Dumpling District
It was newly opened here at the Pentagon City Mall, food court level. The food here is pretty good. I had the shanghai shumai and the Rainbow Soup Dumplings. The dumplings are made in-house, which is nice to see. All the food is served to go for now. The prices are a little expensive but you have to realize that this is at the mall and not your typical hole in the wall restaurant.
Hidden gem! Amazing dumplings. The dough, the soup inside each dumpling, shrimp zucchini filling- wow. Definitely coming back. I just wish they served them on plates, not only for to go
Yunnan By Potomac
From the very minute, I walked in. I was greeted with not only a warm smile, but a genuine appreciation. The atmosphere is very modern, but the relaxed way you feel once you sit down, certainly embraces you to a good time. The small plates, appetizers, and the rest of the menu have an amazing variety to it. I would highly encourage trying new things because I was surprised at every return. The wood ear and mint salad was awesome, as was the dumplings, and to finish it off the fried tofu had a really great flavor to it. While my eyes were bigger than my stomach, I would definitely go back to try the many other things they have on their menu I will definitely be back.
Yunnan by Potomac offers a delicious journey into Southwest China with its award-winning Yunnan mixian (rice noodles) and shareable dishes like dumplings and bao buns. The mixian, whether in a rich broth or stir-fried, is packed with flavor, while the dumplings and bao buns are perfectly executed with tender fillings. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it a great spot for both casual meals and special gatherings. If you're looking for bold, authentic flavors, Yunnan by Potomac is a must-visit.
Lucky Danger
Quality of the food was surprisingly good and higher than my expectations! Ordered the family style Meat OK meal for two and there was plenty, plus leftovers for two people. Hope this becomes a permanent location - best Chinese and overall Asian restaurant in Pentagon Row in my opinion. Food is authentic and delicious, and cute branding is a plus. Update: Tried Lucky Danger a few more times since they’ve opened (3-4 times), and the quality seems to get worse each time. Getting burnt food seems to be a frequent occurrence, online ordering/timing seems to be very off, and some things like crab rangoons look like someone’s taken a lazy shortcut. See pics. Disappointing. They have potential but need quality control. One time pointed out our order of scallion pancakes was burnt, and they apologized and offered to remake the food but it was burnt yet again. Stopped giving the place chances.
Ordered veggie lo mein, drenched in sauce, had a burnt taste to it. It also had these weird little bits in it, couldn’t figure out what they were. While I was waiting for my order, I noticed a huge tub of raw chicken sitting out. Good thing I don’t eat chicken. Wouldn’t come here again!
Noonchi
This is a wonderful speakeasy, where you can get delicious dim sum, play mahjong with three of your friends, and socialize over some wonderful craft cocktails that have some Asian inspired flavors. All the staff are wonderful and are willing to help out anyway they can. We were overall fresh players to the game but they were willing to offer quick tips and refreshers to make it the best experience possible. Definitely will be going back soon !
Revising this to say the reservation process is not smooth. Reserved an automatic mahjong table but was then called an hour before my reservation to say that they couldn't do it. Disappointing as we had guests coming in who were looking forward to it. As avid mahjong players we finally got to try this place! The cocktails and mocktails are great, a personal favorite was the Forbidden Rice horchata. Really enjoyed the veggie chow mein, whole branzino as well. The impossible shumai was also pretty tasty. Service was also excellent, and the mahjong tables themselves are awesome!!
Panda Express
Eh, the chow mein was tasty enough, but it was 3/4 cabbage and 1/4 noodle. I'd take my money elsewhere next time. Still hungry.
My friends and I had our dinner in this Panda Express located inside Fashion Center at Pentagon City. We took family set that cost more tha $70 and selected 5-6 items: Prawn, Chiow Mein, fried rice, vegetables with soft drinks. Food was good. The place was crowded and we sat in the common space for food. Serve was good but slow.
