The food was great. Came here for a weekday for lunch. They are not busy at all. They mainly sell claypot rice with 2 choices of meats. There is also an option to choose daily soup or drinks with cheaper prices that came with meals. I think soup around $5 plus and drink $3 plus. After finish, we get to try their Portuguese tarts, which are quite good. Overall, this restaurant is 1 woman show. She did the cashier, cooking and serving to you. I'm not sure about washing dishes. The only things that need improvements are their bowls, have some stains and no paper napkin on tables. Other than that, their dishes are quite good.
They only serve claypot rice and a few other rice dishes. But we got the claypot rice with preserved meat and spare ribs. The rice was crispy and the sweet soy sauce was perfect. It’s pretty close to a famous spot we had in Hong Kong. The char siu (bbq pork) rice we got was just ok. The char siu they used was lean and no sauce drippings on the meat or rice bowl at all. The Portuguese egg tart was really good. Probably as good as you’ll get in America. Ambiance: it’s nice and reminds me of old school Shanghai decoration. The music playing in the background was old 90’s Hong Kong pop. Parking: It can be scarce during peak hours.

The stinky tofu is amazing, me and my friend ordered two more for Togo, the crispy rice cake is also good, it’s a little bit spicy but taste really good! Absolutely 5 stars
Most snacks are pre-made, so it is recommended to eat there, to go is not cost-effective. Chou tofu is not bad

In Short, Simple but an explosion of flavors. With a few more details, We didn’t know what to expect. Sometimes we go to places that take us out of the comfort zone and love to try new things. It was my first Chinese pancake, I’m sure it has a better name, (Joan Bing) and I was in love. The egg, the meat that just melts in your mouth is just scrumptious. Definitely braised slow cooked meat in the wrap. I could eat 6 of those but we had other places to try. I HIGHLY recommend you go here and get some in your belly. Dumplings were good but not the highlight.
This store is next to the main road of Alhambra in the Chinese district. There is a large parking lot next to Pacific Place. It is very convenient to get here. The traffic is also very convenient. There are many Chinese and non-Chinese customers here. The pancakes in this shop are very delicious. Many people come here to eat them. The characteristic taste of northern China is very authentic. The boss’s service attitude is also very good. I like it very much.
Savoy Kitchen
This place is small. You can eat indoors or outdoors. I tried their hainan chicken with rice and salad. The white chicken was okay. The sauces didn't do anything for me; I was expecting better. The shrimp rolls were alright but very small. The servers were nice. They brought out the food fast. You can park on the street or park in their designated parking lot, which is across the street from the restaurant. You should see their restaurant name in red on the white building. My friend parked on the other side of the main street. Crossing at that crosswalk can be dangerous because the drivers don't pay attention.
Very nice discovery. I had the seafood linguini in Alfredo sauce, and it was really good. I asked for parmesan cheese, and they brought spicy stuff, but other than that, all good. I'll go back for the escargot dish.
Phoenix Inn Chinese Cuisine - Alhambra
Our family and friends have been coming here for years. It’s been consistently good, reasonably priced and has plenty of parking in the back. It’s great for large groups to celebrate birthdays and Lunar New Year. Our server was like a beloved uncle and the service was excellent. The portions are large and there is always leftovers to take home. Our favorites include the walnut shrimp, stuffed tofu, diced green beans with Chinese sausage and mushrooms, beef chow fun and chicken lettuce wraps. They also have a bakery next door if you want to pick up dessert. Although it wasn’t crowded, they were doing some brisk take out business.
The must get things to try here would be black sesame and mixed fruit drink desserts. I haven't had too much of the other stuff, though I did eat the duck noodle soup before and it was pretty decent. Altogether, a good Canto dessert place! I'd come back!
Henry's Cuisine
Henry’s Cuisine is truly a hidden gem! The food was absolutely delicious, made with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors. The service was excellent — the staff was warm, attentive, and made sure we had a great dining experience. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, perfect for enjoying a nice meal. Highly recommend to anyone looking for amazing food and a comfortable environment. I’ll definitely be coming back!
