Golden Gate Restaurant
First time here. Several friends have raved about this place. It did not disappoint. Came around 6:30 on a weeknight. Plenty of open tables. The place is well maintained, well lit, and clean. Got seated right away and attended to by our server. Trisha did a great job the entire meal. So very friendly and attentive. After getting a beer and tea, we ordered our food. A eggroll that we split, shrimp egg foo young and Mu Shu Beef. Everything we ordered was fresh, hot, and generous portions. The Shrimp Egg Foo Young patties were plump with a nice crisyp edge, with sauce that was not too thick. The Mu Shu Beef had a nice combination of vegetable, beef, with the pancakes and plum sauce. Definitely a good choice for Chinese Food. The meal was great value, al less than $40. The only issue that we had was the occasional outburst of noise/cheering from the bar area. There was a sports game on the TV and apparently the bar fans were getting excited. We are not fans of TVs in restaurants.
This restaurant has come highly recommended for years and I never had the time to give it a try. Today I did and it disappointed greatly. The flavor of everything was either lacking or just off. Chicken fried rice was almost flavorless and a little undercooked. Egg drop soup tasted like hot water. Egg roll had something in it that I thought was mushy potato until I checked and saw that it was some kind of meat. Crab Rangoon had almost no filling and the shrimp dish had way too many peanuts and generally confusing texture. I wouldn't eat here again.
Le Gong Gourmet
Le Gong Gourmet is hands down one of the best spots for Chinese food! The portions are HUGE – I had the General Tso’s chicken, and it was delicious! So flavorful and the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. I even saved half for tomorrow! The service is always friendly, and the chefs are clearly amazing at what they do. If you're looking for great food, generous portions, and fast service, this place is a must-visit! Highly recommend!
As newcomers to the Waukesha area, my husband and I were excited to try Le Gong Gourmet after seeing recommendations in the “Waukesha Eats” Facebook group. We placed an order through their website and got orange chicken, beef with broccoli, white rice, lo mein, and crab rangoon. The food was delicious and had a homemade feel to it. The portions were very generous—we could only eat about half of what we ordered! For the price, the quality and portion sizes were excellent. We’ll definitely be ordering again. Highly recommend!
New China Buffet
The food was decent. The seating area is bland. Styrofoam bowls, plates, and cups with plastic silverware. Jello had no flavor and was overly firm. There was no allergy warning that there was peanut sauce being served on the third buffet. French fries were good! Sweet and about chicken pieces were fairly good. Grapes were delicious. The ladies' room made me feel extremely uncomfortable with the LAYERS of whatever is around the base of the toilet and the duct tape over the space between the stall wall and the door wall. Overall, it could be way better but could be worse. I don't think we will be back.
Did the buffet and love the variety - from basic staples to some more fun options and lots of desserts. I loved all the fresh fruit, and they even had pizza and chicken for my son. Signs could include a bit more detail about the food options on the buffet, but the staff is available to explain. Wish they were using real plates and silverware, but understand this may be cheaper than hiring additional staff. The place could use some updates to the seating area, but overall, we really enjoyed ourselves and our food.
New China Express Restaurant
First time here. Lady on phone is rude when I was ordering. She seemed bothered that I asked a few questions on the chicken fried rice dish. I continued to order anyways hoping the food was worth the disrespect. Food came in a timely manner. Vegetables were hard as rocks and probably lightly blanched instead of cooked. Hardly any chicken in the chicken stir fry. The fried rice has a terrible oily taste that lingers after eating it. The sweet and sour chicken was pretty good except the oil taste was too pronounced.
I ordered the chicken fried rice and crab Rangoon. While eating my rice I noticed the back of my throat starting to swell up. I didn’t think it was from the rice because I’m not allergic to anything. After about 15 minutes it went away so I continued to eat my rice and it happened again except this time it got even worse and was very hard to swallow. I’m not sure what’s in the chicken fried rice but there’s something funky in it. Crab Rangoon didn’t have enough filling.
Panda Express
The negative reviews are brutal... I hit the drive thru around 1230pm. The gal was super nice on the mic and confirmed my order. The was really friendly at the window and accommodated my request for chopsticks. I got back to my office 5 minutes away and the food was delicious.
Shout out to the great, honest staff at this location. I was there for lunch like 7 hours ago and left my wallet behind on accident. I didn’t realize it until tonight. Anyway, it’s a snowstorm and I tried calling like 5 times - but something was wrong with their phones (I could hear them, but they couldn’t hear me). A young man calls me back from his personal phone and lets me know - and I ask about my wallet. They had it in the safe! Whew! So I headed there in the storm to pick it up. And, everything was still in there as it was. Very thankful!! Also, lunch was good as usual! Always good food, service, and very clean.
Kim's Garden
The flavor was great, but the meat to veggie ratio was definitely off. We ordered the beef and cashew dish and were surprised at how little meat there was in the to-go container.
Ordered takeout, got home and our container of sweet and sour chicken was less than half full. And the chicken we did get was cold and soggy. I called and was offered to be refunded for the $3 difference between the small and large size. It was wildly inconvenient for us to not have enough food to feed our family. Would have been nice to get refunded for the amount of the chicken ($13). Not only that, but the lady on the phone was rude. The rest of the food was subpar, definitely not worth the $50 we spent. Would not recommend. Update- like many others have reported, they blocked my number. These people need a lesson on customer service.
Feng's Kitchen
House lomein is bomb. Best family run chinese in Waukesha. They are always fast, accurate, and friendly. I'd also recommend their beef on a stick, fried dumplings, beef with broccoli, and their sugar donuts.
This one hurts to write. I have loved Feng's for many years. It's always been top notch taste and quality. However, when I received my order, I was very disappointed. My Egg Foo Young was cooked to smithereens as well as my almost burnt Egg Roll (fried to the utmost). Rice was over cooked. Lastly, I'm being generous at 3 stars. I work too hard for my money to come back. I'll learn to make my own. I sure hope they get it together and bring back the top notch quality and not over cook the food.
Panda Express
Super inconsistent on the sides. The white rice is often undercooked and the chow mein comes out mostly as cabbage. See the photo....like guys, this is not chow mein, it's cabbage with a couple noodles
The chow mein and rice was really dry.. I'm hoping it was just a one off experience. I moved away from a Panda Express location and I rarely get to eat there anymore.
