HK Macau Bistro
busy Hong Kong style cafe. Best dish is Macau style curry beef brisket. We got the curry fish ball as appetizers, taste alright could be better. Everything else is pretty good except the Hainan chicken, I never have cold hainan chicken before, it’s weird to me.
We visited for lunch with 5 people and got seated quickly. The ordering took a bit of time, a lot of good options so that's on us. The food came very quickly, everything was delicious. Well seasoned and plenty if "wok" power. The service could put off some people, but it felt like a very authentic HK "no time for your BS" attitude; it was great lol. I would definitely come back, so many good dishes I haven't tried yet.
Chong Qing Special Noodles
Chong Qing Special Noodles is the first Sichuan restaurant I’ve been to and I feel as if I’ve already set the bar too high for any future Sichuan restaurants because the food here was nothing short of incredible. The Chongqing Noodles were unlike anything I’ve ever tasted before — the tingling, numbing sensation the mala leaves in your mouth is near-revelatory. And while the noodles were excellent as you’d expect, the steamed soup dumplings were equally as impressive (and better than anything I’ve ever had at Din Tai Fung). No matter where you are in LA, the trip out here is worth it.
The food here is fantastic if you like spicy and numbing. The handmade Chong Qing special noodles are my favorite. The gele mountain fried chicken is one of the best I've had, the Dan Dan noodles are delicious, we've had several versions of their dumplings and love the spicy and sour ones. The staff here are very friendly.
Wah Sing Dim Sum
This was my first time at Wah Sing Dim Sum. I wanted a quick bite and saw this place had good reviews. And those reviews were right! I'm not a pork eater, so I was a little limited, but the Har Gow, a classic, was spot on! Well seasoned, fresh, good size/portion. The shrimp and chive dumplings, also delicious! I also got the chicken buns and shrimp rice noodle which were delicious. The only thing was the shrimp egg rolls, I think I may have gotten the wrong thing, because they looked to be filled with ground meat (not sure if it was pork) and not shrimp. But I was told they were good too! They do have a few tables and chairs inside to eat there. But it looked like everyone was getting takeout. You just walk in, fill out a sheet with your order, pay and wait for a very short time for your food. Very quick and easy, no nonsense kinda place. Which I very much appreciated! I will definitely be back to Wah Sing Dim Sum when I'm in the area. It was great!
Service was good and most importantly, almost all dim sum was great! It's one of my favorite places in San Gaberial Valley!
Tasty Choice
A time capsule from the 2010s Chinese cafe. Smoking and non-smoking, open late, open generous parking, old school coffee/tea prep in the dining area. Pros and cons associated with all that. Smokes spill inside from the patio, thick tea you could taste from just the air. Service during my late visit was good. The food was split. The acid test of a dry fried beef rice noodle was pretty good while the other prep made Hainan chicken was not so much. It was late so I didn't get any drinks and that was a good decision since soon I was swimming in smoke from the outside. If you could do order tea or something because the tap water should have its brand named because there was a distinct taste to it and it wasn't something I would purposely order. Parking lot is big and shared what appeared to be a member only pool hall. In the worst case park on San Gabriel. All the waiters are bilingual speak Chinese. This shop has steaks, fried rice, noodle soup, all the usual hallmarks of a Chinese cafe from the golden cafe era. The posters, signs, some areas could use a refresher. Prices $15 and up. Didn't see any lunch specials but I visited when most other shops were about to close. If you don't like smoke, pick a seat away from the front.
Average prices for the area. Good food. Good seating quantity. Good seating quality. Lots of tables available, inside can be packed. Covered outdoor seating available. Decent service; it felt like wait staff in the old days where waiters actually waited around to service you, or like how some restaurants in China have people wait around to service you. Outside can experience less service than inside but not bad at all. Overall: Okay place to get food. I would recommend trying them after my 1st visit.
Oriental Express Cafe
Quick note - Didn't eat here (thank goodness). Review covers the service and atmosphere, but I guess you can say the place left a bad taste in my mouth. I asked a simple question about a business next door to the female staff closing up the restaurant. She had a terrible attitude all without any provocation - practically shouted me out the door. Who would want to try any food from such a vile personality?
Authentic and CHEAP! It's pretty close to authentic Chinese as it gets no general tsos here. And did I mention cheap?! Holy moly 4 items plus rice plus tea plus soup for like 7 something what?! The portions are huge too!!! Check em out. Bring a Chinese friend lol
The Bund 8 外滩8号
Came during lunch, the food is really good, authentic Shanghai dishes. Steam chicken scallion is very flavorful. Tofu skin in tofu skin mung beans is very soft. Fried shrimp is also good. Crab meet noodle you can taste the sea. 佛跳墙 is very nice, ingredients used are what you expected, taste great. Service is excellent, server checked in on us constantly, made sure we got everything, and add water to tea pot without us asking. Plenty of parking in parking lot
We went to this location before, but in a different restaurant name. The Bund 8 is Chinese cuisine specializing Shanghai style dishes. All dishes are very authentic n tasty. We have 8 people, and we ordered 2 appetizers n 6 dishes. Food is plenty. We ordered their specialized steam chicken soup n sweet n sour fish: the top expensive dishes in the menu, but they are worth trying. Go before 6, cuz they will be all busy after that.
