Eastern Chinese Style
This Chinese food reminds me of the real authentic Chinese food from the 90’s wooww this food is amazing took me back to my childhood days… keep up the great work Eastern Chinese I’ll be back very soon and very often
Lived in this neighborhood for a while and never realized there was a Chinese restaurant here! Food didn’t disappoint. Definitely going to be my new go-to spot. The surrounding Chinese restaurants food quality has gone down in resent years and food here reminds me of the ol days. Went for a basic chicken wings/fried rice and the wings were sooo good!
Ming Yen
We absolutely love going to Ming Yen! Since moving here 4 years ago, it has become our celebration restaurant, and the only Chinese food we’ll eat in town. Our latest visit, a couple of days ago, was especially excellent. We learned about some wonderful changes and we’re very happy for the restaurant, and for our future dining tbh. It was all over the top delicious! The beef was so tender and flavorful, and the green bean dish was unexpectedly amazing. All exceeded our already high expectations! Which adds to the fantastic customer service. We always feel so welcome and at home when we dine here. Congrats and blessings for an awesome 2025!!
My family and I dined at this restaurant two nights ago and had a wonderful experience. We ordered broccoli beef, salt and pepper chicken wings, eggplant and string beans. They all were very delicious. We actually arrived quite late around 8 and didn’t realize they normally close at 9. When the owner learned it was our first visit, they recommended their pot stickers and even offered them on the house. And they were fantastic with a generous portion. They also didn’t charge us for the rice. As it was getting closer to 9, the owner’s family sat down at another table for their own dinner, and before we left, they gave us a whole box of hot and sour soup to take home for free again! Definitely recommend this place, food is great, service is excellent!
China House
O m g! I was so happy to find this place open. It's all takeout, but I ordered the spicy string beans and also the garlic eggplant. Absolutely wonderful and generous portions. I'm used to ordering chinese food in southern maren at san francisco, where they don't give you much, and it's super expensive. This is such a delight!!
My family and I have been coming here for years. It’s family owned and operated and they are a wonderful family. Since COVID they don’t do in-house dining, but the food has remained delicious. I hope they have many more years of success❤️.
Snow Garden
Food is amazing! Great portions :) my kids loved the food, my parents too. Highly recommended. You get hot black tea, really good. The sweet and sour soup is for 6 people lol
Delicious Chinese Food in town. We ordered Chaw Mien beef and chicken, both dishes were tasty. Even though we needed to wait for few minutes until the food arrived, the waiting was worth it. Moreover, the price was affordable. The resto was clean and there was a toilet for customers. I liked the chili sauce because it wasn't too spicy and a little bit sour.
Empress by Boon
It was my birthday dinner. Not gonna lie when our Uber arrived in Chinatown, I was initially a bit disappointed. As someone born and raised in China, I usually have 0 expectations for Chinese food in SF. However, Empress by Boon completely won me over (or maybe my boyfriend impressed me ;)). It was without a doubt the best meal I’ve had in SF! The stunning view of the city and the gorgeous ambiance only added to the experience. Every dish we ordered was incredible, with beautiful presentation and rich flavors. From the fish shaped shrimp dumplings to the slow braised pork and the innovative Peking duck, even the simple stir fried vegetables were exceptional. I had a wonderful evening there and left thoroughly impressed, grateful and happy!
I'll admit that I wasn't expecting much when we booked this place - expensive Asian food tends to disappoint when there are options at 10% the cost outside the door. What can I say, we Asians dominate Costco for a reason. So this was a pleasant surprise - a yummy course of dishes that never strayed so far from the mainline that you would have to call it fusion. Empress gets the points of these flavors and textures and simply tries to express them in the best possible way. Case in point, the simple fried egg roll was a highlight of the entire night. Delightfully crispy and flakey like a croissant, meaty and vegetable-y with subtle pickeling in all the right places, lots of structure and air to let the flavors develop. Wonderful. The dim sum shrimp dumpling - again, perfectly chewy and warm rice dumpling skin enveloping a robust shrimp concoction that was meaty, shrimpy, and toothsome. Freshly made from scratch by hand, freshly steamed - yes it's way more expensive than anything on the street, but here it's refined to all it's best qualities. There were a couple good, but not great dishes - the fried noodles were pretty normal take out quality, the snow crab was a bit limp and uninteresting, the duck had a delicately crunchy skin, but the meat itself was a bit bland, dull, and neither warm nor cold. Service was competent and responsive. Location was easy to get to with parking in the nearby Portsmouth garage. Beautiful decor. Great for important dates and special occasions. Would heartily recommend.
