Szechuan Express
Everything was really really greasy. The shrimp egg roll was FULL of black pepper, no fresh veggie, and very oily. I also was supposed to get 2 but only got one, not mad cause I couldn't get through one. The fried rice was just brown rice and soy sauce, no onion, no beansprout, no green onion. The white rice was far superior Chicken wings, sweet and sour chicken, and broccoli were nothing to write home about. The people were nice enough, and the place seemed pretty clean. I do not write bad reviews like this lightly, but I was so disappointed cause I was looking forward to this. And I did give it a fair chance, eating it as quickly as possible.
This place is so good. I've never been there, but I watch this thing called Only Woks on Tik Tok. That $12 general TSO was amazing looking and looked fire with the rice. This dude can cook! Also, this dude lives on good values, so everything is cooked with love! Go eat here PLEASE! Do it for me!!!
Golden Palace
the buffet is not available on the weekends so i did not get a chance to try that. however pork congee and fried bread stick were my favorite. this brought back my childhood memory :) dim sum was good too. i ordered roasted duck noodle to go and it was still good even when i reheated it the next day.
Update Nov 2024, more than 2 years after last post UPGRADE rating to 5⭐️ FOR CONSISTENTLY SUPERB CANTONESE DINNER SERVICE. *** This is a conclusion from several independent visits between myself and foodie friends. (Photos uploaded separately at the time of update). The lunch buffets on weekdays is NOT the measure of this place. ITS GEM IS THE UNDERSTATED CANTONESE A LA CARTE, best enjoyed at supper time😎. It’s truly superb, the flavors brings back fond memories of Hongkong, a culinary center known for myriad Cantonese foods, from the street stalls to takeaways to casual and fine dining. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 THIS IS PITTSBURGH’S BEST PLACE FOR ROAST DUCK. In addition, the dumplings are reminiscent of traditional Cantonese DimSum. Indeed, while this not a DimSum eatery (unfortunately Pittsburgh DOES NOT YET have a true DimSum Restaurant), the dumplings are exceptionally Cantonese! It’s a BYOB, so bring your favorite wine for dinner. Service is excellent. ***** SURPRISING AUTHENTIC CANTONESE, against the cheap Chinese-style greasy salty lunch buffet (corruption of Chinese cuisine). Please please forget that buffet. ORDER FROM THE MENU, and awaken your palate to the subtle flavors of the Cantonese. The menu is short and very navigable. My recommendations: 1. Cantonese duck - juicy, fat rendered very much to the almost paper thin skin 2. Char Siu pork - unique Chinese BBQ pork, very lean 3. Sautéed Bokchoy with garlic They also have a small dim sum selection - the best is the Shu Mai and Shrimp Leek Dumplings. It’s a find for Foodies.
