Joy Wok
Ordered by phone. Someone in another review mentioned that the women always quotes "10 mins" for every phone order. They were right...she said, "10 mins"! 🤣 The entrance into the restaurant has 2 steps down to the main level. I dont see how someone in a wheelchair could make it down. The dining area isnt much but its offered. The lady working was super friendly. The food was decent. I say this a lot lately......Not the BEST, but far from the worst! Everything was hot and freshly made. The portion size wasnt the greatest, but what I got ended up being enough. Thank you for the quick service and fresh food. Im sure we'll be back again sometime when we're back in the area. 🚛
The service is great it’s always either 10 to 20 minutes. The atmosphere is great there is paintings that are really cool. And the food is top notch Chinese so good and flavory if you’ve never had it try it I bet you will give 5 stars to
Spicity
Finally ate here after meaning to for years, and it was very good. The menu is nearly as long as cheesecake factory, big enough to feature half a page of frog dishes in the seafood section. The downside is not everything is pictured and the descriptions are fairly incomplete so while what we got was delicious, neither entree in our party was exactly what we expected. Our favorite dish was the spicy cucumber appetizer. Not busy with a nice decor vibe, eclectic music, and a good server despite struggling a little to keep up. I recommend going if you like a variety of Asian cuisine and you're willing to be surprised.
This restaurant was just opened when I left Blacksburg five years ago. It’s still among the best Chinese restaurants of the town. The flavor of twice cooked pork immediately brought back some of the old memories. But some dishes were totally a failure. Fried pork in scoop was too hard to chew, like rocks.
Double Dragon
While I was visiting Virginia Tech Campus. Wanted some Chinese and landed here. I’m Originally from New Jersey where Chinese food is like a staple. Growing up around it all my life pretty much and know good and bad places. A staple meal for me is ChickenWings&PorkFriedRice w/ French Fries. Which they didn’t have French fries or cook with bean sprouts which threw me for a loop . Overall the food was definitely solid.
Double Dragon isn't your average sit-down restaurant. They don't have servers, so you just order at the counter and they'll bring the food to you. I'm a second generation Chinese-American and my Chinese isn't quite at the level of native speakers. I still always try to speak Chinese whenever I'm at a Chinese restaurant. However, I felt ridiculed by the lady running the cash register - who went out of her way to mention how poor my Chinese is. I brushed that off and still ordered my food. My friend and I ate-in, and there weren't any other people at the restaurant. The food was average. I found the dumplings to be very ordinary and quite small. I wish that I had better words to say, but I overall didn't have a good time here and won't be back. Dumplings, Chinese "donuts", beef stir fry
Hunan King
Aside from the bare minimum, the only nice things about this place were the pretty fountain at the entrance and the cool fortune cookies they handed out. Everything else, unfortunately, was a letdown. The restaurant is supposed to be a Chinese place, but the food didn’t taste anything like it at all, not even close. But to be fair, the portions and prices were pretty decent. The service was painfully slow and unenthusiastic. The atmosphere felt dull and gloomy, and if you’re into that, good for you; but for me, it just gave off a depressing vibe. The place was pretty much empty too, which kind of says it all. Overall, definitely NOT somewhere I’d recommend.
The place was okay and not crowded. I ordered silken tofu, or Ma Pa Tofu , chicken with dry hot pepper, and sweet and sour cutlets. The food was decent, the cutlets were good but the chicken too crunchy. The tofu was great! Overall this place is pretty good
Panda Express
The food was hot and on point. The staff was super nice and the restaurant was clean.
We went over here late at night just about 20 mins before shutdown. This was my first time coming to Virginia and my first time eating at any Panda Express Joint. I would say the food is great but they need to add more vegetarian options. The staff, at the end of the day were responsive and served us right considering we were the only customers. The ambience was good and quantity of the food was sufficient for a good dinner. Definitely a place to check out for once.
Chinese Kitchen
This review is for Chinese kitchen from 20+ years ago when I was an Engineering student at VT. This place saved my life by offering the most delicious Hot Sour soup and Shrimp lomien with char shu pork fried rice for $4.35 including tax. Best shrimp broccoli ever. Now I live in an Asian community in SoCal but I never found a Chinese takeout as good as this place. Lots of good memories!
I graduated in 2011 and came back to visit. I was worried things had changed, but it's still the same Chinese Kitchen. It's every bit as good as I remembered. Their steamed dumplings are so good that they've ruined all other dumplings for me. I've never found a comparable one and I believe it's because they're made in house. Chinese Kitchen was winning Best in Blacksburg for Chinese food during my undergrad. They deserve so much better than their current rating.
Happy Wok
Happy Wok is nothing short of excellence. The food is delicious, the service is a star above standard, and it is always ready in 10-15 minutes. There is always someone enjoying a meal from happy wok for good reason. This is my staple and is clearly the best Chinese food in Blacksburg. Whether you are looking for a quick bite on a budget, or simply stuck in a craving that can only be solved with Chinese food, Happy Wok will always leave you Happy.
Had this delivered so I can not comment on the service or atmosphere. But let me tell you about the food! Some of the best Chinese I've had in a long time. The egg rolls were soooooo tasty, had a nice crispy outside and do fresh inside. The portions are huge, each dish we had was very satisfying! I wish I wasn't an out of town visitor... because I'd eat here often
Blacksburg No. 1
[SPECIAL FREE ICE CREAM EVENT ONGOING!!] The owner is very nice! The food is SOOO awesome. I personally love their pork belly the most, and their spicy dumpling soup is also fantastic. Recently, they have a special event! From what I remember, if your total cost is above $20, you can get a free waffle ice cream. I came from Hong Kong, and I can tell you the bubble waffle is very similar to what I ate when I was young. If you want to try some authentic Chinese food, this is the place to go! It is not too expensive, and the portions are generous—you will definitely get full.
2019-12-11 Update: Rating increased to four stars. The new cashier was friendly and attentive. Tried their spicy pot. Large portion and reasonable price. Unknown if other dishes remained the same as before. 2019-05-13 Update: Rating reduced to three stars. The noodle soup quality has decreased appreciably: Previous spicy soups full of flavors have been changed to clear broths mixed with spoonful chili sauce. Luncheon meat slices become much thinner than before. Free oranges are gone. Price increased by $2 averagely. 2018-09-20 Updated: rating reduced to four-star: the server at the front desk taking orders was indifferent. No greeting, no words and I could not feel any passion from her about their business. A newly opened Chinese noodle restaurant. Had the original beef noodle soup there. The noodle is quite tasty and full of flavor. Beef size and portion are huge. The portion size definitely exceeds the expectation of the inexpensive price (~$8). Overall, this place deserves five stars and I will surely recommend it to my friends. The regular beef rice noodle was okay. Very mild, not spicy. Roasted beef fried noodles are tasty as well but a little too salty. Stay hydrated.