My friend recommended this place several years ago. I'm glad it survived the pandemic and that I was finally able to try the food and service. While waiting in the seating area, one of the guests, a frequent diner, recommended the fried shrimp. It was a very good recommendation. The 2 of us oredered 5 dishes so we could a little of each and take home the rest. The first dish was the fried shrimp. It had a unique Cajun flavor. It was more like a prawns. Very hot and tasty with a little spice and bite. Itd be perfect with a beer. But the shells were tough and not completely edible. It was excellent, but Bistro Na still has the best fried shrimp in the land. Better than famous Thai Garlic Shrimp dishes of Portland or Vegas (see my other reviews.) Our 2nd dish was the fried and salty pork chop. Hmm, it's exactly the same Cajun spice as the fried shrimp. We should've ordered the honey garlic pork chop instead. Our mistake. Next came the clams. I really enjoyed the nice black bean sauce. Not too much black beans iverpowering the sweet clams. Perfect with steamed rice. My other favorite clam dish is from Boston Lobster. Their basil clams dish is also excellent. It's a tie. Beef chowfun was the next dish. Also excellent. They use the same noodles used for most pad Thai noodle dishes. The noodles were infused with a nice smokey, charred, grilled wok flavor. The beef was nice and tender. Our other favorite for beef chow fun, with the same smokey flavor is Arcadia Garden Cafe'. My wife judges Chinese restaurants and their chef's by how good their beef chowfuns are prepared and taste. This easily passed. Lastly was the beef with Chinese greens. Wow, this simple dish came out super tasty. It exceeded my expectations. Again, it's the rich tasty sauce that pairs well with good ol' streamed rice. The beef was tender and the greens were fresh and tasty. Next time,.with more family/friends, we'll try the House Special Vietnamese Lobster. The MP was $29per pound and all they had were 3 lbs lobsters. That was too much for the 2 of us. We'll update our review next time we come back. It'll be dungeness crab season in a couple weeks. We'll review the other seafood dishes too next time.
101 Noodle Express
We ate here 12-24-24 for lunch and got so sick for over 72 hours after eating lamb noodle soup, pickled mustard greens (side dish), and beef rolls. Coughing and throwing up everything daily, diarrhea, body chills, fever, can’t eat or drink. All tasted good but we are never coming back. The lamb soup smelled funny but we didn't think anything. This is the only food we ate and we never got sick from food for decades. Be careful of stale lamb or beef meat, or cooks and wait staff handling food who are not hygienic after bathroom use. Hard to know how we got so sick. The bathroom is dirty. Several reviews mention this. It's difficult to know if it's the staff and not washing hands or stale food or contaminated food. Cash or Venmo only.
Beef rolls are good. Xlb is Mid. But what takes the cake away is that they use MSG in their beef noodle soup. I might as well eat salt water with my noodles. I had to separate the noodles from the soup to make it edible. This place used to be filled with people and delicious food, but now it’s a shadow of its former self and I wouldn’t recommend it.
U2 Cafe & BBQ 港式西餐/庸記燒臘
A yummy lunch with friends and fantastic service! Our lemon ice teas never got empty! Our server was so sweet too! I mentioned that the soup of the day was my favorite so she told me it's always on Sundays and brought me a second bowl! The shrimp and egg chow fun was the star dish today! We enjoyed the salt and pepper pork chops as well as the fish and veggies, needed something healthy lol. Tried the spaghetti bolognese cuz I read some good reviews. It was good but didn't go with everything else lol. Had to end the meal with some egg waffles! Yum! They just started having dinner specials and have weekday specials, not valid on holidays and a great selection of happy hour items too. One of my fav Chinese cafes.
Fantastic food. Great service. San Gabriel Valley's hidden gem. They have the BBQ side and the Cafe side. The Cafe side has Hong Kong Cafe style food. Usually a dish eaten by one person. The BBQ side has more traditional dishes that are meant to be shared by a family, or eaten family style. Everything is shared and passed equally.
LuDingJi Noodles
This store has very good service and the food is delicious! Looking forward to coming again next time!
