Golden China Restaurant
This was a wonderful choice. The meal was hot and delicious. The chicken was still crispy and very well done. The staff was super friendly and responsive….I’ll for sure be back.
5 stars across the board. My fiance and I stopped in after shopping at the outlet mall, we were looking for somewhere affordable and came across this restaurant. $15.99 for the buffet, a smaller selection of food but they have all the staples and each was high quality. We wanted to highlight the red curry along with the broccoli beef. The fruit they served was also super fresh. We live in Maryland but are definitely going to make the drive back for the price and quality of the food! Also customer service was amazing! We were seated immediately and they picked up our finished dishes promptly. Overall a great spot!
Panda Express
For the price and convenience, it’s hard to beat this place. Food quantity and quality are great value. Service is always quick and polite, the place is clean and the food is fresh. What I appreciate is the consistency in size for the pieces of chicken. This means they all cook at the same rate so you’re not getting a bunch of over done small pieces mixed in with larger pieces. That’s not the case at all of these types of restaurants. (See video) The eggroll was a little burnt, but it tasted fine. Not sure I would get it again because it wasn’t memorable but it wasn’t awful either . Again, for the price this place is great.
I used to come to this location because the service was excellent, and they weren't stingy with the servings! Now I haven't been here in quite a while and had only recently stopped by because I was starving and was on a time crunch. My most recent experience could've been much better, but I think it's just average compared to others. I ordered a plate of chow mein with grilled chicken teriyaki and black pepper chicken. The portion was okay. They used to give out much bigger servings, so I was a bit disappointed. I also ordered cream cheese rangoons. The food flavor was lacking, but I was really hungry, so I finished it all. I got my food as a take-away and didn't notice the state of the dining area, but from first glance, it looks the same as it did the last time I was in a couple of years ago. They had a few people dining in and a few people getting take-aways. They had a steady stream of customers. I don't think I'll be back again. Service was okay, but the food was disappointing.
Taipei Cafe
I'd like to point out that this is not the same Taipei Cafe as the one in Rockville Maryland. I see that the majority of the photos and even some reviews for the other Taipei Cafe ended up on this page, which is extremely misleading. The name of this restaurant is also misleading. There's nothing Taiwanese about this place. They don't serve any Taiwanese style dishes. This place is your typical Americanized Chinese take out, serving things like Kung Pao chicken, moo goo Gai pan, and orange chicken. So don't confuse them with the other Taipei Cafe and know what you're expecting. That being said, the food was just OK. Spicy beef noodle soup: - The broth is very bland. No beefy broth flavor here if you're looking for it. - The noodles is the exact same noodle they use for their Lo Mein. This type of noodle doesn't really do a good job soaking up the broth flavor compared to something like hand pulled noodles, and is meant to be used in stir fry dishes, not noodle soups. - Beef pieces were ok. It had a bit of tendon which is a plus. - The vegetables are just the same ones they use in other dishes - broccoli, cabbage, carrot, and onion. Mushroom and vegetables noodle soup: - Bland tasting. It tastes as if they took the beef noodle soup and substituted the beef with mushrooms instead. - Still has the same Lo Mein noodles. Steamed dumpling - The filling was decent - The skin wrap was too doughy on one side. It seems to steam from the wrapping technique. It seems like they folded the skin instead of making small pinches to seal the dumpling, which leaves you with one side of the dumpling with massively more dough than the side with the filling. This leads to uneven cooking, which explains the thick doughy texture that had a hint of a white center where the center of the fold is. Beef with green pepper and tomato - This one is OK. Lots of onions. Beef is OK. - The sauce is very Americanized, so it's soy based with added sugar and in this case the sugars from the tomato, that's been thickened with a bit of corn starch. If you come here thinking this is the same Taipei Cafe as the one in Rockville Maryland, you're going to be very disappointed. If you enjoy Americanized Chinese food and you come in with low expectations, then you'll like this place.
---- UPDATE ---- OK so most of the good reviews here are all for the REAL Taipei Cafe in Rockville - all mistakenly written here. So the actual rating for this restaurant should be much lower than 2 stars. I can't believe a restaurant survives on using the same name to confuse customers. ----- 8.28.2023 ----- How can they name themselves Taipei Cafe? Nothing here is Taiwanese. Hard to be considered "authentic" at all. Wonton is so thick. Dumplings don't taste like dumplings, they taste like bao getting thrown into soup. I shouldn't even drive here 😭 wasted my time and money. THIS IS NOT A TAIWANESE RESTAURANT. CHANGE YOUR NAME!!