Hong Kong Clay Pot Restaurant
Taste of Hong Kong!! Only a short stay in SF after travelled from East coast. Dad and I have been craving for a good and authentic Chinese Canton meal. After looked at all the Google reviews of the whole Chinatown. We decided to go for this place and we made the right choice. The sizzling claypot dishes were hearty and delicious just what we needed for a cold day and the veggie stir-fry was so fresh and well cooked. Beef Chow Fun (rice noodle) was great with wok hey 鑊氣 My dad called it the best meal since we have been away from home for 2 weeks. And the price is very reasonable too. Most importantly we made friend with the lady boss, she is so welcoming and looked after us well. She chatted with us the whole time talk about everything just like an old friend. We felt like home eating at her place so we went back again second night. Highly recommended for people if you look for an authentic Cantonese place and don’t know where to go. This place has something other place may not have - 人情味 👍🏼👍🏼 多謝老闆娘🙏🏼
Don’t miss out on the absolutely most delicious Cantonese style Chinese food my family and I have ever eaten. The food prices are very inexpensive for as much as you get. The Chicken Chow Mein and the Chinese Broccoli With Beef are a MUST! These two dishes are by far the best we have ever eaten at any Chinese restaurant. We tried several dishes and only found chicken fried rice being average. Everything else was top shelf. The services is fantastic and I would recommend any party 4 or smaller to sit by the window so you can look out. Make sure if you’re anywhere near San Francisco to come eat at this gem!
No.1 China
I can only say that the food that I had was absolutely on point and cooked perfectly, each and every time I ordered. I've never been there, only ordered from home, so I'm not sure about their service or atmosphere. The boneless ribs and pork fried rice was delicious
Ordered a Sesame Chicken Combination Platter and Hot & Spicy Shrimp. Both were delicious, no complaints about the quality of food. We ordered Doordash delivery, live 6 miles away, and the food was still hot.
Great Wall
Beef & Broccoli is a great choice. Delicious and great price. The other foods are mediocre but the family does their best. I've gone there countless times now, I've never received an order incorrect. Note: they only accept cash
Got egg young and brown rice and chicken wings it seems like they cooked everything in the same oil witch was soaked in cold oil the egg rolls no shrimp in it even though that's what I paid for everything was just soaked in oil the gravy to put on the rice was black not brown and burnt the chicken wings was burned black to the bone it was just bad !!55 dollars gone what a waist!!!! Well the trash ate at least
Sum Dim Sum
Sum Dim Sum was a straightforward and quick place to eat. I ordered the barbecue pork noodles, and I had no complaints. The ordering process was speedy, and I was surprised by how fast the food arrived. The service was fine. If you visit with modest expectations, the food should satisfy you. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here, especially since I could eat something quickly and then continue exploring Chinatown.
First time here. I figured when in Chinatown…. Although the service was excellent the food was just good. I’ve actually had better Chinese in Inner Richmond! I ordered the shrimp dumplings and garlic noodles. I hate to be honest but I expected a little better.
Far East Cafe
I had family in town and they wanted to visit Chinatown and have lunch. So we came to this place and decided to try it out. Service was great, food was OK, what was a disappointment was the bill because they added the tip for 4 people. But it's ok because i would have left more than what was on the bill.
The details and atmosphere are stunning. From century old chandeliers and murals to crown molding and vibrant colors, this restaurant will have you immersed in culture. We stopped in for drinks. The host was so knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant and kept us informed and entertained.
Bow Hon Restaurant
Came here as a group of 11 on Sunday 1pm! We got 2 claypot rice's and 2 greens. So delicious, and they added hot broth to the crispy rice at the bottom of the claypot for extra flavor and deliciousness 😁
Don’t understand why the rating is so low?! The food is so good and the service is top notch!! Ordered wonton soup, beef and green beans and BBQ clams. I also went back to order General tzo’s chicken for my friend. Loved them all. If you’re looking for authentic Chinese food, this is the place to go.
Great Wall Chinese Restaurant
Food is decent and I will continue to order there but the people at Great Wall are very disrespectful. I was locked out of my house and did not have contact with anyone because my phone died and i needed to use the bathroom. One person had an attitude towards me and they did not let me do nither charge my phone or use the bathroom and told me to get out because I did not order anything that day. You need to show better manners plus I have been ordering Great Wall for years and this is how they repay me. They need better customer service
Very bad! The food was just very bad. The boneless spare ribs were these large chunks of meat that have a bad taste and are very difficult to chew. The sweet & sour chicken also had a bad taste. And the sesame chicken equally bad. The sweet sauce on both of the chickens had a bad taste. Either the 3 meats were leftovers reheated, or the meat company selling meats to this restaurant is giving them bad food. If that is the case, they need to find a new meat source provider. On top of that, the rice was dry and overcooked, possibly leftover from a day or 2 and reheated. I honestly havent tasted chinese white rice this bad before. Rice is suppossed to be fluffy and light, so simple. This was just really bad food in all types. The hostess barely spoke to us and was rude in her tone of voice. She looked grumpy which is not good if you are in the food service industry. Prices were on the expensive side. No fortune cookies, despite eating inside and ordering a lot of food. On the good side, they have lots of tables and the dining room is clean. Just no edible food here and from the attitude of the employees, they dont want customers.
