Spicy Girl
Kim was our server she was beautiful and very kind. She made our first experience worth it. She was patient and went over and beyond to make sure we felt good and happy while dining. Food was hot, fresh and delicious. Flavors were paired very well with each dish.
Just ate here for the first time and will definitely be coming back. The atmosphere is great and the aroma that hits you when you walk in had my mouth watering. Everything I ate was stellar but I highly suggest ordering the soup dumplings and sichuan chili beef. And to top it all off our service from Kim was phenomenal, she really went above and beyond and made our meal memorable. Definitely give this place a try if you haven't.
Dough Zone Dumpling House Houston Midtown
Good atmosphere for casual dinner/ date, fast service, consistent food. One of our go to dinner places. The service is always friendly and fast. They have a large menu which is really nice. Their xiaolaobao are good, and the fried dumplings are also good. Noodles are okay, not the best but not bad. Would not recommend the zhajiangmian.
It was our first time at Dough Zone, and we loved everything we ordered. Nice portion and prices are reasonable compared to some of the dumpling houses elsewhere. The dumpling soup was so yummy, the wraps were soft, and the soup tasted just right, not bland or salty. Their cucumber in chilly oil was fresh and super crunchy. We ordered four, thinking it was a small single portion size omg...when the waitress brought 4 dishes out, all of our jaws dropped. Each plate was full. They were so delicious that we finished 3 plates. Lol Everything was delightful. Good find!!! The only downside to this place is parking. There is not enough parking, and some of the lots are fairly small. We struggled to find an available parking lot, and once we found one, the space was very tight for our pickup truck. However, if you live in the Heights, near Dough Zone, it's better to just walk there or take an Uber. Happy dining :)
Siu Lap City
Food quality and taste went down substantially under new owner. Pork belly has mostly fat, skin is chewy. Roasted duck tastes plain, one of the most chewy roasted ducks I ever had. Sad, it’s used to be my favorite spot for quick lunch in midtown area.
I hate it when new owners take a place over and immediately cut corners, while raising the prices. You can see in the pictures that everything is dry, and the roast pork had no skin on it. bad enough i stopped mid meal to write this.
Kim Tai
Disappointed after checking out this place that had a 4.7 rating. Be surprised by the location and the structure of where this place is located. It is a small hole in a wall small family run kind of a place. The eggrolls were the only items that I would say was the highlight of the meal for the price. Everything else was mediocre. The rock ‘n’ roll dishes that we ordered for chicken and beef were warm- cold and as you can see in the pictures, meat was rare not well done. I wouldn’t recommend this place and don’t think I will be returning to it again.
Food was okay. I wish I had got more in the to go container. This was before I took a bite. Service was quick and they were really nice. It’s a small cute homey type of environment.
Wanna Bao
visiting Wanna Bao? Good food and a chill space! My family and I went in a rainy day which proved to be the best time to try out Wanna Bao. It wasn’t too packed, or too loud and parking was easy despite what the other reviews said. For the food: Spicy popcorn chicken: 10/10. Beware it IS spicy. Red oil dumplings: 7/10 the oil was on point! Shanghai Chili Lettuce Wrap: 8/10 This dish was solid! Shredded Chicken in Spicy Garlic Sauce: 6/10 flavor was there, not spicy and a safe choice. Shrimp dumplings: 8/10 I enjoyed the outer crispy underneath consistency. Nutella Dumpling dessert: 8/10 different and tasty. Over all, Wanna Bao did not disappoint!
This restaurant was absolutely one of the best Asian restaurants I have been to. We had a party of 13 and everything that was ordered was delicious from the scallion pancakes to the duck, general tso's chicken, soup dumplings, fried rice, cucumber salad and on and on. The waiter was extremely cordial. Will definitely be going back!!!
Pho Saigon
2nd time here and a great Pho spot we have come across in Houston! Soup flavor is delicious, combo pho was spot on in meats/noodle ratio for $12.95! Wife specifically wanted to come back here after our 1st visit! Hope you get a chance to try this place!
I’ve been here a couple of times and they never disappoint! I love the to-go bowls because they make it easy to prepare on the go. All you literally have to do is add the broth and toppings then eat!
Mai's Restaurant
Wonderful… just wonderful! We had a great server Minh. Ordered the Vietnamese egg rolls, chicken and snow pea leaves, and Bo luc lac. Delicious! Go try Mai’s. It’s even open till 3am.
I heard about this place from a friend and decided to give it a try. I ordered egg rolls and Bun Bo Hue soup. The egg rolls were fantastic, not only crunchy but delicious. The sauce they came with was perfect - it didn’t seem to be very sugary like they normally are. The soup was interesting - I haven’t had a one just like it before. It was nice to try. Would definitely be open to coming back here.
Taste of Mulan
It was fairly busy for a Saturday afternoon, but the staff were attentive and efficient. The restaurant offered ample space for a stroller and had adjustable seating options, making it easy to accommodate a car seat. I ordered the whole Peking duck, which was served with a side of duck soup. The crispy skin was absolutely perfect, and there was no gamey flavor whatsoever. While both the pancakes and fluffy buns were available for the duck, I personally preferred the pancakes. The soup, made with the duck bones, was rich, flavorful, and a perfect complement to the meal.
Overall great experience with a lot of choices. The food was very good and consistent across all of the dishes. There was nothing that went uneaten. We mainly had dim sum and it was all tasty. All of the soup dumplings were great, but not that flavor bomb I have received elsewhere. I would be happy to come back any time to try some other dishes that are not dim sum.
Magic Wok
First off the other reviewers almost had me pass this by. But knowing how petty people are I stopped by anyway. This is a great Chinese Lunch spot. Definitely should be busier at lunch. General Tso and Hot and Sour soup is great. Chicken is not greasy, soggy, or smothered in sauce. Its just right. Egg roll is a good size as well. Will definitely come here to get my Chinese fix from now on.
--- NK Score = 6.5/10 --- 6/10 = Furniture/Ambience 7/10 = Food Quality 6/10 = Prices/Services (Other Ratings Hidden) _____________________________________________ =( BASIC INFO )= - Tiny Restaurant, Mostly Delivery - Usually Empty, Little Waiting Time - Decent Foods ( $8.00 - $14.00 ) - Uses Thin Styrofoam Plates, Meh - Homemade Style Foods, Chinese - Midtown $$ Prices, Good Service - Convenient Parking Spaces _____________________________________________ = Atmosphere = Really tiny little restaurant with almost nothing inside, probably not a good idea to dine in, but they do have good delivery service / takeout. _____________________________________________ = Food Quality = - Mongolian Beef ($9.95): Not bad, has an interesting sweet and sour flavor that's soft to the tongue. Also, the beef used was pretty basic, but the mixture of scallions, carrots, and onions make the dish a whole lot better. Ok price and portion for Midtown. - Curry Chicken ($9.25): A good load of vegetables and chicken, but lacking a little on curry portions. The flavor is alright, kinda has a homemade Chinese dish feel to it. Ok to try, but not that amazing. - Green Bean Chicken ($9.25): Decent chicken and green beans, but the flavor didn't really kick in. Wouldn't recommend this dish, but it's ok to try. _____________________________________________ = Price / Service = Prices are pretty average for a Midtown restaurant, but the styrofoam plates they use are a little disappointing. Possibly a decent place to order delivery as the portions and prices are manageable. Delivery service is pretty good, they're fast and usually on time. _____________________________________________ Recommendations: Mongolian Beef, pretty good dish with a homemade type of feel and flavor. - Signed NK (June 2017) - Images below by Jason Lx (NK)
