many dishes there. Must get is the cold plate where you can pick 3 items from the spread. La zhi ji and sour fish are also very good. Service is fast and efficient. Parking available in the mall.
Spicy House
If you want good Chinese shi cuan food at reasonable price with large portions, this is the place to be. Everything we ordered came out quickly, piping hot and delicious. The cold plate portion was generous and delicious. Had the smoked chicken, pork stomach and spicy beef as the cold plate. Ordered fish with preserved veg and stir fry beef. The beef was tender and perfectly cooked, slightly spicy and went well with rice. Service is brisk. Very large menu. Located in mall with free parking but parking was a bit tough during peak lunch time. It's definitely worth a visit if in the area.
I noticed Spicy House serves Da Pan Ji (Big Plate Chicken) for just over $20, so I decided to try it along with Dongpo Pork, salted egg yolk tofu, and scallion pancakes—dishes my dad loves. Everything was delicious and great value! The tofu was super flavorful and perfect with rice, the pork was tender and not greasy, and the Da Pan Ji was a huge portion with wide noodles, making it an incredible deal. Only the scallion pancake was average. My dad loved the meal, and with four of us eating, we still had leftovers!
Fish With You |Spicy & Sour Fish Soup 鱼你在一起酸菜鱼
had an amazing experience at “Fish with you”! The food was delicious — the fish was fresh, tender, and perfectly cooked. The broth was rich and flavorful without being too heavy, and the sourness from the pickled vegetables was just right. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the restaurant had a cozy, clean atmosphere. Portion sizes were generous and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving authentic and comforting Chinese cuisine. I’ll definitely be coming back again!
Tried the newly opened Fish with You with my family. The menu is simple, featuring fish, beef, and spicy mix bowls. We had the Green Pepper Sauerkraut Fish (black fish), Spicy Boiled Beef, and Molten Coconut Ball. The fish was tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with spice and tang—highly recommend! The beef was rich and spicy, great for sharing. Free unlimited rice is a nice touch. Prices are reasonable, about $20 per person. The place feels like a modern Chinese casual eatery—fast, affordable, and no-fuss. The owner even gifted my son an adorable mascot plush—so sweet! Will be back to try more flavors!
Imperial Mandarin
Got ripped off. I ordered the "half size" Peking Duck (instead of the full duck) to go for dinner. Paid almost $22 for half size. I got home and saw, it was NOT half size! It was literally 7 tiny pieces of dark meat cut from thigh AND some pieces of skin, totaling the size of my hand! No white meat from the breast. No leg meat. Half means, you get the white meat + dark meat with or without bones. Called restaurant back and kitchen staff member tried to argue he gave me half size, but see my photo and video for yourself. Then compare my "Half size Peking Duck" with other google review photos- BIG DIFFERENCE! Were they thinking I wouldn't know any better because its carry out? If they only serve the thigh, then list the item as "Peking Duck Thigh". NOT HALF SIZE. This was total misled. A lie. The 1 star is for the nice lady who took the order. Be an honest establishment. You work hard to build your restaurant, but your customers also worked hard to earn their money to spend at your restaurant. Don't take people as fools. Be better.
Both beef hor fun and Steamed red snapper turned out to be a disappointment. There is no wok qi in the beef hor fun dish. Steamed fish is not fresh and slightly fishy. Large oyster dish is good. We are given complimentary egg tarts that look sad and likely are left over from lunch time. Unfortunately I will not recommend this place for dinner. Is costs us almost $100 for just these 3 dishes.
Chef Chin
This was one of our favorite Chinese restaurants before the pandemic; good thing this place is still open and has survived COVID! The flavors and quality are still consistent, each dish from different regions have a distinct local taste, and the chef does a pretty good job at getting the basics right. The food is not overly salty or sweet, and always leaves the right after taste. We used to also come here for breakfast on weekends, they also have good dim sum options if you don’t want to go to a more crowded restaurant like Jasmin. The meats here are never dry and always juicy!
Chef Chin is our favorite Chinese restaurant in San Diego. Food is always great! Ingredients are fresh and each dish is well seasoned (never too salty or too sweet) and properly cooked. They have a good collection of vegetarian dishes. Service is great, too! The staffs are friendly, and the restaurant has a clean and cozy ambiance.
Jasmine Seafood Restaurant & Express
I have gone to Jasmine for several years. I think for Dim Sum in Dan Diego their food is very good. It really has the Hong Kong taste. The only thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere (it really needs to be remodeled as it feels old and worn-out). The furniture and interior of the restaurant just needs to be redone. If you just want good Dim Sum, this place has good Dim Sum. If you want a nice dining experience there are nicer places to go for ambience.
Amazing dim sum experience at Jasmine Seafood! Ate a lot more than was able to take pictures of, loved the buns, xiao long bao, shrimp and pork dumplings, cucumber salad, and more. Friendly service that is always going around with carts of food and water and tea refills. Beautiful dining room, great for groups of any size. Recommend!
Dumpling Inn & Shanghai Saloon
Best soup dumplings I have ever had. High pace yet cozy environment, louder atmosphere, all the staff were accommodating. It gets busy during dinner time but it’s worth the wait. Can’t go wrong with any food or drink you choose.