You think about getting ramen, but you want something healthier? Try rice noodles. LuDingJi will open your world to rice noodle soup. Parking is usually plenty, just go to their underground lot. The restaurant is relatively clean. Food is served pretty instantly, so that's great news for hangry (hungry and angry 🤣) customers. Servers are polite and friendly too. The only complaint I have is the lighting in this restaurant is kind of dark. To order, it's 3-step to get your bowl of rice noodle goodness: 1. Choose your soup base 2. Choose your entree 3. Choose your carbs, but really just get rice noodles! 👌 4. -- Side note: please get some add-ons as the dish doesn't come with many things. -- Food we ordered: - Tomato soup (8/10): For those who can't eat spice, this is Really REALLY GOOD! It's not too salty, the rice noodle textures were mildly chewy and tasty. I added fatty beef and some vegetables. Overall, the portion given is plenty. - Chili Pumpkin (10/10): A little spice, but this is probably my favorite hands down! The spice has a mild sweet-sour flavor to it. I really enjoyed this. - Shou Zhua Bing (6.5/10): This is basically roti canai with meat. I actually liked the dish. I gave it a low rating because I felt like the meat was cold but I thoroughly enjoyed the roti canai! Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants to try a ramen alternative. ✨🤤
Northern Cafe 兰州拉面
Some of the noodle dishes were OK, but the 蝦餃(Haa Gow) were pretty much purchased from the frozen section of the Shun Fat grocery store in the same complex, and heated up. Otherwise, it's OK. I think I need to give this place another shot to give them some more chances. Last time I ordered my to-go order around lunch time, they had like a 10-minute delay for some reason, and another guy was waiting for his food too.
It’s our first time here. The server was very friendly and recommended beef and tendon noodles. Very nice clear soup with freshly hand cut noodles.
New Elite Restaurant
This restaurant is a must-visit for clay pot rice lovers. The rice arrives sizzling with a golden, crispy bottom and perfectly infused flavors. Their Chinese sausage and marinated pork combo is outstanding. The wait is worth it, as each pot is cooked to order. Pair your meal with their stir-fried veggies and homemade chili sauce for a complete experience. With its cozy atmosphere, generous portions, and attentive service, this spot delivers comfort food at its best.
Left work late tonight and New Elite is just 3 minutes west on Valley Blvd of my office. I was originally going to come try this restaurant yesterday night for Mid-Autumn Festival dinner but found out they are closed on Tuesday. We arrived at 7:30 and took a look at the menu and this is a Cantonese restaurant that serves dishes more specifically to my family’s region the Toisan (臺山) / Hoiping (開平) area of Guangdong. It was quite cool and chilly tonight and after looking at the menu, we decided on a soup and a claypot rice. Under the specialties we decided on the Tai Shan Style Salty Rice Ball (台山鹹湯圓) and the Quail & Preserved Meat Clay Pot Rice (鹌鹑腊味煲仔饭) to share. When the waitress came to take our order she asked us about a vegetable dish and recommended the Sautéed Preservee Chinese Pork Belly w/ Garlic Sprouts (腊味炒蒜苔). We were started off with some complimentary hot tea that was very fragrant and strong. First dish that came out was the Tai Shan Salty Rice Ball and it was a huge bowl for $13.90 and loaded with daikon strips, napa, salted chicken (steamed chicken that’s cured by being patted down in salt) , Chinese sausage, shiitake mushrooms, ginger, dried shrimp, green onions, cilantro and soft pillowy rice balls which are little dumplings made from the perfect mixture of glutinous rice flour and water. The broth was so warm & comforting to the stomach and soul yet flavorful with all the ingredients. The second dish that came was the claypot. We took off all the preserved meats and quail and vegetables to a separate plate poured on their special soy sauce and mixed. The rice was perfectly cooked and as always the crispy rice at the bottom was the best, it turns out the quail was preserved too. Lastly was the recommended garlic sprouts and it was the first time we ever had it and it was sautéed with some long beans and preserved Chinese pork belly (臘肉) and the garlic sprouts and long beans vibrantly green and sautéed with so much “wok hay” we could hear it from the kitchen. The garlic sprouts were crunchy and naturally sweet complimented with the long beans and thinly sliced preserved pork belly, a wonderful vegetable dish. Really appreciative of the recommendation. As we were packing our leftovers to go, we were given complimentary dessert which is 砵仔糕, a steamed dessert made from rice flour, starch and either white or brown sugar and molded into little cups and it gets the best Asian compliment that it’s “not too sweet”. It was my first time trying it but nostalgic for my mom who had it growing up in Hong Kong. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their soups, specialities, signature dishes, and even their lunch specials that’s served everyday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Jue Wei Kitchen
I have purchased from this restaurant for two years year. However, my recent experience was terrible and unbelievable. I bought some chicken feet on Saturday afternoon and put them in refrigerator. On Sunday night, I found MOLD!!!
I always stop by this place to get snacks when I'm in town. This is a great stop if you can eat really spicy snacks that pair well with a beer!