Dim Sum Box
Open daily from 8am to 3pm, Dim Sum Box in San Gabriel, California, in the SGV (San Gabriel Valley), has the best value with most of their dishes priced at $5.49. That’s 24 traditional dishes to choose from, both savory and sweet and everything in between🫶🏼 First time trying dimsum or don’t know what to get? Order this lineup and thank me later: 🥟Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gau) 🦐Shrimp Siu Mai 🍗Chicken Feet 🧁Malay Sponge Cake 🐷BBQ Pork Bun 🍘Sticky Rice Chicken Wrap Turnip Cake with Dry Scallops 🍮Baked Egg Custard Tarts 🥐The Embassy Kitchen Special Buns 🦐Shrimp Rice Roll 🍘Sesame Red Bean Balls 🫔Seafood Egg Rolls 🍲Pork Congee
The egg yolk bun is sooooo good! Even better than the ones I’ve had in other popular dim sum places on the area!
澳門茶餐廳 Macao Cafe
Macanese is an exotic result of Portuguese and Chinese food combined and known as quite possibly the first fusion cuisine ever? You can find generous portions of just that at Macao Cafe in San Gabriel in my very own SGV (San Gabriel Valley)🫶🏼 First time trying this fusion cuisine? Order this lineup and thank me later: 🍞Macau Milk Toast 🥘Roti Candi with Curry Chicken 🍜House Signature Fried Noodles 🐷Pork Chop Rice 🥟Shrimp Wonton Soup 🍋Iced Lemon Tea
Whenever I don’t feel like cooking, I’ll bring the whole family here for a meal. The decor reminds me of a Hong Kong street-style diner from 20 years ago, and the flavors are pretty authentic too. Highly recommend the Stir-Fried Beef Rice Noodles, Macau Milk Toast, and Baked Bolognese Spaghetti—these three are our must-orders every time. We’ll add other dishes depending on the day. The stir-fried rice noodles have tender beef and are packed with wok-fried aroma. The toast is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and tastes amazing with condensed milk. The spaghetti is for the kids—every time, it manages to fill up our two little picky eaters.
China Express
The Lady who was helping me had poor customer service. She spoke low and had a mask over her mouth which made it extremely hard to hear her. When I'd ask her to repeat herself she appeared to be irritated, that I couldn't hear her low tone. When my order was ready she didn't call out the order or notify me.. the other employees were professional. All that to say.. SWEET N SOUR SHRIMP is where it's at!! I'd Definitely recommend that.
China Express is a great spot for tasty and inexpensive American style Chinese Food. The menu is big and the amount of dine in seating is small. This takeout focused little place has been serving up generous portions here in Pasadena for over thirty years. My wife recently tried the Hot Szechwan Shrimp and really enjoyed it. They serve it with the chili oil on the side so you control your own spice level. We are looking forward to trying more of the menu when the next craving arises. If you happen to be craving American style Chinese food then I recommend you give this good old place a try soon.
Woon - Pasadena
This place is quick and delicious! I didn’t have to worry about parking since I walked, which made it even better. The appetizers tasted fresh, and I really enjoyed the flavors. The Gua Bao was good, with some tasty pickled veggies tucked inside, and the steak noodles had a great smoky flavor. The decor inside is very pretty with lots of natural light, making it a nice place to sit and eat. CONS: The portions are on the small side and it’s a bit pricey, but the food and atmosphere still made it worth the visit.
Absolutely fabulous!! We got there 10 minutes before 5pm on a Sunday and were the first in line, when they opened there was about 12 people in line and when we left there was about 40-55 people in line. You order at the register and then they bring the food out to you. Interesting can beverage choices. Beef noodles: fabulous and great texture Fried rice: light and fluffy Pork belly over rice: Succulent!! Scallion pancakes: a must for delicious sopping Wings: YUUM! Pork belly bao: soooo tasty Chilled cucumber and tofu salad: perfect compliment to the heat and spice Mama Ways Hot sauce: we haaaad to buy this it was so good. Now we put it on everything l!!
Asian Stars (Chinese Restaurant)
The food was pretty good! Felt more like a light healthy meal to me. Flavor was good as well as portions! I would definitely come back. They have a few tables indoors to eat at, as well at plenty outdoor dining with heating lamps for cooler days. Husband and I were happy coming here :) SAN MARINO- New Moon restaurant
Amazing lunch. Great service. Exceeded our expectations. Sweet and spicy chicken and the steamed fish were so good. We will be back again !
Egg Roll Express
Such a gem in the Altadena pasadena neighborhood. The name of this resturant is express, quality is not express at all. Excellent quality, you could taste the ingredient are very fresh! Very reasonable price and portion! Talking to the people in the resturant I learnt that even though the ownership is new, the owners had 10+ years experience in the industry and decide to open their own. So lucky to have a resturant here that put their heart into it. Yummy! Definitely coming back. Thank you!
I recently dined at Egg Roll Express and had a wonderful experience. The menu offered a great variety of traditional Chinese dishes, and the food was absolutely delicious. We started with the crispy egg rolls, which were perfectly deep fried and full of flavor. For the main course, I highly recommend the kung pao chicken it was flavorful and perfectly balanced with a kick of spice. The service was excellent, with the staff being attentive and friendly, ensuring we had everything we needed.the restaurant had a warm and inviting atmosphere, that made it a pleasant place to relax and enjoy our meal. Overall, a fantastic dining experience, and I will definitely be back!