Great atmosphere and service and wonderful food. We ordered hot and sour soup, dumplings and Kung Pao sea bass. It was all delicious. We will definitely be back.
ZHENGXIN Chicken Steak
I was surprised to find a potato noodle (土豆粉) spot in San Diego after more than a decade! Brought my husband, child, and mom to try it—such a nostalgic experience. The potato noodles were generous in portion; I got one spicy with crispy pork and one original with beef. The spicy one was too intense for me, but if you love heat, you’ll enjoy it! The original tasted just like I remembered, especially with extra vinegar. My husband preferred the braised beef noodle soup—the broth was rich, and the beef was tender. We also got crispy chicken and skewers, which paired perfectly. The shop is inside Zhengxin Chicken—definitely worth a visit for a comforting and nostalgic meal!
Potato noodles are an absolute delight! The texture is incredibly chewy and smooth, making every bite satisfying. The broth is rich, flavorful, and packed with aromatic spices, creating a deep and comforting taste. The combination of fresh vegetables, tender meat, and secret sauces enhances the overall experience. Plus, being naturally gluten-free makes it a great option for those with dietary restrictions. If you’re looking for a unique and authentic Chinese dish, potato noodles are definitely worth trying!
Shan Xi Magic Kitchen
We decided to have Chinese food tonight but not your typical Chinese food. We decided to dine at Shan Xi Magic Kitchen, which is known for their delicious hand pulled noodles The dishes were ordered were delicious, and yes, they were all quite spicy. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Ordering was easy since you ordered from your phone. Overall, this was a fantastic experience. 1. Spicy Hand ripped noodle soup 2. Spicy hot oil hand ripped noodle with tomato and egg. 3. Spicy Chili Dumplings 4. Eggplant with Garlic Sauce 5. Crispy Spicy Chicken
The magic is how happy my tummy feels after visiting this place Consistency is not of their strong suit so but it’ll range from a tasty to a I’ve met god So worst case you get tasty food Come one come all, or don’t, like that I can keep coming with no wait
Steamy Piggy
Love coming here such yummy food! Customer service was top tier cam was a great host! The bulgogi bao and chili wontons are standout items, offering a delicious fusion of flavors. The restaurant’s playful decor and plant-filled patio add to the experience, though it can get busy, leading to longer waits. Parking in the area can be tricky, but the quality of the food makes it worth the trip. A great choice for those craving creative and tasty Asian-inspired dishes!
The kings of Convoy St. This place will blow you away. I tried a fried chicken bao and the bulgoggi wrap to start. Both really really good. Fresh and strong flavor without being overpowering. The piggy taco was one of the best I’ve ever had. Insanely juicy and tender. Amazing. A must stop for any San Diego foodie
China Max Dumpling House
I’ve never been to China Max before it burned down but it seems like ppl are excited for it to re-open. I went during lunch before I was told there’s an AYCE option. Unfortunately it was only during dinner and it ended on 3/27. Anyway, six of us ordered multiple dishes to share. Chicken dumplings in hot chili oil were great. I liked the texture as well as the taste (although a bit more spicy would be better). Sweet and Sour pork ribs were tender and flavorful. Noodles with Pork Chop were good. The noodles were chewy in a good way and pork chop was crispy and not over fried. The soup dumplings and pan fried pork buns were ok. The cucumber salad was disappointing as they were not marinated long enough. The spicy sauce on top was plain. There were many items not available during our visit. I think it’s a good place to try it out but not my go to place. The taste and the portion are not worth the price.
Not sure what the hype is. Crab XLB were dry with no broth in them and they tasted like canned crab. The pork siu mai looked old and had a weird texture. Chicken dumplings in spicy oil were ok but nothing special. Servers were nice and answered questions which is a plus. So glad they had Tsingtao to wash my disappointment away!
Tasty Noodle House
Our Chinese friend took us here, and below is our group’s review. Dishes marked with asterisks are our all-time favorites: 1. *Ginger Scallion Beef: 7.7/10 Slender, juicy beef with great flavor. 2. Sausage Fried Rice: 6/10 If you like pork and sausage, this one's for you! 3. *Beef Chow Mein: 7/10 Great flavor, but the noodle texture could be better. 4. *Garlic String Beans: 8.5/10 Perfectly seasoned, though we'd prefer the string beans to be crispier. 5. Xiao Long Bao: 7/10 Big and thick, but not as fresh or juicy as we expected. 6. Garlic Broccoli: 7/10 Good overall, but we were hoping for Chinese broccoli. 7. Pork Buns: 9/10 Crispy bottom, perfectly cooked dough, seasoned with green scallions, and stuffed with pork—what’s not to love? 8. *Hunan-Style Lamb: 9.5/10 A must-try for spice lovers—heavenly! Pairs perfectly with the sausage fried rice. 9. Honey Walnut Shrimp: 7.5/10 Candied walnuts cooked to perfection, with jumbo shrimp that are tasty, though the sauce was a bit too sweet.
Delicious Seafood pepper noodles and pumpkin pancake! We actually were going to the next door restaurant but saw quite a few people waiting outside this restaurant so we decided to try it. Most of the patrons were Asians. We just ordered what the next table had ordered which looked really good. That was a smart thing to do :-)
